The concert we're watching here was at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy, in June 2004. At the beginning he recalls a meeting with someone for whom he obviously has no respect (Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am. I was there and I saw what you did...I saw it with my own two eyes (In his mirror). So you can wipe off that grin...I know where you been. It's all been a pack of lies.) He's referring, of course, to himself and not to some imaginary other. His lowest point in life (drowning) through his answered prayers for success (I can feel it comin' in the air tonight, oh Lord) to his eventual stardom (I've been waiting for this moment all my life) brought him here to share with you and me the one thing that we're all afraid of...failure vs success. The melody is haunting, the atmosphere follows suit, the lyrics touch all of our hearts and the climax is...well, you tell me!

Passion is definitely the right word. The thing I always think when I see a live performance like this, on top of how amazing the music might be, is to remember that he has performed this song live a thousand times and he still brings that amount of intensity and emotion to it and just absolutely carries that crowd away like it's the first time he ever sang it.
