After launch, Sonic Origins was found to have many performance issues on PC. However more importantly, the PC port is not running for many people, especially for those who do not have a graphics card installed. I will once again HIGHLY recommend that you choose PC to be the final resort of buying this game collection. Please consider getting Sonic Origins on console if you wish to play this collection. Every platform has a ton of bugs and glitches too so if that's not your thing, I would skip out on Sonic Origins. From my personal experience, I ran into very few bugs and it was smooth sailing for me, although I can't guarantee the same for all of you!

@@AlexOnDemand Not yet Sonic 3K in particular has tons of bugs yet to be fixed (if you die with a shield you will respawn with the shield, getting a 1-Up completely restarts the level music from the beginning, certain areas being impossible to reach). And the awful Tails jumping bug in Sonic 2 (and it might be in Sonic 1 as well, haven't tested Sonic + Tails in that game) is not yet fixed.
Even though It has bugs and glitches it’s still an easy way to play old classic games I know this I am still going to buy this is a awesome And with no the accolades sonic is finally good
Trust me buddy I know exactly where you're coming from with the music. It's so iconic even my friend who hasn't played Sonic for 20 years and had a massive drug issue that horribly damages her memory, STILL remembers ice cap vividly.

Sonic Origins is a great classic collection at heart. But perhaps extra content and updates would be a warm welcome for sure.

Sonic Mega Collection on 6TH GENERATION CONSOLES HAD MORE GAMES!
It had a gallery, Sonic 1-3, 3 and knuckles had its original soundtrack... Being Michael Jackson'd.Generally this port is terrible. It forgot about the Game Gear and Master System games.
40 for 4 games that are mostly there, to be fair it's Tax Man and Stealth versions of 1-2+CD, but not being able to disable Coins in favor of lives while having... WIDESCREEN is a turn off.
Poor framerate on PC IS ASTROCIOUS. Like these games can be emulated within in emulator via Dolphin, PSX2 for a collection.
There is a lack of love for 8-bit sonic, Neo-geo pocket color sonic, or even ackowledgment of GBA games.

Think you’re being a little harsh on it. Yes, it sucks anniversary mode has no lives options, and yea it sucks they didn’t include the game gear or master system games or mj soundtrack for sonic 3, but what they put out is still awesome, and the absolute best collection Of sonic games available. Like everyone else I was pleasantly surprised. As a collection of he first four mainline games, it’s near perfect.

A gamecube copy of Gems Collection looks more crisp than the actual "Sonic Origins collection" not to mention Gems Collection was more content for Cheaper, during a pre-digital age. It's somehow more crisp than origins when played via emulation. That's a major insult because that was my first exposure to Sonic as a kid with a PS2. That should tell you something.
I wouldn't be so spiteful if it weren't for the takedown on the original genesis versions of these games on PC or the removal of the singular Sonic CD. I rather have the 100% UNADULTURATED CHRISTIAN WHITEHEAD SONIC CD THAN ORIGINS. Atleast it runs on Windows 7 ( I don't use it anymore )
There is no INTERGER SCALING ON THE ORIGINS COLLECTION... There is no EXCUSE for that. It's 2022, if Capcom can do that for the Megaman franchises, Sega should've TRIED. I like options like Letterbox, 4:3 Something to make the in-game graphics not shimmer and be 100% pure clean and CRISP....
Also the De-compilation versions of sonic 2 and 1 look SO MUCH SUPERIOR, not to mention the same engine as Sonic Origins for the damn games.
Sonic Origins just pisses me off for being a Grand Theft Auto " Definitive " edition for Sonic fans if played only on PC.... Sega knew people bitched at them for putting Denuvo on Mania, but they still did it AGAIN. There is no excuse for this.
Sonic Origins was bastardized due to Sega Publishing than anything else. I love Sonic, but damn his movies are his only revenue of good content, but his games are just pathetic? Sonic Frontiers is gonna be the death of the company... As seriously it looks as complete as sonic 06 is. Sega isn't full of talent, but bean counters. They're no actual gamers in it at all or fans of Sonic.

