Man this script is actually really good, doesn't seem like a cashgrab sequel. Instead a sequel that respects the characters, expand the universe, redeeming Randall and showing an interesting aspect of what monsters are to humans in the real world.
Theres 1 major flaw in the story. Instead of scaring the monster obsessed guy at the end, perhaps sully could reconcile with the human when he finds out that the guy was a kid they used to scare. It's there fault he's like this. Because who's to say he won't escape the arctic and become even more monter obsessed.
I get that take. But I will say, the Abominable Snowman actually has a line in the script about how he moved even higher up into the mountains, even farther away from humans. That detail obviously got lost when I did the summary. So the writers did think through Simon escaping!
Can you imagine that scene where Boo and Sulley reunite, when Sulley opens his arms thinking Boo is running in for a hug but suddenly she phases through him instead leaving Sulley confused like "Wh-what...??" "Why can't she see me? Why can't she hug me....?"
What's even better is that the plot still fits perfectly with the current ongoing Disney Plus series. This sequel could still be made with the events taking place after Monsters at Work.
I wish that was the case but I realised in Monsters At Work Episode 3 : The Damaged Room, the parents of the girl’s room who they are fixing is able to see Duncan, so now canonically, adults can also see monsters meaning the plot wouldn’t work 😭
My problem with this script is that it ends with yet another chase scene through the door warehouse with someone being held hostage. It feels like it's just repeating the same finale. I would rather a chase through the streets of Monstropolis as it would expand the monster world a little, maybe ending in Sully's apartment or even Harryhausen's.
Maybe the villain asks flankbottom were the cars are instead of the doors and he and Celia are in a career stole and the still use the canisters except they are chasing him through the city and Mike and ceila almost plummet because they are high in the sky and the villain crashes the car during the chase so he tries to escape to the human world and the heroes follow him.
Or maybe skip the hostage thing entirely and just chase the villain through the streets so he won't escape and maybe mike is the only person that needs saving from sully because he's very high up.
With all these known details, Lost in Scaradise sounds like it truly would’ve been such an awesome sequel! This script sounds like something Pixar would’ve come up with and it’s a shame they didn’t decide to adopt it and make it themselves.
Instead they made monsters University which actually feels like it was made by people who didn't watch the original, they even get little things wrong like Mike and sully meeting in college instead of before or during 3rd grade. (Not hard to fix just have sully in Mike's class at the start and make them hate each other very little changes)
@@ralcogaming7674 There we’re people who worked on the first movie who worked on MU. In the audio commentary on the Blu Ray, Dan Scanlon says that he’s a aware of the inconsistencies.
@@ralcogaming7674 Dan Scanlon said that had they met in the third grade at the start, they would have had to make it an entirely different movie, and college just seemed like a better setting for the story.
Randall returning and possibly having a redemption arc? oh man, I wish this sequel wasn't cancelled, this is everything I'd ever want for one. Also, the Plot of the Sequel sounds very good, it's too bad they scrapped it.
They could totally still make Lost in Scaradise, since Monsters University was a prequel, and Monsters at Work followed immediately after the original.
When they found the old lady, I thought this was going to turn into some Rip Van Wrinkle stuff where it was only a few months for them, but 65 years in the human world
@@MillyKKitty Maybe you're having a Freudian rememberance of the Pixar Theory where it claims Boo is actually the old witch from Brave. I personally find the theory silly and needlessly depressing, but check it out if you're interested. Won't be hard to find.
Lost in Scaradise is now officially one of the most unfortunate film loses from the early 2000s era of Disney, right up there with Fraidy Cat and A Few Good Ghosts (or My Peoples if you prefer to call it that.) But at least we got Monsters at Work coming very soon to ensure more great Monsters Inc. stories!
@@srstriker6420 We got the new HBO Max Looney Tunes series and the Hulu Animaniacs series. Space Jam: A New Legacy is coming out soon, and Coyote vs. Acme has been confirmed to be moving forward set for 2023.
