Like them or hate them, go see tool. The precision and dedication to perfection is a life changing experience. This performance reminds me of the effort put into tool shows. Phil Collins is a living legend and it's great to see people still appreciating that.
The studio version was recorded in 1981 Phil Collins was 29 years old..... This live version was in 2003...he was 53 years old.... he is 71 in 2022....
I like how Phil sets everyone up. He looks like a normal office looking joe blow, just casually walking, and singing so effortlessly. Then he goes upstairs, and turns into a beast on the drums. Got to love it!
I'm 75 yrs old and still get goosebumps when I watch this performance by Phil! He's so awesome! I love his voice and so talented on the drums. I'm so saddened that he can't perform any more due to his illness. Phil you are loved so much. Bless you! ❤️❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️❤️
Your reaction was PRICELESS 🤗 I'm 65 yrs old and I still get big time goosebumps when listening to this song. Thanks for listening to my generations music & loving it as I do. ✌️&❤️ my friend 😊
Nothing like the oldie goldies that's where you find all the icons legendary singers love Phil Collins happy i grew up in his times powerful performance by all the musicians ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Phil is one of my absolute favorite musicians, songwriters and singers.....the exclusive club of the few ppl who can actually sing and play an instrument and perform the songs they wrote by themselves...
It's more about what kind of artists than about what time in history. Modern jazz artists never use any of that, for instance, while many pop artists used autotune in the 1990s and lipsync (playback) back in the 1960s.
I've just recently been watching reactions of younger people to many of the songs that I grew up with. I have heard from so many people after listening to these songs saying, I think I grew up in the wrong era lol :) Your reaction was priceless... thank you!!!
Y'all have JUST been SCHOOLED by the GREAT Phil Collins young man!! That EPIC DRUM RIFF...🔥🔥🔥 just casually sits DOWN and LIGHT'S THE PLACE UP!!! Gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME and NEVER EVER gets old...🔥❤🔥❤🔥
As an old fart who hit this stuff the first time through, I am SO MANY KINDS of here for the young generations getting introduced to the classics. True fact; Leland Sklar, the bassist, has looked like freakin’ Gandalf the wizard since the early 80s with that beard/hair rig. Man has had his shit dialed in for years. Check out the “Susudio” video, if you ain’t already. Stay safe, my guy.
I was smiling watching you react to this! I love it when young people take the time to really appreciate the musical genius of those who came before! You are right - the musicians of the 70’s and 80’s brought a lot of passion to their craft! Good luck with your channel! I will definitely be back!
He was the drummer from the band Genesis then he became the the lead singer, then went solo. I think this concert was 2009. He was in his 60s I think. He's a freaking legend.
Great react!!! He is a Legend! I've watched other reactions... several times & it never gets old!!! I get goosebumps....every time!!! Lol. Glad to see Phil's legacy will go on with younger generations!!!
S. Turner I have seen phil and genesis in concert and this guy surprised me how great he was live and this why he is called a legend. He has so much passion when singing and the drums don't get me started on that. Only thing can say is wow wow wow to phil and genesis.
This was 2004, this song is 40 yrs old, written in 1980 by Phil in his home studio, he wrote the lyrics, played all the instruments, keyboard, strings and percussion and sang. Incredible huh?
Definitely incredible! Most people don't realize how hard it is to play the drums and sing at the same time. The crazy thing is that he was only the drummer for Genesis. After the lead singer quit the band. Phil wanted to be the main singer. And sure enough he reached his goal!
Phil Collins is one of my favorite musician legends of all-time! His music will strip your soul! Been a fan since I was 10 when I first heard this song in 1981. Still a fan at 49. #80s4life 🎤🎧🎼🎵🎶🎹🎺❤
Our Phil has collaborated with so many artists down the years. From a bad ass rock drummer with Genesis, to a jazz fusion band called Brand X, to Motown with Earth wind and fire, to rappers. He just loves music, but Motown in particular is his passion. He's a really nice person too. When a rapper contacts him and asks if he can do a cover, not only does he say yes, he says how can I help!
January 1981 Phil wrote, produced and performed this single in a very subdued UK environment with 'some' attention but not at the the level it's risen to today. The concert we're watching here was at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy, in June 2004. At the beginning he recalls a meeting with someone for whom he obviously has no respect (Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am. I was there and I saw what you did...I saw it with my own two eyes (In his mirror). So you can wipe off that grin...I know where you been. It's all been a pack of lies.) He's referring, of course, to himself and not to some imaginary other. His lowest point in life (drowning) through his answered prayers for success (I can feel it comin' in the air tonight, oh Lord) to his eventual stardom (I've been waiting for this moment all my life) brought him here to share with you and me the one thing that we're all afraid of...failure vs success. The melody is haunting, the atmosphere follows suit, the lyrics touch all of our hearts and the climax is...well, you tell me!