The stiffness issue of Sonic 1 and 2 is how the rolling mechanic works. When jumping out of a role from pressing down at high speeds, spindashing, etc, you will loose all air control. Sonic 3 also has this issue, but the insta-shield let's you regain air control, effectively canceling this mechanic which was a thing in the original genesis version. Sonic CD doesn't have this mechanic. This is why the controls of Sonic 3 and CD feel better, and they used the CD approach with Sonic Mania.

i don't get why they can't just use the mania physics for all of the games. if the remakes run on taxman's retro engine it'll be pretty easy to pull off

Eh, i’ve gotten used to it due to playing the whitehead ports on mobile, but it is a trip up for anyone going from Mania straight to Origins, i am personally not bothered as it’s not my first rodeo with 1, CD, and 2 but it was my first time with 3K and it made me just appreciate the insta shield ability a lot more
Update: That part I talked about with Sonic 3 is wrong in Origins. The insta-shield still cancels the mechanic in the original, but the air control loss mechanic was removed in the Origins remake. So no insta-shield is not required to turn around.
I'm not supporting it for d listing classic Sonic games to 40 to 45 dollars not worth it and then locking features that shouldn't be behind a paywall I am glad everyone else is enjoying this collection but I won't be supporting it.

hi! I'm assuming you've played the game/know about it. Is it worth it? I wanna buy it but don't wanna be dissapointed. I am just looking for sonic games to play (never played any proper sonic game except from the roblox one). Would it be worth buying?
@@DarrGabb If you haven't played any of the classic titles, then yeah! It's great! Personally, there are some things that seem a little rough. The settings by far are some of the more rough parts of the compilation, since I had a lot of difficulty actually finding the settings, and then changing the soundtracks. Other than that though, it's a great compilation. The best parts of the mobile versions of the classic titles are here, including updated graphics, 16:9 aspect ratio, and improved physics and controls. The missions are fun, the story mode is interesting, and the cutscenes are just fantastic. Some of the updated soundtracks are... well, they leave a lot to be desired. However, if you've never played the classics, or lack nostalgia for them, I doubt they'll be an issue to you.
As for the price... it's a little expensive, and honestly, out of any of the versions, I'd easily say the Switch or Console. PC seems to be having some issues with Denuvo, a poor anti-piracy software that SEGA tends to use for their games.
TL;DR: if you haven't played the classics, go for it. It's a solid compilation. The remastered versions of the games are great, the cutscenes are awesome, and the coins actually help a lot with restarting special stages, which can get very difficult later on. There's a lot here to sink your teeth into. The price is debatable, but I'm personally enjoying it, and I've played these games hundreds of times. The worst parts of this compilation are mostly minor inconveniences than real issues. Best option is easily the switch or console. Pc is a little rough rn.
@@hotchocolate8008 thanks for the info! I’ll probs wait for future updates to see if pc is gonna be better in the future as that’s what I wanted to buy it on. It was just hard to know if it was worth it because the comments on steam were basically 50/50. Some were saying there’s fps issues while others were saying it’s worth it and it left me a bit stuck 😂

For the most part, I’d say it’s worth it, but man, the problems are definitely glaring. Mostly how the new versions of the prototype S3 tracks are just terrible, and the game still uses the same blurry linear scaling that the 2011 Sonic CD port used. (Also Denuvo.) I do think overall the fan decomps and S3AIR are better, and that’s how I’ll continue to play on PC, but this is still a solid way to play them, and at this point, I’m just glad to have 3K on my Switch.
EDIT: After finishing Story Mode, there’s definitely some issues. Audio mixing’s all over the place (especially in CD), Tails’s AI is broken in S2, Drop Dash doesn’t feel right in 1 & 2, and I ran into some collision bugs that caused some cheap deaths (notably in 3K). Also, I’ve heard about a particularly nasty bug in Story Mode that can mess up your save file. Thankfully, I never ran into it myself.
But I love many of the changes that were made in 3K like restoring some unused animations and backgrounds and adding new looking animations. These are still good ways to play the games overall, but I’d understand waiting for these to hopefully be patched.
You kind of counter argument yourself. You make it seem like it's not worth the price at all but you still bought it just because of the value the original games has to you and the portability of the switch. NGL I'd like to have them on my switch but I think Ima just mod mine and get S3 air on my switch along with mods
To me prototype S3 trucks are not at all terrible and sound perfectly fine to me.
It was the original composition for the game and I think they more accurately represent the trilogy than MJ's involvement.

