Bosses are already insanely unforgiving with the lack of rings in the 8-bit games, the GG screen crunch is just very cruel.
Actually, some of the Sonic 1 and Sonic Chaos bosses are easier with it.
Only really in Sonic 2 GG. Chaos and Triple Trouble, not really.
Skill issue
Wut.
There were tons and tons of rings everywhere in the video though?
@@soaringstars314 Bad programming issue.
My issue is that 3D Blast and Knuckles Chaotix are missing from this collection. Now I get not everyone likes those games for various reasons, but they still a part of the classic era.
3D Blast is already available in the Sega Genesis Collection for all systems. (Including Switch.)
I don't see the harm in adding Knuckles Chaotix. Mainstream or not, it should at least be in it.
Or the Megaplay versions of sonic 1 for arcade or any of the Arcade Sonic games that all was called segasonic yes alot of those was barely 5 mins long Mini games but there still part of the series.
3D Blast is already in another collection. And 32X emulation is a pain in the ass.
@@Mahdi12 This might upset some people, but the reason Knuckles' Chaotix never got a rerelease is probably.... because the game is really bad.
Many people never played the game, and the majority of the people who did don't want to play it again. There's just not enough demand for a Knuckles' Chaotix rerelease.
I played a lot of the 8-bit Sonics on the Wii, they were basically my introduction to retro gaming. Also feeling a bit shafted when they're pushed aside for the Game Gear versions :/
I wonder if perhaps they are/could save other iterations/versions of these franchise games from other platforms ie wii, gba, etc. for additional/alternative compilations later in a few years down the line. And yeah Wii was great to have backwards compatibilities on offer to experience before, was introduced/replayed to some retro goodness also.
Yep. Even playing a game gear title now still feels odd. Take for example Arena, I love this game, but god damn they did not design the controls well. Screen clearance isn't as bad of a problem, but it's still a bit annoying. I am however leaning how to code here and there to maybe make some sort of unofficial remake for the future. I know I'm using it as a template when I make my top-down shooter
Not to mention 3d Blast.
Finally someone said it but for me the fact that the original music for 3 and knuckles is still not back is also a big problem
Sadly the music may never return. Unless an agreement is made, and parties involved are satisfied
I honestly wish that the music we grew up with was intact instead. This also hinders me from picking up this collection
Especially when it was outright stated that copyright wasn't an issue. Even SEGA was baffled by the choice to use the prototype tracks.
I can't see the original tracks coming back, but they could at LEAST make the prototype tracks they used not sound like absolute ass.
@@DarkAura19 I saw at the end of the Sonic Origins Plus trailer that there was something about “Classic Music”. Now, I’m not sure if that means they’re adding more music to the Museum or if the original S3&K tracks are coming back. I’m hoping it’s the latter unless they specify otherwise.
(Also, unrelated, but can I assume you’re a Mega Man Star Force fan from your profile picture?)
"Still not back"? Not sure why you were under the impression they were coming back...
A minor error: Sonic chaos was actually designed for the game gear, however there are a few noticeable differences between the two versions (especially the music)
Both versions of the game were in development at the same time, and the SMS version actually started development first.
Aqua Planet's music changes in each version.
@@Turbulation1 I didn't know that!
Same with blast.
Sonic Chaos is honestly a really good game and I’m glad it’s coming back! It seems like people are too hyper focused on smaller screen resolution and not so much the game themselves, because even Triple Deluxe and Tails’ Adventure are such under appreciated gems in the series.
Yeah, I had Sonic 2 on Game Gear, and it was freaking miserable. I only passed the first boss once, and after that, I got lost in Zone 2, the one with the glider, and I just couldn't play it anymore.
It's not the screen crunch, some things were unfair, like the hanglider controls, and the tube final stages.
I never even made it past that boss. I hated that game so much. And this being pre-Internet, I didn’t even know how I was supposed to beat that boss.
The game was so depressing that Sonic constantly tried to self destruct into lava. Robotnik was the good guy in this version of the story.
@@Mikewee777 only thing that makes the game worth playing is getting to hear an 8-bit version of the Japanese Sonic CD theme song in the third Zone.
For me the biggest problem was the lack of knuckles' chaotix.
