    9:05 That is exactly the core message of the video.
    I had the XR for a day and the engine characteristics tempt you to push further and further.
    In Germany on the Autobahn, it ran at 260kmh/160mph, and that was frighteningly good.
    I was glad when I could get back on my GS...

    I’m on my second XR, 2016, and now my 21. You nailed it on the scoring. One thing tho having owned a 1290 super duke, when going from a V twins torque to a in line four on the XR? Simply ride it like a 500CC motorcrosser, you’ll never miss the 1290 again

    My xr is now stage 2 tuned, and now it’s rides how it must have been from factory … more low end power doesn’t get hot any more and it Mutch faster , 175hp and 130nm . If you can ride this bike good then many sport bikes will be impressed . Truly one of the best bikes I have ever ridden and own. As someone who rode both bikes the SDR and the 2022 XR, I will take the XR any day. In fact that is what I did.
    The XR is simply an amazing machine. There is in the UK a Tuning shop called (BHPUK) they did my ECU curve. The 'hole' on the power band simply vanished.
    The only thing about the XR is that once you own one, there is no other bike that can compete with it - so in a way you are locked into BMW.
    Score wise, my calculation came to 57 - only as my riding partner finds the boxes to be a little bit too high which make it harder for her to climb up and down.

    I test rode a ‘24 XR. Beautiful machine. Rode in dynamic pro the entire time. The most interesting thing I found was while in sixth gear at 40mph it felt like it was third gear. When I hit the gas, it took off. Nice torque cure throughout. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t trade my RT for it anytime soon.

    15:25 The little burble after downshifting or closing the throttle quickly might actually not be preprogrammed but actually an integral emissions thing.
    That is definitely the case for many Euro 3 (up untill 2017) bikes
    It comes from air that is being injected into the exhaust to burn off excess fuel, so it cant get out into the envoronment in an unburned state.

    • @theman3343
      @theman3343 3 місяці тому +1

      the burbles are absolutely preprogrammed and only show up in the dynamic and race modes. I have an RR and had an XR and it's an option to turn off in the tuning software. the bike does have the air system, it's just not what is causing the burbles

    • @BaldurM
      @BaldurM 3 місяці тому

      @@theman3343 ok, but the physical cause of decel pops, bands and burbles is still unburned fuel that is ignited with heat and leftover or pair vailve injected/redirected air.
      Maybe it has to be forced in Euro4/5 bikes by injecting too much fuel since they are more efficient but my old Euro 3 Fireblade pops and burbles just as much and longer from the factory.
      Plugging the pair valve did shut it up almost completely. Its bad for emissions/the cat though.
      The "turn off" option that you are refering to, is the overrun fuel cut.

Excellent handling and smooth riding with a fantastic quick shifter, but I went with a Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak instead because it has that V4 torque, sounds better and turns in better.

  • @Valks-22

    I was cross-shopping this with the RS, one of the main downsides was the chain compared to shaft drive which is far superior on frequent 1xxx km tours, second was the comfort. As a rider slightly taller than you I felt the seat was inferior to the RS, and my pillion who is 170cm also found the RS seat to be more comfortable, no issues with her sliding under anything that could be considered 'normal' braking and the handles are easy to grab if someone cuts us off.
    Well that and its size/height has the GS i.e. motorcycle SUV vibes I didn't like.

    I have a 1st Gen 2016 S1000XR, and I mostly agree with your positioning of the bike… However, if you take a look at what BrentTuning is doing with this bike (especially on new the M1000XR), you might soon move this bike to #1 or at least tie with the Super Duke.
    As an experienced older rider with an aging back, the XR is bloody fast and many times I’ve left ‘faster’ inexperienced sport bike riders snorting my dust.
    And THAT is what makes this bike so cool.
    It’s fast, sits commandingly high, easy to ride, yet leaves many motorists perplexed as to ‘who, what, huh???’ Just flew by them. 😎
    I’m never selling that bike. It’s a BEAST with a ton of potential. With the right exhaust, engine upgrades, tires, and tune, it can rip up many roads and tracks.
    It’s a sleeper.
    Honestly, I think you should try the M1000XR and if you can find one tuned and flashed by BrentTuning, I have a feeling you’ll really enjoy the ride.
    Til then…
    Ride Safe! And thanks for your review.

