The Best Things To Bring Home From Jamaica.

- How to find Authentic Jamaican Souvenirs and Gifts and where to do shopping for them in Jamaica.
There are many souvenir shops in Jamaica. If you go to any one of them, you will see a lot of colorful towels, t-shirts, dresses and hats, which people tend to buy as a gift for themselves, their family and friends. However, the problem is - most of these items are made in China, which makes no sense to buy them as souvenirs. Instead, I think that the best things to bring home from Jamaica should be authentic Jamaican goods, that are made in Jamaica by Jamaicans! And guess what? There are plenty to choose from!

That little island handled the pandemic WAAAYYYYY better than the US. I'm planning to retire there within the next 5 years. Thank you so much for your videos.
Thank you! I hope other videos will be useful too!
agreed!
@Charles Some people think I sound Australian :) the reality - it's a mix of Ukrainian + Dorset + London accents, and a little bit of Jamaican on top now, I guess :). Oh well.. :)
@Charles Please check out the video "100 things to do in Jamaica" . I hope it helps! 😊
Me too I hope to return one day 🇯🇲

Hi lovely lady! Thank you for shedding light on the fact that a lot of those products are not Jamaican made. It's irritating. We do need to do research in order to put more money back into the Jamaican economy! THANK YOU for doing this video!!!!! Blessings Irie!!! ❤️🇯🇲💛🇯🇲💚
Thank you! Yes, my point exactly! *Hugs* 🇯🇲❤️💚💛 and thank you for support!
We have to do our best to invest in our Jamaican economy 🇯🇲
Dearest Official Jamaican,
You make me proud to be Jamaican. Thank you for your amazingly beautiful and positive videos. Often we are sold in a negative way but you have made it your job to highlight the positive and the possibilities and on behalf of all Jamaican, thank you! Irie
The pleasure is all mine! Thank you so much for the support! ❤️
JAMAICA WITH IRIE what specialisms are most needed? I will be returning home and want to be prepared
@@charlinegraham6348 Almost ALL professions are needed (apart from wintersports?)! Anything you're passionate about - do it! I'd say the main one that is at shortage is Entrepreneur.
JAMAICA WITH IRIE Thank you for what you are doing.
On my first trip to Jamaica I purchased a colorful short-sleeved leisure shirt only to return home and find a 'Made in Malaysia' tag. On my second trip I purchased a carved wooden bird from a gentleman along the roadside...What a difference and what excellent advice!
I've been to Jamaica about 14 times now. I'm planning to go back in a few months. Ochi is my favorite place - I like it because it's a walkable little town and I don't feel like I'm stuck in the all-inclusive out on the highway and I have to pay a driver every time I want to go somewhere. And the craft market is right down the street from the hotel. Negril is my second - even though the beach over there is outstanding. I have to agree with everything Irina said. I try my best to never buy anything "made in China." I go straight to the craft markets because I love local Jamaican folk art. I buy paintings, wood carvings and hand-made jewelry. My entire home is furnished with paintings I got from craft markets in either Negril, Montego Bay or Ochi. And I love that when my guests ask me where did I get that cool painting, I can say "oh, I got that in Jamaica." Some of the loveliest scented candles are made in Jamaica. The different scents are absolutely lovely and long lasting. I have many of the products that she showed and I love Jamaican toiletries like liquid body wash, soap bars and shampoos. I also like Jamaican sorrel tea so I always get at least two boxes to bring back. And no country can beat Jamaican coffee - it takes like liquid chocolate. It's by far the best coffee I've ever had. It is right that sometimes you can't avoid buying something made in China because native Jamaicans do work in most of those stores and because I love collecting refrigerator magnets. I only get one or two and because I make it my business to shop local 90 percent of the time. I pick up gifts of Blue Mountain coffee, small art pieces, those little painted paper mache' cardboard houses. I have about 3 or 4 of the really large Rasta carving (try getting those back on the plane!). Just kidding, the folks at the airport wrap them up really nicely for you so it's breeze getting them back home. Jamaicans are such hustlers, they are so creative and cool people. They are so patient, helpful and non-judgemental of us tourists. I love Jamaica so much and for a long, long time I have wanted to retire there. I'm just hoping that in the next few years I really can go and not have to come back.
Thank you so much for sharing this story! I'm glad you've been enjoying coming to Jamaica! I love Ocho Rios, it was the first place where I stayed in Jamaica! I currently live in Montego Bay. Have you visited other towns, like Port Antonio, Kingston or Treasure Beach? I hope other videos on this channel can be useful for your future plans/trips to Jamaica! 🤗👍