I personally find no issue with how they did they animations - personally I liked that they filled in the gaps I'd always had in my head about how the games themselves connected to each other, and I'm super happy to see them in cartoon form. Connecting the games together with animations is a huge deal for me, and it was never about the lore - for me it is just about being able to see it all seamlessly. It makes it all feel like much more of a whole piece, and I love it.
Fun Fact the issue with the drop dash in Sonic 1 & 2 is it’s programmed that Sonic actually does a quick Spindash when landing if you look at it frame by frame you can see the Spindash activate.
Also I will say, the dropdash is kinda overpowered. You can just spam the dropdash and go to the future or past
Considering the original concept was to timetravel effortlessly, that is a cool way to sorta restore that without actually changing the function.
@@lpfan4491 Except that the levels weren't designed for it and the ability to do so makes it even easier to get stuck in walls when you time travel in a spot the game doesn't expect you to.
This is one of the only positive reviews I've seen. The missing Michael Jackson tracks is a bummer though the presentation and and cutscenes are a nice addition.
Denuvo on these games is absolutely insane. Yeah it's a new release but it's still just four games from the 90's.
I think this needs some patching going forward but I doubt Sega cares. They need to add options to the classic mode to make them accurate to the originals and they need to figure the fucking music stuff out with 3K. The renditions of the prototype music isn't even as good as the prototype music.
For me I don’t really care about the music because I just don’t like any music in general but I can sorta see why people are mad at their favorite sound tracks being gone

To fix the stiffness in Sonic 1 & 2 I usually go to the level select menu and turn on Sonic 3 items. This gives sonic the insta-shield from Sonic 3 which helps him course correct his jumps much easier.
Plus this adds the elemental shields which makes levels like Marble and Labyrinth Zone so much more playable (and dare I say enjoyable)
Marble Zone is fine as is but I can see dashing across the lava with a flame shield being fun
Marble Zone has been my favourite zone since I was 5. It doesn’t need anything to make it playable

To me, that's the definitive way to play Sonic 1 now. I don't play it without those now

Would be cool if they added zone transitions like sonic mania or since they are really marketing the animations it would be cool to get animations between zones, like how did sonic get to green hill to chemical plant??

My best guess is that they simply didn't want to change the games even a bit. I mean, the cutscenes that do exist don't even connect with the ingame-cutscenes, both versions just sorta play and it is a weird disconnect.(As a reference for what I mean, it would make a lot more sense if the ingame-cutscenes played in the solo-versions of the games and the new cutscenes would play for the storymode. But that would require tweaking the games to cut out the credits-portions if the current gamemode is the storymode.)
it would be cool if they changed all of the games to be consistent with sonic 3 and add all the minibosses and the victory animations and spinning singposts etc etc..
and of course all that stuff will be absent in clsssic mode so you can play the games as intended

Sonic Origins is easily, without a doubt the absolute best Classic Sonic collection of all time thus far, possibly the best Sonic collection in general. I'm very satisfied with the final product.

@@ExtraordinaryFate I've only ever experienced one single bug in Sonic Origins thus far after playing all games, and it was in Sonic 3 and Knuckles, in Carnival Night Zone, when I jumped on a barrel, the game crashed. Other than that, the game has been smooth, fun, and enjoyable. I haven't experienced any other bugs or glitches since as of yet.

Well, between the fact that:
1. These are games that have been ported to every system in existence (except this time, with added DRM)
2. The ridiculous pricing for said games (not including the pre-order bonus content)
3. No bonus games. They could have thrown in 3D Blast too or even Spinball just to pad out the collection.
4. No extra playable characters. We got Mighty and Ray in Mania, yet they are absent here. Metal Sonic and Amy are heavily advertised but they aren't playable.
5. The butchered Sonic 3 music (mastered by Jun Sunoue, reinforcing the notion that the guy is a hack whose music has become extremely generic now)
6. Like I said before, there's DRM.
7. And the behind the scenes developer drama,
I'd say... No. In fact, Sonic Origins is not actually worth it.
And no, some badly designed mission modes and little 3D dioramas on the menu screens is not enough. If you want me to care, then let me run through those worlds as Sonic like in Sonic Jam.
But hey, I'm not gonna stop you from buying it. That's your choice to make, not mine.
Also, they litterally removed the og games from steam so people would buy origins... and dude 5 minutes of cutscenes and a mission mode are not enough to make paying 5 times the price

