When I've had a hard work-out and am feeling pain in joints and muscles, I take a couple of capsules of turmeric or make some 'Golden Milk' and take a few tablets of Calcium with Magnesium. Invariably, I wake up the next morning pain-free. I love being able to give this to my patients because it's highly effective and cheap.
Turmeric recipe
Take 1/4 cup turmeric powder, mix with 1/2 cup pure water and simmer over medium-high heat for at least 7 minutes, stirring constantly. You will notice a thick paste form. If it get's too dry while cooking you can add additional water. Once cooled, put into a glass jar and put in fridge. This is good for up to one month.
Golden Milk:
Add 1 tsp. to 1 cup. hot milk (cow, goat, soy, rice, almond, or any combination), maple syrup or honey to taste and 1/2 tsp. of almond or sesame oil. Gently heat and stir.
My family loves this just before going to bed. - Навчання та стиль
I don't know if you still check the comments for this video, but I wanted to let you know that this is my go-to recipe. Thank you even 10 years later.
Me too!! 💗💗💗💗
Me too❤
THank you SO much! I"m so glad you love it! And, I don't check comments too often but I do periodically and always love to hear that it's still helpful!
@drarjan I have it most every night and have pain if I don't! It is the best recipe thank you for so many years of better health! 💗
Aw I love that!!! I'm just watching this again to send a link to a patient of mine and some of the info is a BIT outdated so I'm happy that it's still working for you even with old info :) I think it's timeless even though there's WAY more info out there about it. xoxo@@FoxRogers
I make this golden milk but add some black pepper to the recipe , half a cup of water, a quarter cup of kurkumin , half a yeaspoonfull of black pepper. It is also known for its effectiveness with alzheimer patients, good for heart and brain
kris wijkstra yes, the black pepper increases the bioavailability of the curcumin by 6,000%
@@azlanfoodscapes why don't you add it in your recipe?
At what point do you add the pepper and how much do you add to the tumeric
@@marthasanchez7647 a pinch or to your taste
Will the golden milk not create havoc to the tablets and capsules one is already taking? Is it sort of user-friendly? Thanks for your reply.
The 3 essential ingredients are turmeric, oil or fat & black pepper. The oil & black pepper help the absorption curcumin, the main ingredient of turmeric. Best to use full cream milk because it contains the oil/fat to help the absorption of curcumin.
I am used to putting turmeric and pepper in my hot coffee. It really has helped me a lot.
I just tried this.. Had to add a pinch of salt to it to balance it out. The salt is tricking my mind into thinking its sugar and the spiciness is interesting. Hopefully the golden milk stuff tastes better! lol
Turmeric coffee that's good. I like to mix & match with my coffee or tea too😅
Must add black pepper as the body doesnt absorb the turmeric very well but with black pepper its absorbed much much better. Add ginger..lemon and honey too..also a dash of cayenne pepper and cinammon
Sat nam. I love this with addition of ginger and black pepper. Thank you! 🙏🏻
I am going to make make this today. So glad to find this. Will keep you posted what I think! Thank you!

Im only 43 and I already have Ostheoarthritis and Degenerative Disc disease. My neck now has a pinched nerve and I got a slipped disc. All this bad news and pain woke me up that I should change my diet. Im so happy I stumbled upon your videos! thank you! Btw your daughter is such a cutie! 💖
Update? Has this worked for you?
Hi, please find a good Chiropractor. I had such bad back pain, lower, and my daughter swore by hers . I went to him, I do have insurance, also. He exrayed me and showed me results I have scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and probably congenital. Anyways, what an extreme help he’s been. His adjustments are an amazing help ! Please consider. I hope you feel better 🙏
She is so awesome♡
Thank you! 💖
Whatever you're doing, Dr. Arjan, I'm on board because you look so glowingly healthy. I am now subscribed to your website and will try to follow along. Thank you and God bless you, your family, especially your precious daughter.
👍 Very good, thank you very much.
Fat and or pepper is needed for the turmeric to be absorbed in your body. Never thought about making a paste , might try that. I make a spice blend of ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, and turmeric, I add it to my milk while it is heating, and then after it's boiled I add a about a half a tablespoon of fat, I use coconut oil. After it has been poured into my mug, I add some honey. My spice blend, I use about a tablespoon or so per cup of milk. Don't forget to stir it regularly, milk burns very quickly when left unattended.
My fav recipe.
I sweeten mine with Organic Coconut Sugar, Great stuff also.
This is a great video. I found it through a link on Facebook through the pharmacy page. Keep it up. You're great!
+Jordan Crutchfield Thank you so much for your kind words! We're working hard on getting more out there.
