Pasticcio (AKA Pastichio - Παστίτσιο in Greek) is maybe the most favorite dish in Greece, especially among children, teenagers and pasta lovers of all ages. Akis has strayed a little bit from the standard recipe 'enhancing' the pasta with feta cheese, but that's actually pretty clever, since I've always thought the pasta layer to be a little 'flat' flavorwise. Of course, feta cheese has a salty, sort of tangy flavor, which might not be well liked by everybody, but one might well use some other, sweeter and smoother type of cheese (Gruyère or even Parmesan).

And it's not the only one. We have some dozens of pasta dishes and ingredients in Greece, identical to Italian dishes, recorded in Greece since at least 1300's, probably thanks to venetian colonization. just google hilopites, krytharaki, gogkes etc

Chef, you just solved the problem for me as you showed us how we can put spaghetti noodles on the bottom of this dish, which I am now going to try instead, as it looks super delicious. Thank you.

delightful, I can't wait to make it- i am gluten intolerant so I'll have to create your recipe with gluten free ingredients....but I am determined and this looks so amazing , thank you for your fun, fast, fabulous videos for Greek Recipes. I was recently in Alaska with my sisters and we attended a Greek Festival, my favorite part was touring the church, beautiful lifesize paintins of saints all over every wall. So I always think of this when watching and listening to your videos.
    Cheers Aki

Nice! I prefer mine with pork mince :) but I love the idea of putting feta in to it... you can never have too much cheese :)