I think you’ve unknowingly hit the head on the nail when you said “BRAZIL”. Ever since Brazil entered the picture they’ve been hands off master system I’m noticing
the reason sega doesn't want to release their master system rom is actually because tec toy took all the MS cartridges and hid them in brazil
They did release some of the MS games on the Wii though.
What
I was not aware of that detail! They always find a way to find missed opportunities.
Sega doing a Sega
More like fans always finding something to complain about.
@@kevin_kevinson I love Sonic but I do not like the fans sometimes.
@@benmalsky9834 oh shut up and stop licking the corporate boot. It's not the fans fault that Sega is always taking easily avoided missteps. Fans have every right to use their voice when there's some obvious bullshit afoot, you just need to not take it personally when they do.
@@kevin_kevinson. People WILL find a way to complain about something.
That first boss on Game Gear has another difference, the bombs have a few different patterns in the Game Gear version but in the Master System version the bombs always go from lowest to highest bounce
THANK YOU for this video! I've trying to explain this to my pals countless times, with this video they've finally got the idea.
That first boss in sonic 2 for game gear took me so many tries as a kid. I was happy to hear that they decided to add extra games in but it’s just a weird decision to not include the master system versions of those games.
It's not weird, they did it before. All these Game Gear games had been included in past collections as well (Sonic Mega Collection Plus, Sonic Gems Collection, Sonic Adventure DX, etc.). The Sega Master System versions are not included cause they are not popular, it's the same reason why Sega always include the inferior Sega Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast in these kind of collection over the superior but less popular Sega Saturn version. To Sega, the Genesis and Game Gear are more popular than the Master System and the Saturn hence why these Sonic games are from those two systems only.
That first boss wouldn't have been so bad if it was possible to retry from the Zone you get a game over in. I did not enjoy having to replay that first boss again and again even though I knew it was possible to beat him, because even if you could slightly better at beating it, actually beating it felt so inconsistent, and relied significantly on luck because you couldn't see the attack pattern. So, most of my experience playing the game was wasting most of my lives beating the first boss, then getting a game over in the second zone and doing it all over again. I wanted to experience the rest of the game, not become super-efficient at beating a poorly designed boss fight. It was so frustrating fighting it as Sonic that I would often just select Tails so I could fly to that secret spot and collect the coins before the boss. Then I could take as many hits as I want in order to brute force my way through.
@@VOAN now that screams of a company who doesnt care for its fans, where ever you are the world doesnt revolve around you, the master system games were massive in the uk you're logic is awful
Master System Sonic 1 was literally the first videogame I can ever remember playing.
While I've gotten a bit of a kick out of the Game Gear ports over the years it would be quite nice to re-experience that closer to how it was when I first held a controller.
As someone who’s first console was the Master System and therefore the MS Sonic 1 & 2 were his first experiences with the series, I wholeheartedly agree…😢
A lack of Sonic 3D Blast, the 16 bit versions of Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Sonic Spinball,Sonic R,Sonic The Fighters and Knuckles Chotix is also a missed opportunity.
I actually prefer Sonic on the Master System over the Mega Drive as that’s the version I had as a kid and more of a platform game and was so excited to hear Game Gear versions coming as had always assumed they were exactly the same as Master System as that’s what a friend told me back in the day. Not to sure now, but still on my list of games to buy
While the game gear screen crunch is groan worthy as always, I'm honestly more concerned on if they'll properly fix all the oodles of issues still remaining in regular Origins, and more importantly, if those fixes will be FREE. Cannot tell you how much it sucked to hear from Stealth about how mishandled Origins was, and I just want this time to be an indication of them giving the team the time they wanted, on top of fixing the issues Sonic Team didn't fix porting over Taxman's builds.
Sense they're updating the digital game finally, as well, hopefully everything is fixed.
They have done tons of fixes. The idea that the issues have gone unpatched is a complete myth. The games run perfectly well, and frankly, they were already serviceable at launch. I played through all four games multiple times with no issues.
They are fix but some minor bugs could still be found. They are minor cause unless you actually and purposely play to try to find them and compare them to the originals then you'll notice but if you're playing blindly and enjoying it then you would had no problem with the games. They're fine, just not the definitive versions we should had gotten.
