- Remember Guild Expeditions (GE) in Forge of Empires? This week, GE64 has been shaken up! A new, fifth level has been added to the Expeditions, taking us away to a lush jungle full of the hardest fights in the game, with the chance to win buildings like the Feathered Serpent, Forgotten Temple, and even new versions of the Ritual Flame (the Greater Ritual Flame) and the Sacred Sky Watch (Divine Sky Watch). Interestingly, you will now have to fight with your city's defense boosts. The good news is that you can build fortifications to help out... but are they worth it? That's not all though - rewards for the previous four levels have been reworked!
Now, you'll get much more fragments for everything, even for normal Guild Expeditions buildings like the Terrace Farm (TF) or Tribal Square. Additionally, the GE diamonds have been reduced to only about 81 per week. The Fountain of Youth (FoY) is also much harder to get, making the Temple of Relics (ToR) possibly worthwhile?

I play on my cell phone and hadn't realized that the Greater Ritual Flame and the Feathered Serpent Statue provide both Attack AND Defense bonuses. :)
I'm in SAM now and I only consider the Forgotten Temple and the Feathered Serpent Statue with Serpent Feather chains to be worthwhile buildings from GE. That's not to say that the others aren't worthwhile for lower-age cities, but at this point, none of the others are efficient uses of space in my own city. I have been completing GE level 5 every week since it first became available.
More specifically, I absolutely love the Forgotten Temple because my first consideration when planting new buildings in my city has always been the number of forge points per square the building provides. By the time I was in the Colonial Age, I wouldn't consider a new building unless it produced at least 1 forge point for every 2 squares of space it occupied. My city now produces about 1,500 forge points per day. With the 20% addition of the Forgotten Temple, that number increases to about 1,800. It also provides excellent military bonuses - better than any building other than GBs!
I have wished (and still do) that the Greater Ritual Flame was a 3rd level upgrade to the original Ritual Flame. That would make it an excellent building. I thought all it did was provide +7% Attack bonus for my City Defenders. As a result, I have been selling them in the AD. Now that you have made me aware that they provide +7% Attack AND Defense bonus to my City Defenders, I'll have to reconsider their worth. That is a +14% total bonus to my City Defenders' military prowess as compared to a +12% bonus provided by a level 2 Ritual Flame. It may be worth replacing my level 2's with the Greater Ritual Flame. Not much of a difference, but some small increase. Of course, I'd still prefer that they made the GRF a level 3 upgrade to the level 2 RF (with just a +7% Att bonus added).
Regarding the Serpent Feather Chains: They produce 20 goods for only 4 spaces. That's even better than my Sleigh Builders. The Feathered Serpent Statue provides excellent bonuses/rewards for its size, so that combination works well, in my opinion.
Finally, I want to emphasize something you mentioned briefly, either in the video or in the comments below. If you need lower-age goods, just leave some of your event buildings or Sleigh Builders, etc. in a lower age - don't One-Up or Renovate them. They will continue to produce goods of the age they are in. That goes for chain kits like Roads to Victory, Iridescent Gardens, Serpent Feathers, Freight Cars, etc. You can upgrade the main building and leave those chain attachments at their lower age and the main building will produce lower age goods when it collects from the chain attachments. There are some attachments that automatically age-up with the main building. Those include the Begonia Bench and Autumn Scarecrow with the Harvest Barn and the Magenta Arch and Sapphire Arch with the Butterfly House. This conveniently saves the need for so many One-Up Kits, but prevents you from leaving those attachments at a lower age if you Renovate the main building.

There are plenty of options for goods these days. The Tower of Whispering Horrors from the Halloween Event is fantastic (but too late now to get it). In the next event, there will be some more options... including one with nearly three times the goods production of the Sleigh Builder, while still only being 3x2.
Keeping any goods building at a lower age is an inefficient use of space. You can simply trade down to get lower goods.
Make trading down part of your regular production maintenance by posting a series of 1 for 2 trades for the level below at reasonable size like 25 for 50 and let them sit in the trader. People will take trades even if it costs fp when they are desperate so fill that need and have lower age goods constantly trickling in.

