You must listen to the 1970 Royal Albert Hall performance, 20 minutes of pure heaven! In my opinion it’s the finest performance caught on video. I’ve seen Led Zeppelin multiple times on every US tour between 1970 and 1977
Love this song. Everyone is in their element here. Now that’s how you finish up an album!! Definitely check this out live from Denmark radio. Crazy good!
You really get to appreciate drummer John Bonham's sheer creativity on this one with all those excellent fills--all different, yet satisfying, and then that FUNKY rhythm he lays down for when Robert's singing about "Oh, Rosie!" --MAN! My brother is a great drummer, and in high school I'd bug him to play that bit, lol! Obviously, the other three band members--especially Jimmy--shine on this, as they ALWAYS do! Kinda cool to do lives fresh after the studios, I think I dig that approach! Good reaction!
As you read from Jimmy, this song is a bit of conglomeration of several influences, such as music he developed when he was in The Yardbirds as well as Howlin' Wolf's "How Many More Years", "The Hunter" from Booker T & The MGs and other bits that Robert could add from time spent in a band called Band of Joy before he joined Zep. When performed in concert, they'd improv bits from "Boogie Chllun", Neil Young, and whatever else struck their fancy on any given night. Their music is a journey second to none. Edited to add: Tektoniks Architects is 100% correct. If you're going to do live from the first album, there's an excellent, approximately half hour performance from Danmark Radio. The video is easy to find on YT. Please do that before trying other live performances because you get to see them in all their youthful, raw glory. In general, the live performances that are available are in order: Danmark Radio from 1969, Royal Albert Hall (or RAH) in 1970, their concert movie "The Song Remains The Same" from MSG (it was recorded in 1973 but not released until 1976), Earls Court in 1975, and Knebworth from 1979. I give honorable mention to their Seattle concert in 1977 due to the video quality not being very good.
Page, Jeff Beck and Clapton all pretty much got their start with the Yardbirds, Amazing Band. Commercial songs Including "For Your Love", "Heart Full of Soul", "Shapes of Things Then their live versions are so raw. Jimmy brought his material to his new band Led Zeppelin. Saw Jimmy live playing with the bow , like who does that? 1975 or so. Amazing
It is. Stripped down and raw. 20 year olds Plant and Bonham, killing it. Jones the silent assassin. Page casting his spells with his bow. They were iconic from day 1.
Add another vote for the Danmarks Radio version, it is so good... You get to see Jimmy use the bow, his interaction with bonham is great to see, they were already at their best. Keep up the good work!
Duh, that's capitol B - Bonham. Speaking of great drummers and bands, please check out something from Cream with Ginger Baker, got to know what you will say. Maybe even Masters Of Reality, they were good enough to land Baker for the second lp!
Jimmy Page the riff master!! To me one of Jimmy's best riffs! This riff is so nasty I love it! Love Jimmy's bow action on this song! Gives this song a eerie vibe!
One of my favorite Zep songs, so dark and menacing, the perfect closer to their darkest and most menacing album. That opening bass line by JPJ, and how Page picks it up and turns it into one of the heaviest riffs in their catalogue is just phenomenal. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a coherent story, maybe just an amalgam of various blues narratives as others have suggested, but here's how I interpret it. The schoolgirl is his daughter, one of his eleven children, and one of the only points of light in the narrator's dark and harrowing existence marked by his sexual obsession for yet another bad woman (there are a lot of them on these early Zep albums, aren't there?). The final part might be a sexual metaphor, or it might be that the narrator is actually going to shoot the object of his desire for "loving another man too." Pretty grim stuff, but it matches the sometimes nightmarish nature of the music.
You have to remember although jpj and page had worked together on studio tracks and plant and bonham had been in the same band together this was the first time they all worked together
@Not An industry Artist NY is a big state lol I'm in Maywood. Right next to Paramus and Hackensack. 10 mins from the GW bridge. 58 and a life long Zep fan. I have a bootleg of their BBC from June 27, 69 that you JUST HAVE TO HEAR! Lemme know how to get it to you 😉😉😉😉😉😉
To me, this is just Led Zep effortlessly screwing around. BTW, modern audiences might misunderstand the reference to "little schoolgirl." It's just the use of a diminutive to indicate attractiveness, as we also see in the use of "little," "baby," "girl," and "child." Likewise, women may refer to a studly guy as "cute" or as a "boy."
@@Brandi6666 just Robert? Not most all rockers from that era? Teen groupies were like ants at a picnic. It's just the massively popular bands that got all the "teen" headlines. Just ask Lori Maddox.

MASTERMINDS OF MUSIC 😁🤯🎸🔥😍🐐🤪
don't rush your journey! Savor it and remember we had to wait for the next album back in the day!
How long was it usually between albums for bands?
Two incredible classic rock riffs combined into one song. It's just so compelling.
It felt like a serious journey!
8 min not even there longest. But what a fun song. Love this one
your spot on . always a journey through a zep song considering their ages
💯💯🤜🤛
