Wow all this time I’ve been playing COD on my Xbox with my line plugged into the WRONG port. So annoying wondering why I’m getting shot just as I seen the enemy like they had at least half a second advantage on me and it was annoying. Just changed to the red port, if this fixes that you’re the real mvp lol. THANK YOU
I've paid for Xfinity internet for the past five years, I pay for 100mbps and it's never above 30mbps unless I call and complain, then it's around 100mbps for a day or 2, and back to 30. I've called about this no less than a dozen times over the past 2 years... and the last two times they scheduled a technician to come out where I had to be home for a 2-3 hour window, and both times the technician didn't show up, didn't call, didn't care. Comcast is the most awful atrocity of customer service on the planet. Last time I spoke with them, their suggestion was that I pay more for faster speeds and lock into a 3 year contract with them. Why would I pay for faster speeds when you only give me 33% of the speed I'm currently paying for?
Oh that sucks. Are you 100% you are seeing MB not Mbps stated on your Xfinity speeds. Because 100Mbps is only 12.5MB...didn't know if you where aware of the difference 🤷♂️🙂
Don’t keep these near a heat source such as a heater vent. I’ve had an XB7-T fail on me due to heat, causing it to not want to connect to the internet (blinky green light) . Just replaced that with the older XB7-CM. There’s not a lot of info on the differences online, but just figured I’d warn those of you who have the XB7-T, they’re VERY prone to overheating and failing completely when placed next to a heat source, lasted a total of 4 months.
RE: adapter plug taking up 2-3 outlets on a power strip or surge protector. They recommend plugging into wall outlet but I hear ya on this. I use the last avail spot on my power strip so it doesn’t block any other plug ins.
@@AtHomewithLucas I have not had 1 issue w/ my XB7 in like almost a year!! (11 months tbh). So reliable-So consistent! The light is ALWAYS solid white!! Lol
Interesting that yours came in a flat box and sealed in plastic shrinkwrap like that. Our XB7 came in a hipster-ish box the same shape as the gateway itself with little compartments for the power supply and cables. We had been eligible for a new gateway since we upped to gigabit speed a few months ago, but Xfinity didn't tell us at the time which I find odd. Instead I found out by accident, clicking a link in a Google search result. Our grey XB6 with it's internal AC power supply ran hot so the fan was loud, and it couldn't handle gigabit speed. The XB7 is definitely an improvement.
My experience with Xfinity has been a terrible one. First, they did something that fried my $500+ router/modem that I bought to accommodate the 1.2-gigabit service and I have been dealing with slower speeds that my older router supplies. I called to set up to use one of their rentals rather than pay $500+ for a replacement. The next day I went to my local store during my lunch break a 35-minute drive only to find that they closed the office because their system was down. Left work early so I could make it to the store before they closed @ 5pm only to find out that they couldn't give me a router because the person on the phone from the day before didn't put in the order and they couldn't put in an order for me so I could be on my way. I asked them to call Customer Service to place the order and they said they couldn't. I called while at the counter and after about 20 minutes of trouble with the agent on the phone, I finally was handed a new router. I get home to install and everything you mentioned was in the box except the only thing I don't already have. That's right, no power supply was in my box. I will have to repeat the pain in the azz of missing my lunch break to run back to the Xfinity store to most likely have to argue my way into getting them to give me a router. You can bet your azz that I will be opening the box to make sure everything is included before I leave the store. I hate Xfinity. If there was another option for me to get high-speed internet from a different provider, I would have left them a long time ago.
I need to reset my gateway ( Xfinity XB7-T) (I super screwed up) back to manufacturer's defaults of User ==== admin password === password. Will just removing the power (unplug it) do that? Should I use some hyperlink other than 10.0.0.1 ?
Thanks for getting back to me. First, I'm a former Navy jet pilot, so I "think" I'm petty smart... but my cell is NOT easy to follow. Anyway, I've given up on the new router. Good luck.
One disadvantage appears to the number of status lights. The old Arris internet/phone modems had 8 status lights; power; two for internet; two for wifi; two for telephone; and a battery light. Looks like this only has one multicolor light, that you need to remember what each color stands for (and still doesn't show all the same info as the old model). Guess it's looks over information.
Oh my I felt a big headache coming on🤕 hope it's a smooth as you make it seem, called for an upgrade and came straight to this video. Thanks for the heads up on downloading the app, wish me luck!
@@AtHomewithLucas well IPhone is just as easy when you get new iPhone they have new setup screen we’re your can just transfer from one phone to other now a days

