You can't be that dense can you? Or are you a PR person for cloudflare? NOTHING is free in life. Many companies, that is to say pretty much ANY company on the internet, either buy or sell users data when a service is free(or even paid). It's not even hidden or denied by companies. This isn't a charity service and Cloudflare isn't a charity org. As for this being some sort of advertisement, completely ludicrous statement considering Cloudflare's main customers are large businesses, not end users. This is an end user service.
Also you need to enable programs in firewall so,that firewall would not slow your internet speed. Enable Private and Public in firewall section and then your speed could get faster. I hope you are using windows 10 pro. 64 Bit.
That should be the case definitely, as the games do not require as much data per sec.. depending on the game as well sometimes... The game requests only what is required and it is generally 100 KBs of data per sec.. so naturally it doesn't use all that 1.5MBps just 0.1MBps would do good Actually the gaming speed depends on the latency of your server (depending on your location or your ISP etc.) and the specs of your network drive.. check out their video on latency to get more info on that.
Fr tho but good advice I can give you is to restart your router. I did that and my 15 Mbps went back up to 230+ mbps and is working pretty well. @@nateh75 I played on my console and it didn’t go too well but I think that’s cuz I have 30+ devices that use internet. I just fixed my ps4 pro today tho by using a small trick that does kinda help. My ps4 went from lagging out and leaving the party and game every 10 mins to working smoothly for a few hours then I got off the game. Basically just turn off the ps4 then once it’s settled down press the power button until you hear it beep the 2nd time. Once it’s done I believe it should turn on by itself but if it doesn’t just turn it on again and your done. If that doesn’t work I don’t know what else to tell you but good luck.

@@phor8510 I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm surprised that your downloads were affected by a new DNS lookup. It's job is done when the download starts
it shouldn't change and unlike what a lot of people say 1.1.1.1 is not always faster it depends on your connection, for example i have 50ms ping with 8.8.8.8 but 100ms with 1.1.1.1 now if i change my dns from 8.8.8.8 to 1.1.1.1, i have to wait 50 milliseconds more when i'm opening up webpages (if it's cached) this method is a scam only change your dns if you hate your current dns provider's privacy policy or it blocks some website or it's located so much far away that your ping to it sucks so bad but this is not the case for most people 8.8.8.8 is already good enough and ISP's dns are most of the time is the fastest even though they're not recommended because they may not be as reliable as a google or cloudflare and might block some content If you still wanna change your dns server, try using a dns benchmark tool like "dnsbench" or "dnsjumper" and see which one is fastest for you
It won't change your bandwidth just your lookup query time. Which will speed things up a bit. IMO bandwidth is King. If you need to go fast buy more bandwidth.

I actually tested this using my Xbox Series X, since it displays Download/Upload/Latency and Packet loss. On my old setting, it was 89.80 Mbps download, 10.12 Mbps upload, 114 ms latency, with 5% packet loss. Using your new setting, I lost a little on download, but my upload and latency improved. 88.84 Mbps download, 11.67 upload, 69 ms latency, and 0% packet loss.
When you get this recomended now and you just imidietly notice how old it is by linus style change. Linus you are a true living chronometer. Also this allows the access to some shady internet sites
"Are you mad? Nothing can run Crysis." I read that comment a long time ago. A masterpiece I refuse to take credit for. Only wish to share. I think it's very funny!
Increase your computer internet speed 5 times over with this simple trick! Router manufacturers hate this! Just plug your Ethernet cable directly into your computer. There, now your internet is way faster and lower latency.
Even $500 router cannot compete with $5 patch cord. That's just the fact of the matter. The only reason to even have wifi is to connect your cell phone to your wired internet, and even then you run a cable from the router to the computer, not use wifi radio.
I can’t connect my router with a wire because my computer isn’t by the satellite and I can’t move my computer there: and I have a really good router but I live in the middle of nowhere connection wise. So this stuff is the best I can do
Surprising that my hometown Montgomery got this, I tried it and didn't get 10ms response time, but it was the fastest out of all the DNS servers on the benchmark. I'm really surprised and happy about this.
Parker Stephens everywhere its the fastest. DNS servers are setup everywhere, unlike ISPs. I live in Nowhere, Wisconsin and I get 15ms latency which is a lot better than the 50 I got by using default gateways, compared to having this 20mbps Internet vs Pittsburgh having Verizon FioS