    Hey dude, you are the best. I finally got another motorcycle about 55 years after my first bike. (I am 70yrs old.) It is a wonderful '98 Ninja 500 and had only 7,000 miles on it when I bought it 3yrs ago for $1,300 USD. (I know. What a deal.) So I am learning all this cool stuff about motorcycles and how to be a better rider. Problem is, I am in love with the Triumph Daytonas. I've decided that the new 660 would be better for me than one of the older 675's. 94hp is plenty for me. I just need more protection from the wind. The Ninja 500 has been perfect for me. Should I stick with it? What's the wind like on the Daytona 660? Also, the Triumph sits an inch higher and is 70lb heavier. (I am 5'-7" and 150lb) What do you think?

A friend of mine and youtuber (Cuban Rider) rides his on the track and in the canyons around the USA and loves the XR. I sold my XR after 6 months for a new KTM 1290 Super Duke GT. I found the XR very dull and unengaging when not ridden at it's bleeding edge. Maybe the 1st Gen is a rowdier. I feel coming from v-twins (L -Twins) may have ruined me for inline-4 motos.

    When opportunity arises, do your review on the BMW R1250R, been looking at this for a wee while as I too like a sports bike and dont want a adv bike but looking for less top end than my existing 4bangers for longer trips.

    After watching the full video, I gotta say, while this ABSOLUTELY FAIR, you really really want to wrench and tune on this bike just a small amount. With bolt ons and a tune I am working with ~210hp, and I dont know how much torque, but it is a massive difference in feel, especially the velocity stacks and tuning.
    From the factory it has wayyyyy too many parts and enabled settings for emissions. Luckily, or even crucially, they made it easy to unfuck it with a tune. Even if you dont want to add parts or modify your bike, you can go to some BMW dealers that are also BT-Moto dealers, and get them to tune it for you, and it wont void your warranty! Highly highly worth it. For bike feel, and longevity of parts

    They're a nice bike but can't but feel an I4 bike are very lack lustre for low down torque which is what is preferred in a touring bike. Of course, when going for a blast, it's a beast!
    If I were to buy an i4 touring bike, I'd much rather have the ninja 1000sx, it's around £6000 cheaper and a more natural riding position.

    A friend told me this was the right bike for people who used to ride Fireblade's in the 90's... so I bought one and finally, at 50 years old (when I bought it in 2021), I found a bike that still gives me the thrills of a superbike with the upright seating position my age requires. Yes, you have to rev it hard but I love that, that's exactly how I like to ride (and probably why I hate the BMW boxer engine).
    And... there are a handful of solutions to solve the lack of torque in lower revs and then... it becomes an even better bike!
    I have other bikes and I keep trading them for different brands/models/styles, just to try it. But my plans for the 2021 XR is to trade it for a 2025 S1000XR! Do I need to say more? ;)

    The problem with initial reviews is that it doesn’t take into account how the bike holds up with maintenance and wear and tear over the next few years. Reason I am saying that is, how can you determine if a product is priced correctly with similar competing products, if you don’t know how they hold up after extensive use. Personally, I ride an Aprilia made in 2009 and all I can tell you is that fit and finish after 15 years and almost 24,000 miles is impeccable (aside from scratches due to drops, fault of my own obviously). So this needs to be taken into consideration - personal observation is that European motorcycles (and cars) have a much better appearance after years of use compared to their Asian counterparts. So how could you determine a true value of a product, if you don’t look at the entire life cycle of a product, where initial reviews are just that - initial observations for a very limited time.

    the s1000xr is the best bmw sport bike you can buy
    reasons -
    comfortable seat
    the same s1000rr engine but detuned
    comfortable and compliant suspension
    and at last some mild off-road capability

    • @fabiena1787
      @fabiena1787 3 місяці тому

      You really need to explain me the (even mild) off-road capabilities of the S1000R. Take all the time you need. BMW didn't even bother to put any gravel or off-road mode on the bike, that says a lot.

Always when thinking about xrs i think of the mt10 sp, but every single time i think of it, i end up looking at a tuono v4 1100, which i think is probably the best single bike to own if you dont ride dirt and want some adrenaline

    Due to severe speed restrictions on the road, a bike needs to have character and be fun to ride at all speeds. With no cross-plane crank or low down torque, all the excitement on the XR comes at high speeds…. It’s too good in a way! BMW need to give it more character rather than perfect A to B efficiency. In my opinion, Honda have the same problem with their in-line fours. The World doesn’t need more power, it needs more torque and character!