hi just found your website good info. i am wondering how to go from the flat cable out of the router, i think its called HMDI to the round coax cable? i am trying to use an older tv that isn't offering a HMDI port. thanks Jim
The router/modem (called the "gateway") and TV box are two separate devices. With regard to the gateway, internet comes into the gateway via a round cable coming out of the wall called coax, and then goes out to your devices either wirelessly via Wi-Fi or over a cable called ethernet (sort of rectangular). With regard to the TV box (probably an X1 box if you have Xfinity), the TV signal comes into the TV box via a a coax cable, and then goes out to the TV via either HDMI (carries both video and audio) or via Component cables (red, blue, and green cables for video, red and white cables for audio) or via Composite cables (yellow for video, red and white for audio) or via a coax cable like you mentioned. If you want to use a coax cable to get the picture to your TV, you can do that by plugging a coax cable directly from the "Coax out" port on your Xfinity TV box to the coax port on your TV - you don't have to mess with HDMI at all. If your TV and TV box have the red/blue/green Component connections, though, you might want to use that since it's HD like HDMI. One other thing: with regard to the coax cables, if you have both an Xfinity Gateway and an Xfinity TV box and you want to plug them into the same coax jack on the wall in your room, then you'd need a coax splitter. This page explains this stuff pretty well: www.xfinity.com/support/articles/identifying-video-connection-types
I should be able to use this router as a main and then connect it to another router that would be an access point right? I want to get a TP-Link router to use in the basement as an access point because the signal sucks down there, but they have different set up interfaces. I think I know how to make one an access point and disable its DHCP server but wasn't sure if you can use different brand routers together.
You need to look up xfinity capital routers. There is a list showing what ones work with your Xb7. Also, have you thought about xFi pods? Those could work.
Hi all , looking for some quick advice . I have a friend I've recently started handling the cell phone plans for ( not normal for me ) , and they gave me contact info for their Verizon rep . I've been working with him for almost a year now , and I'm constantly having problems getting answers from him on basic things like can he confirm he put insurance on our plans and how do I utilize the insurance after a phone is damaged ? My question to you all is : how do you normally work with Verizon on things like activation problems on new phones and questions on insurance and such ? Do you have a client rep you ask , a special number to call , or how can I get quick and reliable results here ? What is the proper way to request a new client rep ? If I make the request , I want to make sure I don't end up still stuck with the same guy . I've already had a heart to heart with him and needing faster response times , and the quality dropped after that talk .
I’m not familiar with “network management.” Do you mean the administrative side of their website where you can manage user and cost center information for a specific user or are you talking about mobile device management? I use both at my organization.
@@timleech5708 I do. There have been times where I’ve received SIMs for a phone or laptop and it didn’t activate. Sometimes he suggests I contact customer service and other times he finds an error in the order and corrects it.
Network management" on the plan itself. So all the lines on the plan, the speed is managed by Verizon to work with all Verizons clients (it would slow down during peak times). We have an older plan that isn't throttled like that, and I don't trust my nonresponsive rep telling me it should be fine (but he won't be able to change it back)
Nice work my friend. I have the xfinity XB7-T, do you know where the WPS is on it? I wanna install a rock space extender which says to press the WPS on modem.
Lucas, I just signed up for Xfinity and they sent me the old router (black rectangle). The older style router has a hard time throwing a single throughout my home. Will the newer XB7 throw a signal further? My home is small, 800sq down and 800sf up.
Hi, just got this today, it’s everything you say. It runs warm, almost hot. Not uncomfortably hot. Do you experience the same thing? Is it normal? I shouldn’t be concerned?
So if you have Comcast Xfinity in your place, you should have a wall coax outlet. If you're talking about your router not having a coax port, then you don't have an Xfinity router.
@@AtHomewithLucas what I’m trying to say is that I don’t believe I have a coax outlet for the modem, which is why I wanted to know if you knew of any adapters I could use to be able to plug it into the wall and use it
they sent me this modem too as a free upgrade and when i received it had crayon markings and scratches, and i can hear some broken plastic rattling around in it lol
Never use their equipment. I use my own modem and router. All of their equipment is geared towards using your power and your internet connection for their wifi hotspots. Supposedly you can disable this but I found that it "magically" turned itself back on after a while. Plus there are tons of settings locked away so you can't change them or even see them and you know none of them benefit you. That's why I finally bought my own equipment. I was able to set up the modem by myself using their website. Just make sure it's on their list of compatible devices. As for the router, use whatever you want.