Most likely, your own ISP DNS server will be the fastest because of the least hops it takes to get to that server. Also if people want to get faster internet, use a hardware adblocker and maybe a caching proxy.
Eh, people just love to rag on Linus for every reason they can think of. Some are having fun with him and his quirks (e.g. "Linus Drop Tips" or "sandals with socks" comments), some are asshole trolls just spewing out bullshit. As for this video, the topic is about how a faster DNS server can speed up the beginning of loading webpages. Which is absolutely true. Faster DNS queries lead to earlier webserver queries, even if it is less than half a second per query. Although the title is clickbait, there's no actual claim that your download speeds will increase, because they won't. Once you're connected to the server, DNS does nothing. Personally, I don't use third-party DNS servers for speed. I just don't trust my ISP at all (Cox Communications), and I trust free Wifi hotspots even less. Obviously, they can still track me if they have the systems in place for reverse DNS lookup, but maybe they're not bothering with that because hey extra work for minimal benefit. (Just a side note: Although I have used Cloudflare DNS in the past, as well as OpenDNS and Google Public DNS, my current preferred service is Quad9. That may change in the future, or I may just rotate services on a regular basis.)
For anyone wondering, this works well in Australia too. (THANK YOU so much for making this vid, I've tried for years to make my Wi-Fi better, and it got to the point where I could barely connect from my room, but now it works fine)
Sam Most of those were about faster networking, not faster Internet. Big difference. Also, if new technologies come out, why shouldn't be make another video on the topic?
Yeah, but at least on Spectrum this method seems to have actually jumped me up a few Mbps extra download from the Google DNS I'd been using previously... just sayin'. (Disclaimer: tested on Speedtest.net and just because it worked for me doesn't mean it is gonna work for everybody)
L W Your internet speed can vary depending on the time of day, because when more people in your area are using the web, it slows it down a little bit for everyone (at least for cable internet).
I recommend using the benchmark Linus said he used in the video. I used it, it searched my area for the best DNS servers. I use OpenDNS because it was teh fastest. Cloudfare was close though.
I now live in a town, but before living in a super rural area, we had one option for internet: 1mbps at 100 bucks. Now I pay 55 for 100mbps and usually get 120 and damn do I love it
i looked up free dns stuff and what the canuk forgot to mention is v6 stuff for cloud flare is Primary DNS: 2606:4700:4700::1111 Secondary DNS: 2606:4700:4700::1001 i want to 9/9 to 94/23
do a speedtest , my ping is lower and I get about an extra 3-8 Mbps on avg. I scored my highest ever Mbps speed switching to 1111 I just changed the DNS on my router UPDATE: I switched back to dynamic DNS from ISP and got the same speedtest results. So looks like no improvement after all.
@ MrKillius - Thats interesting, thanks for letting me know. @TheAgentAssassin Speedtest is useful to check your ISP is being honest, but it doesnt check speed/latency to other servers in other countries. 9 times out of 10 if your suffering loss/latency in a game the problem is somewhere between you and the server your accessing. Use Tracert from cmd prompt to check this.
DNS stands for Domain Name System (/Server) which is the idea that instead of using IP adresses to access website you use a URL that is linked to an IP. You type in the URL and your computer asks a Domain Name Server for the IP to connect to for that URL and you are sent to that webpage. This means the only thing this affects is loading webpages with a URL since it is faster to access the 1 1 1 1 Domain Name Server. If you get faster download speed then it is pure coincedence / confirmation bias because you think it speeds up Internet when it only speeds up loading a webpage.
yeh, Useless Penguin is correct ;) Of course these days a single website will have parts from multiple URLS (mostly because ads) - so a faster DNS speeds up loading those sites quite a bit, but as I said does sod all for gaming, streaming, etc. There is another advantage though we haven't mentioned, using independant DNS can get round some blocking of websites - but it doesnt stop tracking by ISP or Govt - and neither do most VPNS in case you are wondering - does tent to stop most 3rd party though.
Linus, you should pronounce it "one dot zero dot zero dot one" to avoid confusion. Believe me. I live in Indiana, and these "oh dot oh dot one" are commonly mistaken. All your other stuff is great. Sorry to offer criticism but it was intended to be constructive.

