I absolutely loved watching you enjoy this performance!! I’m 68 and I still enjoy it just as much as I did when it first came out!! It’s timeless! And you were right when you said that all of us were singing it along with you 😁. How could anyone NOT get into it 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
I am a 60 year old grandma who still plays the air drums when he does this song. Or on my steering wheel if I'm driving! Everyone does this, I think! LOL!
Us old folks love seeing you young people reacting to Phil’s Drum solo .... he can’t perform on drums anymore so his 18 year old son plays that solo now and he rocks it
Insaw him 4 times in Montréal last time his nic was on the drums mr Collins was so proud u cold see it the youge people have woken up i say enjoy the ride
He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).
From a late 60s old granny here in the UK, I would like to thank you for your appreciation of Phil Collins & his music. I loved your genuine reaction when watching the video, he is one of the greats for sure, much older now, but a Great Artist, & True Gent. Thank you luv for your words of Love for our Phil, much love to you, keep safe x❤️
I've been a huge Phil Collins fan since I was writing "Phil Collins is God!" on my HS notebooks in th '80s. I'm from the U.S. so I don't think he'll care what I say, but perhaps if enough people from the UK ask him King Charles will finally knight this genius. I think it's long overdo that he be called Sir Phil Collins!
my sister went from the UK to watch Phil in Paris in 2017 as couldn't get tickets to see him in the UK, When your still getting crowds that big you know your a legend!!! absolute national treasure
4:28 There were 80,000 people attended the night of June 15, 2004 in Bercy Arena, Paris France. By the way, this concert is available in 2 DVDs bro. Keep up the good work man.
I saw this same performance live in Florida on his "First Final Farewell Tour"...simply AMAZING in person...the whole show was fantastic!!!! He ran around stage without seeming to get tired at all...and actually SANG (not synced like many current stars) and he sounds exactly like his albums in person....this is a legend for sure :) *if you aren't doing the drums/singing with him by the end, there's something wrong with you hahaha
There is around 85,000 people at this concert he one of greatest singed songwriters of all time and so underated a total icon # Be Kind ❤️ # Peace To All ❤️
He is a songwriter, producer, plays multiple instruments, has a massive solo career after genesis, does movie music, is an actor in movies etc. And calls himself a drummer.
This is a true LEGEND at work. Phil is a world class drummer who can really sing. He is a music ICON and a true great person. I could listen to this all day long it will never get old. One of the greatest performances from any musician any where any time. This is IMMORTAL!!! Every time at the drum drop I get MASSIVE CHILLS, I am I the only 1?
Phil wrote that song, produced it, AND played every instrument on it. HE IS THE GOAT! He was the drummer for Genesis and when the lead singer Peter Gabriel left, the band had to convince him to step up to the mic!
A very nice reaction video. I must say that as someone who really enjoys 80s music and has this song in my music library, it is very rare that I listen to it and do not pick up two pencils to drum with when that iconic moment arrives.
Just think that just the first song of a 90 minute show . The 80' s we had , the best rock , pop , metal ,hair bands hip hop and first rap song . We paved the way ...... You're welcome lol
Hi, Guy! I've said this before, but the main thing about covid and concerts now is how do we get back to these crowds safely! back in the day, this was how you knew that you really made it! by how many thousands could hold in one arena to see you!...and I do mean thousands!
Intense song Phil wrote this pain going through a messy divorce and a cheating wife. No longer plays drum due to wrist problems. He must be near 80 by now....well at least he leaves us with this fantastic performance plus all his music. This is raw talent even at his age...so cool.
Phil Collins is an amazing entertainer; the whistling the blue lights & anticipation is well worth seeing this live; he has total control of the crowd; amazing best drummer I've ever heard
So, how often do you hear of that many young people going to see someone of Phil's age and had that much energy. Nobody else come to my mind except Bruce Springsteen.
Billy Joel packs them in both he had Bruce will be 72 this year and Elton John will be 74 next month Status Quo in their late 60's and 70's apart from their younger guitarist, The Beach Boys still extremely popular etc the list goes on and on !!!!
I think you would be blown away by the following: You want to check out a studio song: "Bat out of hell (full version)" by Meat Loaf or you want to see an excellent live performance: "Sultans of Swing" live at Alchemy by the Dire Straits
4:29 "Thats a lot of people." lol if you think this is a lot you've been living under a rock. Watch ACDC's performances live at River Plate in Argentina. There was a speculated 200 thousand fans there at the football stadium; it was crazy af.
Or Live Aid in 1981 that was full Wimbledon, a full football stadium in the US and millions of people watching it on tv in their living rooms around the world.
This is a great performance, and Phil Collins rocks truckloads of socks. But if you want to see someone singing while playing the drums, through the whole song, back before they had headset mikes so he was leaning to one side to sing into a stationary mike while drumming, check out "I'm in Love With My Car," Queen, from the Montreal concert in '81. Roger Taylor wrote the song and sings lead on it from behind the drum kit.
Watching this now saddens me so much knowing he is now seriously ill and terminal. I will die a little inside when he does as I did when Freddy Mercury and Michael Hutchison and MJ died 😭 all my favs growing up leaving for our heavenly choir.
There were 75,000 in the audience that night. He sold out that stadium four nights in a row. In Rome in 2007, with Genesis, he had 500,000 on one night.
If I'm not mistaken, that crowd was in excess of 30,000 people. Not quite Genesis-When In Rome concert (575,000 people), but still pretty freaking amazing.
this song is about him going through his divorce! check out his video with Phillip Bailey from earth wind and fire! the video separate lives with Marliyn Martin and his videos with his group Genesis!
Phil was also the lead singer of the band Genesis. If you think there were a lot of people at this concert, you should check out this performance of Mama at Wembly Stadium. They ended up having to do 4 concerts with around 288,000 tickets for the 4 shows altogether. ua-cam.com/video/WcfuvgQJ1pY/v-deo.html
It's on UA-cam and DVD. Shows the endless mass of concertgoers. Great concert! Wish I could've got tickets in Chicago. All 4 nights sold out in just a few hours. The '07 tour ender, was a thank you to the fans in Italy that had been there from the beginning of Genesis. It was a free concert. Ergo the half million that showed up
It's called When in Rome. The drum duet is outstanding and Phil does his tambourine dance, one last time. I believe another group had an even bigger audience. Can't remember who.
Never. Ever. Interrupt. Phil Collins. Drum. Solo. Never!
I have sat in my car. My husband is what are you doing? Waiting for my drum solo.😂
You never. Pause a Phil Collins drum solo. You've angered the gods.
And just FYI, if you ever react to Queen, the same goes for Brian May's guitar solos!

I saw a Phil Collins concert in the eighties and he got the same response back then. He's always been the greatest! 😊

Oh me too! Im not 60 though...but if im blessed to be im sure i still will!

Yes we do
Us old folks love seeing you young people reacting to Phil’s Drum solo .... he can’t perform on drums anymore so his 18 year old son plays that solo now and he rocks it
Love the slow build up that FORCES everybody to slow down and get into the song. ADS look out! No instant gratification here.
Ditto
I think its funny this young man is calling Phil "that boy" when Phil was like 57 when he performed this. LOL, youth!
Insaw him 4 times in Montréal last time his nic was on the drums mr Collins was so proud u cold see it the youge people have woken up i say enjoy the ride
Phil retired in 2022 and is 74 years old.
