- The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex bordering present-day Giza in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact. Egyptologists conclude that the pyramid was built as a tomb for the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu and estimate that it was built in the 26th century BC during a period of around 27 years.

Initially standing at 146.5 meters (481 feet), the Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for more than 3,800 years. Over time, most of the smooth white limestone casing was removed, which lowered the pyramid's height to the present 138.5 meters (454.4 ft). What is seen today is the underlying core structure. The base was measured to be about 230.3 meters (755.6 ft) square, giving a volume of roughly 2.6 million cubic meters (92 million cubic feet), which includes an internal hillock. The dimensions of the pyramid were 280 royal cubits (146.7 m; 481.4 ft) high, a base length of 440 cubits (230.6 m; 756.4 ft), with a seked of 5.5 palms (a slope of 51°50'40").
The Great Pyramid was built by quarrying an estimated 2.3 million large blocks weighing 6 million tonnes in total. The majority of stones are not uniform in size or shape and are only roughly dressed. The outside layers were bound together by mortar. Primarily local limestone from the Giza Plateau was used. Other blocks were imported by boat down the Nile: White limestone from Tura for the casing, and granite blocks from Aswan, weighing up to 80 tonnes, for the King's Chamber structure.
There are three known chambers inside the Great Pyramid. The lowest was cut into the bedrock, upon which the pyramid was built, but remained unfinished. The so-called Queen's Chamber and King's Chamber, that contains a granite sarcophagus, are higher up, within the pyramid structure. Khufu's vizier, Hemiunu (also called Hemon), is believed by some to be the architect of the Great Pyramid. Many varying scientific and alternative hypotheses attempt to explain the exact construction techniques.
The funerary complex around the pyramid consisted of two mortuary temples connected by a causeway (one close to the pyramid and one near the Nile), tombs for the immediate family and court of Khufu, including three smaller pyramids for Khufu's wives, an even smaller "satellite pyramid" and five buried solar barges.

After watching this video I appreciate how lucky I was to have the entire journey inside the pyramid to the main chamber all by myself... this was in 1977. I was scared at the time entering the unknown ... literally on my own. It was very errie inside the main chamber and cold. My parents and brother did not want to come in. There was no other tourists around.. just a couple of men with camels and a guy trying to rent out his horse for bareback rides around the pyramids which my brother did. Not sure I would enjoy a tour there now with hundreds of other tourists. I was 17 at the time... probably couldn't make it up the long steep incline these days. Couldn't walk for 3 days after this visit. You need to be fit with strong thigh muscels. Amazing place...
Great read thank u for sharing

I'm so jealous! What I wouldn't give to be able to tour this privately!! What a blessing!
i'm hoping to go to luxor for the total solar eclipse in 2027 and then visit the pyramids as well. who knows, maybe i'll get lucky and have the pyramid of khufu all to myself.
I wonder if the builders so many years ago could have imagined that families with children would some day be climbing inside that marvelous monument.
The only reason I wouldn’t go to visit them is this.
LOL! thinking the same...
Interesting thing is nobody knows till date why these pyramids were built and what marvellous engineering has been used to built these pyramids......
@@ilyaskashmiri4903 We do know all of that. The pyramids were royal tombs and the construction was made with plans, ramps made out of clay and sand, and of course force.
They would've been pissed lol.
It’s upsetting to see all the names carved into the walls and damage that’s been done from the thousands upon thousands of hands that have touched every inch of that place. I wish I could travel back in time to the 60’s like some of the previous commenters so I could see it in better condition. I’ve always been so fascinated by the pyramids, but would be let down by all the other tourists ruining the experience.
No, everybody says you ruin it for them. Stay home!
you'd also be another tourist ruining the experience to someone else
I went in the smallest pyramid inside, people have graffitied all inside the pyramid. It was so sad to see
The other tourists would want you to stay home so that the crowd is less, you aren't special.
What about all the modern construction in there and electrical wires and what is behind the sarcofagh? AC?!
How in the actual hell did they stack those interior bricks at that angle 4000 years ago. Insane
This is always a secret, but you know something. As an Egyptian, I tell you this is not only puzzling. Every village in Egypt contains great antiquities and amazing collectibles that have not yet been displayed, and the Great Pyramid is not only the only mystery, but there are many.
@@Loai_BlackIts incredible how the ancient Egyptians managed to build such great structures without any machinery or advanced technology
@@ChuckStegall777 In fact, these are secrets that we have not been able to discover yet, and if you think that this is a miracle, look for the golden mask of King Tutankhamun and the statue of Queen Nefertiti, and there are things that are much more miraculous than the pyramid. Thank you, miss. ❤
Napoleon Bonaparte once at the base of the pyramid said "“From the heights of the Pyramids, forty centuries look down on us”. Thank you for posting the video sir as we now look at a marvel of engineering from our prehistory.

