I have gloves that buff any acid dmg i do as well as my weapons do a additional 6/12 acid dmg with any weapons strike on top of the dmg it already does . Boots that also boost any acid dmg i do and accessories. One thing to consider when playing a paladin. Originally you can pick a deity with your paladin, there are dialogue options for it. There is a mod that re unlocks it so you can have those dialogue choices
You don't need a mod. It's in game, you just need to also take one level of cleric. Its kinda half finished though, not many instances where "paladin of whoever" pops up.
@@Evocati25 Still fun to roleplay, and taking a level of cleric won't give you much at all except sacrifice your 12th level feat for some niche roleplay.

@konpenv2965 I have not used druid as my main character before so that does sound super annoying. Then u have to use more of ur shape charges than usual because of that.

Very helpful. New to BG, and DnD. Back in the day I really loved Dragon Age (I bought all 3 in a steam bundle and have yet to get back into it, not even installed). I’ve found myself save scumming like crazy with BG3. It’s a game, I paid $60, I’m gonna get the outcomes I want. What was annoying to figure out with Oath of Ancients paladin, you can’t kill specific enemies, even if they attack you. Like I’m Goblin Camp, the two you find after the Owlbear attack them, if you kill them yourself in goblin camp, you break your oath. I had to reload and fight it again so I wouldn’t break it. I was frustrated and called in the ogres, definitely paid them to stay with me. Anyhow, it’s been a lot of fun. I went human fighter at first, got to the under dark and decided to start over. High elf paladin. I don’t really know what I’m doing when it comes to skill checks. This was very helpful, I will definitely be visiting Withers momentarily to respec.
Did a halfling paladin with my buddies (halfling ranger, halfling bard and human barbarian) and all the romance options and speech checks are fucking hilarious lol.
I don't know if you knew, I was expecting Larian to fix this but it still seems to be in the game so idk if it's just not known enough or intended. You can apply Vow of Enmity on yourself to give advantage against every enemy. It definitely feels like an oversight or bug of some sort, but it does make vengence incredibly silly to play with.
Question about dialogue encounters & approval: If you have one of your companions conduct the dialogue .. let's say you choose NOT to run as a Paladin, so your build has low Charisma .. Interestingly, my first playthrough was as an evil Drow Cleric. Sided with Minthara and everything. The second playthrough is now as a Paladin (good/Tiefling). Thanks for the videos! [edit] Also, why start with 17 STR and 15 CHA? Is that from your DnD days? In BG3, you're better off going 16/16 and getting that benefit to CHA. At level 4, you'll be at 18/16 anyway, without losing the CHA (persuasion, trading, etc.) benefits early on.
@@juusovuolle8251 The Hag hair still puts you in an odd space, and that occurs after finding Withers. Might as well balance it out to 16 and benefit from the score.
I have a level 12 Red Dragonborn Sorcadin (Paladin/Sorcerer) and have to say enjoy it alot, I love Dragonborn I think they look cool and their lore is awesome, plus I love the personality and spells of the Paladin.
I made a paladin before watching this and broke my oath by sneak attacking the two Tieflings holding Lae'zel hostage. 😂😂😂 this is my first time playing any D&D game and had no idea about the paladin tenets. I'm ashamed to say I save scummed and went about the interaction a different way. 😅
you can respec at anytime for pocket change, theres no point having odd points like that, just respec whenever theres a item or feat thats going to change that
An unfortunate thing about the Oathbreaker Paladin's Aura of Hate is that it specifically states that it adds to the *melee weapon attacks* of undead. This means that zombie fist attacks and skeleton arrows do NOT get the bonus from the aura. I'm hoping that this is a bug that they can patch at some point, rather than rules as intended, because I was soooooo disappointed when I discovered this
Love the videos and how you go more in depth on things like tenants. Do you think you could go in-depth on the different deities for the clerics and give a little background on the lore
My favourite RP build is 5 levels of paladin, (intentionally) break my oath, then have my paladin turn to darker forces for the power he needs, spurred on by the OB knight who points out no power is good or evil, it's just what you use it for. A great reason to turn into a lockadin that fits the character. More so for Durge.
Omg I cant believe what I have been sleeping on. I have never previously played paladin in BG3, although I played it in Solasta... My first experience was on ... I dont know... but it was either on story mode or balanced. And I just didnt like it. So came honour mode and I ... decided to play a paladin. Nyrulna, spell slot shield from Act 2 Vendor, armour from Dammon... 26 AC... and boy my paladin was an absolute beast. I literally destroyed thinks that couldnt even scratch me. What an amazing class. By the way, it was on honour mode. I absolutely love this class.
