Which would you recommend more between the S1000XR and F850GS Adv as i am torn in between these two models and not sure which to get as I plan on doing touring and maybe a little bit of offroad only one in a awhile
@@dumplingz7 i think that it's not the same category buddy. The right question should be F900XR or F850 GS...and to my opinion the answer should be given by yourself. F900 is a more practicall everyday commuter which is perfect for city usage as well for trips, touring but don't love the dirt so much as the F850 which is more "off-road", oriented. So, both bikes are fine but the right one for you is the one that will cover better your needs. What exactly you want to do with the bike?
These roads look incredible! I have a 2016 XR and love it. Absolutely zero complaints other than the handle bar vibration, but it goes away above 90mph😅
Awesome bike... But the video you guys made is amazing.... Awesome... Beautiful cinematic shots.... The music, editing.. Everything is wonderful... Well done guys... 👍👍 Keep it up... 👌
I liked the review. I own 2018 XR HP modified, with Akrapovich slip on. TBH, I like my 2018 much more than 2020 XR. It's more sporty, more aggressive and the sound of the exhaust is much much better. I don't see any improvement in the 2020 model actually quite the opposite :)
Great review, as always, and LOVED that road! Trans-what? Need to put it on my bucket list. After years owning S1000RRs, and using them for club racing, track days and (very) irresponsible/illegal street/mountain riding, I decided it was time to grow up and go back to a sensible bike. So, having owned GS bikes before, and rented many while traveling, I bought a 2019 R1250GS. Great bike... but. After many S1000RR years, the excitement is just not there. So, now that the XR is coming out in Motorsport colors... I think I'll trade the GS in. Sure, I'll lose the "off-road" ability, but ok. I've taken the big cow through some enduro trails during the past year, and of course she's quite capable, but it's just suffering. If I want to go dirt biking I'll buy a 450/500 dual sports. In the meantime, will wait for the XR to come out in the colors I love, and go back to lubing chains, I guess. Seems like it's a grownup RR.
It's definitely a sporty tourer. But it doesn't Look like a sport-touring mc, as it has that upright adventure style seating position. Same as the Tracer 900. It's called a Sport-tourer, but i can't say i quite agree with that. They're more a Sport-Adventurer really. Nice video though.
The seating position is much sportier than the Tracer or even the old Xr, you have to try it to feel it. You are more active and feel the front wheel much better.
@@shoei07 no, nice for your reply, I did get the Ktm 1290 Super adventure S... Iam still more of adventure rider, and the price was also 4 to 5 tousand euros lower.
Wonderful video and awesome bike.. the first one I see with HP forged wheels and carbon parts, instead of Akrapovic exhaust and other "boring usual" stuff... I've ordered the s1000xr, the same optionals as yours, one month ago, and will arrive at the end of August... I can't stand it anymore!!! So excited!
BMW likes to position themselves as premium/luxury brand. BMW is also huge on safety. Today in a world of tech and cell phone distracted automobile drivers, BMW misses opportunities to improve safety. For starters this bike needs an electric windscreen, so you don’t have to stop, get off the bike and adjust. A horn that sounds like a horn. Take the same horns used on the K1600 series bikes (120 decibel horns). Lastly, illuminated handlebar switches for night riding. Even the Triumph Tiger 1200 ADV bikes have this stuff. Come on BMW! Otherwise a great looking and handling bike. That they seem to understand. I prefer the looks of the BMW. Great review. Ride safe and ride often. Peace.
First of all, thank you very much for making our life happy with yours reviews. Could you proceed with review for 2020 Kawasaki Ninja Z 1000 SX, please. Thanks in advance.
Wieder eine Super-Vorstellung! Ich habe auch ein XR, nur beherrsche ich sie nicht so genial. Another super-performance. I also have a XR, but I don't have such a great command of it.
Disappointed to see that BMW hasn’t gone to a hydraulic clutch yet on the XR. When I was deciding between the R1200 GS and the XR, that was the deciding factor. The clutch on the XR was very stiff and would be very painful to operate in stop and go traffic(arthritis in left hand).
Unfortunately I ride in a lot of stop and go traffic which requires using the clutch quite a bit, and if it weren’t for my clutch hand, it wouldn’t be an issue. Having a hydraulic clutch on the XR would most of likely made me choose the XR over the GS.
As the owner of a 2020 BMW 1250rs, in my opinion the rs has way better road manners for the long haul. I literally can ride it all day no problem. Try both back to back and see what I mean.
Hi guys. Good review. I rode the Ducati 1260s (twin) back to back with the s1000xr (in line4). I did not like the seat or the plastic feel of the BMW. I think the Ducati is better finished. I have only ever ridden BMW, with the exception of this year - Tuono. Keep up the excellent reviews. Well done. J
Great and honest review as usual. I had the same delema..Should i go got the new XR or for the 1250 GSA? Finally i bought the 1250 GSA. I am very happy with my purchase, however sometimes i still have to ask myself if that was the right choice. So far considering the i am using the bike for bigger tours i think i did good but if i could afford a second big bike i should def go for it.
Great video .. amazing machine ... I want to try ASAP .. definitely could be my second bike hahaha... BTW question : Which boots are you wearing looks very confortables a also very nice !!
So 2021 has Metzler tires I noticed Bridgestone on the bike you have. Also, BMW has not been very interesting with muffler designs and after a brief departure from Akropovic they once again include it. I believe there is a fan on the left side of the bike which can be a bit much on a summer day in the city.

Ride is probably plusher on this with the update, when you want it, but the old one does not have touring oriented suspension, and the ESA can not compensate. Also the rear is under-damped, first thing that you notice in Road. I understand that this is quite similar in this regard, but haven't had the chance to test it. Also you mentioned the 1260 Multistrada. That bike has better "real world" electronic suspension than the Gen I XR, probably better than this as well. Suspension-wise, only place I would take the XR instead of the current Multistrada is on a track day and maybe on freshly paved roads :)
Stick a Yamaha or a Kawasaki badge on it and they wouldn't look out of place. If you can't beat em, join em. Where's the shaft drive, it's a BMW? I'm glad to see it comes with a centre stand. I could live with the exhaust pipe. No doubt Akrapovik will fix that.
They said the shift cam wouldn't do much for this engine, I think they will need make a statement and make updates throughout the engine, they will want to be at least 230hp+ ( maybe aim for 250) and then give the XR the full engine not the detuned version. The 165hp is ok for some, but at this price point many expect the best spec in the class and XR is about to be overtaken unless they act.

RS much more uncomfortable for a tall person (taller pags, cramped and low bars), but better seat. I also find the boxers of any era/power much more drivable for long term life and 5-7/10ths touring dynamics. This one you need to be focused and going for it to enjoy in my opinion.
