My son's name is Atlas, I named him because of this song. When i listen to this song in the car, he yells 'thats my song' and starts to headbang in his seats . He is 5 years old now. :))
My daughter's name is Atlas too :)
nice, both of your kids are gonna be mad cool when they grow up

If my kid is half as cool as that at 5 I'll be happy for ever 🤘🤘🤘
This is my favorite Iron Maiden song.
ahahahah sadly true
yeah
Well Metallica is heavily influenced by Maiden, so I don't get what the issue is.
*Sad, but true. :D
Sad but true*
This is an underrated song. I forgot how enjoyable it really is.
This song deserved the Grammy.
it is really sad how they just dont play it anymore... Back when it was released it seemed like it would be a permanent song on the set list, they used to play it almost every concert

i just learned to play it and honestly its like a "slowish" and justice song. first of the latest albums songs that ive learned to play on guitar and i defintely need to learn more

This one has all the old Metallica elements, this could have been one they had written 30 years ago and just put it to the side, I wonder what the inspiration was for this one, when they started writing it, its not full Burton, Mustaine or even Newstead Metallica but it is a good one
Lars is a drummer that wanted to be a guitar player and James is a guitar player that wanted to be a drummer and it has made for some of the most unique arrangements and riffs ever\m/
And They Wanted to make Punk, but Harder. 😊
Explains why James can play drums better then Lars
Fuck that makes sense. I think you're right. They have a sense of rhythm worth a million dollars

Hands down this just has to be one of greatest Metallica songs ever both musically and lyrically!! It 's mythological allegorical theme , the riffs, the dual solo!!

I love how casual this music video is. It's just them goofing around the studio.

I hate one thing about comments on Metallica. Yes, Lars needs upgrading, yes,Kirk seems to play the same solo over and over again. But let's not forget a few thing: They're all over 50 years old, they created thrash metal, they still play (old school) thrash metal, they've been playing metal for more than 30 years now, and without them, a lotta bands would not be here (among them Testament, Slayer, Overkill, ...), so we'd better show more respect to this greaaaaat band who still gives us the opportunity to enjoy its music. They kicked asses, they're still kicking asses and they will kick asses! so long
Phil Bourgeois hell right🤘🏻
yeaaaah, but almost all of their peers aged waaaay better than Metallica
right
Yes dude. The respect is a very important thing nowadays that the majority of people are missing. We need to respect and enjoy this possibility of listening some great music from metallica again.
So because they're old we should accept any ol shit as great? Tell that to guys like Ian Hunter and Buddy Guy who actually write and create great music well into their '70s.
A perfect show. But the riffs after 3:35 and 4:25 are unbelievable and I think they become a classic. No other band can catch this harmony.
You need hear a bit more of heavy metal or thrash metal, the riff sounds SUPER GOOD, but isn't a masterpiece xD

Can't understand the negative comments about the vocals. I have been incredibly surprised and blown away by the quality of the vocals on these 3 tracks, especially the production of them. I want to say they are the best since the old school days but frankly, I like them even better than that. Perfect combination of evil Hetfieldy gnarl and awesome modern production. Very cool stuff.
I’ll more than happily bitch about the solos and drumming, but I never got the hate on the vocals. I think he sounds great. His voice has held up remarkably well compared to his contemporaries.
+Kimon Matara it's because hetfields voice isn't nearly as distorted as in the 80's and 70's
also, hetfields voice in the AJFA era was a lot lower than this new stuff. sounds better with his lower voice
The criticism lies in the fact that he always has the same vocal melody in spite of the backing music. the upper inflection of one sentence to the downward of the next
The only bad thing to say is that they are a little low in the mix.
I love that the "METLLICA" sheet music stand is still used by James after he commented on it in Some Kind of Monster! I first heard this song live in concert in Nashville Jan 2019 and I've loved it since.