Currently playing karlach 4/paladin 8/barb, when I get wyll to level 7 I'm going to do this. I personally find warlock to be an underwhelming class, it's kind of average in both spellcasting and melee, however this adds better damage and support.
paladin/warlock is really fun and versatile, you get more spell slots and divine smite. Especially if you pick pact of the blade, then you can make 3 melee divine smites in one single turn, crazy dmg!
Question for single player, will Withers allow you to respec your class, if you broke your oath? I know in multiplayer, currently, you have to re-swear to your oath prior to being able to respec (I hope Larian provides an option around this at some point.).
If you're an oathbreaker and you want to respec then you gotta pay the fine first even in singleplayer. So until there's a patch that let's you respec while still locking you in to oathbreaker you gotta plan ahead if you plan on being one or always be paying/looking for ways to break your oath every time.
Not only do you have to pay but you have to pay an increasing amount each time you break your oath. Had to pay 2100 to respec and decided to just stick it out
Be careful with Oathbreaker. They can't respec like the other subclasses. I didn't learn that until beginning of act 2. If you want to go Lockadin as an Oathbreaker, then you should add in the Warlock multi ASAP and THEN break your oath. Since I messed up, I haven't been able to figure out a way to break my oath of vengeance past act 1. It's okay though. The side stories gave my Paladin an incredible RP redemption arc to follow.
Might be too late at this point but in act 2 there's a sidequest where a guy asks you for help punishing a criminal. If you instead forgive the criminal, you break your Oath of Vengeance. There are a few other ways but vengeance is a difficult one to break. Check the wiki linked in the description, the page for each oath details a few ways to break it in every act.
but im pretty sure the oathbreaker knight lets you reinstate your oath. idk though havent tried it. for all i know you have to fight him. on my pally though i got voss’s sword from act 1 so i dont really care about not respeccing on my gith
Always love the guide but 3 main stats at odd levels for ability points it a bit too jank. Just run 16 str/cha and 14 con, maybe bumping str to 17 if you want to use a certain item in act 1. Respec's are so cheap you may as well optimize character creation for the early game and really only have an odd point if you have a plan for it
is it viable to multiclass into fighter for your last two levels for the action surge? so you'd be a pally 5, warlock 5, fighter 2? or do you benefit more from going to 7 in either class? or would a pally 6 warlock 6 be something to consider, as well? aghhhhh damn this game and all it's choices! Can't wait until I have a more complete understanding of this game! I've always wanted to get into Tabletop D&D but never had the chance, So BG3 is, so far as I can tell, the next best thing! With a decent amount of changes from 5e rules, of course. but it seems like most D&d vets are mostly satisfied with Larian's changes. the exception being, the lack of custom races and not all classes being available. Any D&D vets in the comment section feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, please. Again I'm a total noob to all this. anyways great content brother! keep it up!
Savage Attacker apparently applies to Smites as well but I have not tried this myself Edit: also I'm still of the opinion that PAM-Sentinel-GWM shenanigans should be primarily used with Fighter characters due to their extra feat at lvl 6 and not multiclass bc missing ASI is brutal and using your only 2 feats for a combo that is currently bugged just isn't worth it (from what I've heard PAM-Sentinel is still not working)
when playing a paladin I wanted something like an ancient knight of the round table kinda look and such...what would you recommend for that? I wanted to make sure I could used the whole sword and shield thing. XD
Very new to balders gate and havnt played dnd since I was probably 12. Looks super fun so far but I’ve been a little overwhelmed with it ngl anyone have little tips that would make the learning curve better?
I made a Paladin with noble background with 8 stats on str, dex and con, then dumped the remaining to int, wis then cha. He's an intimidation, persuasion and deception fiend but shid in a fight. Basically a pampered noble guy who's full of shid. Its so funny🤣
I was thinking of multiclassing Shadowheart so that she'd be a good girl with a very dark streak (I am still in act 1) but it seems she's been brainwashed by Sharitans, no? She starts as a cleric so I made her life domain healer but she drifts into necromancy. I think I'll make her a paladin oathbreaker and go heavy into necro magic and we'l see what happens. When she awakens (?), as maybe some story spoiler suggest, she can always restore her oath of devotion. Man, this gurl she really mixed up.
lol I started my first play through last week and I literally went for a silver Dragonborn oath of devotion paladin. I know nothing of baldurs gate this is my first time playing a dnd centric game and I’m having a blast. I just feel like I’m a little too squishy and I don’t deal any damage even when I’m right in front of these guys. Does all my damage come from my smite abilities? And when I’m using a shield, I wish there was a way to guard to gain extra defense, but maybe I’m playing wrong. I have two casters and a fighter on my team, but I keep getting outranged
Doesn't dualist only work with finesse weapons and the few none versatile weapons. Because it says when you have a none two hander or versatile weapons?