Just started the video, happy to see you liked the same thing I did. I have fond memories of scrolling through the Sonic Mega Collection gallery, and to see the history and franchise so lovingly and thoroughly documented in Origins was a treat. I fired up the game and the very first thing I hit was the museum; there's just a magic to looking at these scans of all these games manuals, art, and animations that takes me back to being a kid again. Sonic 2 was the first game I ever played at 3 years old, I almost cried existential tears perusing what's on offer here; filled with bittersweet nostalgia.
Why is it always a mess when they try to make some anniversary shit? For god's sake, Sonic Jam was just a placeholder for another Sonic game that was delayed and eventually got cancelled. Yet it was far superior than this. Tails does not respawn once I lose him yet you hear constant jumping sounds from him. Knuckles is not playable in SCD. The quality of the music of S3&K is awful. 1-ups got replaced by coins yet 1-up orbs are still there. These are mostly patch fixing issues so please Sega, release the patch and make this the definitive edition to play Sonic 1-K....as far as it can be a defintive edition without MJ's great tracks.
Not with that price tag, but I'll consider it once it goes on sale.
As a Sonic Lore Master, I was hoping for cutscenes in between new zones. Like it would be cool seeing the journey Sonic and Tails have or a cutscene showing Amy bing excited that Sonic saved her.

About the music in sonic 3 the music they used was from the sonic and knuckles collection which is the pc version and the music in that version was actually the prototype of sonic 3&k
You know. I love that this is a positive review of Origins. Sonic Origins is way better than other Sonic UA-camrs say. I was hesitant to buy it because of what others said about it, but I bit the bullet and I was not disappointed. I spent an entire day just in the blue spheres.
This collection may be the best way to play sonic from a gameplay perspective but it definitely isn’t the best from a content one. Widescreen and mission mode and mirror mode with 8 animations that are like 30 seconds each don’t justify a $20 price increase when all of the games were $5 a piece. Mega collection plus had art from every game up to it and the menu music was top notch. We also can’t forget there were a bonus like 10 games that you could play (3D Blast, Spinball, Bean Machine, Ristar, etc.) So overall Mega collection plus will never be dethroned but I can see where your coming from. Personally I’m not gonna purchase this until it’s under $20 but it seems to be a decent collection, it’s just not worth the price point for the same experience some had 30 years ago
You see I would be totally fine with this statement if Nintendo didn't get away with much worse.
I mean they sell the bare minimum for 60€ not 40€ and this collection has actual effort put into it besides a resolution upscale.
Not to mention it will go down in price at some point especially when the sales will come in.
Something Nintendo still doesn't do properly as their sales always only go down to 40€ from 60€.
So I think it's 100% justified for SEGA to release this collection at this price considering the time and effort that was put into it.
@@YTDani75 I agree. That’s why I don’t purchase any of the nintendo rereleases as well. If all rereleases/remasters were priced at half of what they were when they were originally released it would be much more consumer friendly and nobody would have an issue. Like the Skyword Sword rerelease. The game came out in 2011 for $50-$60. If the Switch remastered was priced at $30 there would be no animosity.
The biggest issue with the Sonic Origins debacle is that they intentionally pulled a rockstar games and removed the original ports of the games from digital stores just so the unaware consumer could purchase their “shiny new edition”. Each game was $5 and you could experience all the games in their original forms for half the price and get the same experience tbh. Even though I still think $40 for Origins is steep it would be the worst thing if the alternative was still available for people

I have the Christian Whitehead remakes on my phone so I can play them first hand and the Origins versions are basically better versions of it.
I do agree with the fact that these games are really damn old and shouldn't cost this much, which is why I'm waiting for a sale instead of buying it day 1.
Besides all the goodies like mods will come later anyway.
And yeah screw Nintendo's 60€ ports honestly. Atleast SEGA actually lowers the price of their games over time.
Like the Dark Side, mirror mode is a pathway to many abilities that just feel _unnatural._
Aside from the scummy artificial "DLC" gimmick, this collection looks beautiful. I'm just happy to have Sonic 3 and Knuckles on my Switch. If they do future DLC, playing as Amy and Metal Sonic would be awesome additions, since they're already featured in the cut scenes.

