Almost 80,000 there that night!! I traveled from Indianapolis,Indiana to Paris, France for that concert!! I have been blessed to have heard Phil Collins in concert! I am now 74yo. And remember it like it was yesterday!!
This was when we had musicians that were master's at their craft. Thank God for UA-cam so if you're too young to have lived it you can still experience it. Phil Collins was the drummer and lead singer for the English rock band named Genesis formed in 1967. I remember very well because it was the year I graduated high school and I loved rock bands as well as many other genres of music. 1960s, 1970s, 1980s was rich with talent. Enjoy!! And yes my brother.... We did get moist !! 😂😂
Phil Collins is a drummer...Thats what makes this special, he is a drummer who can sing and write, so he is able to actually express the emotions through the drums, from his heart, they both beat..
It makes me smile when I see younger people getting so excited about the music I was lucky enough to grow up with. I'll be 58 in December, my wife and I saw Phil Collins in Grand Rapids, Mich. around 2004. Hey, next time a concert you think you'd like to see..Just DO IT! You will not regret it, Cheers mates.
Phil said in an interview "I wrote the lyrics spontaneously. I'm not quite sure what the song is about, but there's a lot of anger, a lot of despair and a lot of frustration. He wrote the song amid the grief he felt after divorcing his first wife in 1980.

That's a shame with Peter Frampton retiring and other older Guys having problems. I saw his first ever Top Of The Bill performance with Genesis in Croydon, S E London in 1972 with 3,000 others when the original Bill Toppers " Bell 'n Arc" Disbanded 2 days b4 the gig and they were thrust forward and never looked back :)
It always amazes me how Phil can drum that hard and sing that hard at the same time. One is hard enough to do at his level. To sing and drum simultaneously at Phil's level though? It's almost inconceivable.
This is the only song that I've seen reactors give a standing ovation for lol..he nailed that. That's about as close to a perfect performance as you can get
This performance is even more special than it appears. Phil had back surgery and can no longer perform this drum solo. I think his son has stepped up and assumed the role of “beat dropper”
His son is touring as his drummer, and he is amazing in his own right for such a young man. I caught the concert in Tampa last year and even though he sat, it was still magical!
The synchronization between Phil and Nic on this song, in the live performances I’ve seen posted, is just amazing. It is virtually impossible to tell any difference between this performance from 2003 or 2004, and what we hear now with Phil and Nic during the Not Dead Yet tour from 2016 to 2019, when Nic was 15 to 18. With the announcement of Genesis’ The Last Domino? Tour, Nic officially became the drummer as a full member of a Genesis at age 19; ironically the same age Phil was when he cofounded Genesis.
With Genesis, he played four consecutive sell-out nights at the 80,000-capacity Wembley Stadium in London in July 1897. The four nights was a record at the time.
Phil Collins is one of the greatest underrated artists of all time. He is what people like to call a true artist.
