    I don't know if this is in the video, but a BIG tip for console.
    Go into settings, turn off adding things to the wheel like scrolls, potions, arrows and all that clutter.
    And INSTEAD put all your Arrows in a bag, scrolls in another, potions and so forth, and add THOSE to the wheel
    it makes it a LOT easier, I never used my arrows because of the clutter, now I have a bag with arrows in my main wheel for my ranger and it makes it so easy

    • @Sergio0hf
      @Sergio0hf 9 місяців тому +8

      This work with equipment too! have two pairs of gloves that use for different things? put them on the wheel for easg quickswap, rings or anything.
      just know that you can only add things to the wheel that aren't actively equipped, so you will have to add things, unequip/swap, add those to the wheel and then you are set

    Something I like doing is triggering Opportunity attacks from big enemies with my high AC or very tanky characters (like a Bear Barbarian) in order to let my casters or ranged characters move out of threatened reach without getting hit.
    A very early example of this is, on the Nautiloid, if you're within reach of the Commander after stealing his sword, you can have Us get close to him, then move away to trigger the attack of opportunity against him since he has 20+ HP, and then your main character or Lae'zel is free to move away without any risk of losing health.
    Making sure you turn spellcasters' attacks of opportunity to "Ask" is CRITICAL if they have access to spells like Shield or Counterspell, because swinging a staff on an 8 Strength character is much less valuable than Counterspelling a Fireball, or casting Shield against an attack that can hit them. If your caster swung their staff and hit for 2-3 damage, and then get downed because they didn't have their reaction to Shield, you'll for SURE remember to switch all reactions to "Ask" 😂

One melee class that gets in the thick of things, and one healer/buffer to keep everyone alive and healthy. Tore up honor mode using this comp

      @@AkaiCrimson One thing that might help is bypassing the dialogue with him by casting daylight on someone/something and approaching him. Daylight used to be able to just drain his life without even entering combat (if you stood far enough), but I think they fixed it.
      By pre-casting Daylight on my last run, it bypassed the dialogue, debuffed him, and screwed with the regular initiative rolls (that usually favor him). If you do use Daylight just remember to deactivate it before killing him/opening the casket, cause it might damage the spawn and prevent cutscenes from being played.

    This is just an organisation tip for people playing on pc, but it helped me a lot during combat: if you have a lot of pouches and backpacks, keep usable items organized, keep all arrows in one, all potions in another, all scrolls in another etc. AND additional tip for that , because you can’t name the pouches and I can’t be bothered to remember which one has what ,what I do is i keep a pouch, next to the pouch I keep one item that shows what’s inside as an icon (ex. [a pouch with arrows] [1 flaming arrow] [empty spaces]) it helps me A LOT I recommend trying this

      Another thing i started doing is dividing up the loot I get with my teammates. When I first started, I found my bags getting full crazy fast and it’s cuz I can’t use it all fast enough compared to the rate at which I loot. I have a character with a bane heavy xbow I give all the magic arrows. Elixirs and potions get divided based on the damage/effect they do. Melee fighters get poisons/weapon coating. And the really heavy stuff (you can sort by weight to see what’s holding you down) I put on my STR character since they can hold more and so the weight isn’t that noticeable for them.

    Man, there's so much more to this game than I expected. I thought I'd be ok since I've played a turn-based game before (but it was Final Fantasy 1 (or technically 3?)) and some games with a lot of spells (WoW since BC, FF online etc), but nothing like this.
    I started on regular/middle difficulty, but quickly switched to story after dying a lot. Ended up in some cave fighting spiders. I won, but my entire party was apparently hit with some DoT poison. Didn't know how to get rid of it, so I panicked and went to camp. Shadowheart ended up dying anyway.
    So, it was clear that I had to learn wtf to do. Normally, I only research games during the "select your class" section, and then again during a tricky part or two. This game, though, makes me feel like I need to enroll in a community college course. Probably doesn't help that I've never played any D&D, so the terminology is also over my head.
    tl;dr - this video is exactly what I needed, so thank you!

    • @RKDriver
      @RKDriver 2 місяці тому +1

      The game for the most part plays like any other CRPG (i.e. Diablo). It's that it throws so much at you, so many spells, abilities, potions, elixirs and classes yet you have no concept of what these all mean unless like you said you enroll in a college course about it. A lot of games bring you up slowly and let you build on what you already have and learned. Not this one. It gives you stacks of stuff to sift threw all at once so in combat, I often find myself just randomly selecting different weapon attacks or spells and saying "maybe this will work." I want to learn the game because I think it is that good but what is given in this video is just so far above a newb like me that I just lose interest. Give me the core basics and mechanics first. Maybe he did that but I just can't apply all of it now.

  • @Jules_Diplopia

    Thanks for this "explainer" but one thing that you mentioned is that, such and such is useful if you know that you are going up against a particular enemy. The main issue is that if you don't know who you are going up against in advance, i.e. you have only played through once, then you don't know which consumables etc. you could use.
    Thanks for walking us through the battle. Some of those checks are on TT much clearer as the players would have to roll die. But in the game many of these die rolls are hidden, which is great for those of us with no DnD experience, but it does also hide the mechanics of why certain things happen.

