  • Guild vs Guild has been officially removed from Forge of Empires. This browser-only feature, once booming and filled with players, declined in popularity, eventually leading to its removal. Here, we take a look at the history of the feature, what caused it to fail, and what remains now that it is gone.

the hate I feel losing this. been gvg for 8 years, but gave you the thumbs up for sharing the content at just the right time. It always felt like a fight on 2 fronts: opposing players as well as crashing servers and UI failures :) boy I miss the division in guild between farmers and fighters... when cities were so small you had to count on guildmates to provide the goods for you to fight, or you had to sideline while waiting for fighters to efficiently use your goods. Such a great time, and was a perfect distraction during the c--vid lockdowns..

I remember those early days, GvG was the only reason I tried the browser version of the game, never really got into it too much as the map was always dominated by more powerful guilds. If you wanted to be a serious player back then you had to play GvG. Great video to send it off.

I think you forgot one point in your analyze: GvG was also removed because the only things you could spent were guild goods ans units. No diamond, no PF. So nothing sold by Inno to make money. They had nothing to gain with that feature. No matter for the players, it wasn't P2W. End of the story. It was also the only feature where you didn't earn anything personlay, you were playing for the guild (and your ranking).

    • @UBERnerd14
      @UBERnerd14  4 місяці тому +1

The "payment" was there, it was just indirect. Building a core group of players who habitually play the game daily is extremely good for then selling those players items. They'll buy event buildings and diamonds and such, even if they don't need them to spend in GvG. Not to mention, social aspects of a game accomplish quite a bit for retention. If there were more people playing GvG and it was actually a feature that was a part of the core game, I don't think they'd have removed it. If anything, they'd actually have reinvested into it. But the playerbase was already so small that there was no incentive to do so.

@@UBERnerd14 I think what Inno failed to notice though, for every 5 players that did GvG religiously, their 'begging' the guild at large for resources did help keep loyalty and dedication to the game. In one week, we've seen our GbG participation drop off and QI is a ghost town. My guild had 8 players with gvg experience, but only 3 that were reliable every day. That said though, we also had 20-30 players feeding goods, medals, and GB leveling to keep those 3 players 'fed.' The game will see, in a few months, if they gored their golden goose or not...

Oh, that explains why my discord server died after I had quit the game awhile ago.
Removing this is funny. It was the only thing keeping most of the players I knew playing at all

GvG was the best way to socially connect with other players in your guild,
wich didnt help IG profits but did make the game alot more enjoyable for many that did play it i think,, and it was all for the team! not to reward any single player,.
it wont ever be replaced all we can hope is that we can learn from its failures and take some of the goods thing from it,
and impliment it into the new features we have like QI or GBG.

As someone who plays almost exclusively on mobile I'm glad it's being replaced by a new feature where both PC and mobile players are fighting under the same conditions. But I can understand that some are very sad because for some players it has been a ritual to fight in the GVG for years.

  • @ep9296

For us as a Guild it's been a sad day ..... we had even though GbG is now the focus half the guild (40) people to show up and win the eternal ranking. It is what it is and I hope Inno introduces again a feature that requires human interaction in Discord or whatever comes next. It's been 10 years of fun!

Sad Uber that your world didn’t engage. Not the same in my world. It was a big part of who were (now) were. 15-20 people a night online out of 60. There were a lot of other guilds with similar, and we had a very active / dynamic map in each age (sometimes one would be abandoned for a short while). The actual strategy needed was vastly superior to anything else FOE because you can only make some much progress each day. Those with better strategists were the leaders on the map. We ended first, just like it should be, 10k above second place and we’re proud of that. Lots of years, fights, and friendships borne on the field of battle. You’re right, nothing Inno has is like it. And unfortunately, they don’t seem to have the creativity to come up with something reasonable to replace it. Quantum Excretions looks like another big time/goods suck that involves little strategy, so “everyone, can participate and get a trophy.

what games do people play that are similar structurally to FOE 4 years ago? Its been a decade playing a single game and I think it's time to move on, but really like the city building / fight aspect. Played Lord of Ultima until it was shut down, there was another game based on the British Isles map, with a 'new server' 10 years ago based on the American map. can't remember the name of that game though. Wondering what's out there to scratch the itch that Inno decided it's worth scratching...

Cant speak for other servers , BUT EN5 was pretty much always active and well used and loved . There are many EN5 players , who will miss this buzz . I played it from the very beginning , and played it pretty hard right up until 2022 .Yes, the earlier years were the best , but even in 2024 , it remained the BEST feature of the game , and by far the best team aspect and tactical aspect . I cant stand the click fest that is GbG , and QI looks utterly lame . = THE END . .ICE.

GvG was the best part of FoE, since it required thinking skills, strategy and tactics. You really had to plan ahead, and give thought about what the other guilds might do, and therefore try to anticipate their every move, and then plan yours accordingly. Sort of like chess, but then with not 1 but multiple adversaries. I guess it's that high level of intelligence one needed to play GvG that Innogames can't pull of anymore. The developer of GvG Anwar Dalati, may he rest in peace, obviously could. Such a great loss. Now all we got is mindless clicking...

It’s not really a game or even a strategy to mindlessly click autobattle. Then Skype about it and plan on where to autoclick next. How about for a suggestion, the battles are mandatory. Then we can weed out the autozombies versus the actual gamers. It’s not a skill to come in third place by yourself when all you did was click a billion times.