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE I've been to Montego Bay (of course - because that's where you land). My first visit way back in the 1980s I stayed at the Holiday Inn there. The roads were horrible but it was so much fun. To see the improvements over the years is like looking at your child grow from a gauky pre-teen to a confident young lady. After that first visit in Montego Bay my other visits have mostly to Ocho Rios - because I love the Falls and I have to visit them every time I go to Jamaica. And again, I love to just walk around and get a feel of the city and there's so much to do in Ochi. I must admit that I am a bit of a touristy traveler. I love seeing the places that I've seen on TV - and actually being there gives me a thrill. One time we were in Ochi we visited the Wassi Art Pottery Factory - and I have several vases, coffee mugs, salt & pepper shaker from them. They are closed now - but those artists folk made some incredible art vases, pottery and ceramics. They also sold paintings there which were outstanding. I have been to Kingston as well - but I went specifically to visit the National Art Gallery and it was closed the entire 6 days of my visit - so that was a bummer. I did a few tours including visiting Marcus Garvey's residence/office and Bob Marley's home, Devon House, the Ward Theatre and a few other places. I walked and walked and a few times I just sat in the parks and took in the local scenes. I keep saying my next visit is to Port Antonio but I haven't done it yet. I heard the roads were very bad (but getting much better) and it was hard to get to. But they say that you haven't really been to Jamaica if you haven't been to Port Antonio. I try to come by myself - that way I can visit places that my friends don't want to visit but that doesn't always work out - solo travel can be a bit intimidating sometimes so I try to stay on the beaten path. However, if I do get the chance to come in November I'll be going back to Kingston and maybe try to get over to Port Antonio. But I'd also love to come down and just stay my entire vacation over in Negril on the beach. Here in the U.S. with the pandemic and restrictions it's very disheartening. Even before the pandemic we got very little vacation time, so I try to make the right decisons when it comes to my precious days off. So sometimes I play it safe and just go back to the places I'm familiar with. Yes, your videos have reinforced everything I love about Jamaica. I smile when I watch them - however the driving thing - I think I'll pass on that for a while. If I move there when I retire I know I'll have to get a car and drive but as a visitor I'll leave the driving to the locals.
@@soulshadoww55 Ah, the road to Port Antonio is quite good now - it's just a 2-lane highway all the way from Montego Bay to Port Antonio - I have some footage of it in my video "driving in Jamaica", please check it out to get an idea. In general, Jamaica has changed SO MUCH even in the last 6 years - it's incredible. A lot of people still remember it the way it was before, but it's changing for the better every single day.
As for the trips - Port Antonio has a lot of beautiful beaches, I personally like them more than 7-mile-beach because they are even more cosy and beautiful. But, of course, Negril has its own atmosphere which you can enjoy. Do you visit Mayfield Falls or Y.S.Falls while in Negril?
@@soulshadoww55 hello, the roads were terrible ? Ever been to MAUI HAWAII ? You would SWEAR you were in JAMAICA, I had NO PROBLEMS, with small roads there to HANA, & Seven pools, we passed a car, we later discovered they aLEFT 1 HOUR before us ! Stay well 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This is super facts. Something jamaicans really need to establish more
Irena you are a Empress Ambassador for Jamaica 🇯🇲 We love you... 👍👏♥️💚💛😄💕😁 ... We will always support your movement.👁👁👍👍👍.
Irena you are should be in marketing for jamaica you are a Jamaican ambassador thank you for the wonderful information.
Wow, thank you! Very kind of you!
My pers fav gifts to buy myself from JA: paintings by local artists (have purchased 3) and hand made artisan pcs ie: carved calabash bowls, soaps, honey and of course blue mtn coffee 😁 I never buy souvenirs unless they are made in JA as I want my $ to stay in the local economy ✌
Another beautiful video. You made a very good point.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video!
Great vlog Irena! I am actually a bit surprised about the place of manufacture of the souvenirs. It is always great to support the local businesses that sells the products that are made in Jamaica.
Thank you, my thoughts exactly! Unfortunately, people don't usually pay attention to where the goods are made, so I thought it would be a good idea to attract people's attention to this matter.
Happy Emancipation Jamaica!!!! 🇯🇲
Irina, Thanks for doing this segment on "Things Not Made in Jamaica."
It's a damn shame that the Government and the Tourist Board in 2020 still allow so many things/souvenirs branded with Jamaican emblems/characteristics to be imported and sold to visitors as Jamaican products. Some time ago, I refused to buy and bring things back to NYC, the USA as souvenirs because they were made in China.
I think our local TV (Tvj & CVM) stations and The Jamaica Tourists Board need that beautiful voice of yours. Well done 🤗🤩
Jamaica is my country the best in the world. I will live else where but Jamaica is my home .Peace and love every one. Share the blessings.
Yes! As a Jamaican I was shock to find out that souvenirs were not made in JAM 🙄, thanks for sharing 🥰
BIANCA RAE, HI YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED, everewhere, has bs souvenirs MADE IN CHINA, but in HAWAII, imagine seeing JAMAICA, BERMUDA, BARBADOES, etc there among ine IDENTICAL ITEMS, see the stupid workers in CHINA mixed them up ! My wife &I could NOT stop laughing ! 🇬🇧🇯🇲🇺🇸
Thank you.. everytime I go to Jamaica i look for local and hand made gifts ,for examples those little boxing gloves I can buy them here in Canada
I think these are great inspirations for first timers. After 13 trips to Jamaica, we love to bring home memories and, of course, culinary souvenirs as medicine against longing. Btw.: the JMD 20 coin fits perfectly into shopping carts in Germany or Switzerland and is therefore also a great little souvenir.
Thank you for sharing! About 20 JMD coin - very interesting observation! I'll try when I'm in Germany next time :))