Do you know what the difference between the XB7-T vs the XB7-CM? I wanted the XB8 and comcast said they were going to send me that but sent me the XB7-T the first time and XB7-CM the next. Just wondering what the difference is. Thanks!
The XB7 CM is faster than XB7 T? I had called xfinity to cancel my service because of all the issues I was having, they offered me to send me a better one and sent me the XB7 T, I currently have the XB7 CM
Great Video Lucas and thank you. That particular modem is for 800 and 1,000 megabits on up,correct? I only have 400 megabits so I have to stay with the XB6 modem. Cheers from sunny warm Puerto Rico!
Just call Xfinity and say your XB6 is not working for you and that you need the newest router they offer. Just be super nice, and they will work hard to get you a fantastic router. 😁
I'm currently running an older XB6 that is "bridged" with an Linksys router. I'm going to upgrade to the newer XB7 or whatever the current X-Fi device is available. Is "bridging" still a viable option since I do not want to broadcast a public X-Fi hotspot in my neighborhood. Thanks for the input. Cheers.
Great question...first off you can turn off your Xfinity Hotspot on your current router using the xfi app. You don't need a second router to stop sharing with neighbors... But to your question yes the XB7-T or XB8 will allow bringing with specific Router that they say will work with Xfinity.
The newest router in 2022 is the XB8...the difference between the XB7 and XB7-T is not much just different manufacturer and little improvements but the XB7-T is the newer model.
Are there any differences between the Xfinity XB7-T that you used in your updating demo and the Xfinity XB7-CM that I just received? I hoping everything works the same so that I can upgrade my system from an XB6 to the XB7-CM and keep my 2.4 ghz and 5.o ghz wifi channels. Also I think the Xfinity app is probably newer now. I have Ver. 4.25.0. I sure hope there is no difference so I can accomplish the upgrade.
I’m looking forward for the XB8. Xfinity lady I spoke to said it will be available within 30 days at the most. Customers with Xfi Complete and/or gig speed get first dibs.
Just cross your fingers and hope for the best 🤞😁 if you do get the old black rectangle XB3 call them asap and ask for the XB7-T or XB8 (say your router is not covering your house) say dead spots are everywhere 👍😁
With all due respect, the OP makes a very valid point. The review focuses on the appearance of the device and not the technical except for the absence of a USB port and the presence of 4 LAN ports. But my advice, which in intended ONLY to help you, is this: If you're not certain of the purpose of a button, either just say so or just don't mention it. With that said, I'll close by saying I would hire you as a spokesperson any day of the week. And, thank you for the video. I know MUCH more about this device than I did before watching your video. How do you transfer all the settings from my current router to this one ? Do I just install this router and then plug my old router into this and it will transfer all settings ? I don’t want to have to setup all my devices to a new Wi-Fi connection
Good question. So all you do is unplug your old router, then plug in the new one and set it up using the Xfi app. All your devices will just work as normal as if nothing changed 👍😁
No, unplug your old router, (then return it to Comcast). Plug your new router in, and use the app on your phone Xfi (it will have a setup card for that in the box), then you will be 100% finished. It should take about 10 minutes or so.
@@AtHomewithLucas currently I am using a Netgear CM1000 modem with a Asus RT-AX88U router for Wi-Fi. So you’re saying for me to unplug my old ASUS router and the XB7 will pickup all the Wi-Fi settings configured on my ASUS router automatically? without plugging the Asus router into the XB7? How would the XB7 know my Wi-Fi SSID’s/ passwords for the Wi-Fi settings currently on my Asus router ?
Am I missing something in your recital? It sounds like you disconnect the old XB3, plug in and connect the XB7, then use the app to activate and transfer old settings to new device?
First open the Xfi app then follow the instructions on setting up a new device. If you already received your new router the app should have it ready under devices
@@AtHomewithLucas Actually the list of devices is just of the "recipients" of wifi signal, as it were, not the new hub. So if I power up the new hub it should show up on the device list? Sorry for the ignorant questions!
I have this router/modem and 400mbps service from xfinity... i also have a nighthawk router with 2.5/5 ghz connected to it.. does it Make sense to run both devices? Some of my home has "dead zones".. i was thinking about running ethernet cord to the middle of my house and hardwire my nighthawk. Good idea?
I would contact Xfinity and tell them your problem...they should be able to work with you on getting you free Xfi pods. They should fix all your dead spots. Also if multiple routers made sense Comcast would be offering two routers to everyone (make more money) but they never do unless your house is 30 thousand square feet lol
Do you know how much it cost because Mom and I can't afford to buy it because we're out of money and she needs a job so we can have a rent the apartment so I can play multiplayer games without lagging