I tried this recipe yesterday and I love it! I didn't add the oils to it b/c I didn't have them (plus I'm on an extreme budget). The first time I put 2 tsp of Honey (way too much) and a dash of nutmeg (just for fun). Later on the day, it dawned on me that my elbow & shoulder pain was gone! I've tried Motrin (ibuprofen) but that didn't work for me...but this home remedy works! I recommended this to my mom's husband for his joint pain. Thank you!
You need some source of oil (coconut, avocado, olive oil) for absorption of the curcumin ... otherwise your wasting your curcumin & money.
dont take ibuprofen... it decreases fertility.. new research
I have been taking 2tsp. a day for the past 3 days. My pain is down, I will see my dr. soon hope he approves, since I am on a Aleve for pain. I did add black pepper to my paste.
Awesome ❤
Thabks great info 😍👏
Thank you, Arjan! This truly is delicious! I've already noticed a difference in my joints over the past few days! Stay blessed! Sat Nam
+Brucella Newman Yay!! I'm so glad it's working for you!
Thanks 🙏🏽
In order to really activate turmeric as a healing agent add a small amount of black pepper❤
Thanks:) We drink it even today!
love it! I'm pregnant and have pains down my right side so I've been looking into getting tumeric in my diet other than making curries and stuff :) this was helpful!
It's cute now??
Hi Dr Khalsa, thanks so much for the info, I have helped many friends with this awesome therapy, I also use black pepper for better absorption, do you do that?
Many thanks for the useful information you've provided
I enjoy mine at bed time too. It has really helped me to sleep better. I know it's good for lot's of things but I really love it before bed time....
Satnam, I knew Yogiji very well and helped formulate the yogi teas with Dr. Jyot Singh from New Mexico

Very nice to see u here .. I have multiple gallstones will I tell me abt any hone remedi for this?
U hv a new sub n thanks for sharing
Great video! Nice clear explanation of the benefits of turmeric - especially for joint inflammation - and a simple demonstration of how to prepare Turmeric Paste, and then Golden Milk. I appreciate Dr. Arjan Khalsa's low-key, common-sense approach without hype, using healthy ingredients.
Thank you so much Sean! I really appreciate your kind words! It's definitely fun. I've been making it more lately with a pinch of poppy seeds and some nutmeg for a bedtime drink.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Just seeing this!

I always come back to this recipe
Can I use organic tumeric spice in a bottle?
Hi Dr. Arjan Khalsa, I just want to thank you so much. I tried your golden milk recipe and I love it, but most of all it helped me with my inflammation in my knees and I don't have to take any more Aleve for my knee pain. Thank you again!
Gloria Perconti I was taking RA meds for 15 years until I had a life treating reaction to enbrel. First time in my life after quitting all RA meds I had to do a detoxification and after that I stared to use turmeric. I noticed difference in about 3 months and today I am pain free, no swelling and don't need foot surgery anymore. R A medication ruined me, but I am okay now.
Oh I'm so happy that it helped you so much! I hope you're still doing well!
Hi Arjan khalsa can you please upload video to solve gallstones home remedy thanks
Thanks.
Tumeric also goes very well added to chicken soup, but not too much. Some is better than none.
I season my food with it, and putting it in tea with ginger, honey etc
What a beautiful child.and a great mother.
you can add a pinch of pepper to help absorb the nutrients
Nice video!
Peppermint is a natural anti-inflammatory!
using oil is not just to lubricate joints, it’s main function is to make turmeric function 2000x effective because turmeric is oil soluble. so it needs oil to make golden milk.
I love ❤️ this recipe help my arthritis helps me sleep
Yay! So glad it's helpful for sleep!!
I'm going to try this with my mother who has osteoartrosis. Thanks! :)
+Cynthia Barrera I hope it helped her!
What is the best quality turmeric powder? Thank you for the video.
Hi, hope you are ok. Noticed you don't post frequently. Would love to see more self care / health care video's with recipes.😊 Will try to make the latte with plant milk. Thank you
Where can we buy turmeric that you are using? Thank for showing us.
Thank you for the recipe! I am hoping this helps with my sleep and aches in my back at night.
Yes turmeric helps in all joint pains as well healing of any wounds from the inside.. 😊
@ Wendy Hinckley you can even try having turmeric tea.. take a cup of water n add 1 or 2 cloves, 3 or 4 black pepper, half an inch of cinnamon stick, some ginger as per your choice, 2 wedges thinly sliced n finally fresh turmeric root, if you can’t find fresh turmeric then you can add organic turmeric powder about half a teaspoon.. bring the water to a boil with all ingredients n then simmer on very low flame for 4 to 5 minutes n then leave it to infuse for another couple of minutes before having it.. that’s how I make it. 😊
Hello Dr Arjan Khalsa, i have missed the fresh grounded black pepper in the receipt, which should maximize the effect of tumeric by 200%?? Have you heard about it?
