OMG!! Well, I guess I have become a soldier in the TOOL ARMY - THANK YOU for the honor! I'm just an old de-composer on a little island in the middle of the pacific and these comments are the coolest!! I reading through the comments and it's looking like I'm going to continue doing more TOOL reactions from my POV of a composer (De-Composer).
I recommend always having the lyrics pulled up because sometimes it's difficult to catch what Maynard is saying. Just react to the audio or concert videos. The actual music videos are pretty distracting for someone who's never heard the songs before. I got to see them in San Antonio back in October 2019. One of the best shows I've ever seen. I really liked your reaction because it's cool to hear from a composer's point of view. I took music theory and piano way back in college. If you could keep it kind of simple, it'd be nice to hear you talk more about time signatures and key changes. Glad to welcome you to the Tool Army!
Great reaction! 🙌 Tool has been my favorite band since '93 😍 Lateralus is an amazing song, you will love it! Definitely check out Schism which won them a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance 🤘 With the exception of this Sober performance and the Danny Carey live drum cam video for Pneuma, I would stick to just the audio vids for their songs, and maybe have the lyrics pulled up.... I think you will appreciate them as well. Welcome to the Tool Army 🤗 🌀
Welcome to one of if not THE greatest rock band ever. Enjoy your journey. I promise there are many treasures awaiting you. In terms of composition, lyricism and overall artistry these guys are in a league of their own. I would describe them as equal parts Zeppelin and Floyd with a dollop of Rush.Take care!👍👏🍻
This is the truth. I've only been once when they toured with Primus. Those two bands are more than a show. Definitely a unique unforgettable experience.
@@glynnporrino9435 honestly they might be a better show than tool. It's an experience, and that opening bass line, from my name is mudd over a PA system is the real deal.

The song The Grudge is rooted in the friction between the Catholic church and the rise of science. So yeah, he reads a lot. Adam is the one who made a lot of their videos. @@Steam_Engenius Oh good grief. He is in my top ten for sure but can we not pretend like like there aren't a bunch of other phenomenal drummers out there. Comments like this is precisely why us Tool fans are seen as pretentious turds as a whole.
@Dizzy Gear I don't know what made you think I ever expressed a notion that anyone should think the way I do, or that I care at all how anyone else thinks or feels. If someone can't infer something to be sarcasm or hyperbole then just as I stated, it's over their head. Plain and simple. This is defined as beyond someone's ability to understand something. As for the current era overusing the exaggerating effect of hyperbole, if you want to go on a crusade to reign in people's use because it bothers you, then be my guest. You know what else is bothersome about this era? People finding a reason to defend other people because it gives them an excuse to make a confrontation or proudly soapbox about a perceived injustice.
For a composer’s point of view - Lateralus is a beast of a song. The Grudge as well. Pushit. Vicarious. So many good songs. Also, lyrics are imo a HUGE part of the experience, great writing in general. Subbing, hoping to see more Tool
remember when you said, no one would watch this video. Almost a year later and a over a quarter million watches. I think you underestimated your genuine likeabilty and knowledge. its rare quality on the web. Oh and TOOL it was the perfect storm . Just caught myself this for the 2nd time and had to give ya some love from the tool cult.
This is just genius Beyond stupid . Enough said, I'm subscribing. I watched your Lateralus reaction first and then came to this , welcome to the family
The way Maynard James Keenan switches between soft and powerful vocals and his bandmates driving it home with the drums, base, and guitar is amazing. Even if someone isn't a fan of metal, they can appreciate range of sound and the way Keenan projects his voice.
So 4 years after you dropped this I have to comment. You picked a doozy for your first reaction video, and I'm glad it took you down both the reaction video path and the Tool rabbit hole. I'm not sure if you've found this or someone has said it, but the bass player at this time, Paul D'Amour, is a guitarist by trade, he just picked up bass for Tool. That's at least part of why he has a unique approach to bass. As you heard, he's strumming all D's in that main riff. That strum and the distortion, plus his setup (cranked up highs and lows rolled down) gives him that serious crunch. I feel he was a serious innovator.
“I don’t think anybody’s gonna watch this video”. Tool is one of my all time favorite bands and anytime i see someone react to them I have to watch. I guess I’m not alone.