Reply goes back to YT? I stupidly did not take a photo of the back before I disconnected the other router. Now, no matter how I rearrange the phone cords, I have no phone. I did finally get the Internet back. I am just looking for a pick of the back of this model.
I went from using an XB7 to the Xb7-T by accident when they sent me it instead of the XB8 I requested because they didn’t have any in stock yet. I have to say tho… I definitely see a good jump in performance from them. I run a 40 device smart home and never had any MAJOR issues with the XB7 but now I have noticed that my cameras and switches never drop signal and they are still on a 2.4 GHz band. I’m really curious about what the “T” really stands for because if it was a true Wi-Fi 6 router it would have a 6GHz band but sadly doesn’t.
So from what I know the T is because Comcast when with a new company to make that router. Technically the T is the newer router (second to the XB8) and some say its faster then the XB7-T
I’ve used the wi-fi feature only of XB7-T for a couple of years. It’s so slow now (or my Dell laptop 5000 series is) that I bought a cable to connect the two. How do I do that? Which plug do I use?
Just got this… all our apple devices won’t auto connect and once forced onto WiFi will drop the connection again if you go inactive for a minute or less. Not happy!!!
I like how he thinks the wps button is a reset button I have one and i ran new wires and tested the connections on a xm2 meter and im getting almost 2450 mps in Tennessee
If I bought the old modem outright why would I have to return it though? I could see if I was renting it and it gets swapped out but seems weird I have to return something I own. seems sus
@@AtHomewithLucas the email they sent says I have to if I don't want to be charged which is odd since I own it. it also says I have to upgrade because going forwarded it will no longer work. feel kind of gipped
Just chat with them through the Xfinity app or call them. I know they will help you figure it out. My thoughts are that this is an automated email for people who rent. This might not be for you.
Hay so I have an older black unit that's been offline for quite a while now. I actually have that same one coming today is it possible to use the same lines you know or anyone else know?
1:41 You don’t think a screw in cable might provide more contact area as opposed to the “snap in” type which just contacts the tips of the threads? You think that’s a good thing? 🤔
Yes all it's doing is allowing the cable in the center to go in the hole. The contact is with the little wire not the entire cable/thread. How the wire goes in the hole thread or snap thread doesn't make a difference.
@@AtHomewithLucas WTH? I keep getting alerts about this post, but UA-cam keeps deleting my reply. Maybe because I attempt to send you to a source of information? I dunno, I deconstructed the address. I have this router it wasn't working and I tried to manually restart it like the app told me to I unplugged it from the wall and when I plugged it back in the router never came back on the light on top either help if you can thanks
Okay first thing move it to a different power and cable outlet. Second make sure the plug is all the way in the back. Third was the router in a retail packaging? Or just a box with the router?
i have nothing but problems with this modem/router. i think its overheating. i have to unplug and reset it atleast 5 times a week... ill wake up and say good morning to google and she doesnt have internet.. kinda close to a heat source but i dont have another choice. that where the cables run too
It the router sitting on the ground or on something. Also you can get long coax cables so you can move the router to a different part of the room/house.
Its not beneficial. Your routers job is to direct information the most efficient way. If you get to many walls between you and the router you want to switch off 5 and go to the 2.4 and the router does that for you.
#1 benefit is to set up a 2.4ghz device that won't connect to a Mesh network. Xfinity, being a Mesh network, makes it very hard to connect new smart home devices such as doorbells, smart lights, etc.
My 2.4 and 5ghz wifi both have the same name and password. I get the best speeds like this. When i had them seperate my wifi speeds suck. Whats the benefit of having them seperate
@@AtHomewithLucas o I know but it looks super beefy never seen one like that. Was wondering what cable that is or is it just the connection part so it doesn't come off. That part that connects to the modem
I know this was posted a year ago, just hope you are still monitoring this feed! The question is; do I need a phone line? I am not interested in using voice, I just want the internet. But all the instructions and the Xfintiy wed site keeps talking about voice and connecting a phone!
I’m confused. If you have xfinity service can you buy any router? I see routers on sale at Best Buy for example, but I am not sure if you can just attach them to cable and have the xfinity service know how to recognize it. (I’m asking just in case they won’t let me upgrade for free lol. I wanna have WiFi6 for cloud gaming on Quest)
If you have an older router (XB3) just call Xfinity and say you are have connection problems in part of your house. They should send out a new router. Now as for buying any router, Yes you can go to Bestbuy get a router and connect it to your Xfinity router. But you will need to set your Xfinity router to Bridge Mode (that turns off the router function but keeps On the modem) then you plug the new router in via the ethernet cable. As for better gaming yes Wifi 6 will get you there 👍💯😁
@@AtHomewithLucas We have a Motorola MB7220 modem that we now fully own after paying Comcast for 2 years + Netgear router. I do not see an option to upgrade the device online. Is it worth trying to call to get the XB7? Or should I buy retail?
I'd call and try to get a new router. With the XB8 router being out in most states you will have two upgrades (XB7-T or XB8) it's pretty easy to say you will get a new router. 👍😁
You didn’t know that? And your doing tech reviews? And from 5:53 till 7:03 you talked about a drink. I’m trying to find out information on how to install this thing in my house, I clicked on your video after searching and saw your beautiful beard with some eyes behind it,
I am getting ready to move to a new place and when I call Xfinity they are going to upgrade me to the Xb7t. So my question is does it also work on 5.0 ghz
Should also mention the the telephony 📞 ☎️ ports for your old school telephone if you have a landline lol. And yes, WiFi 6 AX is soooooooo amazing compared to WiFi 5 AC.
I'm pretty sure it's all done by Xfinity. They send out silent updates all the time. Most of the time, if you have a problem with your router, it's because you got an update with bugs. But a simple router unplugging and plugging back clears the bugs.
@@AtHomewithLucas Okay thank you it’s just the speeds are jumping like crazy. It would go from like 5mbps to 100kbps. It commonly goes down to 0kbps per second too.