I can already see the basics of why it wouldn't work from a plot perspective. Using a "wedding" as the ticking time bomb in the plot isn't very effective as Mike's wedding isn't the core of the emotional arc in the story. In the first movie, Mike and Sully's relationship with Boo in the movie is both the emotional core of the movie and the most important plot element in the story. Everything in the original movie revolves around Boo and how she is handled so there is a looming threat around every corner that she might be "discovered" and that Mike and Sully will be discovered as "traitors" to the company that they have worked so hard for. The original film has Sully abandoning his life, dreams, and even Mike to protect "the truth" and "innocent" based on a gut feeling he had that it was the right thing to do. This makes Sully an interesting character as he is the world's best scarer and yet he is the monster with the kindest heart. It's a nice character dichotomy that really adds an extra layer to the movie's already excellent emotional core. The main ticking time bomb in the movie (outside of being discovered/fired) is the fact that the villains are about to kidnap children and essentially "milk" children dry of their scream energy... probably until they die. The stakes are VERY high for both of the main characters, Boo, and for the future of children across the world. In Lost in Scaradise, neither Boo, Simon, Sully, Celia, Flankbottom, or the Wedding are the core of the movie. When hearing the plot breakdown, it was immediately obvious that there wasn't a strong consistent core to the film or an overarching point to the film. Why is Flankbottom important to the plot other than to be a pointless rival? While Mike and Sully being stuck in the human world is inconvenient, we know that it won't kill them and that many monsters have survived in the human world without issue, so there isn't a real ticking time bomb other than Mike's wedding being inconvenienced, which Celia would obviously forgive him upon discovering that he has been missing for several days along with THE CEO OF THE COMPANY. Again, that's inconvenient but that isn't a major threat. To add to that, I'm confused as to why Mike and Sully can't just wait in front of any door at night and wait for a scarer/comedian monster to show up. The first movie has the exact same plot point where they get stuck in the human world and apparently one can get back to the monster world within a couple of hours. The other issue is that (like all Pixar movies) the character has a "want" but doesn't know what they "need". As far as I'm aware, Sully just isn't a fan of being a CEO and he misses Boo, but at the end of the movie nothing is truly accomplished and all of the characters are back at square one with the exception of Mike and Sully leaving management. There isn't a logical rush to find Boo as she is not in any danger other than the fact that Sully feels lonely. Sully wants to find Boo and he finds Boo... did he grow as a character? Did Mike grow as a character? Simon, while mildly interesting, kind of goes against the idea that humans are seen as an "other" or an "entity" that monsters don't associate with and the audience isn't supposed to be interested in. The universe of Monster's Inc is based on a child's perception of reality and "child folklore". However, once you start getting into "humans kidnapping monsters" or "humans invading the monster world" it starts to be more of a science fiction based story with rules, mechanics, and lore (which were all elements the first movie was originally going to have but they smartly cut out due to the lore feeling unnecessary and complicated). The other issue is that Simon isn't really a physical or moral threat to anyone. Sully can obviously overpower any human and Simon has no real means of threatening monsters nor is his motivation directly in conflict with Sully's. In the first movie, Mr. Waternoose is morally at odds with Sully which is why he works as a villain. Sully has to get over the fact that the boss he has worked under for decades is heartless and will gladly kidnap innocent children. Sully has to mature as a character and stand up for what he believes is right, which is in opposition to everything he once believed in. Simon, on the other hand, doesn't challenge Sully physically or morally and at most he can make bold claims of "presenting monsters" to the human world, which obviously hasn't worked for him before so why would it work now? What does Simon do to make Mike or Sully grow as a character? As of now, it seems like nothing. Now, the idea of an adult human element could work, the issue is that humans are no longer viewed as "toxic" so there isn't a huge social stigma against an adult human discovering monsters. Monster's University smartly put the plot in the past so that adult humans could be see as a powerful "entity" or "force" that monsters are unable to control or tame. For humans the equivalent would be thousands of radioactive mutants roaming about. There is a reason humans are scary. However, for a sequel, that element no longer works. I definitely enjoyed hearing this script and knowing a bit about the premise; however, I think it has a LOT of obvious flaws in it as is. For a Monster's Inc sequel to work, there needs to be growth in the characters and the story needs to work towards producing that growth. An interesting idea might be that Sully is both a terrible comedian and a terrible manager so the world that he "saved" is one that he can't adapt to and he feels useless to society. Now, that's not very flesh out, but there are ideas you could play with such as "everyone who was a scarer getting fired due to being too scary" and Sully having to deal with that along with Mike getting married or possibly other huge consequences to the Sully's actions in the first movie. There's definitely a lot to work with, but a consistent issue across all possibilities for a sequel is that it is difficult to "overturn" the world twice. It would start to feel cheap for Sully to be a constant impetus for overturning society, especially given the fact that his character is never displayed as being overly intelligent. He has a big heart and he trusts his senses, but he is never "looking" for action.