I only have one word. PHE-NO-ME-NAL. This performance will Never be duplicated, By NOBODY. PHIL COLLINS IS A LEGEND. By the way. Love your reactions. Keep up the great work.
I wish I had seen this concert. But I did get to see him in 2018. And while his voice wasn't the greatest, it was still Phil Collins. His son was playing drums for him and is amazing. Thanks for this reaction. Great as always!
Epic Phil Collins is the Man he plays other musical instruments, Guitar, Piano, & others besides his Iconic Drums, writes music, songs, he is so talented his Voice is exceptional we are honoured to witness all he can do, Brilliant ♥️♥️🎶🎶🎶
You are the first one I've seen react to this that didn't feel the need to stop the video over and over. Thank you--it was wonderful to see you react to the entire performance without breaking the buildup and the anticipation!
Man I appreciate your reaction to this youngblood. He's an icon. You see why people pay big bucks to attend. Worth 200 or 300 to acts like this throw down live. Sounds better in person than in the studio.
Phil is a legend and so are you. Thank you for giving this music the respect it deserves. This track easily goes down as one of the best in rock history and this live version is second to none.
great and honest reaction straight from the heart. loved it. As for Pjil and this song live .. perfect. Eveything. The arrangement, the staging, the lights in sync, the theatrics, the looks, and of course Phil .. everything . Wow
This is just scratching the surface of his career, dig into the beginnings with genesis, his work on the album abacab was driving and very progressive, maybe their only work of art after the years with peter gabriel. Yes, phil was also an innovative and well respected drummer all thru his career
Bruh, that was SO good to see someone in your age group {which Im completely guessing, obviously), really, truly appreciate a masterpiece like This; British Artist, Phil Collins, known as one of the most accomplished drummers alive, really doing his thing. Massive respect to you for your musical tastes and choices 🙏🇬🇧🇺🇸
So glad you did this reaction. Think about how hard it would be to play drums and sing lead at the same time. Love this reaction you did a wonderful job, hope to see more Phil Collins reactions.✌💜🎶
Passion is definitely the right word. The thing I always think when I see a live performance like this, on top of how amazing the music might be, is to remember that he has performed this song live a thousand times and he still brings that amount of intensity and emotion to it and just absolutely carries that crowd away like it's the first time he ever sang it. That's true performance.
I am almost 50. I get chills he starts climbing the stairs. It’s entertaining seeing younger generations experiencing the music from the 70’s and 80’s that I grew up with. Check out Martina McBride “ Concrete Angel” Not a fun video but powerful message. Keep up the great reviews
errr,he actually began in the 60's and progressed through the greatest era ever for music. a musical chameleon, much like Bowie, changing with the times and leading the way, although totally different artists. I'm British with so many things to be proud of but our music ! oh God our music,is the greatest gift we have ever given to the world. Proud.
You will NEVER hear this song the same way again 😂 when that drum beat drops you will understand why this is the BEST version
They don't have concerts like this anymore, because they don't make music like this anymore.

todays era has to be the worst EVER,and i thought the 90's was shit !
Real shit bruh.

Phil Collins is a musical legend. But even more important: he is good people. He gives a lot to charity. Thank you, Phil. ❤️
He is bleeding his heart out. Raw emotions. You can feel his hurt so damn deep. Compare this to artists today?

This is from his 2004 Concert Finally Farewell Tour in France. The entire concert is well worth watching it I'm honest.
Art at it's Finest!!
Talk about TALENT you just saw it. But our generation had sooo many truly talented people. Great times!!!!
Can you imagine being a drummer and auditioning for Phil Collins?

I'm so glad I've seen him live three times. Huge Phil, Peter, Genesis fan since childhood.
Concert was 2004. The whole concert is on UA-cam and it is just as intense as this one song.

That color blue is my favorite color. Hypnotic. Such a great performance.
Megan. You are a Girly. It's PINK for you BY LAW :)
It's my favourite colour with Yellow, as well :)
Collins gets better with age. Soul. Nailed it. ROCKED.
This live version is perfection
It's so awesome watchin young people today discover some of the best music ever produced. This song is over 30 yrs old and still ROCKS.
He was a great great composer and a complete artist.
