Who else is watching vocal coach reacts to Tool videos just to watch the facial expressions and scroll through the comments...
Lmao.
Watchin reactions to this and Jinjer - Pisces are my new hobby.
For real!
Yep.
I've nearly (but not quite) had enough of watching African Americans react to Bill Burr's "Black friends, clothes and Harlem" bit (NoLifeShaq is the best), so now I'm onto watching white middle-class American female voice coaches listen to Tool's Sober live remastered clip.
They are in themselves two discrete genres of UA-cam video.
@@stefanavic6630 have you tried black people react to Chris Stapleton? If not you are missing out.
"The lyrics are super intense. The musicians are killing it."
That's Tool in a nutshell.
Make a video of yourself saying that. It would be more interesting than this.
Oh man... I was gonna comment on the "musicians" thing... You already did... Maybe she shouldn't focus on the singer... Also, Danny is one of the best drummers of all time.
@@MrCohrsman yes he is an amazing drummer!!!!
You're just a fanboy. He's nowhere near the best ever
@@jeremyjames1659 As someone who has played drums for 15 years, I'm interested to hear who your personal top 3 are if you think Danny is nowhere near the best ever.
How many voice coaches are going to react to this song?
lol song speaks for itself, eh?
All of them!
Not enough
Well I just realized their fan base request for them to look at it. So now I understand. The performance is very unique so I don't blame them for wanting to see someone react to it
Jay George how many are you going to watch lol
"Poised for battle " I love that summation of Maynard.
I thought she said 'poised' for battle...
@@hollysorensen1711 She did.
@@twomindz79 Oh, haha I read it as "poisoned" and was confused. My bad!
Should we tell her? lol
A lot of Tool fans know that Maynard is a big BJJ guy, but fewer know that he was a pretty good wrestler in high school. His dad was even the coach. I have noted in a lot of his performances that he adopts a wrestling stance (or something close to it) and moves like a grappler. The ultimate example is obviously when a fan came on stage during Pushit iirc and Maynard hip tossed him, threw his hooks in, and finished the song literally without missing a beat. He definitely takes a combative posture towards music, an it works.
So many people reacting to Tool. They've been around almost 30 years and finally people are appreciating the greatest band ever
You really should watch APC 3 Libras live on Jay Leno. And Maynard with Tori Amos
It’ll still be good 300 years from now
I only discovered tool last month. Forgive me. 😢I am now addicted. Maynard is something inhuman. Incredible band
@@Cerbera82 Welcome aboard! If you haven't yet get to a live show, it's well worth it for the memory.
More like they're just cashing in because they know people cannot resist it.
Focus. One of the few bands that can release albums whenever they are ready, and have a fan base ready to consume.
Yup lol
Devour.....
If you ever have an opportunity to see TOOL live, take it! So, so phenomenal.
This guys is right , it's a privilege experiencing tool. They are living in an age where music has literarily become dull. Like most people that have the opportunity to find this gem: you dont listen to tool, you experience tool.
Seen them in 2007 and I'll see them again in a week or so 🤙
Saw them in Hampton, VA this summer. Religious experience
Just saw them for the first time the other night... I was so full of emotions during and after... Incredible!!
Best Bonnaroo headliner out of the 6 years I went and it's not even really close
Finally a vocal coach reaction to Maynard that gets him...all others “bad posture!!”
Nic Restrepo Sam Johnson got him too
dignature123 I watched that after, he did. Sam is super nice, even when he has a critique, he always does it with positivity.
Nic Restrepo yes I love him!!
Nic Restrepo Beth Roars does a great reactions to this song. You should check it.
Scorpio King I’ll check it out
I've seen a bunch of reactions to his and you're the first to immediately pick up on the fact that Maynard is playing a character through this performance.
No she isn't. Several others have
I've watched about a dozen vocal coaches react to this (It's how I found this video tbh), and you do a few things differently that I love! 1) You don't criticize his posture, rather you understand exactly what and why he is doing it. 2) You don't pause the song at ALL from beginning to end!
This is Maynard in pretty much every tool and APC songs. I.e. dripping emotions
poncho larpez don't forget about puscifer!
He suffered from severe stage fright for a very long time so he learnt how to zone himself into the music to get past it
That’s awesome!!! Stage fright devours some people! Awesome accomplishment! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Why do people keep saying he has severe stage fright?
A person with stage fright would not go onstage in a onesie or a bra or full drag or almost completely nude.
@@mrlolster2144 saw tool last summer. Maynard wasn't on the stage the whole gig, only singing visible as a silhouette way behind the band.
@@91DevilDriver91 Same 15 years ago when I saw them
@@mrlolster2144 "suffered from" past tense.
It doesn't get better than Tool. When you see them live in concert it blows your mind.