More videos. Tool is a treat. And now I'm all curious about you. I might learn sh*t, so more music appreciation, please. More Tool, too. We'd like it. They're worth it. I'll vouch for them. :)

Spiral out, keep going, spiral out! Check out Lateralus, Descending (it was a grower for me), Vicarious, Invincible, Fear Inoculum, there are so many...lol
James "Maynard" Keenan is usually singing from the background and puts the band in front of him. In this performance, he is out front which is very rare for him. As far as his intense stare, he chooses one person in the audience and locks onto him/her and sings directly to them. Maynard now owns a vineyard and produces his own brand of wine. As a side note, I am a former professional percussionist (classic and symphonic rock) from the 1970's as well as radio personality from the same era and very much enjoy the way you do your reactions. Great job sir.
Maynard pulled those last words from his bowels. I appreciate so much that while I felt separated my whole life, Tool gave me something to sit next to. Watching someone experience this song- the song that Hooked Me- for the first time- I was still a very young age when I heard it first- I just turned 40, this song was new... but to watch another adult react to this, while my heart was breaking and spilling out from between my ribs, was really special. Aloha
I took my daughter to her first concert. We saw tool in oakland and we were just demolished by the performance. Amazing. Maynard ruled. My daughter has excellent taste in music!
Just watched both reaction videos and your insight is great. Loved seeing you get excited listening to these songs. Share your wisdom with us. That's why reaction videos work. We already know the music, we want to see you find the beauty and hear your thoughts and feelings. You'll be great. Keep it up and watch your numbers grow!
I got to see TOOL years back.. The indoor stage was incredible. Psychedelic images and coloring, projected on a HUGE back drop. Danny was front center. Guitar off to the left rear. Maynard up high to the right. 2 naked people hanging from the ceiling by their feet. 1 male, 1 female. They would spin and rotate, come together... The whole performance. Was amazing to experience.
"This is my first and probably last reaction video..." lol thank you for being wrong. You've breathed new life into some of my favourite songs and hearing your break them down the way you do has been an awesome ride.
Welcome to the Tool rabbit hole brother! That was one of their simpler songs.....every song is a masterpiece. One of the greatest bands ever to play. You can pick any song.Do "Tool-Lateralus"...or you can Do "Tool-Pneuma"...they have a drum cam version if that song too.....just rememeber to only do the music and have a pair of headphones on....also have lyrics pulled up while listening.....stay away from official music videos because they take away from the musical experience .Keep going🌀
The first time I heard Tool, was the first time I saw Tool live at the 1st Big Mele at Kualoa Ranch way back in the early 90s, I was blown away immediately, Maynards performance was entrancing, instant fan my bruddah!!! Aloha!!
Just subscribed and liked. Okay, so you're going to want to react to A LOT of Tool, and make sure that you have the lyrics ready for each song because Tool is deep and philosophical. Looking at your channel, it seems like you are heavily into music and meditation, which will serve you well when it comes to Tool's music. I would suggest reacting to "Opiate", "Undertow", "Bottom", "Aenima", "Hooker With A Penis", "Eulogy", "Parabol/Parabola" and "Lateralus" as a starter. Dive into the lyrics, PLEASE. Continue reacting to Tool! Also: I would suggest using a good set of headphones for your reactions as to fully submerse yourself in their music. Vocalist: Maynard James Keenan Drummer: Danny Carey (The Octopus) Guitarist: Adam Jones Bassist: Justin Chancellor (original bassist was Paul D'Amour)
Got turned on to these guys back in ‘98 from a co-worker...could not believe the intensity of this band...their sound just rolls around your brain hitting ALL of the pleasure spots...was also introduced to Korn at the same time...my life has never been the same...
I think you summed it up exactly how I saw it... it was a first for me... I’m 64, and thought it was so brilliant, so heavy and powerful! I’m now a total Tool fan...his voice and the drummer is next level ...unbelievable!
Insane performance. They play in D and D# through the whole song and Maynard is basically making this song happen. You don`t even notice the first times you listen to it that the chorus and verses are in the same key because of him. It just confirms once again that less is more.
