This movie theater holds a special place in my heart and movie going experience. It was the first movie theater ever went to on own and saw Return of the Jedi. Not only did the movie blow me away, The architecture of the movie theater was like stepping into a museum of fine art.

I took my wife there to see Breakfast at Tiffany's for Valentine's Day several years ago. I loved the experience being a huge movie fan, but the theater was obviously struggling. This restoration gives me so much joy. Others I'd recommend are obviously El Capitan and the Chinese, plus the HUGE Fox Theater (Regency Westwood Village), Bruin (Regency right across the street), the Cinerama Dome (Arc Light), the Aero, New Beverly, Nuart, and the Vista. I'm sure I'm missing a couple. But there some really great and historic places to watch a movie in and around LA.

As an egyptian it makes me happy as this theatre was opened before the wave of using ancient egyptian desings that occured after king tut’s tomb was discovered , thats for the history but for the cinema the First movie theatre in america was the vitascope hall in louisiana 1896 , first movie theatre in egypt was in 1897 in alexandria this trailer have rang so many satisfying bells for me ❤

If it weren't for NetFlix this theatre would probably be gone. The American Cinematheque ultimately couldn't support it by themselves. Now NetFlix, in conjunction with the American CInematheque, are going to be bringing both new and classic films back to the streets of Hollywood. Thank you, NetFlix. I visited the theatre yesterday to see Maestro. The best trip to the movies I've been to in many years. The first movie I believe I saw there was...Jaws 2!

I had the pleasure of designing the fire sprinkler system for this project. Challenging and rewarding. A combination of new and old. It was a great project to be proud of.

Hey Netflix, I just wanted to reach out and encourage you to consider picking up Siren. As a fan of the show, I know how much it means to the community and how much potential it has for future seasons. I believe that Netflix could bring new life and a fresh perspective to the story, and I hope that you'll take this opportunity to give Siren the chance it deserves. Thanks for listening.

I'm sad that the Pig and Whistle restaurant was sold considering the architecture it shared with the Egyptian theater but besides that it is a beautiful restoration, and Im glad it's open again. Beautiful sound system as well, just a great theater. I'm glad Netflix didn't change too much, although I do wish the balcony seats remained.

  • @cliffchristie5865

This is my first look at the restoration and I have to admit it's a little jarring. I've lived here long enough to have gone to the Egyptian when it was still a first-run theater, then after the re-design for the Cinematheque - which took some getting used to. Now I'll be doing it again and very much wonder how that will feel. In both my hometown ( Omaha) and LA, I've seen many theaters come and go, but through three different incarnations, this will be unique.

It’s not the way it originally looked unfortunately the stage is very different indeed without the ornate columns and ornate surrounding of the stage but still I’m glad it’s still here and definitely not the way I remember it and proof is in the original photos !

Did they ever find the stolen jackal statues?
I know they were hidden in Merv Griffin's secret dressing room off the old Dance Fever stage at TAV but never heard if they were recovered before they got shipped out to a New York buyer.
