You never. Pause a Phil Collins drum solo. You've angered the gods.
And just FYI, if you ever react to Queen, the same goes for Brian May's guitar solos!
He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).
my sister went from the UK to watch Phil in Paris in 2017 as couldn't get tickets to see him in the UK, When your still getting crowds that big you know your a legend!!! absolute national treasure
60k is a mad turn out but he is highly loved by people in every corner of the globe
I was impressed that the crowd had so many young people and not just us oldies!
You don't stop when the best part of the whole song is playing. And never stop in the drum solo
I’ve watched so many reactions on this live version and I get chills every time. Love it. :)
Meeee tooooo!!!

Me too 🍀
He's listed as the best drummer of all time. Look it up.
Two words: Neil Pert. Phil is awesome, but Neil was on an entirely different level than EVERYONE.
Knew you’d like this one!!!! It’s always been a fav of mine!!
🤝💯💯💯
Just think that just the first song of a 90 minute show . The 80' s we had , the best rock , pop , metal ,hair bands hip hop and first rap song . We paved the way ...... You're welcome lol
JD...💥💥 PURE JOY💥💥 Hahahahaha 😄 🙋🌹GA USA 🇺🇸✌️
A legend Don't forget it.
Hey, I'm your new sub! You're the ONLY one I've seen put the link to the original vid in the description!! Thanks SO MUCH DOLL!!🙏
I just hit subscribe...I LOVE your energy and your enthusiasm!!
Thank you! 💪🏾❤️💯
Glad you like it, you gotta leave that pause button ALONE!!!
I think you would be blown away by the following:
You want to check out a studio song: "Bat out of hell (full version)" by Meat Loaf
or you want to see an excellent live performance: "Sultans of Swing" live at Alchemy by the Dire Straits
Lit like a nuclear bomb!!!!
Was fun watching your vid Brother!
Great reaction mate, from Oz
I been playing drums since 5 he rockin
Extraordinary camera work
Hi, Guy! I've said this before, but the main thing about covid and concerts now is how do we get back to these crowds safely! back in the day, this was how you knew that you really made it! by how many thousands could hold in one arena to see you!...and I do mean thousands!
20,000 and Phil is 53 here. A M A Z I N G.
Check out the whole concert. You will love it. Paris, France 2004 The Last Farewell Tour concert. R&B, everything.
There were close to 80,000 there
To answer your question of how many people, this seems to be Bercy, so 20 000 people are having the time of their life at that moment.
80k people
💯💯💯
Top 5 performances live just me so simple beats but went on high it pulls you in and phil voice, lirycs and performance it self 11/10 perfection
BEST live performance, ever.
GREAT reaction!
If you really want to see a stadium full of people, Lynard Skynyrd's Freebird live at the Oakland Coliseum on 7/2/77....THAT was an EPIC concert!!!
There were 80,000 at the arena. Plus your commentary.
like you and a good reaction though too many pauses ( usually 2 or 3 not 9 or 10 lol ) you enjoyed that and it was good to see though how you could pause it on the climax of his 21 shouts near the end which effectively broke the momentum surprised me :)
@JD, @6:26, I've heard THE STORY behind THIS song!!!😰 I wouldn't want to be THAT person!! Especially after he got called out in front of a stadium FULL of people!!!😵💀🎶🎤✌ let me know if you wanna hear it!!!💋
This was his farewell tour and this song was not the first song played in the show. It was played 2/3rds of the way in before he did it. And what got me upset he didn't do 2 songs in this show Hati looked more than this.
A better version is the 80th Extended Remix of In The Air Tonight. Also try Pink Floyd's Learning To Fly from Momentary Lapse Of Reason album.
One of my favorite songs of all time! Love the drums!
Have you ever react to the Japanese band name Scandal? If not you should check them out! I can give you some suggestions and links for Scandal songs, I hope you do a react video for Scandal songs soon.
80,000
Maybe you're right, but a close theatre can contain the people of a whole open stadium? About the reaction I tell you is one of the worst I've seen... don't tell him! 😁
mad this was in 2004 , some stadium in france i think, makes me feel old man
Only 8 Grammys.
Saw a couple stank faces. 👍
😂😂😂
Hey, if you really like quality live songs, then you may ( or may not ) like to listen to Nightwish Ghost Love Score !
The official video is ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.html
They are a Symphonic Metal band, but they may surprise you =). I have seen other hip hop artists react to this song, and absolutely loved it.
If your delving into the past, there is another song in mind that will surprise you called Stay by Shakespears Sister. * Edit note to this one, watch the official ( Not Live ) version of this otherwise you may not get what the song is fully about *
Think of super bowl...
The guy with the reaction should be singing and playing the drums and permitted Phil to do the reaction! Some AH f'd up the whole song! If this guy is on forget the song! He seems to be more interested in how we are going to react to his reaction! So busy with that he doesn't realize the kind of music he has been missing all along!