Nice video. As a native born Jamaican I have not been back to Jamaica for more than 15 years sad to say ; sad to say . Things have surely change as far a products innovations and improvement are concerned. Your video is lit.
Irina my sister. You are doing an amazing Job of ADVERTISING MY BEAUTIFUL ISLAND..Doing what most of us would like to do but can't or won't or just too busy to do. I SALUTE YOU! I BLESS YOU & Pray for God's blessings and protection for you & your family. I cannot wait to return to my home. Keep up the good work..Don't worry about any poison tongue. One love ❤ !
that is true, I went to negril and at first only find shops owned by indish people where you find nothing but souvenirs made all over the world but Jamaica. But forunately there is this craft market, at the entrance of the city of negril. There you find realy authentic and beautiful origin souveniers and meet locals.
Awesome!
Irie,
Great video !
It's quite irritating to find all the vendors selling the same items and they are not made in Jamaica. Your videos are very informative. Keep doing what you do. Thanks
I'm surprised so many Jamaican souvenirs are not made in Jamaica. Will definitely be checking the packing next time I purchase items.
No wonder you love jamaica 😆😆😆 and you need to try rum cream taste real good. We have a lot of tasty snacks and pastry like beff patties, bammy, buss mi jaw, blue drazz 😉😆 ect. But a lot of us down here don't appreciate them so it's up to you guys to come here and enjoy them. Nice vid keep it up👍
Thank you! 🤗 Yes, Jamaican food and drinks amazing! Really gooooood 😋😋😋
Awesome informative presentation as usual
Hi Irina, this is my last one for tonight, but i agree with the young man below Richard, you are doing a wonderful job. I left Jamaica over 40 years, and i am truly enjoying all your videos. Thank you, and I glad you were able to get home and make it back safely to Jamaica your second home. I want to thank you on behalf of all the students that you were able to help and I am so sorry for the WAR against your country and countrymen. I am from Kingston. but I have visited Negril, Montego Bay and came on a ship to Ocho Rios, but i sure wished I had your vlog before all my travels back to the Island. Thank you again and sending you and your family Lots of LOVE.
blessed luv.. hope everybody is doing alright hope everybody is ok.. thank you for showcasing your your island.. it is so beautiful.. this is where i want to live.. i am convinced.. everything is so natural.. just as GOD intended.. please keep the content coming and continue to use your platform to promote your amazing country.. stay safe and stay strong.. more life.. be blessed.. luv...peace
Good video and information. It's like a professional documentary. 👍
Binge watching all your videos right now love all of them . Thanks for all these contents very informative
I must say I'm proud of the way your marketing jamaica and particularly jamaican products. Its extremely Important how you directed focus to products made in jamaica by jamaicans for the world market. There are so many "jamaican" products being sold in the souvenir stores that were not made in Jamaica and definitely do not benefit jamaicans . I like how you placed the souvenir stores at the bottom of the list.
Thank you for loving my Jamaica and I can see you love their too love what you are doing thanks again respect
Thank you - this is the problem we had when we were last in Jamaica. We didn't get a chance to get to the craft market
Blessings! Your videos are very informative I wished I would have known what I know now. Never too late learn from you. Thanks again and keep up the great works!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thank you so much!
I love you so much for the way you present these videos.....all in the interest of jamaicas brand.....made in jamaica..of jamaican intillectual recognition and so on.....maybe you should pressure the government to speed up their plans to construct the jamaican music museum of mento/gerrae/sca/rocksteady/ reggae and dancehall to finally pay respect and give the recognition to these jamaicans ( a whole lot of the for such a small country) who have brought immense popularity to jamaica across the world much of which has caused millions to venture to its shores and thus bringing much needed help to the economy in general.
Amen to that... I never understand the concept of people who buy goods that are not authentic when visiting a country. I believed authenticity is the core value and represents the country and its people. Thank you for that highlight. It beautiful that one person can make many different.
Thank you for another great video. I love how you support the local crafts and make buyers aware of the chinese junk. support Jamaica like a true yardee! big up unno self an nuff respec fe de videos dem!
Just want to say . You are doing an awesome job 🇯🇲🇯🇲
thank you, very nice👍
Thanks for highlighting the country of origin of many gifts sold in Jamaica. Often when I went home and bought gifts, I always checked where they were made, it kinda put a bad taste my mouth if was to buy a Ja souvenir made in China or other countries, I guess most tourists don't even think about it, but since I have travelled a lot I know what to look for, and when I buy an authentic Ja souvenir, I feel I'm contributing to the local economy, I'm really surprised that the Govt allowed so many imports of Ja.souvenirs made in another country, but ok I'll just buy from the craft market
Mrs. IRIE can you do a informative on a proper way of sending loves a care package aka "barrel " to someone in Jamaica 🇯🇲 .... what to do , what to expect, etc etc.... thanks love your videos
This is interesting! Yes, I will look into it! Thank you!