Thats right. Saw them on Sunday and it was just mindblowing
rx7dude2006 I am going to see them in October. I feel almost nervous about the fact this will probably ruin every concert experience afterwards.
rx7dude2006 Njææææ; I guess they had a bad day, but the most boring concert I’d ever been to was a Tool show. I left in anger - and I wasn’t alone
meshuggah
I'm glad you realized that his posture and mannerisms are meant to be performative and reflective of the songs themes. I see a lot of vocal coaches talk about the bad posture. Also I see a lot of people who think he's actually high on drugs and he's not. In fact the song is meant to be a negative depiction of junkies and druggies.
Yeah, he also gets really uncomfortable in front, that’s why you will see him in back in newer concerts.
Hence why the song is called "Sober".
It's not just a bad depiction of druggies, it's an ode to one of his friends who claimed to only be creative when high, which Maynard disapproved of.
It works for the song for sure.. adds to the eerie vibe but he's actually standing like that because he's got really bad stage fright.. always has even to this day.. but he puts on a great show everytime.. but yeah if you see him at more recent tool gigs he usually stands in line with the drummer and the spotlight doesn't show him very often
Maynard literally poured his entire soul out here.
Something a vocal coach will never understand, you can't quantify that. Completely immeasurable.
When I can appreciate a well written, emotional song in a genre I’m not in to, shows the magic of the artistry.
This guy is a legend in my opinion. That many people in front of him, and his anxiety, and he still gets out there and kills it. As someone with anxiety, if I had to hazard a guess, i would say he's focusing on something far away with his eyes and digging deep for the emotion. Dudes doing all he can to forget the crowd is there, not run for the hills, and give all he's got the his art.
It’s a funny thing...people have eluded to the fact that Maynard has perfect pitch. You would get the impression watching his live shows that he could care less...but he really does. He has incredible precision in his vocals. My son (who has autism) also has perfect pitch. We both listen to Fear Inoculum together, and he keeps telling me that it sounds “too perfect”. I said to him, “Welcome to the world of Tool, my son”.
I love this comment so much. I have a son with autism too. Unfortunately, music is no something that interests him. But, I totally get this as an autism parent. Tool is just on another level.
❤❤
This is incredible. Being born in '95 my dad was a massive Tool fan when I was little. Fast forward to 2020 and I just got back from the Tool show in Spokane, where I bought some merch for my dads 48th birthday present. I drove 8 hours each way on a Monday to see them, listening to their whole discography and reminiscing about driving through the night, falling asleep in my dads car listening to those same songs as a 5-10 year old. Theres something powerful about the bond built by the love of music, and the nostalgia old songs can hold. Your little boy is gonna grow up to appreciate true music because of you, and when you or your son hear Pneuma or Invincible in 20 years, you'll be brought right back to those little moments youre having with him now!
@@xXxXcrosbykidXxXx I feel this 100% but from the other side. My son is a few years older than you, and he too grew up listening to Tool with me. We used to sing along in the car and drive his mother nuts. Fast forward a few years, and this past May i took him to see Tool in concert. Was an awesome show, and just a great memory.
copmagnet2002 that's wicked! In Spokane I actually had a father and son beside me, the boy was maybe 12-13 and he was absolutely loving it. So great to see :)
We need a vocal coach reaction to another vocal coach reacting to this video.
I love how you react to all sorts of genres
Finally someone who appreciates the entire performance, not just the music itself.
I have learned so much from your videos!!! The way you explains things makes it just much easier and it walkways makes sense 😃 Thank you so much Tara!
PS I hope your son is doing even better today 🤗
What did you learn? Seriously confused.
Great reaction, Tara! I love how you connected to the song and explained the essence of performance!
You should listen to "The Pot" from Tool. Maynard sings it in very high register with some very interesting harmonies going on.
I first heard Maynard in APC and fell in love with his pure emotion to sing and Express. Tool on the other hand is a phenomenal band. So much respect for Maynard.
Great reaction, you had it down perfectly, its all about the emotion on this tune.😊
This is probably the best most accurate reaction I've seen so far. Well done.
Tool has marched to their own drumbeat for decades. Such an awesome band.
Wow, throwback. Love Maynard. A Perfect Circle is my fave project of his.
"The Reading Festival" :D
It's a town in England, pronounced "Redding".
Watching these reactions is my new favorite thing.. it’s like capturing my own emotions that first time
& Just like that.... A new Tool fan is formed right before our eyes 😆😆👌👌
Nice! I am really glad that you chose this Band & song. Maynard has said in interviews before that he uses his music & artistry strictly for his own personal therapy to battle through specific times in his life. We are all simply along for the ride. A captivating & intense one at that. He won't even perform the same songs live after a while because he looses feeling for the song once he's passed it. Of course, he has also said that his music is for others to do the same & he welcomes it. When you spoke about that "animalistic stare" he gets mid performance, he does "trance out" with emotion most of the time in his performances & I agree I don't even think he sees the audience during those moments. He really is in is head so to say.