@@bitterman7258 After thinking about it a little bit more, I think one way to make "Simon" more intimidating is if they made him a "monster counterpart" and the movie started off with a monster being kidnapped in the same way that Mr. Waternoose was planning on kidnapping children. It might be interesting to see Monsters get a taste of their own medicine and come to terms with the psychological damage they've placed on people. Maybe Simon literally has a monster outfit to sneak in amongst monsters just like Boo's outfit? The idea of a human threatening to kidnap monsters isn't as scary as a human actually kidnapping monsters, so possibly Celia or Mike are the ones who get kidnapped very early on in the movie, but it might be a little cliche for Mike to get captured again. But it would be pretty creepy for Mike to be on the scare floor all alone and a weird monster with a thousand yard stare walks up to him, grabs him, and then smuggles him into the human world. The alternative could start with a monster going into the human world, about to tell a joke to a kid, and then we discover the kid is a fake. The audience will assume this was a "test" in the facility, but then it turns out that it is in the human world and that the "monster hunter" is setting traps. So the intro would show a monster getting captured on the job. The only issue is I don't know how that would actually challenge the main characters since Sully and Mike have already changed as people. There needs to be something for them to get out of the interaction other than teaching Simon a lesson on "forgiveness".
In Pre-K or kindergarten (around 2007-2009), there was this girl in my class who had bragged to my mom about being cast as a voice in a new Monsters Inc. movie during orientation. According to my mom, her parents corroborated the story, though she doesn't really remember the details. Either her whole family came up with an entire fake backstory as to how she had a role in a sequel to an almost 10 year old movie, or there was another sequel that was in the works after this was thrown out that we know even less about.
Wow. I can’t believe this sequel was never made. This is literally one of the best plots I’ve heard in a long time. It perfectly flows well with the story of the first movie. Shame on Disney.
They should have made this sequel. I would have loved to see Randall's mini redemption since he's my favorite Pixar villain. Hoping they can bring ideas like this into the new monsters at work series. Plus I would love to see Randall smile again since he would've had the same chaotic energy mike has. All and all it's a shame that this movie was never made
I guess it makes more sense if they say that it's not that they can't see them, but rather than they just ignore them subconsciously. It also works with what the first movie said about kids getting harder and harder to scare, at this point people who grew out of the notion of monsters hiding in their closet are so hard to scare their brains barely even registers their existence, and those who do barely pay any attention to them, thinking they're a mascot or a weird animal that got loose.
@@danielsgarden9283 it still would matter, remember in the end of the first movie when Randall got stuck in the human world, a kid saw him, called him an alligator, and then his mother came with a broom to beat him out of the house
Of all the cancelled films I’ve heard you talk about on here, I think this is the only one that definitely would’ve been better that what we eventually got. Always hated we got a prequel given the originals ending. It being fairly mediocre wasn’t the issue. Similar feeling I got to when in Harry Potter 4 they just skip the Quidditch World Cup scene. Just an overwhelming “oh. Well that fucking sucks”
Im just glad we have Monsters at Work, its the closest we've got to an actual sequel to one of my favourite films also we all know adults can see Monsters if anyone remembers what happened in Monsters University
Well they probably bent the rules after cancelling those sequel, and it actually makes more sense for adults to be able to see monsters seeing as the first movie showed them being afraid of being caught
It also makes sense that adults can see monsters because in the first film you can hear screaming and off screen interactions between them and humans if I remember correctly. Also when Randal was banished he was beat up because he got confused with a alligator so it's not like those people thought it was a monster.
Disney then changed the characters and made Ralph breaks the internet I love the idea of Sully and Mike being trapped in our world (causes me anxiety just be thinking of it) but everything else feels to Disney sequel level and not Pixar to me
That is so true because unlike Disney. Pixar has a better reputation for it's sequels. And a monsters inc sequel was what everyone was asking for. hoping that monsters at work can make people come to the realization that this sequel could exist.
@@Samurai-es5wh it does seem like at least some of the ideas from this cancelled sequel are being reused in the series. Sully being promoted to CEO for example.
@@Samurai-es5wh Cars 2 is a thing. They don't have the same care with their sequels like dreamworks in my opinion. Incredibles 2, finding Dory and university are kind of mediocre. Toy story 2, 3 and 4 are a great exception
@@Joviaero I haven't seen it personally as I don't have Disney +, I've only seen a few clips here and there but if true that's a shame. Admittedly from the clips I saw there did seem to be something off about it, I couldn't tell if it was the new characters, Mike and Sully basically being reduced to side characters or the fact it wasn't Pixar animating it.
Monsters Inc is such a banger childhood movie of mine and all of the Pixar classics have a special place in my heart, I'm sad we never got this. I really liked University but this was needed more.