This isn't a charity service and Cloudflare isn't a charity org. As for this being some sort of advertisement, completely ludicrous statement considering Cloudflare's main customers are large businesses, not end users. This is an end user service.

Linus: "Free wifi for 30 seconds!"
the video: 8 minutes long
Whenever I'm downloading the internet speed is 1.1mb/s - 1.5mb/s
Whenever I'm playing video games the speed 700b/s 40kb/s
Also you need to enable programs in firewall so,that firewall would not slow your internet speed. Enable Private and Public in firewall section and then your speed could get faster. I hope you are using windows 10 pro. 64 Bit.
That should be the case definitely, as the games do not require as much data per sec.. depending on the game as well sometimes...
The game requests only what is required and it is generally 100 KBs of data per sec.. so naturally it doesn't use all that 1.5MBps just 0.1MBps would do good
Actually the gaming speed depends on the latency of your server (depending on your location or your ISP etc.) and the specs of your network drive.. check out their video on latency to get more info on that.
I’m getting 0.20 to 0.40 mbps
Do you have frontier too
I only get 90mb/s on a good day... very sad because I should be getting 98 dl

Fr tho but good advice I can give you is to restart your router. I did that and my 15 Mbps went back up to 230+ mbps and is working pretty well. I haven’t played on my console yet cuz I’ve been busy but the internet does seem a lot better. Before it was so bad I had to always stay on my cellular data but now I can stay on my own Wi-Fi without any fuckups.
@@animeisdope5264 i did that and my 1mbps went down to 500 kbps
@@nateh75 I played on my console and it didn’t go too well but I think that’s cuz I have 30+ devices that use internet. I just fixed my ps4 pro today tho by using a small trick that does kinda help. My ps4 went from lagging out and leaving the party and game every 10 mins to working smoothly for a few hours then I got off the game. Basically just turn off the ps4 then once it’s settled down press the power button until you hear it beep the 2nd time. Once it’s done I believe it should turn on by itself but if it doesn’t just turn it on again and your done. If that doesn’t work I don’t know what else to tell you but good luck.

better than my results, it tanked my download speed significantly
@@phor8510 I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm surprised that your downloads were affected by a new DNS lookup. It's job is done when the download starts
it shouldn't change and unlike what a lot of people say 1.1.1.1 is not always faster it depends on your connection, for example i have 50ms ping with 8.8.8.8 but 100ms with 1.1.1.1
now if i change my dns from 8.8.8.8 to 1.1.1.1, i have to wait 50 milliseconds more when i'm opening up webpages (if it's cached)
this method is a scam
only change your dns if you hate your current dns provider's privacy policy or it blocks some website or it's located so much far away that your ping to it sucks so bad
but this is not the case for most people
8.8.8.8 is already good enough and ISP's dns are most of the time is the fastest even though they're not recommended because they may not be as reliable as a google or cloudflare and might block some content
If you still wanna change your dns server, try using a dns benchmark tool like "dnsbench" or "dnsjumper" and see which one is fastest for you
It won't change your bandwidth just your lookup query time. Which will speed things up a bit. IMO bandwidth is King. If you need to go fast buy more bandwidth.

Cheap routers always sucks. If You are experienced, try some solution from Mikrotik.

Sad part is, because of the poor explanation, its gonna get flooded quite bit with people who don't even need to use a service like this.
Most likely, your own ISP DNS server will be the fastest because of the least hops it takes to get to that server. Also if people want to get faster internet, use a hardware adblocker and maybe a caching proxy.
Something going on when every single comment is negative, short and vague.

Cloudfare was close though.

faster dns does sod all for gaming btw, which goes strait of IP - BUT its a great idea for improved privacy.

I just changed the DNS on my router
UPDATE: I switched back to dynamic DNS from ISP and got the same speedtest results.
