Ghostly strike is also one of the best abilities for HC as well. Literally never felt safer the whole way up. Also suggested to not use daggers all the time, even as Sub, even with the Ambush build. Eventually Ambush falls off and you wont be using it much outside of on Humanoids, since you get cheaper Cheap Shots/Garrotes and higher dmg bleeds overall.
Yeah, I disagree with most of this guide entirely. Rogue is definitely, without an argument of any kind, the safest and easiest class to (carefully) level with. Other classes can level 'normally' (without trying to never die) easier and with less brain cells, and can do it much faster, but Rogue is the outright safest class in general if you're trying to level to 60 without ever dying. Vanish is arguably the best survival CD in the game, because it ends combat and you are made invisible to mobs while still being able to move. Evasion, kick, improved gouge, killing most enemies before they can even hit you once, stealth being in a league of its own in terms of power/utility, all make Rogue a very safe and easy Hardcore class to level as. You obviously have to know what you're doing and Vanish won't save you from big mistakes, but Rogue is probably S tier at Hardcore leveling. Plus you can Gouge juggle or crippling poison kite a lot of elite mobs. Hell, a lot of troublesome mobs can be Blinded so you can escape them.
@@DylanColeman-p7c Problem is, while as a rogue main I think the same way, for new players the rogue isn't as easy to play as for example a mage or hunter. Why tho? First of all, rogue is still a melee class wearing nothing but leather. You will get chunked by mobs, which isn't a huge problem in most cases. But there are certain mobs who use execute. As veteran player you may know them. As a new player mostly not. Stealth tends to be one of this abilitys, who will kill many players. Stealthing into a cavern or behind some mobs, just to pull them, is classic. Same goes for vanish. One dot, one bleed is enough to kill you. Tip for those doing the poison quest (at least the Horde version): you need your lockpicking higher than the level you need it to complete the lockpicking introduction quest. I'm not sure at what level you need it, because I didn't go back and try to pick it every 5 skill points, but you should probably get most of the points that are available in the first location that has the fast respawning boxes. If you don't have high enough lockpicking, you'll have to come back later and kill the boss again. If you have to do that, I don't recommend trying to sap the boss and pick the lock while he's sapped, because he broke the sap early twice in a row right when it was about to finish. I jumped out of the tower one of those times and barely survived the fall. The second time I just vanished.
Actually with the other starting zone now in effect, you get the poision quest almost at the start. It works about the same for Horde or Alliance. Stealth is given pretty early as well. You'll find it easier.
Thanks, there are some very valuable info here. For example when I was playing rogue my IQ fell below the threshold to realize that I could use a stealth+equip dagger macro or to use distract for survivability purposes.
So I found quite literally one time expose armor is useful: The Elites in Un'Goro actually have quite a lot of armor, and it is possible to farm them quite decently and on VERY low level gear if you are a combat Savant. However, you have no business doing this in Harcore, so you won't do that.
Hit 20 yesterday on my HC sub rogue. Im going full stealth talents and dont care if i ever get to level 50. I've been going super slow and careful. Went skinning and herb till level 12 then alchemy using everything I'd gathered. Then switched to leatherworking because the early quests give crap gear. Gonna switch back to herb/alchemy after i create gear for up to level 26 or so. Then maybe I'll be brave and go questing again. Lol. I've nearly died 5 times to this point and twice i was saved by a bag of marbles. Dont ever vendor that early reward!!! Good luck and happy pickpocketing!
Expose armor is something you want if your often in a group doing dungeons. It can make a fair few bosses a lot easier to deal with via weakening their ability to shrug off damage. However it is indeed best in late game raids like for Raggy or Onyx. so you can generally leave it until then. But I find it helps a fair bit against several high armor dungeon bosses like the warrior in Scarlet monestary or other such bosses.
@@Ettubrute1777That only matters if you have a warrior on the team. More often than not at least at mid levels i find myself with few warriors and more palys rouges and hunters for phys dmg.
Was about to say. It's a raid necessity. But this is a leveling guide... so you won't be using it Regardless... money is really made so just buy them all
They can lock pick chests, but not lockboxes (difference, chests are interactable world objects, lockboxes are picked up items). At 60 they can open lockboxes for others, because trading opens up.
Macroing weapon equips into combo point generators can be sketchy. There are times when it can ever-so-slightly delay an ability as the game checks and tries to equip a weapon that's already equiped, and this can add up over a long fight. This may have been a side effect of 400ms batching, I can't really say for sure. Either way, I found that dedicated weapon swap macros and opener+weapon swap macros felt a lot better while leveling in vanilla.
i started a rogue - and went sub - then someone said combat is the way to go im ok fine - rspecd for a gold at like 20 i think. combat is so effing boring- its like a weak warrior dual wielding this answered a lot of questions i wish i knew months ago- but i have my main now.