Although I don’t think Disney would be able to pull off a good Pixar sequel without Pixar, I do really think this was an excellent script that I would love to see in its full form!
That's an interesting and popular opinion, but you really should listen to the Jim Hill Media podcast I did that explains why the talent at Circle 7 Animation was from head-to-toe as strong as any in the industry. As an example, our Head of Story on TS3, Robert Lence, was Story Supervisor on Pixar's "Toy Story" (and" Bugs Life"). I'll toss in that he also wrote the story for Beauty and the Beast. Circle 7 was populated with talented people who wanted to relocate back to SO-CAL from up north. Roy Conli our TS3 producer won many awards (Oscar nominations) for among other films, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, just a few years after we were shut down. Anyway, I think in the years following the Pixar buyout, we saw with our own eyes what Disney was capable of. That takes NOTHING away from Pixar.
Technically, they would have to tweak this plot a bit if they wanted to reuse it, because Monsters University showed that a door can be opened from inside using the screams of adults. That also means that adults are able to see monsters, whether or not they believe in them.
You know, you'd think Disney and Pixar would use a lot of these scrapped ideas for old Pixar Sequels for a Disney+ Exclusive film. If I was an executive, that'd be the first thing I do.
I was in the same boat as you, and I figured that I couldn't be the only one who needed to know about it. Doing this is by far one of the coolest things I'll ever do, so I'm glad that I can help!
Allegedly, a 'Monsters 3' is tentatively in the works (not 'Monsters At Work'), so this plot could still be possible. Though, the "adults can't see the monsters because they don't believe in them anymore" concept has obviously been scrapped (adults DEFINITELY see Sully at the end of MU, and the MIFTers have to hide from adults in one episode), but Pete Docter, the director of the first two films has said that they have ideas for a third, set a couple decades later, with an adult 'Boo' (her voice actress, Mary Gibbs, is now 24). So... maybe.
This is a freaking fantastic story and actually sounds more suitable to a theatrical release instead of a direct to video release and I’m so angry that we didn’t get this because of it was being made by Circle 7 Animation which when Disney bought Pixar it was dead in the water.
The movie was actually set to release theatrically in 2009! In talking to both of this films' writers (who also did work on Circle 7's Toy Story 3), they have both clarified to me that these movies were to be taken theatrical. I'm not sure where the whole direct-to-video thing came from.
@@HemmasStudios_ Wow I did not know that the Circle 7 films would be theatrical no wonder they put that much effort into the story, Thanks for the information man. 😀
@@HemmasStudios_ Because people saw Circle 7 as the Pixar equivalent of Disney Toon Studios. They presumed that with all the sequels to classic films, the trend of direct to DVD back in the 2000s, that Circle 7 would fit that criteria. Theatrical films honestly makes more sense for this studio, as Pixar's movies were box office smashes. Disney did appear they wanted to capitalize on not just Pixar's box office potential, but their writing style.
A Monsters Inc sequel I would actually rewatch often. And adding to the mythology of monsters by having children grow out of seeing them. I wish they could have at least pulled ideas from this script for the University movie. Leaving out Boo was a mistake.
okay hear me out the monsters inc sequel that I've always wanted to see is the continuation from the original ending where everything is now powered by laughter. this is definitely some time when monsters are using comedy to replace scaring. now the cool part, some of the former scarers chose to not cope to this change so they found a way to infiltrate the company or had some inside people to use the doors to illegally scare. this would feel like fight club except its for scaring (just saw the 4th episode of monsters at work and one of the janitors mentioned fright club, so that's interesting). only then, mike found out when he heard some of the current employees talking about it while dropping the details of when the next meeting would be. so mike rushed to tell sully about it and planned to sneak after hours to see if its true. on the night of the club meeting, they were up on the spot like how we saw them in the prequel, they definitely found some scarers cheering around a spot lit door and coming out of it is randall (this part the writers can find a way to explain how he's back , I'm not creative enough). now they will try to figure out how to get these guys and plan things out. for a second, sully was tempted to try scaring again. he felt some excitement in him and mike noticed. he snaps sully out of it and went back home. from this point, the writers can definitely make sully slowly stray from their vision of using laughs to generate cleaner and stronger energy. make sully blowing off some steam at first, make them fight, really having a go at the psychology of "you can't change the inside of me, this is who I am" for sully (but that would be him oposing to what changed him after boo, so I don't know) but would be so cool to see if the animators can make it work
I really could imagine most of those scenarios playing out in a monster inc sequel. Props to Circle 7 for staying true to what was set up before they were brought on and incorporating new ideas. I do feel like it kinda dragged out towards the end though but I’m sure in actual cinematic form it’d be more condensed. Thanks for this cool tidbit of history.