That’s not a tomb. That’s something way more significant. Absolutely stunning.
A tomb like this may not seem important to us now, but to the people who had these structures built, it was the most important task of their lives. It was everything to them and their immortality depended on it. Also, they were more than a tomb just like a cathedral is not simply a tomb for saints.

Thank you for sharing this video. It brings back memories from when I visited the Great Pyramid in summer of 2001. The pyramid is a fantastic accomplishment of ancient engineering. Even the obvious elements such as planning and logistics involved in constructing this structure were impressive achievements.
@K. K. The Pyramids were constructed by Aliens it's impossible for humans at that time to build a structure like that.
Thank you so much for recording this so the extremely claustrophobic among us can see it. I was having a panic attack just watching. 🙂 When I was in Egypt 13 years ago the inside of the Great Pyramid was still closed. But of all the wonders we saw, two particularly stand out. The first was Medinet Habu, the funerary temple of Ramses III. The other was Abu Simbel. It's a fascinating country everyone should visit.
Yep, I just took going inside off my bucket list. Just no. I’m glad someone filmed it for us.
I am not even claustrophobic I found it very uncomfortable too. And once you decided to climb there is no way of turning back... this is so suffocating. I am so glad I live in the age where I can watch these videos for free.
Among us
Yes indeed.....ua-cam.com/video/8LzuZrkEY18/v-deo.html
Fascinating that you can actually enter such a monument and apart from all the tourists, you're stepping back in time the further you travel. Incredible how this structure was constructed and whilst I know tourism is the lifeblood of this country, 90% of those visitors haven't a clue, nor even understand, what indeed they are experiencing. Absolutely stunning to see inside this and the granite sarcophagus, which, maybe today, wishes it was back in the dark and silence, like it was for countless centuries, with the many visitors it see's daily.
@@codyp.3191 what is the problem?
A bit patronising there pal. Relax.
I highly doubt that number is 90%, in fact, it's probably 20%. Only smaller children wouldn't have the perception of time. Anyone in their teens and up that is given how old this is, gets it. If you had older kids here, you would make sure they knew, wouldn't you?

Lucky to visit there 20 odd years ago. Few tourists. No camera/video phones! The Great Gallery felt like an illusion, was I going up or down? Very surreal. The Kings Chamber was empty when I crawled into it. Felt strangely peaceful. And a perfect cuboid size? Was weird, yet serene. Maybe because I was excited, combined with the heat of the day. At the end of the night Napoleon Bonaparte stayed in this pyramid, he came out of the pyramid with fear and trembling in the morning and said these words near his death: "Oh, what's the use, you won't believe even if I tell you what I saw" and after saying these, he went back to bed...

Unbelievably remarkable. This is very high on my list of places to visit. Seeing people sitting on the outside stones had me wondering what the peoples of those long past times would think. Both of us, and the city they started etc. I've seen interior 3d maps of the pyramid, but they don't quite convey just how steep that passage is. And then the chamber itself... it's a little humbling to think that it was meant to never be seen by human eyes ever again. And was for thousands of years. The heat has me wondering... is that just the heat from outside entering through the door and rising up into the chamber and getting stuck?
Thank you so much for sharing. It is a beautiful present!

You've actually made some very interesting observations in the video. Especially in the king's chamber it had been very hot. That's why extra fans were set up there. In the great gallery, it had been pleasantly warm. One could go therefore even in December problem-free with T-Shirt into the Cheops pyramid. Have you already explored pyramids so far?

Thank you for sharing that very very interesting I wish I could go there.. Amazing piece of engineering hard to believe they move those massive stones by hand..
Amazing! I wish to visit there someday.
Looks industrial... not tomb-ish
Alucinante!
Impresionante! !
En serio... dejen de tratar de hacernos creer las hicieron los pobres egipcios x favor !!!
The pyramids were built by man. No question.
The pyramids were covered with polished white limestone and reflected sunlight all around them. The Great Pyramid was definitely not a tomb.
@@brianr3699 exactly! It was a burial place for the pharaoh/King/God incarnate. Covered with lime stone in the gold cap not only as a tribute to the gods but away for the king to enter the afterlife. So yes it was a tomb.
@@6atlantis so where did you get that knowledge and education from? From your history books??
Thanks a lot for showing this grandeur monument... Still now, I thought that the total Pyramid was constructed without leaving any empty space inside... But, my assumption is wrong.... I hope, one day I will definitely visit... Thanks a lot for filming this GREAT PYRAMID..
Thanks for posting! I've been wanting to know what the inside of the pyramids looked like for years since I currently don't have the opportunity to see them in person. It definitely would've been better to bring a refreshing drink for all of that climbing you all had to do. It's also good to see there weren't any scorpions in there.
I would love to visit the Pyramids but I'm afraid of what it would do to my delicate esteem. Seeing that ancient pile of stone might make me rethink my place on Earth and how insignificance I really am. I prefer to keep that to myself.
