LYRICS
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
The beast still shouts for what it’s yearning
He stokes the fire, desire burning
The never-ending quenchless craving
The unforgiving misbehaving
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
So paint your eyes as black as sorrow
Hide yourself behind tomorrow
The nightmares search for infiltration
In domination, captivation
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Return again to where it’s darkest
Dragging home this heathen harvest
And all the children subjugated
Manipulated, propagated
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be

The fact that it's 2023 and we're getting new Metallica songs is absolutely amazing!
Thank you legends!
Whatever they output... you will love it. That's sad. This is synthetic music designed for making money without effort. Motorhead played this way. Mtllc = copycats.

Sad but true. LOL
Motorhead for more that 30 years did what mtllc have done since the early 90s. I love metal music and it is frustrating meeting people who think mtllc is more important than metal music. Did you know James and Lars considered Iron Maiden rivals? WOW! Just like Kiss did. There are and were so many superb bands out there... and you dont take a look at them. Obliveon, Atheist, Equinox, Sadus, Gorement! Music not money.

Whojojouh, whojojouh.
You can tell this song is super personal to James. That "hide yourself behind tomorrow" line is telltale for anyone that's ever dealt with addiction.
This is about procrastination of getting clean. Ah just another hit. Tomorrow I’ll get clean. I promise. And the cycle goes around again. In the meanwhile, let’s have another beer.
Abuse, Depression, Suicide. A lot the older songs James wrote too. Kinda funny how Metallica won me over with just the music side of it when I was younger (I'm a guitar player), I understood the lyrics, but I just didn't actually "feel" them. Now in my early 30s I've been to a psych ward, rehab, abused a handful of substances, ODd, made mistakes, life experience, etc and going back to Metallica now I can empathize much more with the hell James lived through, and I'm worried about his mental state, as he's going through a divorce and shit. He opened up to a crowd about his depression not too long ago. Hope he's ok and knows he's made a positive impact in a lot of people's lives.
@@MrMOGHammer 🍺🍺🍺cheers til tomorrow...then I'm done!🤘
@@L3ONARDO07 Sounds like you’re like me. Metallica literally evolved in sync with my life. Right before this album was announced, I started doing serious work toward processing my childhood. Before St. Anger came out, I was in the throes of my own anger issues. Before Death Magnetic, I was very preoccupied with death. It’s pretty fucking crazy.

This is by far the best song on the 72 Seasons album. Absolutely epic
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice meeting you here.
To be honest it sounds bland to me I think they have lost the magic
agree
Agreed.
This is by far the best song on this album. 37 years a fan now see them multiple times and it’s always phenomenal. Keep shreddin brothas!
This whole album is amazing. James voice is better than ever. Whoever produced this did an excellent job with the sound
I think it's the same guy, Greg Fidelman; he's still annoying me. The sound is the best since ReLoad, but while no longer clipping, it's still brickwalled. I feel like Lux Aeterna is the only song with a bit of room for the reverb, which that song seems to have a lot of. I got back to Lightning or Muppets or Load to hear the breathing room.
Over produced in my opinion
At least he is isn’t doing the squealing in this song.
Thanks to Bob Rock’s influence, I think since “The Black Album,” he’s tried too hard and got pretty cheesy.
He’s much better when he just sings as himself and doesn’t try to add all of the “artifacts” in like squeals, et cetera.
@@staygold902 everything they’ve done has been over-produced since “the black album.”
They, clearly, were more concerned with radio play and profits.
Most of the other “big four” bands have stayed fairly true to themselves.
But, then again, maybe James and Lars are staying true to themselves. Maybe their political awareness and desire for complexity was just a phase. Maybe they changed and no longer care about the state of the nation, the state of the people, the death of democracy, the ravages of war.
Maybe now, they just want to write music that is simple to play and people can shake their booties to it.
However, I will give them respect for this song. It’s got a dark feel.
I’ve got to give some respect. Metallica had a little an influence on me when I started writing thrash metal and playing in bands.
Although, admittedly, I was MORE (musically) influenced Hexanhaus, Overkill and Death Angel.
Jame’s vocal style definitely (originally) influenced my style.
I just wish they would care about social issues, again. They have the power to influence people, wake them the f… up.
But, I guess, once some people become wealthy, they become detached from the struggles of people who are less affluent. I guess they no longer care about service members who get used like pawns in illegal wars.
I cared, in my teens. I joined (for financial reasons). I served in an illegal invasion. So, my level of care about corruption only increased with age.
I just wish Jame’s still cared about service members, and other who struggle.
He used to care about freedom and had a dislike for corruption. I wish he still would.
I can't stand the kick...it sound awful and I am amazed these takes are the golden ones by Lars...holy sh*t.
But agree with other it sound brickwalled and just flat boring. Was expecting more..
I’m not a perfect parent - far from it, in fact - but when I cranked this song in the car and my 5 year-old daughter asked “Daddy, is this Metallica??” it damn near brought tears to my eyes. Proof that I did SOMETHING right in this whole parenting thing!
Took my kiddo to see Metallica live when he was 10. He is 22 now and they are his favourite band . \\m// *5s Dads