They are saving those Master System Rooms for Sonic Origins Plus *Plus.* You'll have to pay an extra 20 dollars of course.
The one possibility I hope for is that they have emulation wizards like M2 working on this, and possibly use some tricks to alleviate it, like adding a 'full screen' mode like some fan emulators like Fusion done. That potentially could be the best of both worlds, having Master System's screen resolution but Game Gear's larger colour palette.
this is like if we got smb deluxe (or like the super mario advance games) in a 2d mario collection instead of the originals lmao
Until the SNES Mini and Switch Online, that was the case with Yoshi's Island/Super Mario Advance 3. For whatever reason only the GBA version was re-released for a while whether it be 3DS or Wii U, and the game just didn't appear at all on Wii VC (my guess is they just didn't include Super FX with their SNES emulation for a while, which Yoshi's Island uses).
@@legoboy7107 huh, i didn't know that actually!
that's pretty interesting, thanks for the info!
@@legoboy7107 Seems to be something about Super FX, since Star Fox and FX Racers didn’t appear either.
@@Victini7472 No problem!
Arguably, the Deluxe and Advance games were pretty good, and the screen crunch wasn't too big an issue.
Im angry with them not re-releasing chaotix it has never been re-released, would have made me rush to buy origins plus.
Thanks for this video. I was thinking of finally buying Sonic Origins but had forgotten about the Master System versions, even though those are the ones I'm most familiar with. Fingers crossed for another update I guess?
Paying 10$ for some Game gear roms already in other collections is just crazy. Id expect the MS versions at the very least and honestly for that price drop in a 3d blast and spinball rom. Would also love to see sonic r and sonic the fighters
the "other collections" are all on much older consoles that most of the audience for this game likely don't have
@@TackyRackyComixNEO Sonic Mega Collection Plus has a PC version you can get that with ease.
@@TackyRackyComixNEOdude where are these mythical people, this magical “modern audience” hiding? It’s fucking bullshit. Name one person alive who is dying to play Sonic Game Gear games but doesn’t possess a single way of playing Sonic Mega Collection or Sonic Adventure DX because they binned all their old consoles and don’t play on PC. They don’t exist.
The target audience for this game is the precise people who don’t need it at all but figure “what the heck, that’d be nice to have I guess”. Then they complain about all the issues with the ports and the Game Gear ROMs online and give this shovelware free publicity.
@@lafbkhope5391 You can't get that with ease cause it's not on Steam anymore, Sega delisted any and all older versions of Sonic games from all digital storefronts in favor of the Sonic Origins collection. Unless you already have it before Sega's delisting spree, you won't be able to get it anymore. Also newer PC and laptops don't have disc drive anymore either so even if it got a physical version on PC, the modern player will still not be able to play it.
@@VOAN Sonic Mega Collection Plus never had a Steam release. It was pure physical PC release which you can easily download on the internet these days.
I thought you were gonna say that they didn't include the 16-bit version of Sonic Triple Trouble, then I remembered that was a fan game.
Speaking of,would you guys at GVG ever consider covering fan made games?
a VERY good fangame
It’s insane how good Triple Trouble is lol
After seeing that fan game, this collection blows. 🙄 that fan game needs to be a real official game
They still haven't fixed the blurry scaling :(
This was very interesting and it seems about as close as you can get to an objective "this version is better than this version" in gaming
Sonic 2 Game Gear with save states on 3DS is still such a challenge, really does suffer from the screen crunch!
You know there have been fan conversations of triple trouble to master system and it came out looking alright
I agree. I always wanted the Master System version for each of this games.
Nice video, cool to learn that master system had most of the same games but easier to see/play. I hope they add those roms in the future. 🍻
The UA-cam autogenerated closed captioning put in perenthases "(foreign)" before you started speaking, Jon. I'm so sorry.
Would love if they included a port of the Sega Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast. It really is the best version of the game but load times on original hardware are irritating. Including a good port would be a welcome addition.
As a mini consoles collector myself, I really wish for a Master System mini, I was kind of upset when they announced the Genesis mini 2, because I think master system would have been so much better
I was a Sonic pro as a kid and went round a friends house and played Sonic on their game gear for the first time. That first boss with the slope and the balls shocked me because I had no idea what to do, you couldn't even see where the balls were coming from. I obviously couldn't do it.
