Omg Akis!! My Papou used to make this ALL. THE. TIME.! When my Yiayia passed away, this was one of 2 or 3 dishes he always made for himself (and he taught me too 🙂)... I still think of him every, single time I make this! Thankyou for the sad/happy memories!
Akisssssssssss!!! You are amazing! My boyfriend is Greek and I've made quite a few authentic Greek meals for him, learned them from your teachings, and he loves the authenticity! I am Puerto Rican descendant and he says that my Greek food is right on point as a Greek! That's an honor really! Thanks to you my friend, I've learned so much, thank you!
I made this soup, your Moussaka and your Greek salad with Feta cheese today, for my family. Everyone loved the food, it was a great time. All thanks to you chef! Keep these great videos coming
Akis, really... I love these simple and yet very greek recipes. I love it when you say "In Greece we Always...." and I have the chance to learn from your eating and cooking habits. Thanksa lot na dcongratulations on your work here!!!
I have been told about this recipe from one of my greek friends and it is very nice. I cook it myself. Greek cusine is delicious, same as our egyptian cusine. Bravo!
Every Friday during Lent, the parish to which I belonged served (after Stations of the Cross) a dinner of bread and various vegetarian soups. So, instead of observing the Lenten fast at home, it was far more enjoyable to observe it with the parish community. Lentil soup was a staple of their repertoire. It's one of my favorites.
I love this recipe. I’ve made it with & without tomatoes due to a family member who can’t have tomatoes & he asked for another bowl. I even forgot the bay leafs the 2nd time & it was still soooooo gooood!!! Ty ty!
Akis! I made this soup 3x! It's easy and yummy! I'm making it again now! It's so good! I made a pot for my friend who came out of hospital, she loves it. Thank you! I love your easy recipes!
Excellent tip!!! i did not know adding salt before it is cooked will make lentils hard... now i know while before my lentils took so much time to cook 😶.... Thanks Akis!! 😘
this looks amazing. i love bay leaves so much and i never thought of adding them to lentils. you lovely greek people are geniuses 😁. Akis, you can't imagine how my cooking skills improved since i discovered your channel 😂😂. my greek skills as well 😂. i am going to greece this summer!
Nice one! In the northwest of Spain we do the same recipee but instead of tomato and celery we put potato and pepper. And, at the last 20 - 15 min we add one fresh chorizo and a slice of pancetta. Of course all of that with a great olive oil.
Akis Kitchen looks so delicious specially for dinner 😉 i love the olive oil so much ❤❤ its like a magic in every dish ..thx so much our special chef am so happy to be a member of ur channel 💖💖💖💖🌸🌸🌸🌸
Fantastic recipe, tried it out today for the very first time and turned out very good. Next time I will take a tad less cumin because I was a bit too generous with it. It's such an easy dish with simple down-to-earth ingredients yet absolutely delicious. Thank you for sharing it.
I just Instant Pot-ted this recipe and it is so good. I didn't have any white wine vinegar, so I topped it with lemon juice - delicious. This will be a soup I will make regularly for sure. Thanks!
I just made this recipe to the letter of instruction. I’m terrible at making soup. It’s always bland when I try but this is inanely delicious! And so easy to put together! Thank-you!
Man! It's raining in my mouth....especially seeing the olives and the anchovis as a side dish....and before I can imagine a small cup of Tsipouro (hope I got that right...)
Aki love the way you cook..healthy and delicious as reminds me of my days in Italy with all the healthy herbs, olives, anchovies, crusty bread, and olive oil...Great job
I never liked lentil soup until I was given some by a greek friend, and absolutely loved it. I'm hoping this is the dish she made, but I'm sure it will be delicious regardless. Thank you for the tip about the salt and lentils, I've never cooked with them before (:
I used to dread this dish as a child, now I go to restaurants and pay $6 for a small bowl. Corona lockdown has me making it at home for now. This recipe is nice, it got me to add cumin to the batch I'm making. I prefer balsamic vinegar.
I made this w minor modifications and it is a really nice and hearty everyday soup, or maybe in half portion the beginning of an elaborate dinner. I used the pressure cooker, and much less liquid/broth. 20 min under pressure for unsoaked green/brown lentils. My soup was thicker, which is how I like it. My other additions are a teaspoon of cane sugar in the beginning (to help those tomatoes), and a dash of lemon juice in the end. I used Worcestershire sauce for some umami, instead of the sides.
Akis 🙏 please 🙏 please do make a video on "Pumpkin soup" . I would love to learn it from you as, you are SO good at making cooking easy & fun 👌 for all levels especially beginners. Love watching your videos 💋 Thanks Akis😍
Ah I have been looking for this recipe for so long, its so sad that our senior members of our families never wrote their recipes down to pass on, thank you Akis, this means a lot to me lol x
I make something like this that I adapted from Stella Kopulos' & Dorothy Jones' "Adventures in Greek Cookery" (Thos Y Crowell Co, 1972). I use cider vinegar instead and often add a handful of coarsely chopped greens towards the end - like kale or spinach. Sometimes I even meatify it by frying some diced kielbasa with the onions. I never make it twice the same way. Well, hardly ever.
I also add some feta and fresh ground pepper when I serve my dish. I have also tried to add pieces from parmigiano reggiano when I didn't have feta in the soup at the end and it is lovely. Try it!
Looking forward to our next meal tonight having just used the Greek Lentil soup video to put it all together!! Thank you Akis Kitchen for invigorating my mostly vegan/vegetarian diet!! Love the combination of flavors.
Bravo vre Aki! GREEK olive oil!! Polli agape apo mia maniatissa sto Los Angeles!!