What an amazing story, what a shame this could never be fully realized, I am personally a huge fan of monsters inc. and I would be incredibly content with a script like this.
Even though this wasn't produced, I wish it was produced. This is, hands down in my opinion, one of the best scripts to have ever came out of Circle 7 Animation I've heard! Feels more authentic than the prequel that PIXAR gave us, really.
I would love to see this happen still especially after the new "Monsters at Work". But you just read the script and I can't imagine Pixar or Disney being ok with a released script while still planning on making the film. This script just sounded fantastic and it could still be a progression seeing as there hasn't been any mention that Mike and Celia are married in the show.
Actually, it's common for scripts to be exposed and available before going into production. When studios buy screenplays in bidding wars they're distributed all over town. Then once they go into production the lid closes tighter and tighter. In this case the script was literally our first and only draft. Typically, scripts go through dozens of rewrites before and during production...this is particularly true in animation. That said, there was so much bad blood during the buyout that it has precluded anyone at Pixar to seriously consider this project...ever. The company line is, "We never have and never will read anything that came out if Disney's Circle 7." We had to come to grips with that many years ago starting with our Toy Story 3 draft. All part of the history, which can be as fluid as ones imagination...so, you never know. I have a feeling Men at Work will be a very well done show. Bob's Gannaway is a great guy and quite talented. Cheers!
Man, this sounds like a better sequel to the Monsters Inc movie than the sequel we all got (Monsters University), the main human villain, Randall redeeming himself, and there being the banished monster paradise. I would have loved this movie, although Monsters University is an ok movie. If there was a different universe where this version of the film was made and highly praised by their people in that world, I would have bought a DVD or Blu-ray of that movie from their world and kept it in our world for my family to enjoy, possibly posting it online on our UA-cam in our universe. Such a nice concept. ;)
I especially like the idea that Randall has his own comics. It fits so well: of course will they make comics if I real monster is found. It is so clever. R.I.P Monsters in scaradise
Lost in Scaradise not being made is something I have always been made about. Monsters Inc. has always been one of my favorite Pixar Films and it’s sequel developed on the ideas of the original and more. Really makes me wish the Circle 7 was never shut down or Pixar had continued on with the plans for movies already set in motion. Hopefully Monsters at Work, which is a sequel series debuting on Disney Plus does well enough and maybe can lead to Lost In Scaradise finally being made.
Oh man... I literally teared up listening to this. I would've definitely enjoyed this sequel. This would've been way better then what they actually made which was Monster's University.
ehhh Monster’s University was really good tho. Just saying that AND this sequel would have put the Monster’s Inc franchise on the same level as you story
I thought University was good but it was just a prequel nobody asked for and we needed this sequel instead, this is the only one of Circle 7's sequels they planned that didn't come to fruition under Pixar
Why is it always that good sequels to movies are canceled? The plot sounds awesome. Sad this never got as far to a theater release, this could have made a good opportunity for Boo’s return and Randall’s redemption arc.
Wow… that was actually AMAZING!!! The team behind this really had potential! Alas, it’s a bigger shame that Circle 7 closed down before it could release any films. This could’ve been their magnum opus. “Nothing is worse than wasted potential” Mr. Enter. 2014
Thanks for the kind words. I couldn't have said it better myself. It was certainly not easy having to leave that one behind. Then to live with the "Pixaren't" insults and no way to defend ourselves by showing what was actually happening inside that studio was tough...especially right after we were shut down and sworn to secrecy. The last good thing I remember being said was by Iger and Dick Cook who we were actually working pretty closely with. Dick Cook was quoted as saying our Monsters, Inc. "Lost In Scaradise" script was the best animated script he'd ever read. I also recently found our Toy Story 3 script from November 2005 (a rewrite of the Jim Hertzfeld draft) and it was shaping up to be pretty damn good as well. Anyway, I appreciate your well thought out comments.
@@Bobbydawriter well I’m glad that they loved it. I hope that the script is preserved somewhere in Disney’s vaults. By the way, thank you for the reply. I feel very honored to see someone who worked for the wonderful Disney company.
I remember watching Monsters Inc. all the time when I was a kid! I watched it like three times a day and hearing the plot honestly brought tears to me eyes. Thank you for making this video!