Debby downer YOU!
I am a 60 year old grandma who still plays the air drums when he does this song. Or on my steering wheel if I'm driving! Everyone does this, I think! LOL!
Oh me too! Im not 60 though...but if im blessed to be im sure i still will!
69 yo great gram here, and yep! Everyone does! 🥁
Well, good God in heaven! I'm 71 and I'd do the same thing. As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti!
68 years young playing air drums to this EPIC Video !!!!!! Awesome !!!! 💥💥😘
Yes we do
Us old folks love seeing you young people reacting to Phil’s Drum solo .... he can’t perform on drums anymore so his 18 year old son plays that solo now and he rocks it
Love the slow build up that FORCES everybody to slow down and get into the song. ADS look out! No instant gratification here.
Ditto
I think its funny this young man is calling Phil "that boy" when Phil was like 57 when he performed this. LOL, youth!
Insaw him 4 times in Montréal last time his nic was on the drums mr Collins was so proud u cold see it the youge people have woken up i say enjoy the ride
Phil retired in 2022 and is 74 years old.
Never. Ever. Interrupt. Phil Collins. Drum. Solo. Never!
I absolutely loved watching you enjoy this performance!! I’m 68 and I still enjoy it just as much as I did when it first came out!! It’s timeless! And you were right when you said that all of us were singing it along with you 😁. How could anyone NOT get into it 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
🖤🖤🖤
Not bad for a drummer who sings a bit... 🔥🔥🔥
Facts!
Sarcasm right?
@@davidvornsand6054 Actually a Phil Collins quote "I'm not a singer who plays a bit of drums. I'm a drummer that sings a bit."
@@benmclaurin3745 tru dat!
When that drum beat drops, Chills!
🔥🔥💯💯
From a late 60s old granny here in the UK, I would like to thank you for your appreciation of Phil Collins & his music. I loved your genuine reaction when watching the video, he is one of the greats for sure, much older now, but a Great Artist, & True Gent. Thank you luv for your words of Love for our Phil, much love to you, keep safe x❤️
Hey! Im a 60yr old granny from the UK 🇬🇧 too!
I've been a huge Phil Collins fan since I was writing "Phil Collins is God!" on my HS notebooks in th '80s. I'm from the U.S. so I don't think he'll care what I say, but perhaps if enough people from the UK ask him King Charles will finally knight this genius. I think it's long overdo that he be called Sir Phil Collins!
You remind me of myself when I first heard Phil Collins song's for the first time in 1981. I'm still a fan to this day. #80s4life ❤💜
You know we had the best music in the 80's .... All genras..... We listen to it all
4:28 There were 80,000 people attended the night of June 15, 2004 in Bercy Arena, Paris France. By the way, this concert is available in 2 DVDs bro. Keep up the good work man.
@8:27, Phil's been playing the drums since he was 5yrs old!!!❤
You CANNOT!!! ... interrupt a building crescendo within seconds of the finish! ... TIMING IS EVERYTHING!!!
That was filmed in Paris. The arena held about 20,000.
try 60k
@@its-_--_-lockie8978 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accor_Arena That is the former Palais Omnisports, which it says has a capacity of 20,300 for concerts.
80,000 strong crowd. Phenomenal on every level.
I saw this same performance live in Florida on his "First Final Farewell Tour"...simply AMAZING in person...the whole show was fantastic!!!! He ran around stage without seeming to get tired at all...and actually SANG (not synced like many current stars) and he sounds exactly like his albums in person....this is a legend for sure :) *if you aren't doing the drums/singing with him by the end, there's something wrong with you hahaha
Been listening to Phil since Genesis days!
Me too
Intense song Phil wrote this pain going through a messy divorce and a cheating wife. No longer plays drum due to wrist problems. He must be near 80 by now....well at least he leaves us with this fantastic performance plus all his music. This is raw talent even at his age...so cool.
❤️❤️❤️
No, 70
He is a songwriter, producer, plays multiple instruments, has a massive solo career after genesis, does movie music, is an actor in movies etc. And calls himself a drummer.
cannot forget the cadbury advert he also done in the gorilla suit and played the drums
There is around 85,000 people at this concert he one of greatest singed songwriters of all time and so underated a total icon
# Be Kind ❤️ # Peace To All ❤️
A very nice reaction video. I must say that as someone who really enjoys 80s music and has this song in my music library, it is very rare that I listen to it and do not pick up two pencils to drum with when that iconic moment arrives.
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord.... 🔥💕❤️
Than u for appreciate pop legends while they are still here with us
4:29 "Thats a lot of people." lol if you think this is a lot you've been living under a rock. Watch ACDC's performances live at River Plate in Argentina. There was a speculated 200 thousand fans there at the football stadium; it was crazy af.
Or Live Aid in 1981 that was full Wimbledon, a full football stadium in the US and millions of people watching it on tv in their living rooms around the world.