Hey dude! Long time fan! Been watching since you started. I’ve always wondered, do you actually have all these characters that are shown in these vids? Or does your community send you footage to use? I’ve always wondered that lol
From someone who have never played wow classic you made me wanna try it when the offical HC server will launch. Could you please do one on Priest ? That would be awesome
Everyone hates on LW, but it was not uncommon at all for me to be wearing gear I crafted. At any given time, I probably had 2-3 crafted pieces on my way to 60. I also never ran out of health pots just from random drops and pick pocketing. IIRC I also got swift thistle herb from a few places w/o herbalism, so I had to use my thistle tea sparingly.
The problem with classic armor crafting is that the crafted pieces are usually just very slightly better (and often way worse) than the gear available from you from quests and drops. It wasn't until WOTLK that Blizzard redesigned armor crafting for the first 60 levels. imo the ideal WoW today to play would be level 60 content, level 70 talent revamp (but without the talents beyond the 31 point one) and WOTLK tradeskill revamp
Leveling a classic druid herb/alch I missed on quite a few LW crafted pieces because I didn't find a leveling guild I liked nor made a LW friend, and the AH was hit or miss whether it was fair prices or gouged on any given day. There were quite a few level ranges where I'd pass on the item(s) because I had little choice, but if one goes LW one can easily make them for one's self.
A few gear upgrades won't save your life near as much as a target dummy or blind. Having more options is the best way to survive in HC. Target dummies are just another button to press that have large impact on whether you live or die, much like stuff like Health Potions, evasions etc.
honestly I think BS might be the worst hardcore profession. besides sharpening stones its almost worthless imo. At 60 its very useful, but for levelling up its garbage imo.
@@ChairmanMeow1 I believe it. Im wondering if it would be at all reasonable to do BS so that you can have some gear upgrades while leveling. Would be a hell of a grind for sure getting materials. At minimum could be a fun way to play HC. For example you can only use weapons/armor that you make if you're a warrior.
That's why you make distance with crippling poison first. Anyone who has done jousting on a warrior for leveling understands how powerful crippling poison can be. You get something stronger than hamstring at level 20. Most level with instant poison which makes sense when you have multiple lives. If you have one life having a huge slow on each mob is big for survival.
@@ChairmanMeow1 So it's hard to use the right poison, and run before hitting a single button? It literally can't be simpler regardless of the pressure. You have the poison already on. Just run, and vanish.
Rogues are delicate egg shells that get increasingly better at never getting hit. My first 60 back in 2004 (early 2005 since I got it for Christmas and leveling in a week back then was insane) was a rogue. Terribly fun class, but yeah, bit rough right at first
Isn’t the sub talent that give combo point on dodge a good choice fir hc ?

Fangore is chained to the mobs and u cant single him out. Level as sub rogue/ambush spec and it would be impossible to die. U can also sap and stay stealth through sub talents.
Very nice guide the only thing I would change is slice and dice, I really think this is geared more toward a longer boss fight than for mobs, I would use combo points for rupture or eviscerate. As far as the poisons go, combat is so much more fun using poisons because of the sound effects and for me it's all about enjoying the class you play and having fun and Rogues are very fun.
@@fahrradmittelfranken8207 It's so very hard not to take Eng in a hardcore setting. It just makes so much sense. A good argument can be made for alchemy. Still, eng for me.

If anyone is reading the comments and aren't sure what to choose; Every single class (including warriors), aren't hard to get to 60. If you can kill a mob at your level, you can get to 60. Anything that causes your death is greed. I have done the challenge on warrior, and hunter as well. The hardest part of the challenge is 1-20ish, for all classes. By the time you have the majority of your tool kit at 30, you pretty much have a solution to everything the game is going to throw at you, within reason. for the first 20 or so levels, if you are a melee, maybe do some ranged pulls if you see a pack of 2-3, understand how leashing mechanics work. Past that, just have a solid leveling route, amongst a couple other things like being aware of what professions youre going to run, what items vendors have, and how they can benefit you at early levels. For Professions, sometimes its viable doing a shuffle, where you start with two gathering, and then storing all of it in your bank until you swap to whatever youre going to do. You can do all this stuff mentioned, while also going for speed running achievements if youre following the addon. **The hardest part of the challenge is other players on or off your faction just looking to grief you for their own benefit or entertainment** so the TLDR is just play what you want to play, and don't worry about the challenge aspect of it at the end of the day, because as long as you are able to kill a mob at your level, you can do the challenge. If you die, without being griefed, you likely are greeding or miss playing (generally, at least) good luck good luck
Exactly right, no class is “easier” or “harder” they’re just different and have different toolkits. People die because they take risks. I also did hunter and warrior and as long as you know your limits at specific level ranges you shouldn’t die. Barring DC deaths or whatever. Dungeons are really the only other major risk because a bad teammate can end your run and you can’t always control that.