You know what? I'm 31 and I was 11 when the first movie came out. I remember crying at the teather and every other time I watched this movie. Last time I did I was with my girlfirend, probably during christmas or easter end yeah, we both cried a lot. I don't know why, there has to be something that hits me deeply about the relationship between Sullivan and Boo. Now i'm listening to the plot of this cancelled sequel and i'm crying again. It's been 20 years, TWENTY YEARS and i'm still crying over everything this movie and it's sequel supposed to have. Thanks for sharing this with us, I felt like watching a movie that never was, listening to your voice while trying to imagine every single scene. I'm truly happy I stayed awake at night only to find your video. Thanks!
Interesting that Pixar is letting another company make "Monsters at Work" after not being so opposed to others continuing their stories (which I agree with for the most part), not even bothering to look at this.
This is an amazing script that hits on lot of character development! I so wish this movie was made because it sounds visually pleasing as well! That scene of Sully on the beach looking at the sun set on the horizon just is cool.
This would have been so much better than Monster's University. Such good and interesting concepts, it really shoes how much care they put into this script taking in account everything from the first film, instead of making a movie with these characters just because.
The part where the kids scream and scare both of them (slumber party part in the script) and the cops come for Mike and Sully is actually reworked for the ending of Monsters University which means they used it for the prequel instead, that’s pretty cool
I agree. Especially in Monsters at Work, I feel like the laugh canisters shoot off like missiles almost every episode. I don’t remember that being a thing in either of the movies.
@@HemmasStudios_: That happened twice I believe in MU. One in the beginning where Sully accidently knocks down the dean's prized canister off the pedastal, and the end where Sully and Mike attempted to scare adults in the log cabin to power the door from the outside, which resulted in all the canisters in the monster world being overfilled with screams causing them to shoot around all over the place.
1:15 imagine a Bugs Life sequel where an anteater attacks Flik's colony and it plays off as a spoof of a kaiju movie, leading to Flik trying to create puppet birds and eventually a twig-mecha to help fight it off
I know this is an unpopular opinion to have here, but I am actually very grateful and relieved this sequel was not made, and I think it’s short sided to just wish this one had been made against Pete Doctor’s wishes. The most powerful storyline for any sequel with Boo again would be her as a teenager trying to rediscover Mike and Sulley from her nearly forgotten memories - this is what Pete Doctor has mentioned as the only plot he’d ever consider, which would require much time to pass from the first 2001 movie’s release for this reveal to land. If this Lost in Scaradise sequel had been made, and so closely after the first move was released, it would have cheapened the impact Pete Doctor’s vision would deliver. Waiting for the best storyline from the creator’s wishes is worth it.
What an absolute shame this wasn't produced, the plot is very respectful to the original Monsters Inc and sounds like it'd have been extremely natural to go from Monsters Inc to Lost in Scaradise.
Fitting since later this year this show turns 20. And lucky you that you got to interview someone who once worked for Disney. Though the part of the Jersey Devil making a cameo in this film feels odd because if you know the legend and cryptozoology, he technically would've came from the human world first since when born he was at first a normal baby, but then transformed into that monster all because his Mother Leeds cursed out to God from the pain of the 13th pregnancy. Also it's interesting how a bit of the plotlines did get reused for the Disney + TV series, and the dog part was based n the teaser trailer of the original film.
Yes! I thought of that first teaser immediately when I read that plot point with the dog! As for your point about the Jersey Devil, it's funny you bring that up. I actually didn't know that about the Jersey Devil until this past week. (As somebody who's lived across NJ my entire life, I'm a disgrace to the culture! :P )
For a sequel that doesn't involve the original creators in any way, this manages to be extremely faithful to the source, and really does fit true sequel material, had it gone through.
they could just release this as Monsters Inc 3. luckily the second film was just a jump in the past. tho some things may need to be done to get this ball rolling again, i could see it.
@@brandonkyle5595 and what's more, What if the CDA discovered boo's 🚪and this time rather than using a door shredder to turn it into splinters, what if they use a Door grinder to turn it into dust? And what if Mike and Sulley were terminated and became fugitives

Man Eisner was running Disney into the ground and Iger was like 1,000% better. People expected him just to be a clone of Eisner because he correctly read how egotistical Eisner was and knew he'd get nowhere going against him while Eisner was number one, but he set himself apart his first year by making major decisions Eisner would have hated (and did). @@HemmasStudios_ Yeah, as a story full of intrigue and backstabbing drama: for sure! And though Katzenberg gave himself too much credit, one can't deny that his time in charge of animation and the "Disney Renaissance" overlapped 100%, and things quickly devolved when he was booted. Eisner seemed almost to hate Pixar, and they became ascendent just as Disney Animation started to decline. Hell, even if the only good thing Katzenberg ever did (and I don't think he did only one good thing) was hire Howard Ashman, he would still be responsible for a lot of greatness. It's so sad that Howard died at such a young age. He had so much left to give.