I'm making this today :) I've never heard of Udo's oil and it sounds like a fantastic product with all those oils in one. My neighbor, friend and father are all struggling with arthritis and this will make a great addition to their diet, so thank you! A note on Agave ... I recently learned that commercially available Agave is a highly processed sweetener, with more fructose than high fructose corn syrup ... up to 2x as much, therefore I would suggest avoiding it.
+Karen Williford HI Karen! I hope that everyone around is benefiting from the Golden MIlk. And, yes, I agree with you about the agave. I use it very sparingly, and, as always, I just tune into how my responds to anything that I ingest. I think that most sweeteners aren't that great for us so always good to take in moderation. Thanks, so much for taking the time to comment! I appreciate it!
The research that I read equated it - Agave - with White Sugar! Same as those industrialised runny honeys that have all the goodness processed out of them. // One also needs to be mindful of which Maple Syrup one purchases, as many mimic the Genuine article in name and presentation yet are nothing more than coloured sugar water plus plus
I do notice how sweet it is. I rather just use honey
Thank you will use your recipe - I have had both my knees replaced and still have pain after four years
+Ruth Bartz Oh! I hope this helps you with your knees!
Hi My daughter sent me your video, and I'm excited to make your paste, I've never seen a paste for making golden milk, and I can't wait to try it!
I have Osteoarthritis and
venous stasis, plus neuropathy I'm a mess 🥴
So I'm really hoping I'll love this paste, and that it will help my poor sick body
I love the idea of adding it to smoothies and I'll bet it's good in black tea too!
Thank you so much ❤️
I hope it's helping !
Sat Siri Akaal ji.. Muy Bien Khalsa Ji..
I'm glad that ended up being a batch. I thought you were making one drink and when you tipped in1/4 cup of powder I freaked out 🤣🤣
Thank you for the nice video and for sharing the sweetness of your daughter!
My question is I make this but I haven't been cooking it so much so I'll start to cook it more. Also, I'd like to add cardamon, cinnamon l, black pepper and other spices to it. Is there any issue with that or do you also do that sometimes?
Dr. Arjan … Thank you SO MUCH for this information. I'll soon be 80 and I'm in fantastic shape (thanks to diet and a daily yoga practice). Even so, a tip like this adds to my well-being, which I pass on by sending love to everyone I meet.
Dee Davis
+Dee Davis Yay for you! And thanks for passing the information along!
Question,? Drinking this every Day, How long, Before my body starts seeing some Results from the Golden Milk drink.? Thanks for sharing Etc.
Hello, A great and clear video, I read in several articles about the virtues of turmeric, and in all of them the experts recommend adding ground black pepper since it significantly increases the absorption capacity of turmeric in the body, what do you think
Well I haven't personally done a lot of research on the black pepper, it seems that a lot of people have and that seems to be something, like you said, research is showing to be a beneficial. If nothing else, black pepper is a great blood purifier so I know it can't hurt!
I just keep using my fresh Organic Turmeric Powder, As needed Daily, So no worries about it spoiling if Pre mixed etc.
Yes, I must say that I found it strange to cook it in advance - or ‘heat’ - whence it has already had heat applied to dehydrate the fresh, into powder form. Then heat it again when making the Golden Milk - equating to 3 times the Turmeric is heated…each time must destroy more of its benefits. Thus, unless the preparation has some key element of activation, I would, & do, simply use fresh, or add ground Turmeric to the milk. A little milk may be added initially to form an easy to mix paste, before adding the rest of the chosen milk. // It’s such a precious ingredient that I wouldn’t wish to risk any wastage 🙏💜
I saw her video a few yrs ago ..
I just heat my milk add turmeric and drink.
Dr., how long can this be stored in the fridge?
just hit my 40s.so im trying to transition from fried food/ red meat, alchohol and 1980's stimulants...to beets, fish oil, turmeric, whole food vitamin supplements, lots of berries, avacado...lots of fruits, fish, eggs, vegetables, and also...whenever i have milk now...i get stomach pains ect.. ect. so definitely almond milk.after maintaining this for a while...ill begin an exercise regiment. im afraid to begin now for fear my heart will explode while im jogging and leave nothing but a crater, 3 city blocks wide.
Hi, can olive oil be used???
Is it possible to make golden paste into suppositories for rectal Inflammation?
Hi, thanks for the recipe. I've just made some. Delicious!! Do you store the paste in the fridge?