Can I be able to use the white coax cable that was connected to my XB6 for the xb7? it would really suck if I couldn't because the cable snakes throughout my apartment.. but thanks for your help!
@@AtHomewithLucas whoops I forgot to add on, will i not be able to use the higher speeds if I don’t switch to the black coaxial cable? Also thank you for your help!
I've tried 2 of the XB7 modems and they each keep dropping devices -- either my work laptop, or my own personal laptop & iphone together get dropped -- so I have to keep resetting the modem to get these devices to reconnect. This happens almost daily and sometimes several times a day. So, I'd say these modems are complete garbage. I'm going to have to look into getting my own modem because this is especially disruptive when I'm losing connection to work. I've had numerous XFinity techs come to my house to see if there is some other issue, but I can only conclude these modems are complete junk. One tech told me to just get my own modem.
Okay so the PS5 does support WiFi 6 but the iPhone 13 Pro doesn't. I'm not sure if the PS5 will say Wi-Fi 6 when connected or not...so you may have devices using Wi-Fi 6 but you don't know it. Most devices released in 2020 should have WiFi 6 capabilities.
Sounds like you need to split your wifi so the ring doorbell can connect to your 2.4hgz solo. What I do is connect all my 2.4g only devices to 2.4g and devices that can connect to 5g to 5g since doing this I've had amazing wifi with no problems. I have over 25 devices using my wifi 24/7 😁
@@AtHomewithLucas Thanks, Lucas. I did that. It did not help. I also assigned the doorbell a fixed IP--no luck. I attached my doorbell to my iPhone hotspot in about 30 seconds, and it worked flawlessly, so it is not the doorbell. I think this common doorbell does not communicate well with the new Xfinity modem/router. I have spent 8 hours on the phone with Ring and Xfinity support with no resolution--thus, I think it is fair to warn potential users of the Xfinity modem/router who have a Ring doorbell.
Yes this is a mesh network router. But you will have to buy the xfi pods ($200 for two) some people say if you call Comcast explaining your house is not full covered they will send you them for free. But bare in mind this XB7-T router is powerful enough to cover large homes with ease. I freakin love this router lol 😁
Yes the 6e is the XB8 router. That will provide lighting fast Wi-Fi 6 speeds as well as other benefits. It's there newest router/modem combo. As for XB8 being something you should upgrade to from the XB7-T not really sure it will make a big difference. But trust me I'll be reviewing the XB8 soon 💯😁
Just call Xfinity and say you need the new router because you are having problems with your existing router. They will send you the new router no charge. You still pay to rent the router tho.
I would contact Comcast. Depending on your service with them, you may be able to get a free set of the Xpods. I have the gig speed plan and they gave me a set of 3 for free last year. I don't have the biggest house but there are dead spots and these cleared them up. Also depending on your plan you can get your data cap removed for like $10-15 extra. I pay $125/month for their 1.2Gbps plan (no contract). The $25 covers my gateway rental and removes the data cap. This is just a PSA as they have hidden deals you have to hunt for.
I wish there was vid of how to connect everything. Having trouble connecting cable box to tv. It says to tighten cables.. I don't know how much tighter I can get them. 😣Good thing I got wifi going.
Oh i didn't realize that was a needed video. I might be about to make that video. But typically just finger tightening is enough. Are you not getting your cable box to work? Happy you got your wifi going also 👍😁