Man this script is actually really good, doesn't seem like a cashgrab sequel. Instead a sequel that respects the characters, expand the universe, redeeming Randall and showing an interesting aspect of what monsters are to humans in the real world.
When I first read the story I was FLOORED by how much I enjoyed it!
@Sebastian Felipe Rivera Huerta The release date was 2009. Circle 7 opened in 2005, there's no way they could have made a movie like this in 1 year.
I wish this movie was made.
@Sebastian Felipe Rivera Huerta I don't think it can. A lot of it has been retconned by Monsters At Work.
unlike monsters university
Theres 1 major flaw in the story. Instead of scaring the monster obsessed guy at the end, perhaps sully could reconcile with the human when he finds out that the guy was a kid they used to scare. It's there fault he's like this. Because who's to say he won't escape the arctic and become even more monter obsessed.
I get that take. But I will say, the Abominable Snowman actually has a line in the script about how he moved even higher up into the mountains, even farther away from humans. That detail obviously got lost when I did the summary. So the writers did think through Simon escaping!
You're right, I like that.

@@HemmasStudios_ Hi, how are you? I would like to know if you can pass me the script of the movie. I would like to see it.

He has a big heart and he trusts his senses, but he is never "looking" for action.
dude wrote a whole essay

Mike: “I can’t believe it I’M IN A THUMBNAIL!”
When I was younger I thought there’s no way they don’t make a sequel to this, man what a missed opportunity
I've wanted to know the story of Lost in Scaradise for literal years, thank you so much for closing the case!
So... maybe.
Oh my god, do not get my hopes up
This is a freaking fantastic story and actually sounds more suitable to a theatrical release instead of a direct to video release and I’m so angry that we didn’t get this because of it was being made by Circle 7 Animation which when Disney bought Pixar it was dead in the water.
Leaving out Boo was a mistake.
okay hear me out
the monsters inc sequel that I've always wanted to see is the continuation from the original ending where everything is now powered by laughter. this is definitely some time when monsters are using comedy to replace scaring.
now the cool part, some of the former scarers chose to not cope to this change so they found a way to infiltrate the company or had some inside people to use the doors to illegally scare. this would feel like fight club except its for scaring (just saw the 4th episode of monsters at work and one of the janitors mentioned fright club, so that's interesting). only then, mike found out when he heard some of the current employees talking about it while dropping the details of when the next meeting would be. so mike rushed to tell sully about it and planned to sneak after hours to see if its true.
on the night of the club meeting, they were up on the spot like how we saw them in the prequel, they definitely found some scarers cheering around a spot lit door and coming out of it is randall (this part the writers can find a way to explain how he's back , I'm not creative enough). now they will try to figure out how to get these guys and plan things out. for a second, sully was tempted to try scaring again. he felt some excitement in him and mike noticed. he snaps sully out of it and went back home.
from this point, the writers can definitely make sully slowly stray from their vision of using laughs to generate cleaner and stronger energy. make sully blowing off some steam at first, make them fight, really having a go at the psychology of "you can't change the inside of me, this is who I am" for sully (but that would be him oposing to what changed him after boo, so I don't know) but would be so cool to see if the animators can make it work
I’m really happy to drop back over here and find so many views! Congratulations!!
It's all on the strength of yours and Rob's *incredible* script! Always nice to hear from you, Bob! I hope you're doing well!

Monsters university is a prequel, while monsters at work is a sequel show to monsters inc

Such a nice concept. ;)
This is one crazy idea for a sequel maybe after monsters at work we might get it
I especially like the idea that Randall has his own comics. It fits so well: of course will they make comics if I real monster is found. It is so clever. R.I.P Monsters in scaradise
Oh what a shame this was never made. This would have been such a great film. I still hope Pixar makes a Monsters Inc sequel someday.
I really hope that Simon Nerlich becomes a villain in monsters at work some time soon.
@ Pixar needs to actually make this into a movie. This really does have potential
Seemed like such a strong conclusion to the series as well. Now that the prequel is done, they could still probably do this.
20:53 Why did my heart just start crying? Damn Pixar got in my eyes.
This sounds not just superior to Monsters University, but also better than the original.
Fully agree could have been Monsters Inc's version of toy story 2 where its a very rare perfect sequel
Perfect sequels are so not rare.
@@jeffreygao3956 Examples?
@@thoughtfuldevil6069 Shrek 2, The Dark Knight, Toy Story 2.