Another glaring issue with this "DLC content" is that they could have included the Genesis versions of Spinball and 3D blast, as well as the elusive Knuckles Choatix and Sonic Arcade game to fully complete the package. I mean, the gamegear games are neat, but the only reason they existed was to be able to play a port of the console version on the go. Now that we have the Nintendo Switch; it is a moot point because the console version themselves can be played on the go. They still only doing the bare minimum here and expect another $10 to an previously overpriced collection (had these games been included at launch, and then they give us the rest of the Genesis, 32X and Arcade game; then it would have been justified).
segasonic could be problematic with it's control layout
This is so close to being a definitive sonic game collection, but all these little things hold it back and basically require mods to fix.
its not even close to being one
@@sangan3202 Literally ^ The Sonic CD port is awful, and Sonic 3 is even worse with its janked physics...
@@sangan3202 it had the potential to being the definitive collection, but SEGA had to screw it up because their executives would rather rush their devs to push out a game faster than to take their time with the game and let them give it the love it deserves.
and then of course you also have the input lag, blurry screen filter, lack of lives (unless your on classic), etc
SEGA basically took everything that made Christian Whitehead and Stealth's 2011/13 ports faithful to the original and made them worse all for the sake of prioritizing profits over getting a proper QA department to debug/test their game.
3:50 "It's not a very convincing argument for options." See, I think this Game Gear thing is just a symptom of the real problem with Origins: lack of options.
Rather than fluid options for resolution, lives or coins, moves, timer etc. you just get "play in anniversary mode or classic mode"
The Game Gear versions are the canonical versions because SEGA said so, and we just have to deal with it.
100% this. I'm European and played the ms version but was baffled why I had so much trouble with boss 1 of sonic 2. When I finally emulated the ms version I did it first time after 30 odd years. Gg version sucks and I'll likely skip the origins plus version. I even refunded origins because I wasn't happy with it and instead emulated all the games with retroachievements for an added challenge.
Sonic Origins Plus is a masterclass in making a collection that doesn't add enough value.
I actually have both versions of Sonic1 8bit and luckily I have the MasterGear Converter for my GameGear.
The GG version is brutal because of that first boss.
I’m sure after that the game is really fun right?
The Master Gear doesn't reduce the visibility of the games?
@@benmalsky9834 It's a solid game.
Clearly I wouldn't put it above the 16bit games or even Sonic Triple Trouble for that matter but yes, past the first boss it's a good game.
@@MegaManNeo So I don’t understand what the big deal is. It honestly feels like Sonic fans are ALWAYS looking for something to complain about instead of being grateful for what we get.
@@benmalsky9834 Fans complain a lot, indeed.
Especially Sonic ones but this first boss is really hard to predict in the GameGear version.
To this day I haven't manage to defeat it in said version.
My problem with it is that Master System Sonic 1 has some of the emeralds in different places and the final boss is different from the Game Gear version
The Sonic 2 case is even worse on Game Gear because your own footage shows that the GG version of that first boss _randomizes_ the ball patterns. So it's not just harder for screen crunch, you legitimately have no idea what the game is going to throw at you each and every run; there's nothing to memorize too readily.
they must have fixed it for sms, on sms you can just stand in the same place
The other problem seems to be that not all the GG included games were released on Master System so you'd end up with a mix between both formats.
There is actually a Master System port for Sonic Drift 2. You can thank TecToy, the company responsible for selling Master System consoles in Brazil, for that. Unfortunately, not many people outside Brazil seem to know that fact, since I cannot find a single mention of that SMS port that isn't in portuguese.
TecToy is a treasure, they literally sell Master Systems to this day.
What I dont understand is why spinball and 3d blast from the genesis Era aren't in
Jon is an international treasure
Clown you mean
The Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection had almost every version of every game in the series, so I have little sympathy for Sonic Origins here. For these 12 games, it should bare minimum have both the Master System and Game Gear versions. IDEALLY, you'd get the Genesis versions of games too, but at least those are probably on consoles by other means (either the Genesis Collection or NSO)
I never understood this either and it really infuriates me. I loved the Master System games back in the day, but the Game Gear versions are inferior and it boggles the mind that a collection that claims to be the ultimate way to play these classics comes shipped with the inferior ones.
