    Thank you for explaining why they look different due to being grown out of water. I was losing my mind trying to see if there were more types of water wisteria.

    I have water wisteria at home it's really handy when breeding Guppy's as the babies can hide so the adults don't eat them. But it has taken over the tank!

    I am so glad you talked about how it looks different above ground vs underwater. I bought some but was confused why it looked so different from the pictures! A ton of sites say not to put it in a tank smaller than 5 gal, but with the frequent water changes, we don’t mind trimming it up a bit. Thank you for the tips and the info!

    Favorite plant so far because of its hardiness. Bought a couple other plants and have had alot of problems getting them to grow well. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. But the wisteria is very resilient and i enjoy watching it grow.

    This is literally the only plant I have been able to grow. I love it!!! It took over my 10 gallon and I couldn't be happier. I trim it every couple weeks and am putting the trimmings in my 55 gallon. But it's not doing as well in there for some reason. Now that I know it's Cichlid safe I'm going to try it in my 125!!!! Maybe I can take out some (or even ALL!!!!) of those silk and plastic ones! THANKS for the info!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!

    Ok that was adorable with your little one saying hi. I have a little one that age too. I love this plant. I put a tiny stem in my aquarium 2 months ago and I have enough for my other aquarium now. It's beautiful in there and it doesn't have brown on it or anything on it that I find unattractive. My guppy fry like to hide in it too.

    I really like these plants, too. I have some in all 3 of my tanks. I've had them for about a couple of months now & they don't seem to be growing very fast. I've only had to trim 1 of them just once. I'm glad that they can be floating plants, b/c it seems the pleco, keep uprooting them. Strange, mine seems to be doing the opposite, in 2 of my tanks, the new leaves looks like a broad leaf.

    I've finally started prepping my betta's old tank for plants this week, and I bought a wisteria yesterday before I even realized you made this video. I've had an anubias nana and a... dwarf pond lily...? (idk, I grew it from a bulb pack from Petsmart) growing in jars in my window, and I'm excited to get started on my first planted tank.
    I need to get tools though, since I've just been using a pair of long spoons to move the plants around in their jars...

    • @FantasyAddict95
      @FantasyAddict95 4 роки тому +1

      Update: I moved the water wisteria, anubias nana, and lily into a secondhand 3 gallon tank with a filter shortly after I posted this. They all grew in well, though the nana's original leaves got a little discolored. New leaves grew in though, and they look healthy.
      I had let the plants grow in for 2 months, and just 2 weeks ago got a pair of male guppies and a small horned nerite snail. I love watching the snail go around grazing, and I was thinking of naming the guppies Player 1 and Player 2. Anyone want to guess what they look like?

    • @FantasyAddict95
      @FantasyAddict95 4 роки тому

      Update 2: Red jumped out of the tank while I wasn't home, came in and found him under my dresser. I was really sad, because I had him for a month, he was gorgeous, I loved watching them swim around, and he got along perfectly with Blue.
      I got another one to replace him so Blue wouldn't be alone, but Noob died a day after I got him. I either got a sick/injured/stressed male that was bullied overnight to the point of dying. He was fine when I went to sleep, had a bite in his tail when I woke up but was otherwise fine, then he started dying right in front of me an hour later. I'm waiting a week and trying to come up with ways to introduce a new fish since
      1) if Noob was sick, I want to make sure Blue is safe,
      2) I don't want to repeat with Noob or have Blue get killed,
      3) the tank is too small to add a bunch of new fish to counter Blue's bullying.
      So either I get one other fish, or Blue lives alone. I have another hand-me-down tank, but I need to sterilize and set it up, and it's a 2 gallon. Maybe I can move Blue there to break his territorial behavior?

    • @facelesstunes8608
      @facelesstunes8608 3 роки тому +1

      In case you still haven't figured out anything, guppies need to be in groups. The more the better, as this makes them feel safe and it speads the aggression out. They need 15-20 gallon plus so there is lots of space and you need to give hiding places. Most guppies are overbred and are now pretty weak. Find a reputable breeder. They will jump, like other fish when looking for better conditions just like a betta will. Make sure you test your water regularly to keep it ok for their requirements. Good luck

    OH MY GOD WATER WISTERIA!! I have had this plant in my tank for years and I completely forgot what it was called, and for the LIFE of me I have never been able to find it again in stores nor would it ever come up whenever I'd search for it. THANK YOU for making a video on this, I'm finally able to identify my favourite aquatic plant!! :D
    And another thing to note with them - they seem to actually grow best with regular trimmings! If you snip a piece of their stem off, they'll wanna shoot off new stems to make up for it, and usually will shoot of 2-3+ at once! This also applies to if any of your tank critters decides to take a bite of them lol, one of my mystery snails decided that my water wisteria would be a nice snack and let me tell you, I have never seen that plant grow faster than it did when my snail was trying to eat it! So they're definitely great plants to keep if you have a problem with your critters eating your plants - juuust make sure it's a full-grown plant that you're putting in there so it can actually grow new offshoots quickly XD
    I do wish this plant was a lot more common than it is. I can never find it in any pet/fish stores anymore, and that's a shame because they're such good plants! They're so hardy and grow so much easier than every other aquatic plant I've gotten, even moreso than anacharis and that's saying something!

    Just got some from the local petsmart, was so cheap I couldn’t afford to not give it a shot.
    Most of the existing leaves are melting away, going to be trimming those off tonight. But they’re going crazy with rooting out of every leaf node and tons of new leaves growing everywhere.
    I know they have a reputation for growing quickly, but damn, they’re quick!

    Water Wisteria is not a root feeder. It is a water column feeding plant. The heavy "root" system is for anchoring itself, similar to rhizome plants. They can take some nutrients through their roots, but they aren't efficient at it. Liquid fertilizer are better if you need to fertilize. That's why they can be floated. Also, anchoring them to objects works very well, like Anubias and Ferns. Even a small stone or weight just on top of the substrate, roots will anchor to substrate eventually. Especially for people experiencing rotting stems when attempting to propagate stems directly into the substrate, which seems to be a common problem in this comment section. This will eliminate that issue.

    Just picked up my first water wisteria for my aquarium because I couldn’t find water sprite. Thank you so much for this video! I am using this because it was suggested that it could provide cover for my dwarf gourami who is being bullied by my other dwarf gourami. If this doesn’t work I will end up separating them. At first I thought I had the wrong plant because it looked so different when I got it home..thanks for clarifying. This video was super helpful! I was wondering if this will provide the same kind of cover as water sprite? It was the closet I could find and I understand they are very similar.