Caps lock. Also a macro where if you hit your stealth button while on stealth it doesn’t bring you out. If you want to get out of stealth without opening on a target you have to click your stealth icon.
Need paladin video asap, its the furthest I went as a lvl 11 Human Paladin and I feel good about it but have a lot of doubts with some abilities and paths.
no matter what version you play. Rogue is a bit weaker to begin. Having to eat to heal after each fight and having to focus more on multiple pulls (AOE). But end game, MY GOD, this class is superior, it is so tanky and damaging its insane. Totally worth the starting struggle.
the weapon swapping is kind of off in vanilla. it reset global Cd in battle and sometimes you will get a late or miss sec on weapon hit. also like warrior rogues are really gear dependent. otherwise rogues are mostly fun in world pvp. hahaha!
any class can vanish just like the rogue and actually it is better than rogue vanish. Just get 200 engineering and use gnomish cloaking device sure it has a 1 hour cooldown but still hunters can use aspect of cheetah and get full speed stealthed
If Official HC servers do allow trading, it's important to know that doing so will still invalidate your run for the HC Community. So if you're doing an actual HC run, you still won't be able to trade, and will need Herbalism to gather Fadeleaf for your rogue.
You don't need to buy vanishing or blinding powder as you get an absurd amount of both from pickpocketing which you should be doing regularly. You also completely skipped over the single most important talent out of any classes talent tree's while leveling: precision from the combat tree. It doesn't matter what spec you're going, the first 10 points you spend should be in precision because eliminating the miss % from your skills is the most important part of playing a rogue. Pally gets 3% for melee (not their spells), hunters eventually gets 3% deep in survival (who tf levels as survival), and feral and warriors never get any hit %.
Hey do you plan on doing any HC raiding? If so, after your HC class series you should make an endgame vid, maybe some guides on how to go about MC and BWL as safe as possible or something like that. Also, how many HC 60's do you have so far?
this guy didnt play lvl 60 hardcore. Coz of big population of rogues on hardcore it would be hard to join dungeon and raid. If u aim endgame just play warrior, priest and mage, strongest and desireble classes in classic

Love Vanish, not because it's a "get out of jail free" card, but more like an "all or nothing" option, depending on batching.
I do like how it really fits Rogues though, like a smokebomb to pull a batman disappearance does fit in well with class fantasy at least:p
There is no batching in classic anymore
@@Ktisgone I died to a batching a month ago :D
Compared to the other classes escape abilities it is by far the best imo
I never felt batching when vanishing
I've been loving the HC content, so yes keep em coming!
Wtf
3 months later -> did you die?
@@Lorenna1234 I did not. Quit at 26 to wait for HC servers.
I never used those marbals on my main either back then and then the addin came😅they are still in my bank for nostalgic reasons🤣
Does expose armor not remove sunder?
That would be Sunder. Its too powerful for expose armor
@@Ettubrute1777That only matters if you have a warrior on the team. More often than not at least at mid levels i find myself with few warriors and more palys rouges and hunters for phys dmg.
@@santhinal7767you mentioned its best for rag and onyxia, you think sunder wont be on them? lol
Was about to say. It's a raid necessity. But this is a leveling guide... so you won't be using it
Regardless... money is really made so just buy them all
Question: Can Rogues lock pick for players while leveling? Like if during Wailing Cavers a Mage gets a lockbox, can they pick it?
Think that qualifies as a trade
They can lock pick chests, but not lockboxes (difference, chests are interactable world objects, lockboxes are picked up items).
At 60 they can open lockboxes for others, because trading opens up.
Macroing weapon equips into combo point generators can be sketchy. There are times when it can ever-so-slightly delay an ability as the game checks and tries to equip a weapon that's already equiped, and this can add up over a long fight. This may have been a side effect of 400ms batching, I can't really say for sure. Either way, I found that dedicated weapon swap macros and opener+weapon swap macros felt a lot better while leveling in vanilla.
i started a rogue - and went sub - then someone said combat is the way to go im ok fine - rspecd for a gold at like 20 i think. combat is so effing boring- its like a weak warrior dual wielding
this answered a lot of questions i wish i knew months ago- but i have my main now.