@@toodlescae 1&1/2 billion worldwide watched Elvis Presley's Hawaii concert in early 1970's.
@@rickrhoden1 I know. I watched it on tv when it happened. I had just seen Elvis in concert twice the previous year.

Now look for Jethro Tull, "Locomotive Breath", live.
P.s. A set of drums like that starts around $3,000!! N his don't have symbols
So, how often do you hear of that many young people going to see someone of Phil's age and had that much energy. Nobody else come to my mind except Bruce Springsteen.
and the guy from boney m lol
Billy Joel packs them in both he had Bruce will be 72 this year and Elton John will be 74 next month Status Quo in their late 60's and 70's apart from their younger guitarist, The Beach Boys still extremely popular etc the list goes on and on !!!!
this song is about him going through his divorce! check out his video with Phillip Bailey from earth wind and fire! the video separate lives with Marliyn Martin and his videos with his group Genesis!
If you liked phil on this track, may I suggest watching him sing Mama? His vocal range is immense!
Phil was also the lead singer of the band Genesis. If you think there were a lot of people at this concert, you should check out this performance of Mama at Wembly Stadium. They ended up having to do 4 concerts with around 288,000 tickets for the 4 shows altogether. ua-cam.com/video/WcfuvgQJ1pY/v-deo.html
'O7 reunion tour played to half a million people, the same night...
@@bscott5965 holy crap!!
It's on UA-cam and DVD. Shows the endless mass of concertgoers. Great concert! Wish I could've got tickets in Chicago. All 4 nights sold out in just a few hours. The '07 tour ender, was a thank you to the fans in Italy that had been there from the beginning of Genesis. It was a free concert. Ergo the half million that showed up
@@bscott5965 I’m going to have to check that out! I wonder if that’s the largest audience for one band or artist at one venue.
It's called When in Rome. The drum duet is outstanding and Phil does his tambourine dance, one last time. I believe another group had an even bigger audience. Can't remember who.
Phil wrote that song, produced it, AND played every instrument on it. HE IS THE GOAT! He was the drummer for Genesis and when the lead singer Peter Gabriel left, the band had to convince him to step up to the mic!
THE GOAT
Dude! It's a magical moment for me and I'm just watching on UA-cam. Imagine being there.
It’s better than you can ever imagine.
Loved to see your genuine appreciation for this great performance. Great reaction! Phil Collins is just incredible!
You would probably have more subscribers if you didn’t curse so much during your reactions!!! A real turnoff!!!
🥰💕I saw him 3xs. I've seen a ton of concerts and his were Always the most captivating!!👍👏👍New Subscriber here!!
On one of his tours he had to jump down to get to his drums because it didn’t come up. 😉
Watching this now saddens me so much knowing he is now seriously ill and terminal. I will die a little inside when he does as I did when Freddy Mercury and Michael Hutchison and MJ died 😭 all my favs growing up leaving for our heavenly choir.
Phil Collins was the main drummer. A very good one. G. O. A .T. (?).
We can see a classic scene with this song, on the first episode of TV show "Miami Vice" (in 1984)
37 here and has been a fan since I was a kid. I hate that I missed my chance to see him live but he will always be a favorite of mine.
Would love one day for someone to react to my letter to my family song, also bro like the energy in your reaction dude straight away
just set up my air drums!
😂😂😂
72 year old woman and here I go "air drums". I will be doing them till l'm doing them with the angels.
I saw a Phil Collins concert in the eighties and he got the same response back then. He's always been the greatest! 😊
Old school papa lol the song
I heard a lot of time a "uh, uh, uh". Why? This disturbs the whole video
You stopped it in the middle of his drumming????????????? 😖😖😖😖😖
Stopping the video.....??? REALLY......??? YOUR audience cant enjoy it with starting & stopping......Just let it play & tell at the end how you feel... Its better that way...
How about watching the original video and not a “reaction”…just a idea.
I count 25/26 beats on all my life, anyone got s different amount?
I read somewhere that this was a concert in Paris and over 80,000 there
80,000 people were there to see a legend.
🔥🔥🔥
Thou shall not pause this song seconds and minutes into this song
Imagine being in that audience. Wow.
60k people there 👌 one of the biggest
The word is SMOOTH
What a great time that was, to be alive and grow up in the 80's. Not perfect by any stretch. But in general, people were happier.
I miss it.
I agree with you …….. 100% 😘
80,000 plus
💯💯💯
Do u know this is a true story???
Don't be impatient! Ride it!
If you had of been there!!!!🤩❤👌💯
This is a great performance, and Phil Collins rocks truckloads of socks. But if you want to see someone singing while playing the drums, through the whole song, back before they had headset mikes so he was leaning to one side to sing into a stationary mike while drumming, check out "I'm in Love With My Car," Queen, from the Montreal concert in '81. Roger Taylor wrote the song and sings lead on it from behind the drum kit.