I don't even have Gigabit speed yet they still sent one to me. Maybe they are now sending them out to anyone.
Thanks for watching and sorry to hear that Keith...hope you find better internet soon 🤞
Good luck.
Thanks
One disadvantage appears to the number of status lights. The old Arris internet/phone modems had 8 status lights; power; two for internet; two for wifi; two for telephone; and a battery light. Looks like this only has one multicolor light, that you need to remember what each color stands for (and still doesn't show all the same info as the old model). Guess it's looks over information.
Trust me the new router almost never has a problem. So you won't really miss all those lights. But yes you will learn the colors pretty quick.
I try this router they even send me 3 of them all 3 where having problems many people been having issues like crazy.
Hope your router is working now. Mine is perfectly running 24/7
@Miguel Castellanos lag is not caused by speed. It's caused by latency.
Oh my I felt a big headache coming on🤕 hope it's a smooth as you make it seem, called for an upgrade and came straight to this video. Thanks for the heads up on downloading the app, wish me luck!

We have this across the border. Shaw and rogers license the xfi platform. I agree with some comments. The providers are restricting wifi speeds. It can pump upto 1.8gbps wifi
Oh thanks for the info. I'm seeing Comcast upping the speed for my router every few months. But still not 1G fast 🙃
hi just found your website good info. i am wondering how to go from the flat cable out of the router, i think its called HMDI to the round coax cable? i am trying to use an older tv that isn't offering a HMDI port. thanks Jim
Hey sorry for the late reply. Did you figure out your problem?
This page explains this stuff pretty well:

*philidelphia (sorry I had to because I see that slogan everywhere) Great video! Can’t wait for the XB8!
Yes the XB8 will be insane...I'll definitely be reviewing it when I get my hands on it 🙌💯😁
Yeah lol I messed up 🤣
I should be able to use this router as a main and then connect it to another router that would be an access point right?
Like you, I work with a rep, but he’s awesome. Always responds to me within 30 minutes and always confirms details and answers all of my questions.
I’m not familiar with “network management.” Do you mean the administrative side of their website where you can manage user and cost center information for a specific user or are you talking about mobile device management? I use both at my organization.
@@isabelleite3235 If you have a problem with activation or something technical, do you contact Tony miles (rep) who is quick to help?

We have an older plan that isn't throttled like that, and I don't trust my nonresponsive rep telling me it should be fine (but he won't be able to change it back)
Where in the app does it show you how to set it up ? Can’t find that anywhere ? Thanks Tim

Nice work my friend. I have the xfinity XB7-T, do you know where the WPS is on it? I wanna install a rock space extender which says to press the WPS on modem.
Great question...The WPS button is the one on the back and has the -->
Lucas, I just signed up for Xfinity and they sent me the old router (black rectangle). The older style router has a hard time throwing a single throughout my home. Will the newer XB7 throw a signal further? My home is small, 800sq down and 800sf up.
Yes the Xb7 or Xb8 will cover more sf and should give you the whole home wifi you need. 👍😁
Do you use wifi pods from Xfinity? If so do they do wifi?
No I don't have Pods
Hi, just got this today, it’s everything you say. It runs warm, almost hot. Not uncomfortably hot. Do you experience the same thing? Is it normal? I shouldn’t be concerned?
Mine is a little warm but not close to hot. Try unplugging it for 5 min then plug it back in.
Also any extensive gaming going on in the house?
Also is it sitting on carpet or a cloth surface?
Close to other things (bookshelf)?
In a closed area (cabinet or entertainment center)?
If you have Comcast unlimited it's cheaper to use theirs along with if you have GB speed
Just one question, when you connected coaxial jack and the power, how long did it take to match your setting?
It was very fast. I was definitely worried but in like 10 minutes I was back up and running.
@@AtHomewithLucas it was quick, after Comcast Registered my XB7 with my account ! !