I’m just starting-but I’m guessing that this has to do with the lack of the Master System versions of the Game Gear games
Edit: YEEEEEAAAAHHH
Still have hope for the Master system versions to show up at some point on an update or as a unlockable as in the old times 👌
3:57 I was today years old that I found out that Sonic 2 MS/GG had Chaos Emeralds. All the more reason we should have gotten MS in Origins Plus.
Hey John. It is nice to hear you again after your time from Gamexplain & Nintendolife. Hope things are doing well again.
I'm sure they could give the 8-bit games the love they deserve without too much trouble, even slightly extend the screen resolution like in the rest of the collection. It's so sad that they likely never will!
Yeah Sega really does need to utilize their master system library. For me, this is a console I grew up with. I heard it wasn't as popular in the US as the NES, but people sure are discovering its amazing quality game library now.
We all know the reason they never consider Master System is because they always have the US as the main target audience, and since the Master System was barely known there, the 8 but Sonic games are just a footnote to them.
Not really related to Game Gear things, but man, it's such a missed opportunity to not have stuff like SegaSonic the Hedgehog in the compilation as well. We almost got a rerelease of the game with Gems Collection, but we've still yet to see one. That would also shed more light onto Mighty and Ray after Mania Plus and all ;_;
Great video, and great point about the Master System versions being easily preferable. I'd take it a step further and say that these versions should be lightly remade just like the 16-bit games. They should remake the Master System versions with original assets at 16:9. Remaking would be a good opportunity to smooth out the frame rate and unjank the controls a bit. The remakes are the appeal of Sonic Origins, so I'm not sure why that practice is getting scrapped with these 8-bit versions.
Probably because reverse engineering and remaking ONE entire game in the Retro Engine in a new aspect ratio with usually many tweaks, fixes and content additions is an extremely time consuming process, basically akin to making a brand new game from scratch, let alone for 12 whole games. Remember that Sega somehow managed to rush S3&K's remaster as is. I'd much rather that Retro Engine effort was spent on adding to the existing games like with the Knuckles/Amy stuff than even more games needing to be fixed.
You're basically asking them to put some efforts and money into remaking all the GG Sonic games which you know they're not gonna do. Why should they when the fans could do it for them and for free?
@@VOAN Plus I'm not sure the demand was there for them to want to remake the GG games in Retro Engine like it was with S3&K. Fans have made equivalents, but not nearly as many as people seem to ask Sega for them or other games like 3D Blast.
Remember that three out of four of the base games are mobile ports. Remaking 12 other games from the ground up would be time consuming., not to mention the graphics aren't meant to be "upscaled", as they're 8 bit games from 30 years ago.
That screen crunch nearly ruined my experience of Sonic 2 on the Game Gear as a kid. Was it worth it as an adult buying a genesis power base converter to finally play Sonic 2 without that anxiety? Absolutely
To be quite frank, when compared to collections like Atari 50th Anniversary, there's no reason Sonic Orgins shouldn't be expected to have every major version of every classic Sonic game.
Every Master System version of the 8 bit games, the Genesis versions of Spinball and Mean Bean Machine, etc.
My problems with Sonic Origins Plus don't just boil down to the bonus games. It also has to do with how Sega is basically putting bandages over a sloppy product. Sure, playable Amy is really cool and the fact there are any 8-Bit Sonic games at all is also cool. But they are still keeping the tacked on coins crap for the "anniversary" mode and not making the "no-lives" mode... just a toggle for both aspect ratios. Not to mention the whole Sonic 3 beta music debacle.
There's also the fact that that Sega is releasing this product on the same date they released the original vanilla version of Origins last year. Clearly, they learned nothing from rushing a game for an anniversary. But hey, if it gets a 9 out of 10, they don't have to learn from their mistakes aside from remedying the "new playable characters" lie the vanilla Origins was infamous for. And the fact that the sloppy vanilla Origins got such high review scores from places like IGN and GameSpot is insulting!