Same. I thought it was boring as hell on the first listen, but now I really like it.
I've found myself humming it more often than I'd care to admit. 😂😂😂
Nash Knight 100% Nov 18 will be a great day for me.
That's exactly what happened with me. When I heard it about 2 weeks ago, I thought, "Eh, it's alright. It sounds like Death Magnetic. This is more of what I expected from them. It's not as good as Moth Into Flame." Now, I just can't get it out of my head. The pre-chorus and chorus fucking rule.
Now some honest feedback: This song is quite the surprise! it has some Death magnetic flavor but the riff constantly reminds me of Hallowed be thy name (Iron Maiden), the song is pretty standard, nothing too extraordinaire, but it's something you can listen to without getting tired of it.
Lyrically speaking, James is on top of his game again! :D imagine this song live, that's what this song is missing, the roaring metallica family on the background.
Remember that every album is composed of "Bridge songs" like Tool, remember the 4TH Song of the lateralus album? That one called "Mantra" that leads up to the fantastic "Schism" track? What if this Metallica Song is just preparing us for the next track of the album, "Now that we're dead" we had the frantic "Hardwired to self destruct" before "Atlas Rise" you see the pattern?
Start off heavy no boundaries!! then slow down a bit, then retaliate with a heavier shot!
This track is just the warm up of something bigger, heavier and fucking epic.
Just to clarify, i'm not comparing these bands, it was merely explanatory :)
it does have a kind of Iron Maiden sound in someparts
James still has it in terms of coming up with a really solid and killer riff. However, this song is meh. If Metallica wanted to really shake things up, they should bring in a lead singer and let James do back up vocals and rhythm guitar. I don't think this song sucks are anything like that...Just feels like I heard many times before in other albums Metallica has done only not as fresh or good.
"Bridge Songs"? AKA filler before a good song? lol
Cecil Drakan dude go back to your milk and go to bed... this song a warm up???? and your attemp to review this song is a HUGE failure just by not mentioning the solos ... the melodies on the harmonies are unreal.

This is not better it's worse. Anything after The Black Album sucks
Many other bands lose it and metallica is one of them. Did you heard anything before black album? Master of puppets, AJFA - that's their peak. After that they start to falling down deeper and deeper. Try Sodom or Exodus, they are REALLY saving their talant and playing better. The only thing metallica get better at is making money. Just commercial albums, again and again. In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned to hold up the sky for eternity after the Titanomachy. Atlas was the son of the Titan Lapetus and the Oceanid Asia.He had many children, mostly daughters, the Hesperides, the Hyades, the Pleiades, and the nymph Calypso who lived on the island Ogygia. According to the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, Atlas stood at the ends of the earth towards the west.

Better than I expected it to be.
What exactly happened after Load and Reload?
Jimmy Jones James went to rehab and the band almost (or did) break up. Watch "Some Kind of Monster" it shows a couple years after those albums.
James And that's why they can't compare now to their first five albums?
Make your question clearer if that's what you meant....
As for comparing to "the first five albums," why does it always have to be? All of you people who hold a new Metallica song up to what you consider their best prevents you from hearing it as it is. They're still killing it and bringin' some epic, heavy metal, and that's enough for me.
Seems like a grower. Don't care for the solo. I hope they stop releasing songs and just put the rest out on release day.
Damn, I gotta admit. I faded out of Metallica during the St. Anger days, but these guys have really brought back the heat.
I agree. St. Anger just didn't grab me. A few tracks on Death Magnetic are pretty good & I especially like Moth Into Flame from the forthcoming Album. Puppets, as an album, captured magic in a jar. The song itself is flawless. My Father thought he knew what a great guitarist was until we were on a long drive when and I popped in the song "Master Of Puppets". After the end of the elaborate bridge part where James goes back to sing the last verse, my Father goes "what...how? How do they have the energy to do that?" Puppets was fantastic. I believe Justice had some of the best guitar riffs I've ever heard, personally. I'm also a fan of the black album and I even like Load & Reload. Atlas, Rise seems to have an awkward main riff that I find odd. I like that they're going high & melodic for their choruses. I do sincerely wish Kirk would write his solos as opposed to "winging them". I've heard there's some health problems & that's expected. I want to hear Kirk play some slow, melodic solos.
Fuck yeah theyre back!!!!!
3:23 Rob just walks in and is like yeah this riff rocks