Maynard is one of the greatest vocalists to ever do it, along with the rest being absolute legends on their instruments. I feel blessed to have been alive to experience Tool as they happened 💜
Danny Carey is the drummer you noticed a few times here. There is a “drum cam” live performance of the song Pneuma that I’d really enjoy seeing your reaction to.
TOOL is cultish in it's following because they are just so ahead of the curve and always have been. Yeah, this is drop D. I'm your age. TOOL is next level. You'll enjoy this rabbit hole. Maynard's love for his mom is so epic. Watch his music about his mom who passed away. She was an angel. "Wings for Marie".
Hey everyone that loves TOOL, it’s around 3:53 when sht really starts to get intense lol I waited patiently for him to get there and you should too, but that’s likely what many who are fans of tool came here to see. Great video though really insightful breakdown
Watching this video after the 42-6 breakdown, I'm really happy you stuck with making more of these videos. Hearing someone break down and explaining elements of these songs that I enjoy and that move me but never having the words has been a blessing.
This song is one of the most top 40 "pop" type songs of theirs. Being a meditative man, it seems, their new album is for you. They have some jams that really take you to anothern place. I recommend the album 10,000days as well but the meditative long form music was only being born during that album, with "Fear Innoculum", they have ascended into the form they hold now.
It's always fun to watch people react to something so amazing. They don't play it in concerts. I wish they did. I saw another reaction video to this song. It was funny. A woman was watching it and she was so blown away she had to stop the video so she could take a deep breath.

@@Steam_Engenius Oh good grief. He is in my top ten for sure but can we not pretend like like there aren't a bunch of other phenomenal drummers out there. Comments like this is precisely why us Tool fans are seen as pretentious turds as a whole.
@@rstrid5505 comedy first and always. If you take hyperbole as axiom, it's over your head.
The "octopus" reigns supreme...that's fo sho!
This was the first video/song I had listened to Tool. I ve repeat it all the night! 💕🔥
Yes! More Tool reactions! Pneuma drum cam.... Or Tool - Lateralus
Yeah do more tool!
Been listening to tool for thirty years and still get chills every single time!
“I don’t think anybody’s gonna watch this video”. Tool is one of my all time favorite bands and anytime i see someone react to them I have to watch. I guess I’m not alone.
I literally get giddy any time I see a Tool reaction video ❤
240k now
" I don't think anybody will watch this " dude ... you underestimated your input!
Hook, line and sinker. I'll be in for the ride. Have a blast, man!
There's nothing like seeing someone new get blown away.
More videos. Tool is a treat. And now I'm all curious about you. I might learn sh*t, so more music appreciation, please. More Tool, too. We'd like it. They're worth it. I'll vouch for them. :)
I don't understand why people (young) think older folks who like rock would not like this. This is classic, first time I heard it had to find on You Tube !!! I am 71
Youuuu might be surprised about the whole “reaction thing”...wait till the tool army gets here in force. They are coming im sure of it
Edit: looks like im a few days off, its already started lol.
They’re coming and here to stay....
I already subbed 😂
The bassist here, Paul D'Amour has a guitar background, hence the strumming you noticed. After this album they switched bassist to Justin Chancellor
Welcome to the tool army brotha so many layers to their music been a fan since 2002 and never get tired of any of thier songs,
Haha "I dont think anyone is going to watch this" You quickly became my favorite reaction channel after the first video I saw! Your insight is phenomenal and makes me appreciate musical talent even more. Please React to some Alice in Chains 🙏 you'll find their fans just as passionate as tool fans.
Lots more Tool reactions please......give us the pleasure of watching your first time hearing every Tool song....we watch because as much as we love Tool we all wish we could hear it for the first time again so we achieve this Vicariously through you.....
So true! Couldn't have said it better. Keep em coming Mr. Geebz...
*This Video Plays*
And thus, the best reaction channel on the internet was born.
If you play it, the Tool army will come.........
The step he backs at 6:56....
Feels like it charged up the whole planet. So much power
Please react to more Tool, you will really appreciate them.