A "Buttery smooth" game with a "buttery smooth" port, nothing like having all this "buttery smooth" content by having a nice "buttery smooth" gallery on top of a "buttery smooth" menu. I had a blast playing through the "buttery smoothness" of the controls and framerate, the music just gives this "buttery smooth" vibe that everyone can enjoy, a true "buttery smooth" masterpiece of a game.

That thing about keeping your rings after a special stage in Sonic 2 is not a glitch, that's been a thing since 1994 when you locked Sonic 2 onto Sonic & Knuckles to make Knuckles in Sonic 2. They just rarely did it like that in future ports of Sonic 2.
The Senoue Massicre of 2022. If it's chiptune he's AWFUL at it, just like Sonic 4. The only reason his work sounded good on the Genesis was because other members of the team probably fixed the soundfont lmao

As a huge and OG fan of Sonic, I have always wanted to play his classic games on my console, but it was only available for PS3 and Xbox 360 on consoles like Xbox and Playstation. When I heard Sonic Origin's announcement, I was super duper excited. For me, Sonic Origins is a wish come true to me.

I bought the game on steam and i can say it's GREAT. I haven't encountered any issues with the and it feels pretty good
I think the collection is fantastic and definitely worth the money. I just hope they release a physical version so more people pick it up.
After fully completing Origins on Switch just yesterday, I can say it is my favorite way to play these games, especially since we finally have Sonic 3&K back cus it's my favorite game in the series. Even though the music for Sonic 3 was replaced, I actually enjoy the new tracks a lot. (Yeah, even the new Super Sonic theme, I said it.) And the only glitch I ever encountered was the rubble glitch in Marble Garden Act 1, which is a relief after what I've heard about the bugs. Thankfully most of my problems stem less from the remasters and more so from how Sega handled the collection. (things like the price and the chart.) Although it would be nice to have things like multiple saves for Sonic 1, 2 and CD, new playable characters and new games, I'm hoping that the DLC being teased through those surveys could fix those though. A good collection altogether, I had a good time!
I’m upset about the original 3 & K MJ music not being in the game, the prototype versions aren’t as good and don’t fit as well
Plus the prototype music they used is worse than the original prototype music
Why can’t they get this issue sorted out so they can use the release versions, these versions don’t fit as well and the tone and feeling isn’t the same at all.
IK there are still versions with the original music and origins will have mods on pc (and the music is online) but still it’s not ideal
I am at least glad CD still lets you select the soundtrack versions
Also I wish they had included other games as well as have other options like playing 3 or sonic and knuckles on their own and maybe a few more modes or something (perhaps even a few more characters even as just skins)
the licensing company that held the copyrights for all of Jackson's music has dragged their feet quite intensely ever since the investigations post mortem began. the last time we ever saw the original jackson music was in the rom dlc release available for Steam in the Sega Genesis Collection.

Small thing, but what I REALLY love is how they used the soundtracks and sound effects recorded from the real hardware as opposed to emulated. Sounds so good with the Mega Drive distortion.

@@Hamster_Pants i mess with a ym2612 emulator like daily. the sound of those tracks is completely off. not to mention theyre quieter than the rest of the game's tracks. even if they ARE earlier version, it makes no sense to use them. and the super sonic theme is one hundred percent some kind of garbage midi arrangement.
@@remix7345 the super sonic them was the only track actually made for origins by Jun. you can tell because it’s the only sonic 3 song to use the sonic 1/2 drums. Any song with the proper S3 drums is the prototype.

I don't have a clue why people are complaining about it. As someone who's played these games many times in the past, they've never looked or played better. I'm playing on Switch, and there are no issues in my playing experience. The only gripe I have is the 3 Sonic 3 songs they replaced, which wouldn't even have been that bad if they replaced them with something GOOD. Oh, and placing Sonic CD between 1&2 which frankly feels odd, but whatever. And I've just found the mission mode and all new Blue Spheres levels. This is a complete package, there's never been a better way to play these games.
I think this is the definitive way to play the classic games
Actually, the music of Sonic 3 & Knuckles isn't new, they're the soundtrack of the Windows 95 port. Although I feel like the "unpolished" prototype soundtrack was superior than these new tracks.