I finished it after your video. I had to pace for the Diplomatic Gifts. My farm produces enough to negotiate all the way, but the number of diamonds and goods spent is not worthed for me. We'll see if any improvement comes in a few weeks. If it somehow starts to get linked in other parts of the game where you do need to do it, then will be a game ender. Just mho.
Built my city so had the same progression of red and blue score - took a couple of weeks need to get used to it, now it’s done in a day.
nice informative video. Yes i finished GE lvl 5 before your video :) lvl 5 finished by negs and it cost ~1K each goods current and prev era = 10K goods :DDDD and im only in progressive era. But i think its a good change for the game need to replan city to add more goods production or stronger deff. Probably ppl start build unpopular GBs like DealC or SBC and chose event buildings more carefully not only att.
yeah right... it's so nice, now I'm just gonna demolish most of my attack buildings that I spent so much time to acquire just because they try to bait us changing the meta.

The forgotten temple makes it totally worth it.
Combine 20% + BG. FP making machine.
Add the military boosts for gbg - and you have a really powerful building.
And every one of those selection kits goes straight into the antique dealer

Was expecting a poke at the lvl 4 kit image including the FoY, yet not offering it.. oh well. Oh and the 20% FP boost affects already 3FP productions, yielding +1 due to rounding. 😁
Didn't know the 3 FP thing. Meant it more as a "this is how big 20% is" rather than "this is when it starts" anyways, but good to know!

I have a question about forgotten temple , if my building provide 8 fp and 20 % is 1.6 fp , it's gonna round up to 2 extra fp or it's gonna round down to 1 extra fp ?

I’ve having a lot of difficulty in level 5 in vf era. My attack and defense are dropped in this level. I’ve been trying to negotiate but running out of diamonds. Am I doing something wrong?
Probably not. It's meant to be hard. If you're getting stuck on negotiations, I'd avoid using diamonds to buy extra attempts, and just either take the hit and try again, or wait for next week. Make sure you're using the tavern boost for an extra attempt!

On my secondary world I noticed the serpent only gives 15 attack and not 15 attack and defense for attacking armies. Was this a change ? I finished it in my previous world as I thought with it being a LMA city a whole bunch of serpents would give me a good boost in gbg etc. I am thinking though too if getting the GT and LOA in the mud for extra goods generation then trade down at a discount.
It does still give defense for attacking. If you are on mobile, it can be hard to see the shield though
I would hold off on GB for goods - once you hit ME, they'll switch over to unrefined goods. You'd be better off with sleigh builders, a star gazer (for previous era goods), or a chateau Frontenac to complete quests for current era goods.
I agree on the Cf. I have it at a level 45 atm. Star gazer is a good one for sure. I was on my Chromebook for the serpent and only saw the 15 attack. Who knows. I’ll pile up on those. I do enjoy your channel
I’m most likely getting all 800 for the full Fountain kit before I get 1 Terrace Farm upgrade. So there’s that.
My defense was good so I am able to fight without any extra boost. I only have to negotiate the last 3 or 4. I like having the ritual upgrade kit. The buildings that are heavily fragmented I don’t even use.
You're seriously missing out if you don't use the Forgotten Temple. It's a very powerful building.

Tried lvl 5 for 2 months had to neg my way through as My city is all attack /attack defence, more to do with 4yrs play without needing defence as it didn't stop being plundered etc. Wont be doing ge lvl 5 till I get defence lvls up
Good news is at least a lot of event buildings are giving defense boosts now
My guild (in Korch) won't even open GE2, so it's doubtful I'll ever see GE5 or higher.
Sounds to me like you should find a new guild. Good guilds should be opening at least up to level 4 weekly.
it would be great if they added castel points to the first four levels if you do not have the castel fully leveled
I believe you get castle points. 15 per big encounter on Level 1, 30 on Level 2, 45 on Level 3, etc.