Metallica will always be the heart and soul of metal to me. Been a fan for 35 years
Same here dude, 1988 AJFA. Been in my heart ever since. I believe I totally get what they're about. Most of the negative comments come from people who barely know them.
same here, Since RTL when I was 11 years old... but justice is my all time favourite. This track is killer, looking forward to the new release.
Most negatives comments come from unhappy people who don't have a life, they just want a reaction, I block that all out and just crank the volume louder. I'm 51 now, and it's crazy how I can still see me and my buddies in the mosh pit making our way to front row. That was during the And justice for all tour. We made it to the first row and it was the coolest thing to experience. Everyone should ride the lightning and not everyone's ass about nothing.
@@viperbites7274 Negative comments come from people who don't like the new songs, there is nothing wrong with that, they are allowed to express any emotion or opinion they have about the songs.
Music is completely subjective, you can't force yourself to like something if you don't. I personally like all the new songs, but I didn't like DM or HTSD. In my opinion, people can be as negative as they like, it never bothers me, it doesn't change my enjoyment of the music I like.
Ok?
This song has some solid chops. I love that after 40 years Metallica can observe simplicity in music and show that it doesn’t always have to be a shredder to be a good song! Hard hitting, meaningful music here man! Love it!

i’m starting to see the whole concept behind 72 seasons after this video. they’re going through all of their history of all their music styles over the years and compiling it into one album. hence, why this song sounds similar to some of their earlier tracks.
This whole album is going to be one legendary story and I cannot wait.
HTSD went on that way...
it’s honestly got a black album vibe. if this was tuned to d standard it would be crazy
It’s probably a final salute before retiring. Lars bringing back his iconic drum kit, songs that are clearly inspired from their back catalogue. It’s been a good ride
This song sounds like Load and Reload albums, which is not a bad thing.
This song seems like a mix of Justice for all and Black album.
Best metal band ever. makes me hyped up, you guys always remind me to keep going in life and not to quit.
My favorite song on this whole album. Its so good. I bet if they made this album 37 years ago they would get more love for this album.
Definitely my favorite of the 3 new singles. Deliciously edgy. And that "TEMPTATION" chant is so badass.
I believe they release songs from the the worse to the best!
Hell yh 🤘🏻
i recall "temptation" from st angers demo.. realisation of this is way better here
AGREE 🤘⚡⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⚡🤘
@@MrRonnie268 "worse to best " ? Metallica has has never released a bad song ,it's just the trolls an" ìnternet Karen's " just talkn shit because they are jealous because there lives suck an have never achieved nothing worth a shit in there worthless lives !
James' voice is amazing! 🔥
Lol
Yes Thanks to Autotune
@@enomusic_ lol. He does not use auto tune. He sounds just like this live.
@@enomusic_ jealous?
@@enomusic_ what the fuck. You're the first person on this planet to accuse a him of something like that. He's been singing probably long before you were born, and autotune wasn't really a thing until mid 90's.
This one did not grow on me the first few times, but then I listened to it live on the show in Amsterdam last April and I have been hooked ever since. I yelled "TEMPTATION" until my lungs were out.
Great Metallica of 2000's
Singer James Hetfield deserves admiration for writing a song exposing his struggle with addiction, as a human. We all have flaws, brave people admit them, talk about them and overcome them.
Lots of musicians do this…
Every song I've ever lyrically wrote with the exception of maybe 3 are ALL about my addiction issues etc.. lots of my favorite bands also write that way
He's written several songs about it
Sweet Amber!
The whole album is incredibly honest and well-written from a lyrical point of view. Musically, it's a masterpiece. HUGE respect for James, he is very brave in the way he exposes his inner turmoil to the World the way he does.
Favorite song of the 3 so far. Great riff, chugging heavy guitar throughout, really comes off as just classic Heavy Metal so to say. Makes you want to bang your head and throw your fist in the air.
My fav out of the first 3 also. Great intro and guitar riffs.
Anyone who reviews this song and says it's trash needs to get their head examined. For a band pushing 60, they really rock!!
It’s definitely the most classically Metallica song out of the 3.
yes!! I already like this album more then the previous one!
@@petermiller4953 Guess I need my head examined. The riffs and guitar work are great, but the singing is atrocious. This album so far reminds of of St Anger which is a pile of trash.
