I did this years ago trying to make my Xbox work faster (and it slightly did), but I remembered this video today because my PC hasn’t been able to update any of my Adobe apps past about 28% for WEEKS, telling me I disconnected. I put in the DNS settings and it worked like a charm. Thanks!

I've been telling people to do this for 10+ years ever since I started looking into reducing network latency. Even recommending using Steve Gibson's DNS benchmark utility (gotta love how tiny that program is thanks to being programmed in Assembly language). Glad you made a video about this. Sorry I didn't know until now otherwise I would have been sharing this years ago. Thanks UA-cam for finally putting it in my feed. LOL!

Steve Gibson is a legend. His data recovery program has stood the test of time. He has forgotten more about computers than most people have learned.
DNS is only used for the first request made to a domain, after that it’s cached. This could make the first load slightly faster (measured in ms) but it can’t make anything else faster
It is cached but the router remember it only for say a day according to router settings.
@@VikasPoonia it’s not a specific time, it’s whatever TTL is set by the DNS. Either way, though, it’s a highly infrequent so not a big consideration in overall speed

This video just got a new sub. IT STILL WORKS. I ran 10 tests loading Microsoft outlook on a chrome book. My ISP DNS averaged 54 seconds to load the page. Clouds took average of 3 seconds.

It's only useful for name resolving, that is loading a page faster on your browser. Your internet won't actually be faster when downloading. You could check if the best MTU size settings are set on your router/computer which could really help on the speed if it isn't.
I have 108 ping on a game. Is there a setting to help with that or am I just limited by distance to their server?

I actually tested this using my Xbox Series X, since it displays Download/Upload/Latency and Packet loss. On my old setting, it was 89.80 Mbps download, 10.12 Mbps upload, 114 ms latency, with 5% packet loss.
Using your new setting, I lost a little on download, but my upload and latency improved. 88.84 Mbps download, 11.67 upload, 69 ms latency, and 0% packet loss.

This would fix everything. I consider it every time my ping exceeds 700. I usually just pull the plug to the router. If I can’t use it no one can.

One quick note, to save people from some headaches. These changes are better made on your router instead of your phone or computer. That way when you go to work or the coffee shop with your phone or computer you won't break things like login portals or intranet services.

As Squip stated, you won't really see a difference in how long a large download takes. However, where you will really see a speed boost is in web browsing, as pages will start loading faster. As there is usually very little data transferred, most the wait time is in the initialization, which a faster DNS will mitigate perfectly.

@@rohankishibe8259 Europe here, I've been using it for ages and not only is it fast, (notsure if faster than google but I trust this privacy more), it also helped me not experience any issues when my crappy ISP's DNS was down again(which happens a lot)
Changing DNS servers can speed up the amount of time it takes to resolve a domain name/website. But it won't speed up your overall internet connection. For example, you won't see an improvement in average download speeds for streaming content or downloading large files

You should have mentioned that some ISP gateways/routers won't let you change the DNS on their equipment. Therefore, changing it on a device only slows things down, bottleneck, gateways always intercept the transaction and redirect it to "their" crappie DNS servers.
Question: I have a netgear r6400 and my internet speeds are 800 mbps through Ethernet but on my 2.4 ghz network my speeds are around 50 mbps and on my 5ghz network the speeds are around 130 mbps. How do I get quicker Wi-Fi speeds? Do I need a better router? Please help!!

Fr tho but good advice I can give you is to restart your router. I did that and my 15 Mbps went back up to 230+ mbps and is working pretty well. I haven’t played on my console yet cuz I’ve been busy but the internet does seem a lot better. Before it was so bad I had to always stay on my cellular data but now I can stay on my own Wi-Fi without any fuckups.

@@nateh75 I played on my console and it didn’t go too well but I think that’s cuz I have 30+ devices that use internet. I just fixed my ps4 pro today tho by using a small trick that does kinda help. My ps4 went from lagging out and leaving the party and game every 10 mins to working smoothly for a few hours then I got off the game. Basically just turn off the ps4 then once it’s settled down press the power button until you hear it beep the 2nd time. Once it’s done I believe it should turn on by itself but if it doesn’t just turn it on again and your done. If that doesn’t work I don’t know what else to tell you but good luck.

Parker Stephens everywhere its the fastest. DNS servers are setup everywhere, unlike ISPs. I live in Nowhere, Wisconsin and I get 15ms latency which is a lot better than the 50 I got by using default gateways, compared to having this 20mbps Internet vs Pittsburgh having Verizon FioS