+Geni Lawrence I do! I find that it usually doesn't last much past a week, so I would recommend consuming it within 7-9 days, just to be on the safe side! Glad you are enjoying it!
I add black pepper, cayen chili, cinamun powder, and Hany.
Hi Dr. Khalsa, I've been encapsulating the uncooked turmeric powder for a long time, but the turmeric paste you make is wonderful. I will discontinue encapsulating. I've been making the Turmeric Paste and Golden Milk for the last four days, and even after the first day, I could feel a difference. What does the cooking do to the turmeric? My body loves it. Thank you and bless you, you are helping a lot of people. I'm sharing this info with friends and family and clients.
Hi @Lorraine Lott I just saw a video that explained how cooking it actually brings our more of its benefits
why make a paste though? does that make it better than just putting the powder directly in milk?
@@chochooshoe Yes, it's best cooked for 7 to 10 minutes in water, then add oil and black pepper, stir to mix, cool and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks. Add a teaspoon to a cup of your chosen milk.
@@jenibutler7138 thanks. but what makes it good? is it because when you cook it longer the nutrition from turmeric can be absorbed by the body more?
Dr. Arjan, thank you for all the wonderful information you provide us with. If I take the turmeric with juice and add some oil since I understand it should be taken with some fat for proper absorption, will it have the same effect as taking it with milk? I tried it with milk and it makes me sick. Also, I have been reading that black pepper should be added to the mixture. Would you know what the proper ration is? Thank you
Did you use high quality almond milk or coconut milk? They don't have the things in them that are harmful like cow milk. Avoid cheap plant milks with fillers and other ingredients that are bad for you. Blessings & Good Health
What about coconut milk , can you use that
I still do not have one of your spiffy little hats, but made golden cottage cheese. Does that work? Cottage cheese, black pepper, and sesame oil.
Would MCT oil work well with this?
Dr. Arjan.... How do I drink the golden milk to clean out my liver?
Thank you for the vid :-) can you use turmeric powder instead of making the paste?
+cain bender ... it's best to cook it so that your body can best use it. Thanks so much!
Dr. Arjan, I've been researching Curcumin and read that it may cause hair loss, however I also read that when combined with Resveratrol it aids hair growth. I'm thinking it can't do both. What do you say to this? Also Dr. Ajay Goel recently did a study that showed 500mg Curcumin taken twice a day was as effective as Prozac. I am going to buy the brand name that he used and try it. I am concerned though about the hair issue. Also, do you have any thoughts on alopecia areata? Thank you!
+MFC1791 I've never had an issue with hair loss. And, the Asians all have been using it in 3 meals a day their whole lives, and I think they have pretty amazing hair, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. If you are losing hair, I would check with your doctor and make sure that there is nothing else going on with your health
Gentle Physician, why did you omit pepper? Every other recipie I've seen says peper is necessary for the body to absorb the benefits of tumeric. Thank you
My ingredients for golden milk are milk , turmeric , powder ginger , cinnamon , black pepper and honey .
I mix all dry ingredients into the milk and bring to a boil and add honey when it has cool to a drinking temperature. I will start adding a tbsn of coconut oil to it after this video.
Hope my recipe is ok
Would you be able to share with me the exact measurements of each of the ingredients you use?
Hi, I have an ulcer problem. Should i drink golden milk ?
MCT oil or Ghee would be great!
I appreciate this recipe. Please look into the amazing health benefits of collard greens, used to treat arthritis, Crohn's disease, IBS, IBD, obesity, diabetes and more! It contains nearly every amino acid, protein, magnesium, phosphorus, vit k, vit a, etc.!
Very good, I thought turmeric needs black pepper in it for our body to really absorb all the nutrients.
It does indeed, so don't forget adding a pinch of black pepper also..!
please make more videos!!
Can I add this to my organic coffee, along with coconut oil, black pepper and a dash of my fermented garlic honey?
Absolutely! I've done it and other folks on videos do so well
Please use ginger or black pepper to activate it.
How about nerve pain ?? In legs 🦵 feet and hands pain .
Hola, gracias por la receta... no se le pone pimienta?
Hola! A hora I use pimienta pero back then when I made this video I wasn't using it. I feel like there's been so much research since I made that video about different spices to use. Now I also add nutmeg, poppy seeds, ginger as well as the black pepper. Really good for sleeping!
Looks good I think you are on to something.
Thanks! It's good stuff!
You need to add black pepper to the tumeric to extract more benefits. Basically any legitimate tumeric paste or golden milk recipe calls for the black pepper. The fact that she doesn't mention that makes me feel that she doesn't know what she's talking about.
Hello and thank you. Must the tumeric be cooked or can it be stirred into beverage and ingested cold?
Heated is most effective