I love You Metallica!!!!!!
I kinda knew about Metallica but didn’t really know their work until this past weekend when I saw them not once but twice with my metalhead husband. This is the song that made me their fan and now I am catching up on the past however many years they have been around. My goodness! What a band! 🔥
Welcome to the family. 🤘
@natisha-welcome to the party. My experience was the same. I knew of the group but didn't know their stuff. A friend played a song from the black album and I've been rocking with them ever since. That album is loaded with good shit. Give it a listen 🤘🏾
They still have that vibe and their own style just like in their younger years ! Their songs old and new still give me the chills...such power and thrill all this time.
If you say so. I don’t like any of the new songs released so far. At all.
Although I loved HTSD
Sounds like eye of the beholder mixed with death magnetic and black album
what..? no
I was 11 in 1988 when I heard very first ever Metallica...now 2023 and I still love you guys! METALLICA FOREVER🤘🤘
Me too..... 11 in 88 and first heard Metallica.
I was in 8th grade in 87 and a buddy gave me a cassette of Puppets to listen to. Been a Metallica fan ever since. Seen them live 7times and have every album on vinyl plus tons of live shows. They are true legends in my eyes.
many people have been metalica fans for years i understand why this may be the best rock music i ever heard!
Wow what a track! Just monster Metallica sound in this one. This album is fire!
No contest for me, its the best song off this album so far. Getting some Load/Reload vibes off James' vocals, very dark, earns its name.
very reload vibes
I agree totally! The vocals, 4/4 drumming, the structure and even the ink blotches on the music video are like the CD singles had on their art!
Did remind me of load and reload
Ur kidding aren’t ya? Nothing like load/reload. Those were more hardrock bluesy songs. James had the softer vocals on them too. This is way more metal. His voice is more shot now too
There's been a lot of Load/Reload influences on the songs and I'm honestly all for it. They're some of my favorite records.
Best song of the Album.
Idk why ppl don’t like this song it’s a banger
Out of the 3 releases off the new album this is by far my favorite so far. Love it
Feel the same way. Best song so far. Wish more of Metallica's songs sounded like this. If it was just a little heavier it'd be perfect.
Same. All are great but this is the first one that surprised me
@@Tom-cf6zg yeah I thought it would be just another forgettable song that I don't really care about this is something that I would listen to
Really? I think it’s the weakest.
@@james7275able Same. I think James vocals are the biggest problem to my ears tho. I personally don't like this singing from Load/Reload
I’m absolutely ADDICTED to this song
Los haters aún resentidos con Metallica por lo de Napster, mientras yo me disfruto este tema que es uno de mis favoritos. Este disco es grande y uno de los mejores de su discografia por encima de lo que quieran decir... ¡Impresionante MetallicA! 💙🎶🤟🏼💀🎸
This track really hit the spot.
I've never been this excited for an upcoming Metallica album within the 21st century.
I'm hyped up after this song big time. I've never been this hyped after a new Metallica song. I'm drooling in anticipation of April 14th!
'Harvester of Sorrow' vibes 💯
I can't stop from listening to it again and again and again! God bless you Metallica
METALLICA FOR EVER
Favorite song on the Album
Metallica will never die.
🤔 thats a thrue fact
We’ll never stop we’ll never quit cause we’re Metallica
Never will die
Constipation! Constipation!
If they move out of the States this year, they might survive after the nuke war.
just insane how consistent they are man, such a sick riff its like Modern Eye of beholder like people are saying, the true Metallica gallop
yea, I though about this too, mate
I thought the same thing (about Eye of the Beholder)
@@rustyshackleford891 its sad how many people are haters
I got this album love this album this song and 72 seasons are my favorite I love rock music I love Metallica thank you for so many years of amazing music
Wow, what a wonderful song! Flashed me total. Love Metallica soooo much! One of the best bands in the world. In my mind, in my heart forever. 💓💓💓💓
It’s just good to see these dudes alive and well, making music. James’ voice is in very good shape, too.
Over 40 years and still kicking our asses! THAT is true metal greatness 🤘
Yes they are the mOSTt successful metal band EVER
АC /DC тоже неплохо
fukin a right!

Another banger, guys. Just wish my dad was still around to hear the new album.
He'll be with you on first listen, you can count on that.
Oh he hears it! Metallica plays loud enough for him to hear wherever he is!
He hears it brother. Crank that shit and blast it to the heavens