Sure, the Vanilla Origins is a passable way to play the Retro engine remakes of Sonic 1, 2, and CD, as well as finally getting a Retro engine remake of Sonic 3&Knuckles, but the package it's presented in is so sloppy and has a badly implemented coins mechanism, as well as the whole Sonic 3 Beta music debacle... and Sega is just polishing the sloppiness by including Amy and Game Gear games, after getting away with it the first time.
Also, just because i feel like driving another one home, why is 8-Bit Sonic Spinball one of the bonus games? The Genesis game is far superior and even then it's not that great.
Oh shit, now I remember that bouncing ball boss from my childhood. I tried to repress that memory.
Great video John! Even though I didn't own a Master System, the screen crunch for the Game Gear versions is likely going to make playthroughs a bit annoying. Nice that they're adding Amy as a playable character and it's great that we're getting a physical release but I wish that I foresaw Sega rereleasing this game physically before I bought it. Oh well...😅
The reason why Game Gear games had that screen crunch perspective was to give players a more focus view of play on the handheld. Without it, you'll be seeing screen tearing and buggy artifacts in the game from time to time.
@@VOAN But we have modern screens with modern resolutions so why use the gamer gear versions instead of the Master system versions
It kind of annoys me how no matter how many times they rerelease these games there’ll never be a truly “definitive version” of these collections without a mod or two of some sort, since there always seems to be a hitch or compromise with SEGA’s decisions
The problem with Sonic Origins Plus is no Knuckles Chaotix
This is definitely something worth mentioning, however my main issue is that Origins still isn't a very good collection in terms of faithfully replicating these games with some minor technical updates. Instead, it's a very buggy collection with blurry image quality, input lag (on PC) and muffled music for Sonic 3. I can't justify giving them any more money when the original product they released is still broken, even after some small patches last year (which as far as I know, were mostly to fix fatal errors that crashed the game outright, and not all the other gameplay problems). It's really a bit sad that an official Sonic product cannot compete with a free fanmade remaster like Sonic 3 AIR.
For me, one of the major let down is that the gallery menu is muted without background music. Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube, the Galllery menu has a soothing memorable background music. The change of Sonic 3/Knucles soundtrack is hard to accept. Now the ability to play Tails, Knuckles and amy on some of the classic games when they didnt exist is really cool. I just cant get over the Gallery mode been muted without background music
I'm convinced the whole reason they did it this way is for parity with the other 8-bit games. They want them all to look the same so you don't have people asking why 1 version is in widescreen and the other is crunched.
I agree for the most part, but I actually prefer game gear Sonic 1. It fixes Jungle Zone act 2, which is by far the worst level in the master system version. In the master system version the bottom of the screen kills you, but in game gear it doesn't.
It also adjusts all the boss fights to work with the smaller screen, which lets you use faster strategies to kill them, in my opinion this makes them more enjoyable. The game is slower paced compared to other sonic games so having a smaller screen size doesn't negatively affect the game too badly.
And this is just why emulation is needed. I mean, private emulation. Not official emulation.
More like True Facts gaming
I grew with the master system games, never played the gg ports, and oh God, I had no idea the screen crunch was so severe
While I do agree, there should be master system versions. Keep in mind that the GG version Sonic 1 and 2 has some minor tweaks that give those versions less bugs
What would that matter if you can't see where you're going half the time? :/
Another issue is that the Game Gear versions are kinda slightly more polished versions released later (for the most part at least), so Sega could see them as the "finished" versions. That and half the games of course were never on Master System and trying to create expanded aspect ratio approximations of that with a GG/MS emulator (or trying to make 50Hz-only versions of MS ports run in 60Hz) could just be too much to do for several entire games and/or defile the "authenticity" in how these games are supposed to be represented in Sega's eyes, and otherwise would just be inconsistent between half the games having Master System versions only.
Finally someone said it. This was the first thing I thought of, but nobody else seemed to notice for days (I looked)
I thought I was the only one that gave up on the first boss of Sonic 2 8-bit
0:36 "There was another system that received the exact same games as the Game Gear"
0:46 "It's worth noting not every game came to the Master System"
it's honestly impressive how quickly that contradiction came lmao
I was a little disappointed that the Neo Geo Pocket Color game isn’t included. WAY better than ALL of the Game Gear games COMBINED.