Fun fact: the songs that replaced CN, IC, & LB are remixed prototype Sonic 3's music for the respective zones using the Sonic and Knuckles Collection's versions instrumentation.
I actually think the prototype's instrumentation is superior to the Sonic and Knuckles collection to Origins instrumentation especially CN.

The "new" music for Carnival Night Zone, Ice Cap Zone, and Launch Base Zone is actually just a remixed version of the music used in the original PC version of Sonic 3&K.
Apparently some people are saying frame rates are even an issue which is crazy if true.
I got 2 versions Switch and Steam. But my Steam version is basically unplayable because of the lag. Hopefully it gets fixed
Sonic Origins is easily, without a doubt the absolute best Classic Sonic collection of all time thus far, possibly the best Sonic collection in general. I'm very satisfied with the final product.

@@alegamer_real I respect your opinion, most certainly. I just personally think that Sonic Origins is better. It has the Drop Dash in every game, you can retry special stages, you can restart acts, etcetera. It has the definitive versions of these games.
About the music thing at the sonic 3, that is easily overcome with mods now, there is already a mod to change the music back, Recommend it, it makes your experience the best it makes it a near perfection 2D sonic game in my opinion.
the insta-shield lets you turn after a roll, so why can't the drop dash? it keeps the feature in while still letting you use the drop dash effectively

Some people thought that the classic Sonic 2D formula has reached its limits, but what the Mania team proves day after day that they are so Passionate and they can deliver so many creative ideas if they are given the chance, mission mode is awesome and way better than what I expected and if they work one day on Sonic Mania 2 they should include it with all new ideas, I like the boss rush and the mirror mode, I didn’t play them yet but I know I will enjoy the boss rush, and I will hate the mirror one but I appreciate adding it to the game, extra content to enjoy after finishing the game is always a plus for me, I love Sonic Origins yes the music are awful in comparison to the originals but still this game is made with love, and I give all the credit to the team working on it not Sega, I am super excited for a DLC maybe they can add more missions, playable Amy, Sonic Spinball, 3D blast, Knuckles chaotic and more.
The songs in sonic 3 aren’t new. They’re the original songs for those zones from the beta. I actually like them better, they sound more like the other zones.
What are the chances of getting the music from Sonic 3 and Knuckles from the genesis as DLC. BTW I love Ice Cap Zone as well.

Drop Dash in 1 & 2 works like the roll, which has deceleration and you can only move in one horizontal direction.

Honestly? It feels good to play the whitehead ports of Sonic 1, CD, and 2 on something other than mobile. And this is how i experienced Sonic 3K for the first time, yes i know i should have probably experienced it sooner. For the levels with the music changed i just put on some earphones with the OG tracks playing on a UA-cam video, after i did that i did give the new tracks a shot, and they are just ok, not horrible just weird and they feel sort of out of place, like if a game played a happy song during a sad moment, it felt that strange, overall tho, the package is good with the extras it comes with, overpriced? Yes definitely, at least in my opinion, but it was a nice way to spend Sonic’s 31 years of existing, and i know this game will probably be the Sonic Mega Collection of new fans for their childhoods, bringing new fans into the series, especially those on the Switch version…
Any lag tests done yet? The MMX Legacy Collection suffered horribly from lag and I'd be curious to see how well this collection holds up against the PS2 collection on that front.
Edit: The PS2 MMX collection had far less lag for its SNES ports and if I recall none for the PS1 titles, for comparison.

Quick question, is this your first time hearing the original music? The prototype versions were okay, but the Origins versions of the prototype music was... Questionable.
I pre-ordered the deluxe version on Steam only to have it crash just after the autosave prompt came up. I wish I could give my own review, but unfortunately Denuvo is just fucking up the experience for me. I should be getting a better PC soon, so hopefully I can play it then, but it's good to see that people are enjoying it right now.

The problem I have with Sonic 2 is when Tails gets stuck somewhere, he doesn't respawn off-screen until I reach a boss, so I can't use his flying ability for assistance. Well, at least for the Switch. I dunno if any platforms have this problem.
That is literally the only glitch I've found in the game. No idea what all the other so-called glitches are supposed to be. I guess if the Sonic fandom finds ONE glitch they want to hang everyone at sega :/