I don’t think I have a outlet for my coaxial do you know any adapters that would work?
So if you have Comcast Xfinity in your place, you should have a wall coax outlet. If you're talking about your router not having a coax port, then you don't have an Xfinity router.
@@AtHomewithLucas what I’m trying to say is that I don’t believe I have a coax outlet for the modem, which is why I wanted to know if you knew of any adapters I could use to be able to plug it into the wall and use it
@mangoeater28 what router/modem do you have? Is it like the one I have in the video?
they sent me this modem too as a free upgrade and when i received it had crayon markings and scratches, and i can hear some broken plastic rattling around in it lol
Oh no lol Xfinity is really going down hill 🤦♂️
Never use their equipment. I use my own modem and router. All of their equipment is geared towards using your power and your internet connection for their wifi hotspots. Supposedly you can disable this but I found that it "magically" turned itself back on after a while. Plus there are tons of settings locked away so you can't change them or even see them and you know none of them benefit you. That's why I finally bought my own equipment. I was able to set up the modem by myself using their website. Just make sure it's on their list of compatible devices. As for the router, use whatever you want.
I definitely need to try do this myself. Thanks for sharing 😁
Use it a modem in bridge mode, and set yourself up a pc running opnsense as a router and some wifi 6 routers as access points.
Thanks for sharing
Do you know what the difference between the XB7-T vs the XB7-CM? I wanted the XB8 and comcast said they were going to send me that but sent me the XB7-T the first time and XB7-CM the next. Just wondering what the difference is. Thanks!
XB7-CM is the new of the two...not a lot different between them just a little faster with the XB7-CM
The XB7 CM is faster than XB7 T? I had called xfinity to cancel my service because of all the issues I was having, they offered me to send me a better one and sent me the XB7 T, I currently have the XB7 CM
The XB7-T is the older router
It goes:
XB7-T
XB7-CM
XB8
XB7-CM is not much faster then XB7-T just newer
Great Video Lucas and thank you. That particular modem is for 800 and 1,000 megabits on up,correct? I only have 400 megabits so I have to stay with the XB6 modem. Cheers from sunny warm Puerto Rico!
No I'm on the 400 plan. So you can definitely get the XB7-T 👍
Just call Xfinity and say your XB6 is not working for you and that you need the newest router they offer. Just be super nice, and they will work hard to get you a fantastic router. 😁
What is bridge mode? Can I use it with moca?

@@AtHomewithLucas sounds like you’re talking about using the XB7 in bridge mode and using my old router for Wi-Fi ?
No, unplug your old router, (then return it to Comcast). Plug your new router in, and use the app on your phone Xfi (it will have a setup card for that in the box), then you will be 100% finished. It should take about 10 minutes or so.

Doesn't this cost $14.99 a month to use?
I’ve used the wi-fi feature only of XB7-T for a couple of years. It’s so slow now (or my Dell laptop 5000 series is) that I bought a cable to connect the two. How do I do that? Which plug do I use?

Hey Lucas, I'm a new subscriber,
have you or could you do a video on how to split 2.4GH and 5-6G and why it is beneficial?
First off thanks for the sub 🙏 and yes I've made a few videos this is the newest one ua-cam.com/video/1mTJckVCqiQ/v-deo.html let 😀
Splitting wifi allows you to set up 2.4ghz only devices. When the wifi is the same some devices can't connect.
What is that coaxial cable?
It's the cable that plugs into your wall outlet (cable thread on the wall)

If you have an older router (XB3) just call Xfinity and say you are have connection problems in part of your house. They should send out a new router.
Now as for buying any router, Yes you can go to Bestbuy get a router and connect it to your Xfinity router. You didn’t know that? And your doing tech reviews? And from 5:53 till 7:03 you talked about a drink. I’m trying to find out information on how to install this thing in my house, I clicked on your video after searching and saw your beautiful beard with some eyes behind it,

How to connect another wifi device to the xb7-t via wps
English? 🙏
How to connect another wifi device to the xb7-t via wps
Wish the wifi speed was better. My Lan set up on my ps5 is running over 800mbps like I pay for but wifi I'm barely getting 130
Are you getting those speeds on 2.4ghz or 5ghz?
@@AtHomewithLucas just figured out how to change the name on the 5ghz. Runnin mid 6's now
Awesome 👌
I am getting ready to move to a new place and when I call Xfinity they are going to upgrade me to the Xb7t. So my question is does it also work on 5.0 ghz
Yes the XB7-T has 2.4ghz 5ghz and 6ghz if your devices have 6G capabilities 👍😁
Should also mention the the telephony 📞 ☎️ ports for your old school telephone if you have a landline lol.
And yes, WiFi 6 AX is soooooooo amazing compared to WiFi 5 AC.
but you have to go im admin settings to enable .ax
@@joseguzman4855 yes sir!
Lol 😆
How do I upgrade the firmware on this router?
I'm pretty sure it's all done by Xfinity. They send out silent updates all the time. Most of the time, if you have a problem with your router, it's because you got an update with bugs. But a simple router unplugging and plugging back clears the bugs.
@@AtHomewithLucas Okay thank you it’s just the speeds are jumping like crazy. It would go from like 5mbps to 100kbps. It commonly goes down to 0kbps per second too.
How are you setup? Wifi or ethernet cable? Did you restart your router? Still having problems after that?
What are the security concerns with the XB7T? I have read that there could be security issues. If I enable WPA2, I know that will help with WiFi but what about someone accessing the gateway via your username and PW?
I haven't had any concerns since installing mine.
Thank you
Welcome 👍 😁
How do you set up
Okay what have you done so far? Did you plug it in?
I keep trying to do the connection thing with my phone but it doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried it around the house
Okay can you give me more information so i can help you?
Can I be able to use the white coax cable that was connected to my XB6 for the xb7? it would really suck if I couldn't because the cable snakes throughout my apartment.. but thanks for your help!
Yes 100% 👍
@@AtHomewithLucas whoops I forgot to add on, will i not be able to use the higher speeds if I don’t switch to the black coaxial cable? Also thank you for your help!
As far as I know you should be fine. Unless that cable is very old.
Just keep and eye out for other people replying with more info 👌👍