Amazing! We make this soup every New Year and tradition says: lentils bring you luck and wealth for the year! Never tried with anchovies! Gonna try it next time!
This is the first time I made a veggie soup that my husband actually liked 🤣🤣🤣 I stopped making soup’s because it never came right...but as you say Akis, this is perfection 😍😍😍 Lovely..it will be often on my menu. And I love that it’s soooo simple ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you! It made my day, I enjoyed cooking. I love your channel 🥰
Your recipes are amazing, Akis!! Reminds me of all of the delicious food Yia Yia and Papou used to make for us! Thank you for sharing... I'm making your yogurt recipe this weekend!
Akis you sound like an interesting person and you know a lot of stuff I've been to Greece.Great country,do not remember eating Greek food.Had lovely olives.
Akis, this is a simple, absolutely delicious recipe. One of my favorites. However, I’m a bit concerned with you. You weren’t your usual spirited, vivacious self. If something was ailing you, I hope everything is ok by now. We all have days when we’re not quite ourselves. You’re still a favorite of mine.
A version of this is an absolute staple "masoor daal" in many parts of India. Carrots and celery are not usually added though. What we typically do is add some turmeric, red chili powder, coriander and cumin powder and garam masala to the onions when they are sauteing, then add the tomatoes, then the lentils and cook it all off. Sometimes baby spinach is mixed in right at the end to make it more nutritious. The daal is then served garnished with a few teaspoons of cream or yogury and freshly chopped coriander(cilantro) with naans, parathas or rice and is almost exactly the consistency of this soup. :) :)
I know this is random, but you shouldn't mix lentils with dairy. It can cause an upset tummy. The dairy also blocks iron absorption (and lentils are a good iron source). Sounds yummy without the yogurt though!
for those that arent greek and wanna try this dish: ALWAYS put white wine vinegar or apple vinegar when served, it gives amazing flavour.
I added the juice of one lemon, it added a great flavour.
I do balsamic
Will try with apple cider vinegar
Thank you. I've never heard of that and I love lentil soup!
Thank you!
These pulse recipes are great during this self isolation period, we all have them in the cupboard and they keep forever
Totally agree! I turned into a chef at home while socially distancing 😂🤣

This is what Diogenes of Sinope ate for supper. Love it.
I love vegetarian foods!
And Greece has many vegetarian foods, please do more vegetarian and vegan recipes.
Cheers! :)
@cassl14 He says it's vegetable stock. Though, with all those vegetables, you can skip on bouillons or stock altogether.
Back at home Peru we eat lots of pulse dishes, but my partner loves Greek cooking, so thank you for sharing your passion. 😍😋

you don't want to have lentils for dinner, too heavy on the intestine system.
it's really lovely that you plant your own herbs
I just Instant Pot-ted this recipe and it is so good. I didn't have any white wine vinegar, so I topped it with lemon juice - delicious. This will be a soup I will make regularly for sure. Thanks!

a staple of Indian cuisine!

You can totally skip the yogurt. It's just for garnish anyway.
I was looking for a soup recipe and I found goooold Marzia, goooold!
AKIS' at more greek dish. I love greek food.
