A great tutorial for the best weapon in the game. Though of course that's just my opinion, any of the weapons with 'Great' in their name could be argued as best weapon.
Hey Arekkz, it’s worth noting that you don’t have to hold Attack and charge immediately after an adept dodge. Say the monster is further away, sprint for a bit, when your hunter starts to recover from the sprint animation, press and hold the attack and you’ll go a bit further while it charges. Helps out against certain monsters, like Nibelsnarf when it does it 2-3 dashes.
This tutorial video was much needed. Capcom should endorse these videos to make the game more accessible as a bridge for newcomers who've only played MHW.
When the "Guild style" Sound came up... Really made me miss all of the sounds of the older games that have been missing from world and not even realizing...
too bad the dash juice in world is basically a stamina discount instead of temporary infinite stamina, It'd be nice for bow sliding and demon god mode, beyond that it'd have niche uses. Don't take my word though i'm a MH noob.
The biggest thing you are missing is that now anyone could run a build with 3 points in Maximum might which gives %30 affinity while you have max stam.
That is the point. you cannot only infinitely spam Aerial Insect Glaive, hold the charge of Hammer way too long, Overpower the Bow to the Point of nerf and make every stamina skill useless, but have more stamina for every weapon. Without Mega Dash Juice you at least have to watch out that your stamina is full all the time. Would break Game.
Something I'd recommend for any GS style is the use of Absolute Evade and/or Absolute Readiness. They may not do damage and aren't GS specific arts, but the re-positioning you can pull off with them is great.
TaroT SselluosSI don't see anything egotistical bragging here tbh. Wtf are you on? Ohhhhh riiight. You despise MHW... it looks like the only hurt ego showing here is yours... It's ironic how your comment doesn't contribute anything either...
One important thing to note about Brimstone Slash is that the super armor you get on the recovery frames for the attack can pretty easily get you killed or chunked hard if the attack you block during its wind-up time is the first hit of a multi-hit attack. Because of the super armor you won't get launched, meaning you wont get any further from the monster AND you won't get airborne i-frames. Most of the time this isn't a problem because the momentum of most multi-hit monster attacks tend to make them move away from your position, but it happens to me every so often when I fight monsters that like to chain leaping attacks really quickly, such as Nargacuga or Tetsucabra.
As usual, great/informative video! Watching your weapon tutorials (especially this one) really makes me want to try out the other styles, even though I have a habit sticking to one style for most weapons. You’re doing an amazing job teaching new players from World as well as refreshing old players. Cant wait for the other weapon tutorials :)
So far GS is one of my better choices in MHGenU. The Seregios GS with Aerial Style is by far the easiest, but aggressive playstyle. Always stay in white sharpness and always landing charge attacks one after the other.
Thank you for this! Great Sword is becoming my 2nd weapon after LBG. LBG will still be my main weapon but I needed an aggressive weapon/style once in awhile to get certain mats and take up some roles when I play with my friend. And also, so that I don't get sick of LBG immediately hahaha
I accidentally went into a hunt with a great sword after getting to 8* with just long sword and hammer and I instantly fell in love. Thank you for this tutorial on this amazing weapon
The on-screen button commands in your video really helped a lot in understanding all the moves, very much looking forward to your video on other weapons! :D
If anyone's coming here from world and wants try adept but is having doubts you should know after you perform the dodge you can wait to start the charge and your character can run in any direction after you perform it so if the monster moves far after you dodge you have a good 3-5 second delay of sprinting where you can wait to start the charge and cover more ground because the initial sprint you do after dodging doesn't affect the amount of time you can run after starting the charge
For anyone who's asking for the gear, like I was, with a bit of exploration and searching here it is: Drill tusk Tetsucabra (Helm) Silverwind Narga (Others) Enjoy!
Great tutorial. I had just bought MHGU on the Switch since it was on sale and my brother kept trying to tell me "Oh everyone online says to use Valor." and I gave it a try and to me, having played GS since MH on the PS2, it just felt... Wrong. Swapped to the Guild Style after seeing this and was so glad to see it "classic". I had to tell him "This is why I don't die on hunts. This is why I never died fighting a 255 Chameleos in MH4U. I didn't break away from the classic." Sure my DPS won't be as high as "Lord DicksOut the Unfathomable" doing his flip-a-dip-dips, but I won't get blindsided, I won't get carted, and I won't be a liability to the hunt.
Great content bro :D It is really hard for me to adjust to MHGU because of these styles and this video really helped me to start maximizing the style I'm in. My last MH is way back on the PSP (MHP3) and it is so good to be back :D I started with Aerial but I've switched to Valor and it's a very good hunting style for me (I play very agressive most of the time). By the way, may I ask what armor parts you've used in this video. It looked very cool and I want to craft one from myself. TIA :D
Because MHGU is a greatest hits lot of the previous games that shared the same engine while MHW is entirely new and can't pull content from previous games. That said the weapon designs in mhw are lacking but the free dlc additions have been outstanding.