Seen this 100 time heard on the radio a million times and still get goosebumps every time love tool
Spiral out, keep going, spiral out! Check out Lateralus, Descending (it was a grower for me), Vicarious, Invincible, Fear Inoculum, there are so many...lol
Let’s be honest.....basically all their songs.😁🍺
How bloody good is Descending??!! Gets better on every listen 😂
@@inbloom08 The true gem of the album. I know I’m in the minority, but I find 7empest overrated. Just an opinion.🍺
Ha! Love your shirt 🤣🤣 Thank you for these videos!!! Not a die hard Tool fan like some, but I do appreciate their talent.
“At my age I like to call myself a decomposer” I wanna be a composer just to say that later on in life
James "Maynard" Keenan is usually singing from the background and puts the band in front of him.
Spiral out, keep going ... ..... ........ .............
Aloha
Do more!!! Try Schism and/or Lateralus.
schism is one of my fave's as a newcomer to tool its one that hooked me hard
I took my daughter to her first concert. We saw tool in oakland and we were just demolished by the performance. Amazing. Maynard ruled. My daughter has excellent taste in music!
Just watched both reaction videos and your insight is great. Loved seeing you get excited listening to these songs. Share your wisdom with us. That's why reaction videos work. We already know the music, we want to see you find the beauty and hear your thoughts and feelings. You'll be great. Keep it up and watch your numbers grow!
"I don't think anyone's gonna watch this video"
I'm binge watching your Tool reactions like crazy and it's saving my life these last few days
Other reactors: Wow! His voice is so clear those high notes that he's been hitting is so amazing, etc...
Him: SO INTENSE
Also Him: Ta Ta Tss Ta Ta Tss
5:24 This is drums, bass, guitar and a singer. Just like Zep and The Who, and so many awesome bands. Wonderful stuff.
Try A Perfect Circle and Puscifer also. Maynard fronts these bands also. Different to T00L but the lyrics are social commentary also. ✌😁
After all these years. Still as intense now as it was then. Unbelievable performance. Well done, outstanding.
Vocalist: Maynard James Keenan
Drummer: Danny Carey (The Octopus)
Guitarist: Adam Jones
Bassist: Justin Chancellor (original bassist was Paul D'Amour)
Got turned on to these guys back in ‘98 from a co-worker...could not believe the intensity of this band...their sound just rolls around your brain hitting ALL of the pleasure spots...was also introduced to Korn at the same time...my life has never been the same...
Great reaction. It's refreshing to hear a composers' thoughts on the actual composition of a song. Welcome to the rabbit hole. 😁
I'm 63 years old. Just really enjoy Tool a really amazing musical, almost spiritual experience listening to their sound and lyrics.
As someone already said, there's nothing that us Tool fans love more, than seeing other people discovering Tool.
I think I'm accidentally going backwards through your vids and find myself here!!! And now I see how this all began . And i love it even more!!
Finally found a composer i can enjoy reacting to music lol....love how this guy respects it all n breaks it down n wants to know more
TOOL is cultish in it's following because they are just so ahead of the curve and always have been. Yeah, this is drop D. I'm your age. TOOL is next level. You'll enjoy this rabbit hole. Maynard's love for his mom is so epic. Watch his music about his mom who passed away. She was an angel. "Wings for Marie".
And, you can hear him as the singer in A Perfect Circle, where he sings very bluntly about his mother and her illness in "Judith".
Hey everyone that loves TOOL, it’s around 3:53 when sht really starts to get intense lol I waited patiently for him to get there and you should too, but that’s likely what many who are fans of tool came here to see. Great video though really insightful breakdown
Very cool, love hearing from the point of view of a composer! Check out Pneuma Danny Carey Live. Spiral out, keep going!
Im 53 and Tool has been one of my top bands since the mid 90s. They span all age groups
Watching this video after the 42-6 breakdown, I'm really happy you stuck with making more of these videos. Hearing someone break down and explaining elements of these songs that I enjoy and that move me but never having the words has been a blessing.
I appreciate that!
Welcome to the family.
This is no where near a Top 40 song lol
It's always fun to watch people react to something so amazing. They don't play it in concerts. I wish they did.
I saw another reaction video to this song. It was funny. A woman was watching it and she was so blown away she had to stop the video so she could take a deep breath.
Loved the reaction!! If you want to check out another super powerful performance, check out pearl jam - black (mtv unplugged)