Hey dude! Long time fan! Been watching since you started. I’ve always wondered, do you actually have all these characters that are shown in these vids? Or does your community send you footage to use? I’ve always wondered that lol
Great video, would love to see Warlock next.

Easily one of the best classes in my opinion for staying alive and taking down elite quests solo.
1:07 '...it's just surprising how fast things can go south when you're playing a class with no built-in self-healing'
*laughs in warrior*
From someone who have never played wow classic you made me wanna try it when the offical HC server will launch. Could you please do one on Priest ? That would be awesome
The amount of information in 1 video. Wow bravo
Yes I want to see your video on professions.
Gouge kiting should be mentioned during the soloing elites section.
To play a Rogue in Hardcore mode, you DEFINITELY have to have played one before in some sort of way. Patience is key for the Rogue
Professions for hardcore would be a cool video. Especially for no trading, for example is blacksmithing worth it?
honestly I think BS might be the worst hardcore profession. besides sharpening stones its almost worthless imo.
Hey WillE, thanks for these trick videos. Can't wait for a priest one!
Whoa. I was actually today years old when I found out Distract was usable outside of Stealth.
I feel like assassination is under rated since hit and weapon damage are major factors that poison completely bypasses
anyone else notice this was filmed at the BIRTH of SalvDali's "Salvadorgodx" main? 0:53
Just dont rely on Vanish. Theres dots, bleeds, and sometimes you can get immediately auto attacked right out of stealth again.
@@blaket1841 Its easy to read all this advice and understand it, but in my experience, its an entire other thing to do it under pressure
@@ChairmanMeow1 So it's hard to use the right poison, and run before hitting a single button? It literally can't be simpler regardless of the pressure. You have the poison already on. Just run, and vanish.
Be a dwarf 😀
@@blaket1841The fact that you think people get crippling poison at lvl 20 makes you kind of fucking retarded
Was w8ing for this. Im lvl 10 now AND really wanted to watch some rogué content
Rogues are delicate egg shells that get increasingly better at never getting hit. My first 60 back in 2004 (early 2005 since I got it for Christmas and leveling in a week back then was insane) was a rogue. Terribly fun class, but yeah, bit rough right at first
Its so helpful that you showed quests that gave great items, Thanks very much for the great content !!
Is the pickpocket marco working? Doesnt seem to work for me
3:50 or you can just jump from the bench on the left, pretty easy once you know how
Can I make another class and send Matt’s to each? Like make rogue and use mining and engineering and then make another chat with separate professions?
Yes. I do that all the time.
Bro I've been waiting for this video. Finally
So for a combat rogue is it best to go Sword/Dagger or Sword/Sword?
How do you switch your main hand weapon to a melee weapon after attacking with a dagger from stealth?
Iirc you can switch weapons mid combat.
Just died on Polly, that damn bird..😅
Isn’t the sub talent that give combo point on dodge a good choice fir hc ?
Fangore is chained to the mobs and u cant single him out. Level as sub rogue/ambush spec and it would be impossible to die. U can also sap and stay stealth through sub talents.
Those videos are great. Totally makes me wanna roll a rogue tonight after work.
what is the add on that shows enemy health with numbers?
this is a really nice video. i feel like playing a rogue now :D
Definitely do a professions video please. That would be really interesting.
you mean an engineering video?
@@fahrradmittelfranken8207 It's so very hard not to take Eng in a hardcore setting. It just makes so much sense. A good argument can be made for alchemy. Still, eng for me.
Any chance for priest to be next?
THRASH BLADE OFF HAND?!?!?!?!
Offhand thrash means twice the chance to proc fiery wep and poisons
A Fine Rogue is from Patch Cataclysm forward >>>>>
6:34 Lol if that's the case then boosting will be a thing and nobody in the Hardcore community will want to play. Of course it's something I'm absolutely 100% sure Blizzard will do anyway to break their own game again because they can not stand players actually playing the game ie No RDF but new classic WoW tokens so Blizz can take a cut and appease their stake holders.
I'm in doubt if I up a warlock or a priest in lk classic. what would you recommend I love both classes, however, I have no time to level both and due to work I am more casual. What would you recommend to me which is the most fun pos and cons
@@koula2448in reality I want the most fun to be able to focus and equip, but I don't have much time to spare due to work, so when in doubt
Once upon a time i was grouped with three other rogues and a priest. THAT was a lot of fun.
If anyone is reading the comments and aren't sure what to choose;
Every single class (including warriors), aren't hard to get to 60.