We will complain about this later...😄
I thought that might get a laugh 😊
I've tried 2 of the XB7 modems and they each keep dropping devices -- either my work laptop, or my own personal laptop & iphone together get dropped -- so I have to keep resetting the modem to get these devices to reconnect. This happens almost daily and sometimes several times a day. So, I'd say these modems are complete garbage. I'm going to have to look into getting my own modem because this is especially disruptive when I'm losing connection to work. I've had numerous XFinity techs come to my house to see if there is some other issue, but I can only conclude these modems are complete junk. One tech told me to just get my own modem.
Thanks for sharing
How do you setup them from all being sperate? I'm talking about the 2.4 line and 5 etc??

Did anyone have a problem broadcasting WiFi 6??? I’ve got 2.4 and 5 going but can not get 6 going
It will only work with devices that can handle 6G...what devices are you using with your router? Any new devices?
@@AtHomewithLucas my PS5 and my iPhone 13 Pro
Okay so the PS5 does support WiFi 6 but the iPhone 13 Pro doesn't. I'm not sure if the PS5 will say Wi-Fi 6 when connected or not...so you may have devices using Wi-Fi 6 but you don't know it. Most devices released in 2020 should have WiFi 6 capabilities.
@@AtHomewithLucas I only got 660 ghz out of my PS5 that was hardwired. Really the iPhone 13 pro doesn’t? From what I read it does support WiFi 6
I keep trying to connect the gateway with the app but it can't find it what do I do???
Try unplugging your router for 2 minutes then plug it back in.
How can you setup a guest network with this router along with a separate password?
No but you can turn on your "Hotspot" to allow guests to use the Xfinity wifi account. You can turn it on and off with the Xfi app 👍😁
I have this router, but it does not play well with my Ring doorbell. I would not recommend it for people with a Ring doorbell
Following this video to split your wifi 👇😁

@@AtHomewithLucas Thanks, Lucas. I did that. It did not help. I also assigned the doorbell a fixed IP--no luck. I attached my doorbell to my iPhone hotspot in about 30 seconds, and it worked flawlessly, so it is not the doorbell. I think this common doorbell does not communicate well with the new Xfinity modem/router. I have spent 8 hours on the phone with Ring and Xfinity support with no resolution--thus, I think it is fair to warn potential users of the Xfinity modem/router who have a Ring doorbell.
How do you get it for free but Comcast still charge you for rental fee
It's a free upgrade if you ask for it
Can you hook it up with a mesh Wifi system? I already have the mesh Wifi system. Comcast offer me this modem.
Yes. I have an ASUS AiMesh WiFi System that works just fine with this router.
Put it in the bottom plug. Boom
Lol
Can you give us a review & differences between xb7-t & 6e gateway routers for xfinity
How did you get it for free?
Just call Xfinity and say you need the new router because you are having problems with your existing router. They will send you the new router no charge. You still pay to rent the router tho.
Thanks.
Designed in Philadelphia! Not the Philippines 😁
I'm dyslexic so sometimes I do stuff like that lol my bad 🤣
Hey Lucas, should the XB7 improve wifi range as well? I live in a
Yes the XB7-T is so much more stable at further distances. My uploading to UA-cam is lightning fast with the XB7-T vs. XB3 👍😁
@@AtHomewithLucas thanks for such a quick reply! I’m excited!
No problem...always happy to help 🙂
I would contact Comcast. Depending on your service with them, you may be able to get a free set of the Xpods. I have the gig speed plan and they gave me a set of 3 for free last year. I don't have the biggest house but there are dead spots and these cleared them up.
Also depending on your plan you can get your data cap removed for like $10-15 extra. I pay $125/month for their 1.2Gbps plan (no contract). The $25 covers my gateway rental and removes the data cap. This is just a PSA as they have hidden deals you have to hunt for.
Oh great info 💯😁
I will call myself to see if I can get free pods (I want to do a review video on them) 😁
I wish there was vid of how to connect everything.
Happy you got your wifi going also 👍😁
Any further updates with this and the devices? It's been about a year and the cycle for these tends to be about that also.
Still just as strong as day one. Runs 24/7 with no problems. Only had to restart it twice. 💯😁
Does anyone have a problem with this when the power goes out? I always have a problem with getting everything reconnected, even with rebooting everything. Any suggestions?
Hope you solved your problem