With this information I *may* be brave enough to try tactician for my 2nd playthrough, we'll see! 😅

    I'm still early on in the video and picking up on things I'd missed on my first playthrough, so I'm not sure if what I mention here is addressed later on. If so, please ignore. Otherwise, something that can greatly improve your experience is proper item management - this can look a lot of different ways, but I'll give an example of what I did with my rogue:
    Any kind of consumable got their own pouch, and then all of those got stuck in a master pouch. It functions like a file system.
    Inventory
    >Key Ring
    >Ingredients Bag
    >Master Pouch
    >>>Arrows Pouch
    >>>Potions/Buffs Pouch
    >>>Throwables/Debuffs Pouch
    The biggest issue is that this is pretty heavy on pouches, requiring 4 per party member. You can sub backpacks here and there, but that extra weight will eventually start adding up. You can also use pouches that aren't called pouches - burlap sacks and other containers that weigh the same as a pouch.
    The next biggest issue is that I haven't found a way to get this method to function smoothly with the hotbar. I am frequently in my inventory during battle to select which items to throw and such.
    Personally, those are minor issues compared to the amount of time I spent searching a disorganized inventory trying to find the item I needed.
    EDIT: As a rogue, if you're wondering where your Thief's Tools/Disarm Kits Pouch is, it's Karlach.

      I'm at the end and I'm glad I watched. Most of these you can pick up on your first playthrough if you're observant, but I am still learning things like the constitution saving throw breakdown for concentration spells. I also love the perspective that these resources are party resources instead of individual character resources. It's something that I was finally coming around to but hadn't fully reached on my own. This video helped hammer it home.

    I have enjoyed your video content of Baldur's Gate, you always let your viewers know to just have fun with the game! I am just starting to play on console and with the first playthrough, I am testing the waters and enjoying the story on the lowest difficulty. I noticed you can't have multiclass on this level, so what would be a good main character to run through this that is a solo class?

    I needed this. I'm new to D&D and dice. I'm in my first run, and I'm lvl 10, and I still feel weak. I can get through fights, but they take forever and I barely win. I usually lose a companion or two and have to raise them. Then I have to go to camp after every fight. It makes the game boring. I'll watch this video, and I hope it helps me out. Because I need it. Thanks.

      You can play your best but sometimes you just get REALLY unlucky and you'll take some huge losses. Then there's inverse situations where your dice rolls make an otherwise insane boss fight go smooth as silk, or sometimes just skipping it entirely. Such are the heady gambling joys of DnD style games 😹

    Great video as usual. i would love to hear more about Metamagic. I find it difficult to know what Metamagic options I will find useful. I think it really depends on what type of spells you are using but there are a lot of variables. They can be used in multi classing for Cleric spells and others so that makes it even more nuanced. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for sharing your experience!!

    I played Dungeons & Dragons in 1986 - Blue Box. Since then I only had two major campaigns Wolf Queen and Oriental Adventures. Since then I never returned to the game except for Beyond The Supernatural. I bought a 5th E book and only read a little of it to build a Ranger character. Baulder's Gate 3 overwhelmed me to the point of restarting several times. I looked at Wikis, YT content, and I still had trouble with the dynamic of the game. This video fills in something I knew but didn't really understand. If there isn't a beginners guide playlist yet, this should be the third or fourth video. Thanks again Sparticus. Do you have a discord by chance?

      I'm in this same predicament rightnow actually. I've had the game now for a few days so far, and i just find this all to be so overwhelming having not played a DnD game b4. Ive made 3 characters so far, and actually thinking of making a new 1 that is a storm sorcerer 😂😂. My 1st character was wild magic sorcerer and i fucked up with Karlach bcuz i raided the Grove, and i really wanted her as a companion.

    • @persistentpally
      @persistentpally 26 днів тому

      @@LyranVega I understand about choosing your battles. It will be hard for me to do an evil playthrough, but I'll do it. I love Karlach. I've decided to keep everyone in camp, so I'll have Astarion and Lae'zel. I don't like their personalities, but every part of BG3 is important to pursue. I've never had more than one character, but you do bring to this discussion that you can create multiple character concurrently. It is a better option than restarting...just have a 4TB hard drive, and your set. My issue isn't getting through the dialog; it's going too fast. I collect everything for that reason. I limit myself to the number of major encounters to 2 per session or 2 hours of play time. I want to really explore the possibilities of every inch of Act 1 and Act 2. It is such a fun game.

    Thanks for all the tutorial type videos. They DO help. I’ve only beat the game once and missed sooo many things.
    The silly thing is that I’ve been playing D&D since the 80’s and still find new things about the game.
    For instance, in this video your characters have all kinds of equipment I’ve never seen. So I was thinking it’d be pretty kewl to see a video for optimized setups. For instance, an “ultimate” ranger build, and where to get the optimized equipment.
    Anyhoo, my most sincere thanks for all the time/energy and resources that you’ve dedicated to these videos.
    …maybe even a video on how to make legendary characters like Drizzt, Elric of Melnibone’, or Raistlin Majere

    This shows tons of options for actual combat. For me it seems very confusing since I've never been past lvl 5 yet. Can you give an example of things such as, when your characters are not ranged and are far away from the bad guy. Or when you have a few options but not many. I get that disabling the foe seems to be first and foremost but... Well, just with more limited things that can be done per turn. Or maybe as close to a step guide as possible. It's frustrating and NOT fun when you attempt a fight for the 18th (exageration) time and still fail. Having said all that I have learned a ton from this video and your videos in general. I can't thank you enough.