**The hardest part of the challenge is other players on or off your faction just looking to grief you for their own benefit or entertainment**
so the TLDR is just play what you want to play, and don't worry about the challenge aspect of it at the end of the day, because as long as you are able to kill a mob at your level, you can do the challenge. If you die, without being griefed, you likely are greeding or miss playing (generally, at least)
good luck good luck
Exactly right, no class is “easier” or “harder” they’re just different and have different toolkits.
People die because they take risks. I also did hunter and warrior and as long as you know your limits at specific level ranges you shouldn’t die. Barring DC deaths or whatever.
Dungeons are really the only other major risk because a bad teammate can end your run and you can’t always control that.
Alchemy also helps with being able to have health potions for using on battle if things get nasty.
I don’t have alchemy and I’m fully stocked on potions just from drops and pick pocketing
Bless you wille
There is another low lvl dagger from The Ravaged Caravan quest line in Mulgore.
I always keyboud stealth to the F key, just flowed a lot better when grinding. anyone else?
same. F key ftw.
nah I'm fucked and use shift+space
Caps lock. Also a macro where if you hit your stealth button while on stealth it doesn’t bring you out. If you want to get out of stealth without opening on a target you have to click your stealth icon.
Warlock next please !
Need paladin video asap, its the furthest I went as a lvl 11 Human Paladin and I feel good about it but have a lot of doubts with some abilities and paths.
Warlock next!!
Vanish is a lifesaver for sure
Currently level 40 rogue first time on hardcore long time player and I gotta say this shit is sweet ez one shot
I like way more 2 play ambush sub, it feels so strong when ur get okay dagger.
pls do one for shaman
no matter what version you play. Rogue is a bit weaker to begin. Having to eat to heal after each fight and having to focus more on multiple pulls (AOE). But end game, MY GOD, this class is superior, it is so tanky and damaging its insane. Totally worth the starting struggle.
I thought they fixed the weapon speed advantage in late vanilla
Rogue or otherwise caves are death sentences
Exactly
Druids cat form they're safe
the weapon swapping is kind of off in vanilla. it reset global Cd in battle and sometimes you will get a late or miss sec on weapon hit. also like warrior rogues are really gear dependent. otherwise rogues are mostly fun in world pvp. hahaha!
It still resets gcd in retail
@@Gilly999999 oh i know. but i was also hinting there is a way to swap it without letting the the gobal cd effect you too much.
...there are 3 classes in the game that possess stealth...rogue, druid and mage.
not in classic...
wow, ur right, they dont get it till later. HOWEVER, there is the invis potion, so technically everyone can have invisibility@@dornauge1995
what about professions?
any class can vanish just like the rogue and actually it is better than rogue vanish. Just get 200 engineering and use gnomish cloaking device sure it has a 1 hour cooldown but still hunters can use aspect of cheetah and get full speed stealthed
Rogue with alchemy here we gooooo
Love to see a proffesion video too, WillE!
If Official HC servers do allow trading, it's important to know that doing so will still invalidate your run for the HC Community. So if you're doing an actual HC run, you still won't be able to trade, and will need Herbalism to gather Fadeleaf for your rogue.
No mention of kick to interrupt casters?
He mentioned kick, i don't think he has to explain what it does.
Hi Will!
You also want your MH to be 2.4 or higher speed. Thats what SS is normalized to.
priest next pls
Warlock and priest please
You don't need to buy vanishing or blinding powder as you get an absurd amount of both from pickpocketing which you should be doing regularly. You also completely skipped over the single most important talent out of any classes talent tree's while leveling: precision from the combat tree. It doesn't matter what spec you're going, the first 10 points you spend should be in precision because eliminating the miss % from your skills is the most important part of playing a rogue. Pally gets 3% for melee (not their spells), hunters eventually gets 3% deep in survival (who tf levels as survival), and feral and warriors never get any hit %.
Profession Video pls!
Do professions video next plz.
Please do paladin next
distract is also useful to use on actual players
Hey do you plan on doing any HC raiding? If so, after your HC class series you should make an endgame vid, maybe some guides on how to go about MC and BWL as safe as possible or something like that. Also, how many HC 60's do you have so far?
Paladin next please
this guy didnt play lvl 60 hardcore. Coz of big population of rogues on hardcore it would be hard to join dungeon and raid. If u aim endgame just play warrior, priest and mage, strongest and desireble classes in classic
i just died yesterday with my 19 rogue in hardcore by that goddamn quest with the huge hostile parrot, polly. i didn't read the quest text and it felt like such a cheap death.
So you clicked on the robot and took the thieves tools but didn’t take the cracker as well? Or you took the cracker that mentions parrots when you mouse over it and just thought huh wonder why they gave me this? And then never thought about it again?