I was called a freak for carrying 'Ride The Lightning' under my arm through school back in 1986. I shed tears today hearing their new material. How wrong the idiots were in my year. This is the best music Metallica has written since 'Justice'. I'm so proud of all four of you; James. Rob, Lars and Kirk. You vindicated me and I owe you my life for making me carry on.
The album has leaked and I must saythey were extremely smart with the songs they chose to release to the public... the 3 that they've put out so far and the last song on the 2nd disc "Spit Out the Bone" are the only "metal" songs on the album... the rest are "bluesy-rock" (essentially Load). The album as a whole feels like some sort of In-Justice, Black Album, Load hybrid. Some fans might love it, but I was a bit thrown off by how many rock songs there were on it... especially with what they've released so far, : /. I was expecting a fast thrashy album...
Especially because they bash on Metallica by imitation. They dont have factual or personal reasons to do it. Like George Carlin said... Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Alan Mauricio It's cool how the rhyme pattern goes
a b a c d d d e
James has SUCH a heavy mind. I'm glad his pen is just as heavy! It's no good to have such thoughts if they can't be brought to paper the way he does. One of the best writers, period.
It was his lyrics that hooked me way back in '88.
who is he referring to a chick maybe and he is atlas
@ Y. Lee -- Nah, doubt it's about a chick, specifically. Probably left ambiguous so many people could fit their own problems into it.
But you should read a little about who Atlas is. Song may make a tad more sense to ya then.
You guys actually don't know who Atlas is? Well let me fill the greek mythology hole. During the war of the titans and the greek gods, a titan, named Atlas attempted to destroy Olympus, but he failed. Obviously. So after defeating all the titans, Zeus punished Atlas to hold up the skies for eternity. Thus: ''How does it feel on your own? Bound by the world all alone? Crushed under heavy Skies! Atlas, RISE!
Speed at 1.25... is exactly like that song should be
.
Give this song to them when their bodies were twenty years younger and you'd probably get it.

Not that one, the pace is actually good. But that x1.25 rule applies to almost all the album so far.
Up until now I've only ever heard this song as a cover song by The Warning.. Now i'm amazed at how well they did it as a 3 piece band. I think the only thing missing is the guitar harmonies.
I wonder what magic they made for us during this damn pandemic we need some kick ass music to help pull us threw this and get back to live shows I hate not being able to take my frustrations out at a love show
i can't wait anymore i want to listen to the whole album
adrian virgilio only two more weeks.

Was listening to harddrive and the guy said the last song on the album is in his top 5 favorite Metallica songs.

This album is shaping up nicely. After "Moth into the flame", this sounds great as well. A great step up from the previous two albums!

Myke FUCK outta here troll
Emperor's Fist You're right, they've sucked for a while but maybe they can unsink this ship!
They could bring out the worst album ever created by any band ever, and still be better than you James.

Aris Affandy I'm jealous of Metallica getting to hang out with that cat
Can we all have a moment of silence for that snare drum at the end who gave its all.
Metallica churning out banger after banger in HARDWIRED TO SELF DESTRUCT.🤘😎🤘
I like that that have found a way to renew, but still find the "old" sound that we all came to love :)
When that being said, ive been with them all the way, and even though some of what they made was better then other ive allways found every album good in their own way
There are three things certain in life:
- Death
- Taxes
- The comment section of a Metallica video will be absolute cancer. Read at your own risk.
Priceless! and unfortunately all too accurate..
Phil Michaels God Damned truth. Metal be with you brother.
I can't help to think you have a dissonance on your perceptions.

"As a fan I hate to say these new songs are average. They are missing something. Lack of drive. Or tiring creativity. I'm not sure. It's Slick in production, heavy and Overambitious to compensate for the lack of that missing element that makes Metallica a great band."

cancer enough?
Im just enjoying their music, dont care about what others think.
Phil Michaels taxes are not certain. taxation is a crime. this song is OK, but Megadeth and Testament recorded better stuff
This song represents the Atlas myth in such a good way. Just a masterpiece
It goes way deeper than that. Atlas is a representation, but the burdens of the “Atlas” in this song are self-imposed
Metallica forever and ever ☠️☠️☠️❤️
4:45 hallowed be thy name ???????
Thanos Retsas I think iron maiden is one of thier favorite bands, anyways I think it's cool they added that sound
Thanos Retsas qw34erfdds
They are influenced by NWOBHM bands like Maiden, Sabbath, Priest. So it stands to reason that some of their music is going to sound like that. They are also influenced by bands like Bad Brains and The Misfits. Hence, where their Punk sound comes from. Add those influences together with some blues and you get Thrash metal.
Yes, I get a Maiden vibe from parts of this. Nice.
Well, every mid-paced twin lead melody sounds like maiden or thin lizzy to be honest :P
2:31 that's where James takes his magic from. The sacred Mate
2:34 James drinks mate.......AWESOME!!!!!
This album is gonna slay ! METALLICA IS BACK \m/
#dixout

Harambe Metallica never left!
I`m crazy in love with this song. Completely addicted. LONG LIVE METALLICA!
Just finished watching Loki Season 2. It made me tear up seeing him become Atlas in his own right, bearing the burden of holding the multiverse together. It's very sad and lonely making sure that those infinite realities and the lives there don't collapse.
I love the "Old School" James vocals on this one!!!!!
2:29 Hetfield tomando mate !! un capo total !!
Andres Gorlo capo total y con 2l termo ahí