Just came across your channel and love it 😊 🇯🇲thank you thank you 😊
Awesome! Thank you so much for the support! 🤗
I LOVE THIS LADY.
Excellent video, well thought out, authentic and informative. I'm from Jamaica and never knew the history of white rum 🙄
IRENA, H Ella. The ONLY problem with bringing RUM on your trip, is SIMPLE, if you have a NONSTOP FLIGHT, you are good to go, HOWEVER if you need toCHANGE PLANES, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BOARD THAT NEXT FLIGHT ,what to do ?pack it in your luggage ! I known of so many whom got SCREWED ! By not being able to CHANGE FLIGHTS WITH IT ! 🇮🇨🇬🇧🇯🇲🇺🇸
yes, always pack rum and other liquids in the main luggage. 👍
Buy in supermarket and wrap in bubble wrap if you wait for duty free your bags would be checked already
I will for sure be paying more attention to this when I travel there in March
Great video hun. Bless up
Mi a tek notes feh nex time meh come home. Thanks Irena and one love!

(witching nice cruise tv adds) good to mention locally made items! I brought one thing back on th ship that was locally "made" it was gone in smoke before we where back in miami. :-). i still have my banknotes as souvenir! i love them
Ahaha, I wonder what that locally made gift was! 🤔😊 Thank you so much and for watching the ads again! 😂 You're so kind!
I really appreciate this type of information, your videos are always informative.

I agree wholeheartedly!
Good informative video Irina.
Thank you! I love your videos! You are awesome! Don’t let the haters get to you! If I’m lucky maybe I will run into you when I visit in October! 😊
I've been watching a lot of your video's recently and you're making me fall in love with Jamaica which is where my husband is originally from, just a fyi I'm from the Cayman Islands where the Tortuga cakes are from and it made me chuckle a little at how you pronounced Cayman .. its pronounced as cay-man not cai-man but you're doing a great job at your videos they're all very informative and really show the beauty of Jamaica
You are the best one love
What a beautiful name......Irieeeeeeeeee
That "silly" is di Irie🇯🇲.... another good one.
Heyy...irena would love to see a vlog on Jamaican foods😁😁
Awesome video!
We have the same problem in Canada.
Great video
Sad thing is here (Australia) and prob most of the world most things are made in China!
I must admit I loved the Jamaican dolls! 😁
Thank you for your feedback and yes, true about items made in China! I don't mind when it comes to most items though, but it's just for souvenirs it kinda doesn't make any sense. ))
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE I agree...if you want a souvenir it should be authentic. 😊
This is so awesome 👌
Love it 😍.... keep them coming PLEASE
Dear Irena
Many thanks for this vlog.I am in agreement with you about the vast array of souvenirs that are present and sold at home that are made outside JA.I have always been disappointed and always look for country of origin before buying.
I am plesed that you are making more of us aware of this problem and in do doing helping to boost the local economy.
Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you Irina
Very informative
This was excellent thanks again

HI Irie, loving your videos and how easy you grasp the big picture and share that with all of us. Thank you. Would you happen to know where i can get those dolls from? (The pic inserts) . Im in love but cannot find them anywhere....Preferably the supplier but would greatly appreciate any info.
Good day
Thanks Irina, I really enjoy your presentation.
Thanks for this information, Irina.
Are Chinese-made souvenirs still prevalent in Jamaica? I will be visiting the island in October & bringing along an American friend who has never been to JA before.
It would be a bit embarrassing to say the least if she was to pick up a JA souvenir in a craft-ware shop, only to find it stamped “Made in China”.