If you liked Tool you should definitely check out A Perfect Circle which is his other Band. It's still Maynard however it's a total different style/vibe. It's not as intense as Tool but I think you would enjoy it from a vocal stand point. The man can sing.
Or the late Layne Staley of Alice In Chains who is one of the best Alternative signers from the Grunge era ever IMO. The range on that mans voice is ridiculous.
I clicked so fast that a black hole started forming under my mouse button...
How do you guys come up with these? 😂
@@Tarasimonstudios Here at the TOOLARMY, we pride ourselves in being wordsmiths. We went head first into the rabbit hole a few decades ago and have ridden the spiral like it was a cosmic wave only seeing through our Third Eye.
Ever since i discovered Tool in the late 90's, they have meant so much to me and i almost cry when i hear this song and see professionals get impressed and talk about Maynards voice
Here I am watching reactions of this song. It makes me tear up on nights like these...
Next pick for Tool: Pushit, live salival version. One of the best live performances in history.
I’d say either Pushit Salival or 10,000 Days (Parts 1&2).
React to Man in the Box - Alice in Chains live at Moore I really hope Layne Staley can surprise you 🙌🏻
one of the hardest vocals to ever sing
Yeah I've been trying to take it for almost 3 months hahaahah
Pls do or NutShell by Alice In Chains.
Alice in Chains and Tool 2 of my top favorite bands of all time
Down i a hole live unplugged...that is a fcking awesome version of that song , dripping with emotion...
I love your style & that's one reason I love your feed. TOOL, FORGET ABOUT IT!! 💚💚✌️✌️
oohhh please Miss Tara ... more TOOL
you made it to one of my fav's TOOL is amazing
Tool transcends most bands in many ways. Raw humanity with an intellectual and sometimes spiritual approach. Maynard has one of those naturally powerful voices that gives a music fan the warm fuzzies. Please react to anything by Chris Cornell. Even better.
They pretend to be those things but are not
Maynard's voice and songwriting is a gift to rock music and he's on whole another level when it comes to live performances.
I watched this first, then a few other videos after. Now I'm subscribed! I really like your responsiveness
Tool! Yes!
Wow that was something different and intense, it was great! hope to see a Dido Review soon :)
The power of the onesie! You look beautiful as always!
Everyone should listen to this song with a set of proper headphones.
Loved this reaction video. Thanks for making it! I've always thought Maynard has one of the prettiest voices in metal.
Maynard is right up there in being one of the best vocalists in metal and hard rock.
Tara, you should react to Till Lindemann of Rammstein.
Sonne.

Absolutely Tara! Would be interesting to hear your thoughts.
Sonne or Keine Lust
This may be the most intelligent reaction. The thing is, he's just doing his thing. Myself, I always watch the musicians, but yeah, he's ... well, he's got great wine too!
I really love and appreciate your approach to Maynard and Tool. You'll enjoy a lot of his live performances with both of his bands because he always drips with emotions. I'm glad that you really understood that compared to others.
Thanks for the Tool reaction , I would love to see and hear your reaction to the hollow by A Perfect Circle. Maynard is the vocalist, just in case you are unaware
Great reaction. This was early in his career. He has evolved since then. A suggestion for you. He sings in A Perfect Circle. Maybe you can react to Weak and Powerless (tilling my own grave mix) or The Outsider. Both are amazing examples of his range and depth.
30 years ago and still blows me away everytime.
I am finding Tara's critiques so very good, she's honest on technique and performance, whether or not she is into the music.
TooL new album August 2019!
Maybe...
Delete "maybe" right now!
Don't you maybe me young man. Don't tease me with your Tool.
Not maybe, its a definite 8/30
DONT TEASE ME!!!
Great video, Tara. I love that you react to someone outside of your own singing genre and understand the differences needed in the performance style. Many vocal coaches would have criticised his posture as not being optimal, but you understand that this is required to live in the song as the character.
By the way, and there's no way you would know this from the spelling itself, but "Reading" is pronounced "Redding", not "Reeding". It's one of our English idiosyncrasies!
great breakdown! So glad I was a teen in the 90's, great music that felt real
One of the best live performances of any band ever.
