The traditional knowledge about turmeric in India has been that you put it in powdered form in every single vegetable, cereal or meat you cook. But when taken for direct benefits, it must either be heated with milk and taken before going to bed, or cooked raw and grated in lots of ghee with peas in winters. So cooking/heating has been essential to turmeric consumption at least in all parts of India.

In Indonesia, turmeric drink is a traditional drink passed down from generations. We call it 'jamu'. And we mostly boil or cook before consuming it. But we always mix turmeric with other ingredients, like ginger, Kaempferia, Tamarind. For medicinal purpose, many use white turmeric instead of yellow turmeric. My grandmo told me, when we boil those ingredients, the healing agents will be more activated. Is turmeric new to Western diet?

I put turmeric with black pepper in my coffee basket with my favorite coffee when I make the morning pot . I also add ginger and cinnamon into the basket as well. About 1 tablespoon of these 4 spices/herbs for a 10-12 cup pot of coffee. Wife and I have been doing this for almost 3 years now. And it all started Here on Dr Berg's YT channel! Thank you Dr. Berg for you very well put together videos. Great presentation and great teaching too! Again Thank you. :D We are both in our late 60's. If you have never tried this blend give it a try!. Note: I also add a pat of real butter and a dash/squirt of raw honey to my cup. The butter really smooths out the taste (not that it's bad tasting or anything like that lol ) of the coffee. And the added good fat in butter keeps the mind sharp (brain food) 1st thing in the morning. Honey, well especially raw honey, speaks for itself on goodness.

I have formulated 10 oz Turmeric along with 5 oz Black Pepper, 2-3 tablespoons Cayenne, 1-2 tablespoons Cinnamon and 2 oz ginger. These are random amounts of each I came up with and not scientific amounts. I had been reading about the benefits of Turmeric and its anti-inflammatory qualities. Several years ago, I was experiencing a lot of pain in my feet and knees and after reading about Turmeric I came up with my mixture mentioned. I started adding this dry mix to just about everything I ate and after a few moths noticed I had no more pain in my feet and knees. Since than I added this Turmeric dry mix to 3-4 avocados (guacamole) along with 12-18 oz Tomato paste. With This mix I get the benefit of my Turmeric mix along with the beneficiary fats of avocado and the Lycopene in the Tomato paste. This mix I keep in the refrigerator and use it as a spread on toast, sandwiches, and just about anything else. I have had good results with my experiences and like to pass the info along.

In the morning the pain was reduced by at least 50% and i didn't at that stage link it to the turmeric. I wondered why the knee felt so good. This went on for quite some time. On mornings when I awoke with bad knee pain i slowly came to realise i didn't have the turmeric, but even then, the pain was reduced. It's like a miracle. It took a while to link it to the turmeric as i was taking all kinds of other things for the pain, none of which worked. The turmeric hit like a silver bullet.

      Not a single helpful answer.
Start with 1/2 of a flat tsp (increase to 1/2 heaped a week later and observe; titrate upwards to a suggested max of 1 heaped- not easy to like so much in taste 😁 over 4 weeks) and in a week or so you'll notice an effect but 4-6 weeks for the long term effects to build up. Adjust the amounts as you go along - you don't need to get to the 1 heaped if 1 flat does the job. Also, this is an Ayurvedic remedy and these take time to build up, so be patient, because everybody has a different body-type!! Good luck!

It's very important for you to add a pinch of black pepper, preferably freshly grounded, as it has an ingredient that activates the antiinflammatory properties of turmeric.

Carrots are more nutritious when lightly cooked, more than eating them raw. If you will eat it cooked, but not raw, cook it. I can only eat a handful of raw dandelions, but cooking the leaves means I can gather and eat half a pound of dandelion greens. The same with beet greens. Plus, I can add butter, or lard, or tallow or schmaltz, which increases the vitamins I get. Turmeric cooked with black pepper, cream or butter and a bit of salt is delicious as a dressing!
Thank you for this video! I hope it helps those who think raw food is always best.

I am an Indian homemaker. Glad that all are now big into turmeric.
We use tumeric in just about every curry except sweets.
We mix turmeric with oil and massage the body and then bathe.
Also heat a glass of dilute curd with a pinch of turmeric and cumin and drink during fever. Just heat for a minute. Sorry for the long msg

I drink a lot of turmeric tea, not just for the benefits, but simply because it tastes good. If you have a good infuser, you can make it easily. I use turmeric, some cinnamon and ginger and you MUST add black pepper (small amount) in order for the body to use it. A little sweetener, maybe a little cream (or whip it up bulletproof style with the oils of your choice), and it's delicious! If you have a Costco membership, you can buy turmeric in the really large bottles. If you use a plastic insulated cup, like a Tervis, dedicate it to your turmeric tea, though, because you'll never get the yellow staining out, unless you don't mind. Otherwise, stick with glazed ceramic. It doesn't stain as easily.

I use tumeric as a medication for Ulcerative Colitis instead of a chemical medication which had severe side effects. Whne I told my specialist about this as it was recommended by my ex South African G.P. he agreed and said it was currently being investigated as a treatment scientifically and he was interested in my results. They have been VERY positive and all my symptoms are successfully kept at bay WITHOUT drugs, which were previousy prescribed, and it has also reduced muscle pain as a very good side benefit. From Australia.

Same as with lycopene in carrots and tomatoes. The levels of it goes up with cooking. Turmeric is also better to drink together with some pepper and a some fat. It enhances potency and absorption. Didn't pay 4K for the info so I'm not sure but I've read about this in many places.

Dr Berg, what is your opinion on Fish oil capsules? Some evidence that the oil since it is Polyunsaturated is that it oxidizes very quickly and by the time it is consumed it is ineffective at raising Omega 3s. Or worse yet, it is actually counterproductive as oxidized PUFAs are known to be harmful, hence the recommendation NOT to consume seed oils. "Good" fish oils capsules are expensive and I wish there was direction from any of the trusted doctors on YT. Also, what about the bottles of cod liver oil? Same boat? So confusing.