Nope! Just works with ANY weapon you're wielding with one hand. You can even wield a shield. I've tested this with versatile weapons! as long as it's with one hand and a shield, you're fine!
Yeah constitution is good because you will be casting spells that require concentration. Higher con means better concentration. Charisma is good too because it adds to your aura of protection. Dex only benefits you for initiative because you are wearing heavy armor and don't fight ranged.
2:03 does enlarge give you double your damage dice on weapon attacks like the 5e DMG says large weapons do, or does it only do the 1d4 from the 5e PHB spell description?
Race don’t really matter but you could go half orc cause when you crit you do much more damage when you a half orc and you can pair that with hold person and you gonna be killing everyone
7 levels into oathbreaker for the +4 dmg aura. and then 5 levels into pact of the blade for extra attack is pretty popular. I went with 10 tempest cleric 2 oathbreaker paladin for mainly thunderous smite in combination with max dmg. Did around 250 dmg late game so that was pretty funny. I like to call it my One Smack Man.
I really really wish they gave race specific ability scores, there is no impact to your race choice and some races that were amazing in 5e are dog shit in baldur's gate like the mountain dwarf (shield dwarf), human, and half elf
There was different racial ability point bonuses etc in early access but they removed it for some reason. I agree it adds to the flavour, at least they kept things like dark vision, fey ancestry etc though
In 20ish years of playing D&D, Paladin has been the class I never play. Their oath really restricts the "lawful neutral" playstyle I like. Even if they pack a massive punch, I dont think I'll ever this class in BG3 unless I want an Oathbreaker/Necromancer.
I think Oath of Vengeance is pretty morally ambiguous. See the movie Law Abiding Citizen - guy does some dark shit for the sake of vengeance. A lot of westerns probably fit the bill too - like Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven as example. If you can't roleplay a neutral character devoted to the idea of vengeance for some slight, I don't think you're trying very hard. Some freak put a parasite in my brain and I'm gonna turn into a monster in a few days? You bet your ass vengeance is on my mind, to the point I couldn't care less about anything else unless it helps me make those f'ers pay.
@@thesorrow312 I like to be able to give the order to fire at a teenage Head Priestess, who is being used as a puppet, giving a speech and say, "these orders protect the country." I also want to be able to push a bosun overboard after warning him not to hit the cabin boy, because it is morally wrong to hit a child.
If you are a guy always circumcised because uncircumcised is gross and depending on how savage your character is then use unshaven but if you got a smooth talking bard then shave them pubes if you are choosing a girl its your preference for being shaved or not
14:34 Video game RPG's are severely lacking in actual RP systems that utilise character (by true definition). It wouldn't hurt for studios to implement this stuff from tabletop more often. Having to choose a negative and positive characteristic in "character" creation would be nice. If you look at something like Skyrim for example: Actual character has barely any input in the game and decisions are almost exclusively made by the player. In comparison, Disco Elysium minimises the tendency to put stats first and even completely removes the utterly pointless "pick a haicut" BS, in favour of being character driven. Lots of publishers have pushed for Role-playing elements but most games fail to achieve anything close, which is in turn creating a false perception of what the genre is. Hopefully before AI destroys the planet, we at least get some proper role-playing games out of it :)
Dragonborn's color does not have any meaning in the game nor in D&D. A half dragon is a completely different race, and with that race the colors do matter. Like, a red half dragon means trouble. Dragonborn's aren't even related to dragons in any way, they were created to serve dragons but share no ancestry with them. Half dragons do.

@estroulap act 3 allows to make an oath with certain npcs. Breaking those oaths seems to have similar affect.
@jonathandeuger8288 1k gold and you can get your oath back. It's just costly and can be annoying.
@@azurearcade342 oh ok. good to know.
Always love the guide but 3 main stats at odd levels for ability points it a bit too jank. Just run 16 str/cha and 14 con, maybe bumping str to 17 if you want to use a certain item in act 1.
Respec's are so cheap you may as well optimize character creation for the early game and really only have an odd point if you have a plan for it
This is my first playthrough and that's what i did! 16 str/cha and 14 con
In a van down by the river!
Warlock Invocation: Agonizing Wheeze - add your asthma
in 65 hrs in w my pally and i am excited for this 😆
is it viable to multiclass into fighter for your last two levels for the action surge?
so you'd be a pally 5, warlock 5, fighter 2?
or do you benefit more from going to 7 in either class? or would a pally 6 warlock 6 be something to consider, as well? aghhhhh damn this game and all it's choices!
Again I'm a total noob to all this. anyways great content brother! keep it up!
Can you channel your oath while wildshaped or otherwise transformed?
Nay because it counts as casting a spell unfortunately :(
Do rogue next please!