That's intentional. It's meant more as motivation for players buying diamonds rather than to be easy to complete in a normal length of time.
I think level 4 is very hard. I have not tried 5 yet.
See what I don't understand is Wishing Wells and Fountain of Youths are the exact same (except for design) so why is it 800 fragments when Wishing Wells are 15? Seems pretty even. Lol.

they have to reduce the goods cost or lighten up a bit the opponents boost. Or maybe both! Inno's choice to suddenly come back years ago to city defence is not so surprising! When they saw that all of us deleted city defence cause it was useless , the made it usefull again so money will be spent for those who are in a hurry to make gE5 ! for us , that have patience, we ll wait and by time to time new buildings will arrive in our cities with both red and blue attack, and eventually we might be able to finish it. The Tower of Conjuction has 4 elements of attack (red attack red defence blue attack blue defence) , the Panda has both red blue attack, the Trading Post has 3 elements... and so on... maybe in a year non spenders we will be able to get closer to 80... for now not even unlock it :)

Unless they change and enable better rewards, i am never doing lvl 5 again. Not worth it at all. And the fragments are just anoying
Dear Karl, I have to say that in general the idea of level l5 is quite interesting but....it is not possible to complete for majority of players (even for the most experienced ones). If you don't spend diamonds you won't be able to finish it! As a result it is not funny anymore....so, I recommend to reconcider to make it more accesible, otherwise you will slowly start losing players.

@@UBERnerd14 For me its terrible because I dont really produce goods. Have barely any AF goods (my age), no goods buildings, 16 GT, 6 RAH, 8 SMB, 9 TT, all very low. Usually I have to nego the last ~8 encounters and I like to help guild on low SC sectors with negos.
I'd recommend picking up some sleigh builders. The problem though is the previous era goods since you can't one-down buildings, so maybe Stages of Ages? They're available during this anniversary event.

@@average76ersfan21 5K of each isn't a good stock for FE. You should be able to produce/get more. FE goods are very popular, either for the arc or for trade downs (can't really offer SAJM goods to new players lol, they don't have the necessary friends to trade those) So there really is no downside at producing large amount of them :)

well, now I feel very foolish. Not only have I won many Fountain of Youth(s) I have sold them in the exchange for coins. Oh Yes, and the Sacred Sky thing is sold too. :(
You aren't foolish. Inno just screwed us over. Playing this game is like living the the Disney version of the Star Wars universe. At any moment everything you have worked so hard to build can evaporate into thin air and become irrelevant bc Inno is happy to just change the rules.
all these years we were developing an offensive city for gvg and later for the battle fields we erased great basil n deal castle ftom our cities and now you add this silly 5 level guild expedition to do what ?to reward few players who created huge defense so no one can plunder them ? the worst change yoy made till now take care you will make many players to stop playing like this
You don't need defense. You can just negotiate. Sure, it's 10k goods, but that's not that hard to produce these days.

So, Innogames would like us to remove the attack boost buildings in favor of more goods and city defense. But to what end? Right now, only to play GE5, which slowly boosts our city defense, to .... play GE5?
Not necessarily, the GE buildings give plenty of attack, and FP, so it's not a terrible investment. You don't even have to use defense - just negotiate.
I think its a pure grabage money grab. Why release something so incredibly unbalanced. Its like working your whole life to build savings and they turn around and say oh yeah all your goods and power are now gone and you get to start from scratch again, good luck and enjoy the game.
I find it interesting that you need to rely on the defense boosts. The problem is, until recently (I haven't played in like a year) everything was focused on attack attack, to the point that a few years ago, there was no way to identify buildings that increased attack for defense units. I built my city with that mentality and now I'm paying the price of barely making it 4 fights in level 5.😂
@@OistheOne Well as an update 1yr after my comment I have rebalanced my city building everything I could to boost defense and defense attk while continuing to up atk as well. Ge 5 is finally a breeze, but it took almost a full year to accomplish..
Let's be honest, inno has become so greedy. Reducing diamonds and all good rewards to make you spend money to get rewards. They're doing a VERY good job at destroying a fun game. Giving crap rewards in the first 3 levels of the GE and very few diamonds in the 4 th level. 5th level is a joke.
that's coz the company is loosing money apparently and in order for any company to survive they will need to make profits so by this it make sense for INNO to adjust and adhere to what may seem like a greedy business strategic.
He could cut to the chase by saying the rewards plain a$$ suck ! (period) As to level 5 WOPR said it best "...sometimes it is best not to play. How about a game of chess?"

This is only a game. This is only a part of the game. It's easy. Just Don't Play GE Level 5. Problem solved.
