    I watched several how-to videos on this subject, but still couldn’t work up the nerve to tackle switching my old modem to the Gateway one-until I watched this one. You did a fabulous job of explaining everything (Ethernet cables? What are those??🥴) clearly and understandably, all the way through to even locating the correct Xfinity app to download and use. I was successful on my first try. I can’t thank you enough!

      Okay, technologically challenged, here, but what is the other end of the ethernet cord attached to? I'm getting ulcers trying to set my new gateway up to my new smart tv! I've had my own modem and router for a few years, so this device that claims to be all that is confusing to me! Any help greatly appreciated, and I agree that so far this has been the most helpful video!

    Thanks for the how-to video. The Xfinity video was worthless but using your video I replaced my old, intermittently failing router with the Xfi in about a half hour, start to finish, with no issues. I did have to re-add three Wi-Fi booster pods to the network but the Xfinity app handled that easily.
    The Xfi Wi-Fi speed is triple what I had before and signal strength is strong throughout the house now. Thanks again.

    I'm about to set up my xFi Gateway, but I have a much older gateway that I'm replacing (Arris TG1682G). It uses both telephone ports and I suspect one connects back to the computer for various functions. Anyway, I'll just set up following the instructions you give, which by the way are great. Thanks!

    I've paid for Xfinity internet for the past five years, I pay for 100mbps and it's never above 30mbps unless I call and complain, then it's around 100mbps for a day or 2, and back to 30. I've called about this no less than a dozen times over the past 2 years... and the last two times they scheduled a technician to come out where I had to be home for a 2-3 hour window, and both times the technician didn't show up, didn't call, didn't care. Comcast is the most awful atrocity of customer service on the planet. Last time I spoke with them, their suggestion was that I pay more for faster speeds and lock into a 3 year contract with them. Why would I pay for faster speeds when you only give me 33% of the speed I'm currently paying for?

    • @jenniferlee7167

      They do this to customers all the time. They power down the speed. You have to call constantly to keep it where it belongs.

      Comcast sucks but this is a problem with all ISPs because you'll never get the advertised speed unless you're literally hooked up to their hardware; all ISPs have their own access points across your city/town. The further you are from it, the slower the speed.

    Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I know how to set up a modem, but the xFinity app made it seem like I had to scan the barcode first. I had a devil of a time getting to the point where you can actually activate the modem. They made it so much harder than it had to be. And for anyone who is interested, yes, you can use your existing ethernet and coax cables. I wasn't sure, but I didn't want to have to re-string everything. If anyone knows if the new cables provided add to speed or quality, please let us know.

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 2 роки тому +10

      @@dianeclayton6063 You're talking about 2 very different things. HDMI is a video cable. You use that to connect your TV to your cable TV box if you have cable TV service. If you do not have cable TV service, you don't plug an HDMI cable to your TV. If you want to connect your TV to the internet, you can usually plug in an ethernet cable to your router and TV OR most TVs have wifi built in.
      The coax cable is used to connect your modem to your internet provider. You don't usually plug in a coax cable directly to your TV anymore. If you still have cable TV service, you would plug in a coax cable from the wall to your cable TV box.

We have the Xfinity XB7 in operation, and want to optionally connect a D-Link DIR-X5460 AX5400 Mesh router to the system, so as to have both the XB7 and the AX5400 communicating with each other. For now, the incoming Xfinity signal coax comes into the house downstairs where the XB7 is located high up on a wall stand shelf to maximize range. Located upstairs, the AX5400 would act as a Wi-Fi extender for now. Possible to do ?

    My experience with Xfinity has been a terrible one. First, they did something that fried my $500+ router/modem that I bought to accommodate the 1.2-gigabit service and I have been dealing with slower speeds that my older router supplies. I called to set up to use one of their rentals rather than pay $500+ for a replacement. The next day I went to my local store during my lunch break a 35-minute drive only to find that they closed the office because their system was down. Left work early so I could make it to the store before they closed @ 5pm only to find out that they couldn't give me a router because the person on the phone from the day before didn't put in the order and they couldn't put in an order for me so I could be on my way. I asked them to call Customer Service to place the order and they said they couldn't. I called while at the counter and after about 20 minutes of trouble with the agent on the phone, I finally was handed a new router. I get home to install and everything you mentioned was in the box except the only thing I don't already have. That's right, no power supply was in my box. I will have to repeat the pain in the azz of missing my lunch break to run back to the Xfinity store to most likely have to argue my way into getting them to give me a router. You can bet your azz that I will be opening the box to make sure everything is included before I leave the store. I hate Xfinity. If there was another option for me to get high-speed internet from a different provider, I would have left them a long time ago.

      Yeah I was on the phone 2hours explaining & issue & after sheer exhaustion I googled something & hot the solution & fixed my own problem. So then I get my new gateway, set it up & use as usual. Less than a WEEK, I get an email saying I'd reached my data limit. I've had wifi for a good 20 urs & a LOT of devices that use it & never once reached that 1.2TB limit EVER. Called to find out why, got the solution the same way I did b4. She kept saying well this is higher speed so it's better, lady I understand gig speed my complaint was they didn't account for change in gig speed running through a month of data in 5 days. Why would I not expect this to be taken into account for a modem I didn't even request. I got it bcz my old one kept going in & out one night & I work online. I called , he ran a diagnostic test & said the modem I had was obsolete & they should have requested I get another sooner. So he said he'd send a new one bcz he saw our local one didn't have any . I asked if anything would change bcz I didn't want to pay more he said no everything would be the same just faster internet. I even remarked then our speed was pretty fast didn't really need that but if it's part of it, it is. Then BOOM, data limit in a week because of the higher speed on a product I didn't request. Literally just needed whatever came after the modem I had or at the very least, leave my speed where it was bcz in the next call, the lady said "ok I'll switch u back to..." whatever speed we had. So they raised my speed without permission then was going to give me more data & charge me for it without my requesting it. Hatem, haHated,, HATE THEM!

      The other end of the coax cable should plug into a female coax connector somewhere on your wall or there may be a coax cable on the wall with a male connector end that you plug into the modem. As for the ethernet cables, those plug into your devices like a computer, smart TV, game console, etc. They're not absolutely necessary as you can use wifi, but its best to plug in your devices for the best speed and reliability. Wifi is easy, convenient, usually fast and reliable, but it is a radio frequency that is susceptible to interference.

    does the modem come with wifi or is this just the box that you connect your internet cable into?

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 2 роки тому

      Yes since Comcast delivers internet service via coax. Exception would be if you happen to have their fiber internet which is unlikely as it is very expensive and has limited availability.

    That was nice but I have a unique situation where I get cr@ppy mobile signal in my apt. (that why I have the Landline). Not just my cell, anyone who comes over gets bad reception. I think I live in a black hole... And of course no WiFi (for now). so I will probably have to figure another way to set mine up. We'll see. Hopefully I'll get lucky and get a decent signal today....
