I bought these from you about a year ago. They melted back and took them a while to comeback. Now they are thriving during my last water change I accidentally pulled the plant from the bulb. I just buried the roots and relocated the bulb to a different part of the aquarium. Now I have a small plant growing and the larger plant is still alive. Plants are bulletproof as long as you have patients.

Thanks for posting this video. It makes me feel so much better. I fell in love with a red tiger lotus at an aquarium show a couple months ago. I love the pink color. Unfortunately, the plant broke off of the bulb on the way home. I was so afraid I had killed it. It had a few tiny roots at the base above the break so I planted it. Then the beautiful leaves died back. I almost gave up. A few weeks ago I saw a tiny new leaf about 1cm across. I hope that little plant hangs in there. I kept the bulb because it was still hard and didn't smell bad. I dropped it into my grow out tank. It looks like it has some new growth so I turned the bulb so that part is up. Maybe I'll get lucky and wind up with two beautiful pink plants.

The interesting thing is these will go dormant and I was tempted to throw it away several times but the last time I grabbed it to throw it away I saw roots sprouting. Now it's gorgeous!

Mine is flowering! I’m pretty psyched about it. It’s incredible how fast they grow without CO2 in the water… although I do let its leaves reach the surface, so I guess it gets a big CO2 boost from that.

I can confirm that the dwarf lily will grow if planted loose without a bulb. It just needs to have well developed roots and a few leaves. It will take a few weeks to acclimate once replanted, but it will soon start sprouting new leaves.

I have both, the Tiger Lotus in a 10 gal Betta tank and the Dwf Lily in my 55 gal Community. Love, love, love them both. You stated the Lotus gets 3 inch leaves. Mine is currently throwing out 4 inch using a Fluval 3.0 with about 50% intensity. Still waiting for my Dwf Lily to develop those monster leaves, it's about 5 months old. I highly recommend both of these!

I have a dwarf lilly bulb its root which are visible, I placed face down in the substrate. I had some leaf growth that divided into two sections. Now those are growing there is no growth from the bulb the bulb did have a white film developing. I rinse it and replace it with new water it has stayed intact and remains solid. Thanks for showing what the differences are between the leaves.

I constantly prune off the pads. I don't need them and the stems are ugly. What I would recommend is people plant 2 or 3 together and then you will always have one sending out the large red juvenile submerged leaves. Also, mine grew for many weeks with the purple undersides and brownish top leaf with green speckles on 3 1/2" wide leaves. Now? Its turning red like I had ordered and I havent changed the lighting.
One last, I grow mine in a shallow wide pot with potting soil and sand on top. I'm sure that will keep this from overrunning the tank or for sure stop it from growing where I don't want.

@@fredrickfernandes8757 They do fine is pots with some potting soils on the bottom.
If any plant would do better in a tank with soils, its this one. Pruning it easily controls it. When its growth comes to a halt? You want to get it out of that pause with fertilizer..or iron.

@@fredrickfernandes8757 If you let it completely grow out the pads will cover the surface and shade other plants. However, you can “train” it to stay low by trimming off any shoots that try to move toward the surface. As for nutrition it is a bulb plant so it pulls a lot from its own stored energy, but does pull like other plants but not heavy like swords do.

Just got 2 red tiger Lily bulbs but they will not say half submerged in my gravel substrate so I am planting them in separate terracotta pots with a combination of fine and bigger gravel substrate half way in.
I have 2 types of snails (mystery and nerite) caught the nerite snail laying eggs on the bulb so another aquatic plant specialist also suggested covering the flower less bulb and cover with a expandable mesh fabric with holes big enough to add root tabs and allow new flower shoots to fit through. The said that will prevent snail 🐌 laying eggs. They also said that the red tiger lotus root system will spread quickly and steal nutrients from other plant, so to plant them in pots in my aquarium will prevent that.
    What do you think?

Here's why I am revisiting this old clip, yet another rookie question:
I bought some sort of elephant ear shape from the lfs. They didn't know what it was. The fish guy didn't know. It has green leaves which are melting, and white to pink and little green new growth on impossibly slender stems. No bulb, came in one root mass with three specimens. Today is day one, and it wasn't kept under plant lights. I'm guessing the answer is: ask again in three weeks.