I plan to use mainly Great Sword and Switch Axe since the controls are much better on Nintendo Switch especially with the addition of being able to use a Pro Controller. I may even pickup on Hunting Horn and Hammer as well. Overall my favourite weapons on Generations for 3DS were Bow and Insect Glaive so I got to see if I can handle those on the Switch since they gave me a kind of a hard time due to the controls back then. My favourite Hunting Style is Adept but now I've added Valor Style to my Favourite as well. I'll use mainly Valor for Heavy Weapons (Great Sword, Switch Axe, Hunting Horn, Hammer) and Adept for Light Weapons (Bow and Insect Glaive with Great ) And Both Styles for Great Sword since it works great with both. I hope you put up weapon tutorials on all the weapons soon. I've been following Gaijin Hunter's and your gameplays and tutorials. You both are great.
Great video! I was wondering why the greatsword felt so clunky when i was playing it and found out (from your video) that different styles actually change the moveset of the weapon.
Valor Style was a mistake I feel. I won't begrudge anyone using it, but I feel like it's *too* good. Having a relatively on-demand auto-dodge stance that can be held for several seconds at minimal cost in a game where the main punishment is bad positioning is kind of silly. Not to mention Valor Mode is basically "I'm you but better" to Guild.
I dunno, some weapons I agree with (holy shit valor gunlance is good) but with others I think it's fairly balanced. I do think that it has a lot more "op" weapons with it though in comparison to other styles

Ah, the feeling of starting anew with Arekkz by my side. Watched your weapon tuts when I started world a lifetime ago and now that I got a switch... well... here we go AGAIN!
What about information on things like armor skills and how they synergize with the different styles? Like, does Focus still help with Valor style at all, is Crit Draw worth it for Valor? Things like that. How about Quick Sheath? Does that help with Valor at all?
Yeah. Shoulder tackle was a great boon to the GS moveset. Still though, the new Adept style GS is incredible, and Valor’s good too. In OG Generations, you couldn’t do the Adept dodge to running charge upswing, only the mediocre uncharged upswing, which was slow.
Dumb question, but can Moon breaker be used in the air? I’ve been using aerial style pretty much all the time, and I wondered if maybe it could go well with it.

I honestly feel like valor style is great for most weapons except maybe SnS. I'm not saying its bad but I just don't see why I would take it over alchemy style. The ability to take full advantage of using items while unsheathed + 3 hunter arts, is a lot better than a simple dodge attack.
These are the moves that were missing in MHW. For me the weapons felt like it lacks something but can't quite put my finger on it. Now I know what, dangit Capcom.
I really wanna play this but I dunno about getting a switch to play this and maybe breath of the wild. There’s not a lot of Nintendo games that I like or wanna play
Arekks you didn't mention the upward swing from pressing X and A together. I know for a fact it works for Adept style im not sure about the others, but you can use the upswing to combo the rest of your core moves. How did you forget to mention a whole attack
Just got this game after playing monster Hunter world..... Jesus it's a lot to take in but it reminds me of god eater so it really wasn't that bad of a learning curve.

You arekks canter per me should do a very hard quest some time

The great sword is just too slow for me, I know it's a good weapon but personally I can't bring myself to use it

I like Adept with SnS the most, because you can adept-jump out of attacks and get mounting attacks from them.
I wish this stuff was in MHW. I would love the game even more than I do now.
These are the moves that were missing in MHW. For me the weapons felt like it lacks something but can't quite put my finger on it. Now I know what, dangit Capcom.
You didn't really talk about how moon breaker is used to break parts
I really wanna play this but I dunno about getting a switch to play this and maybe breath of the wild. There’s not a lot of Nintendo games that I like or wanna play
Aerial style: Press forward on the left stick and hit the X button to perform Back Slash
danwithaplan Everyone knows this....
Please please please please do Charge Blade next! Love your videos
What armour are you using?
(Very late, but) Visually, it seems like he’s wearing mostly nargacuga armor, with I think a tetsucabra helmet.
Arekks you didn't mention the upward swing from pressing X and A together. I know for a fact it works for Adept style im not sure about the others, but you can use the upswing to combo the rest of your core moves. How did you forget to mention a whole attack
He did mention that you idiot. 3:38 Did you even watch the video?
Just got this game after playing monster Hunter world..... Jesus it's a lot to take in but it reminds me of god eater so it really wasn't that bad of a learning curve.