Tool is my all time favorite band. Their list of masterpieces is endless, and they are even better when the lyrics are actually intelligeble. I'd recommend anyone to look up Tool + Lyrics on UA-cam. Don't even need to name any one song -That's literally all you need to go on a sprititual journey.. And.. You don't have to, but if you take a few puffs of a mellow Sativa or even eat a shroom, your mind will be absolutely blown listening to Maynard open up
Fun fact, the lead singer, Maynard, has a succesful Vineyard in Arizona. There is a Joe Rogan Podcast where he talks about it.
Lady you just watched the deepest , musical , masterclass band in the world ! TOOL ARMY !
“He’s almost in a character here”. lol. He’s been in character on stage for almost 30 years
I love your bopping head before the music starts 🤘
Queensrÿche - Take Hold Of The Flame (live in Tokyo 1984)
WOW...Tate is totally sick throughout that concert.
Subscribed for Tool...please react to Tool Pushit (salival) great reactions by the way!
His singing on that was god-tier
Whoa this chick is smart AF. Well spoken lady! Looking up more of your vids
You are so right. Your looks, your perspective . I felt the song through you❤
Im here from when you watched David Dramin sing the sound of silence.
He is a heavy metal singer, just thought you should know that.
Ahhh Tool was always better live versus their album. Amazing either way!! 😍
The fact that Maynard becomes the lyrics is what makes tool an amazing band to watch
This is such a ridiculously good review of the song, understanding going past just the song and understanding the emotion. You gained tons of respect from me.
I just hit subscribe before even watching this. I hoping you’ll like it so that you will do more TOOL.
I suggest the live version of their song Push It from the (mostly)live album Salival. That version of the song is slowed down, and more emotional that the studio version.
Devin Townsend - Kingdom, reaction would be great
love your reaction
Yes, Tool.... Great reaction Tara!
So sad that I missed yesterday’s live (still watched it after though 😛)! You should react to Celine Dion’s carpool karaoke!!
Everyone says he’s too hunched over. His jaw is misaligned. How can he push these notes out? Finally. Someone who says he’s grounded. That was the best part. He does things others can’t. End of story.
That rubbish can only say people that never singed a note live. You can not sing like this on any drug. Believe me i was a singer and this kind of vocal control is impossible on any drug.
Vitorio Santamato what’s really said is that you don’t know Tool. Maynard experimented with drugs. He didn’t like the way they made him feel. All his vocals are sober. Nothing less. He hates everything that messes with his mind. You don’t really know Tool, A Perfect Circle, or Puscifer...do you?
@@joloj23 No i'm not a huge fan, i like them and respect them. I dont know what i said wrong? For me his vocals are perfect here and it's impossible to sing like that when you're high.
i really loved your psychological review, you are both focused on the technical and communicative details. Cheers from Italy 🍕🍝
every vocal coach that see/listen to TOOL always ✴on there self
LOVE IT all hale TOOL!!!!
"Huge crowd it's awesome."
*Maynard thousand yard stare*
I would love to see you react to and analyze the live performance in Tokyo 1984 of Take Hold of the Flame by Queensrÿche.
Everyone reacts to that, I have yet see an analysis of "Warning" IMO their best.
My new hobby is watching reactions to Tool or random songs I know they will react entertainingly to.
I love watching these reaction videos with this performance. It's always the same reaction. They are amazing.
Just a mention, Maynard was an opera singer for 1, and 2 Maynard was very high on acid in this video, actually most of the 90s
brandon boyd Any proof of either of your statements? I couldn't find any.
Even though it's very likely he's done some acid (judging by his interviews and rumors), I doubt he was on acid on stage, at least not in this performance. Have you ever been on acid? When you're "very high on acid" as you stated, you won't be able to focus and perform like this. I'd be very very surprised if he was, since it takes a lot of effort to be able to do that even... well, sober.
Oh cool man so you know him personally and we’re with him at this time or? No.. no you weren’t, were you? Your just adding to the endless database of people online saying unfounded nonsense with zero credible sources.
So glad you did this! Maynard has stage fright which is part of why he's hunched over. Definitely check out more Tool or A Perfect Circle, Judith is killer! Also, you look beautiful, as always ❤
oilfan pw Not exactly, it has been said he has stage fright however he debunked that in his book. Has nothing to do with him being hunched over or why he stands in the back.. he said and I quote I stand in the back because I’m not a lead singer and I cringed when people call me that I need to hear myself and don’t wanna try and sing over Adams Amps and I can hear better in the back plus it’s about the music not me being out front .. and so on people assume it’s stage fright but it’s not the case.. but being hunched over has nothing to do with stage fright.. he doesn’t do that performing APC or pussifer.. it’s just how he gets into singing early TOOL.. just saw them live a few weeks ago great show and was glad to hear some new songs, hands down my fav band. Seen them several times live .. unfortunately he doesn’t get into it quite the same and I can’t blame him, haha we are all getting older.. still a great show tho