Nah monsters university was great
The thing about monsters emitting energy makes no sense, but everything else I could actually go with.
this could honestly just get fixed by having a monster fly or swim them around
“Nothing is worse than wasted potential”
Mr. Enter.
We are kinda seeing stuff like this already in the new monsters show on Disney plus. It’s interesting so far, and I’m excited to see where it goes
I couldn't agree more. I'm shocked by how much I like it!
I remember watching Monsters Inc. all the time when I was a kid!
I watched it like three times a day and hearing the plot honestly brought tears to me eyes.
Thank you for making this video!
I was happy to do it! Glad you enjoyed!
Same, I love Monsters Inc and it was my childhood movie
we still got monsters at work, maybe boo and mikes friends from MU will be in there so theres still hope!!
Thanks!
I’m glad you enjoyed!
Mike: I can’t believe it…
I was on the thumbnail!
This would have been so much better than Monster's University. Such good and interesting concepts, it really shoes how much care they put into this script taking in account everything from the first film, instead of making a movie with these characters just because.
I need this to be made I hate bittersweet endings and have a extreme soft spot for kids and want them to meet boo again
I had such a joy in imagining the plot in hd, I really wish it did go through in production.
This script is flawless. So sad it never happened, would've been an instant classic.
I totally agree. It would have been so, so, so good!
@@HemmasStudios_ never say never, but yah not right now but soon
It isn’t too late for this to be produced! It took so long for Finding Dory to be released, so maybe Lost in Scaradise can be too!
Yeah
The part where the kids scream and scare both of them (slumber party part in the script) and the cops come for Mike and Sully is actually reworked for the ending of Monsters University which means they used it for the prequel instead, that’s pretty cool
dude, that was such a good script I got lost in the story and plot while you were describing it. so unfortunate.
I feel like Pixar took some notes and use some ideas from this Added to Monsters university. Even little to monsters at work.
1:15 imagine a Bugs Life sequel where an anteater attacks Flik's colony and it plays off as a spoof of a kaiju movie, leading to Flik trying to create puppet birds and eventually a twig-mecha to help fight it off
Seriously, why couldn’t this been the official sequel to Monsters Inc.? The story is incredible.
It’s really, really, great.
@@HemmasStudios_ i agreed
Surprised we got a prequel instead
@@HemmasStudios_ you ever read laugh factory?
@@DamnZtar never read it, but is it even canon?
Awesome inside look at what could have been a great film! The passion and work that went into this Canned Goods really speaks for itself!
Thank you so much!
@@HemmasStudios_ That's alright, at least you know now.
For a sequel that doesn't involve the original creators in any way, this manages to be extremely faithful to the source, and really does fit true sequel material, had it gone through.
I hope this does come out some day. It’s one of the best movie I ever heard of!
After watching the season 2 finale of Monsters at work, it's sad to say that this film will never come to the light 😭
I finished the finale last night and had the same exact thought :(
@@HemmasStudios_ after the success of inside out 2 Pixar is now making monsters Inc.2 Incredibles three and finding Nemo three
Dude I teared up TWICE just from you explaining the story. This would've been amazing.
Just had this video pop up in my feed and I'm so upset that this movie never happened 😭
they could just release this as Monsters Inc 3. luckily the second film was just a jump in the past. tho some things may need to be done to get this ball rolling again, i could see it.
i actually wanna see pixar decide to finally do this
If there was gonna be a sequel I would name it MONSTER HEADQUARTERS
That’s could work
@@brandonkyle5595 and what's more,
What if the CDA discovered boo's 🚪and this time rather than using a door shredder to turn it into splinters, what if they use a Door grinder to turn it into dust?
And what if Mike and Sulley were terminated and became fugitives
@@orangeasphalt741 Considering the events of Lost in Scaradise, if there was a Monsters Inc. trilogy, then Monster Headquarters would be the 3rd and final movie in that trilogy.
@@HostWithTheMost Ah VERY good point 👍
Monsters Inc. And Monsters HQ. Sounds nice together
Felt like I actually watched this sequel with that whole rundown ❤️ great job
Thank you so much!
They can still make this film and in this era of remakes and reboots a new Monster’s film isn’t even that unbelievable
I respect few executives, but Iger I really respect.
As much as Iger was objectively better as a CEO, personally, in retrospect, Eisner’s time at Disney I find to be much more fascinating.
This would've been a whole lot better than the prequel that we ended up getting
Love the added detail in the thumbnail of mike getting his head getting placed behind something!
Thanks! I had to! It was too good of an idea not to do it!