Savage Attacker apparently applies to Smites as well but I have not tried this myself
Edit: also I'm still of the opinion that PAM-Sentinel-GWM shenanigans should be primarily used with Fighter characters due to their extra feat at lvl 6 and not multiclass bc missing ASI is brutal and using your only 2 feats for a combo that is currently bugged just isn't worth it (from what I've heard PAM-Sentinel is still not working)
Please do Druid next.
when playing a paladin I wanted something like an ancient knight of the round table kinda look and such...what would you recommend for that? I wanted to make sure I could used the whole sword and shield thing. XD
Rolling a Paladin down down down by the river~~
Very new to balders gate and havnt played dnd since I was probably 12. Looks super fun so far but I’ve been a little overwhelmed with it ngl anyone have little tips that would make the learning curve better?
At 5 and 5, and I can't remember if it's level 2, but could you go Rogue and Thief for the extra action?
I’m playing with friends would their decisions affect my oath? (We haven’t started our first play through yet so wanna check before we start)
Great video! just a quick question, can i use Half-Elf for Paladin and use this build the same way?
Yes you can use every race with every class
You can go with a wizard dwarf
lol I started my first play through last week and I literally went for a silver Dragonborn oath of devotion paladin.
Why not Savage Attacker tho? It is triggered for Divine Smite as well
Does the oathbreaker aura also buff Spore Druid fungus zombies? I haven't attempted it yet
Su ps5 non trovo l'opzione che mi fa scegliere la divinità qualche aiuto?
Im doing a dragonborn paladin in my next playthrough with the blood of lathander as my main weapon.
Me like the half orc paladin just for the bigger crits
If your constipation is at a 13 stop playing paladin and contact a doctor immediately
If I use the gauntlets that give 23 strength, could I sack the strength in my build and put them into something else?
Would Charisma be next best?
Yeah constitution is good because you will be casting spells that require concentration. Higher con means better concentration. Charisma is good too because it adds to your aura of protection. Dex only benefits you for initiative because you are wearing heavy armor and don't fight ranged.
I'm just starting out BG3 and I'm really new to DnD. I thought a dark urge paladin. Think that would be a bad choice for a first run through?
It would be a fun challenge I think.
2:03 does enlarge give you double your damage dice on weapon attacks like the 5e DMG says large weapons do, or does it only do the 1d4 from the 5e PHB spell description?
1d4
@@nunya_bizniz So very lame, and no Reach like back in 3.5.
Paladin is great and all, but fear Griznold RumpHumper…the mighty gnome monk!
My first character was a gnome monk and sweet Jesus i was laughing my ass off for half of the gameplay
so dext paladin with shield master would be a good tank?
Absolutely!
My favorite Class :D!!!!!
What exactly is an “oh shit button”? I never heard that one before
Best race for oath of vengeance?
Race don’t really matter but you could go half orc cause when you crit you do much more damage when you a half orc and you can pair that with hold person and you gonna be killing everyone
No love for Savage Attacker? :(
Random comment for UA-cam algorithm
First. Hope it’s a good video paladin is my next play through.
Imagine being 10 min late abd still saying "first". How bad is your net, buddy?
Imagine giving a shit if he's 10 mins late or not.
@@xSintex well when I posted it had been live for 23 seconds with no likes or comments. That means first.
Man your voice is the same as Matt Heafy from Trivium 😮
you can still simte in rage
Why did you never explain why you selected oath of ancients for this multi class build?
I haven’t got this game yet, my first DND character was a Paladin. Do select which god to worship?
Not in BG3! :)
@@italianspartacus Ah, a little disappointed to be honest because part of my character would be connected to a god of magic. Oh well
If you dip 1 lvl into cleric you can.
I wish I could play Githyanki but there so uglyyyyy
Make em female!! The female ones aren't as bad Hahah
@@BSUF303ppl wanna play sexy characters, so if the fugly ones and the manlets have the best stats they're gonna riot
Lawful neutral? So you like to play a robotic Bureaucrat that goes around saying "the law is the law"?
@@thesorrow312 I like to be able to give the order to fire at a teenage Head Priestess, who is being used as a puppet, giving a speech and say, "these orders protect the country." I also want to be able to push a bosun overboard after warning him not to hit the cabin boy, because it is morally wrong to hit a child.
Instead of appetizing, try palatable. 😂
What genitals settings should we use?
If you are a guy always circumcised because uncircumcised is gross and depending on how savage your character is then use unshaven but if you got a smooth talking bard then shave them pubes if you are choosing a girl its your preference for being shaved or not
I tired a good amount of multi classes with paladin, I couldn't. I hate it or at least I haven't found my comfort with it
Don't be acting like you like dwarves now, your stream watchers know better.
Mwhahahah
Racials aren't anything if you hate your character.
What does this even mean?
No idea why people love this class. The mobility of the class is fucking ass.