Silly good vibes, we get master system games with sonic origins plus EX
I don't mind it too much, would it have been nice to have the Master System versions of Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos? Yeah, but we're at least still getting them. Not to mention they probably figured it'd be easier just to port a bunch of GG titles than just picking and choosing specific versions. Although it definitely would be easy to do so. I definitely think ports of 3D Blast and Knuckles' Chaotix would've sweetened the deal a bit more. After all it does feel a little odd that they're a part of the DLC as an OST but that's it.
Having Amy be playable is also really cool, although I feel like we could've at least gotten Metal Sonic as well to finish off the playable characters.
I have even more problems. Why the Game Gear versions of Spinball and Mean Bean Machine and not the Genesis versions? Also, why not also include Fighters, R, SegaSonic, and Knuckles Chaotix?
I hope SEGA keeps adding more to Sonic Origins, for me if they made Metal Sonic as a playable character and bring more classic games (especially knuckles and the chaotics) this bundle will be more than satisfying to me. I want to say that I hope they bring the original soundtrack for Sonic 3 but maybe that is still debatable.
I feel like sonic origins plus should be a dlc as some people already have sonic origins
Game gear antlion is ironically one of the hardest 2d sonic bosses and its the first 1
It doesn’t matter to me which version they use because I don’t like playing the 8 bit sonic games. They are really laggy and just don’t feel good to play. I wish that they would work on making Christian Whitehead style remakes of them instead and we can get them actually playable.
Welcome newcomers, to the Sonic 2 Game Gear Under Ground Zone Boss PTSD ward!
Once populated by 90s kids across the US, now a whole new generation gets to live the frustration of one of the dumbest design choices in video game history!
Simple fix from UltraSTH:
Anniversary Mode: Master System
Classic Mode: Game Gear
Definitely hurts not having the master system version of those two games, but their are free remakes of those on the internet as well which are even android compatible
I feel like I'm the only Sonic fan - casual or otherwise - who isn't actively looking for things to complain about in regards to Sonic Origins Plus.
For that matter, I seem to be the only one who actually LIKED the base version of Sonic Origins in any capacity.
Come on, people, I'm really enjoying Sonic 3 & Knuckles after playing it for the very first time this year as part of Origins. It's actually living up to the thirty plus years of fanboy hype, and that NEVER happens with me when I play any sort of highly coveted video game, so don't go tearing that down for me, alright?
Seriously, I want to believe you're better than that, fellow Sonic fans. I'm still relatively new to this fandom and I am yet to have a genuinely bad experience in relation to any of you, which is more than I can say for a lot of OTHER fandoms I'm a part of... Not mentioning any NAMES, Crash Bandicoot and Pokémon!
Totally agree on this one. GG and SMS share the same architecture, so even the ones that aren't SMS games could be converted by someone who knows what they are doing.
I thought the michael jackson music would be back for sure
The entire appeal of Sonic origins for me is that you can finally play these games in widescreen giving you much more time to react with what is coming towards you as you run at top speed. why can't these games be remade to work on a 16 by 9 aspect ratio letting you see more real estate on the screen giving you more time to react and plan your course of action?
I swear Sega has forgotten the Master System even existed. I genuinely couldn't believe it when they they said Game Gear... again.
It would def be best if they included master system rom versions for the games that have that version. Sonic Triple Trouble doesn't have an official master system release unfortunately.
The moment he mentioned the SEGA Master System I knew where this was going...
I do remember playing that Sonic 2 game on the Game Gear. A friend of mine had it and neither he or I ever made it past that first boss.
I think people are more mad because other reasons like the wierd preorder tier they did before launch, the lack of mj music in sonic 3, buying unfinished ports (especially sonic 3 and knuckles) and the lack of amy and making her paid dlc when they said in the original trailer that’s we gonna get “new characters”.
Yesssss call out the lack of Master System! It's bullshit, it's just as easy to emulate and they're BLATANTLY BETTER.
my 8-bit sonic thought will always be that Bridge Zone's theme rules, so you've already addressed that in the video
Fortunately, there is a pretty neat Origins-like fan remake of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 for the Master System on PC and Android, so I'd recommend that if you're interested in those games, although it does contain a number of differences to the original that may or may not improve the experience.
