@@groudongamer3178 That frightens me cause he is a serious pain in my butt! Course, I use a valor normal Gunlance, so I'm at a disadvantage with him from the outset. Ha!
Ok this is why I loved Generation. Each weapon had different playstyles, and sometimes a subtle change could make a weapon you despise your next main! An example? In the old world, I hated the Great Sword. I mean, the charged attacks were cool, but overall the weapon was too slow for me. And then, while I was fucking around with the Demo, I tried Adept Great Sword, and I fell in love with it. I really hope that they somehow bring back this concept in future games!
I just hope they do a sequel to MH:GU. I get that MHW is the bee's knees to some, but for the rest of us that love old school MH, it sure would be great if they did. I am in agreement with Gaijin about enjoying the mobile aspect of gaming. Edit: I just noticed my phone autocorrected the first sentence above to read that they don't do a sequel. That couldn't be any further from my intention! I love that game and would love a proper sequel for it.
Christopher Cobb we should just get an HD remaster pack of monster hunter freedom, freedom unite, 3 ultimate, and 4 ultimate and have it be called “Monster Hunter Classic Collection” and of course new content, maybe even a 4th rank for each game.
My favorite is just plain old guild style Greatsword. It's really easy to learn but requires a lot of practice to be able to head snipe and hit and run correctly. I also find it so much fun because guild style GS is more about learning the monster rather than learning the weapon.
Guild styles or Old School style is the best and only for Pro. :) other style is only for new Players whos having trouble on killing a monsters, except for Gainjin... Nowadays MH seems easy to play.
People keep complaining about how strong i m but, nowday, i m the most stronger MH player ever with , 3000 HR Full G many full G set armor Hahahaha Hahaha
@@sekiro_the_one-armed_wolfNoo new mh games are so easy and using the given tools of those games is cheating :(((( I only use the most boring style to show how much better I am than those amateur hunters 😎 also I triple cart to kut ku
There's just something so viscerally satisfying about Brave LS. That constant counter attack feels SO GOOD. I'll always remember the feeling when a glavenous starts charging a big tail attack, and instead of fear, I'm absolutely elated.
@@TachiFrypan Sure, it may have been better in XX, but the iai spirit slash can still wreck shit. The timing is tighter than the brave parry, but it's not as lethal if you fail it because World's strongest monsters like Tempered Ruiner or Rajang may hit hard, but compared to the strongest monsters of XX it's nothing. Tempered Ruiner dive bomb takes usually 1/2 to 3/4 of your hp bar, with standard max upgraded blademaster armor at full hp. But a roar charge from a boiling mode EX Bloodbath or a lightsaber from an EX Boltreaver is a straight 100 to 0 hp instakill. So, both have their pros and cons. Also World LS and XX Brave LS have very different playstyles. Brave LS wants the monster to constantly attack you so that you can counter every attack and deal massive dmg while keeping the brave gauge up. World LS wants to stay at red spirit gauge. A well done iai spirit slash should stagger/trip the monster to create an opening for it's strongest attack, the helm splitter. And immediately going up to red gauge again. I personally love them both.
@@Lucifer-hq5pe yeah I agree with this I feel they kinda made the iai slash wkrse in rise though it feels way too easy to do where as in iceborne you really had to be good with timing to do it.
the clip you used at the beginning of your insect glaive tutorial is what made me go "hot damn! I gotta learn this weapon, it's lit!" XD My favourite weapon/style combo is adept SnS, the adept backstep is hard to pull off due to it locking your trajectory once you input the move but landing it always feels good especially if you do what I like to call the reverse adept backstep. Where you put your back to the monster so that when they attack and you adept backstep through it, you end up almost chasing them down :P also it's the only adept style in the game that allows you to use an item imediately after an adept dodge instead of having to go through the whole running animation.
And it is so good at mounting due to the counter attack after an Adept Dodge doing mounting damage. It's the most reliable weapon/style against Silverwind Narga for me when you use Round Force with it, because you can cancel the roadie run at anytime with an item(especially flashies) or Round Force so you can completely avoid the double tail slam.
TheCaptainPaxo A fellow adept SnS user! My favourite thing about it is the two attacks you can do out of an adept dodge, I just find them so satisfying and useful. Haven’t been able to get the backstep timing though.
I've been trying to build a glaive of each element once I tried it out. Is the Kush Glaive from 4U still in GU, since Ice is the only element I can't find one with some affinity?
It feels so different in MHGU because of the unlimited sword mode getting nerfed, but it is still really good and Alchemy Style Swagaxe is pretty fun once you get used to X being Axe mode and A being Sword Mode.
Fellow Prowler main here (Heal and Protect). I played some MHGU while waiting for Iceborne to come to PC, and I fell back in love with it to the point where I play it more than Iceborne now. #bringbackprowler
I got you it’s sooo true I love prowler and every time I come back to world/iceborne I’m like dam I really miss playing as my cat (but let’s face it the prowler would be sooo good In world)
Insect Glaive has always been my favorite Weapon and I always felt standard guild style was the only way to play it, but now I can see how fun aerial style looks! Can’t wait to try it out!
Awesome vid, thanks for making it ! I'm playing this game for the first time right now, having been introduced to the series last year by MHW. I'm really blown away by the amount of content and variety this game has! I'm playing guild IG right now but will definitely try out Aerial IG after this hilarious segment here. Also loved Aerial DB, as it makes the mount subquests easy peasy. Gotta try some of these other variations mentioned here!
Ever since I watched your Insect Glaive, I've been addicted to its Aerial style. If we get a new classic MH style game on Switch, I hope we'll get something close to aerial IG in it ^^
World already kind of has that with the way vaulting works now. You jump into the air and you can press Circle/B to do a helicopter approach or press X/A to close the distance. Landing the final hit on the helicopter will keep you in the air so you can keep bouncing off the monster until you land a a downward strike/spinning finisher or you run out of stamina.
@@AirahsELL it's just not the same in world, idk. It feels to restricted, the aerial pole vault in generations was just so fast and fun to use. Honestly can't even touch insect glaive in world, the only weapon I didn't like the changes they made for it.
Gaijin! Thanks for introducing me to Guard Prowlers. My Guard Cat works wonders on my G Rank runs! Funny, for something I so neglected before in MHGen, when I stepped to GU and tried the prowlers (with the help of your prowler breakdown vid of course), I suddenly had a new thing to play with again. 😁
Recently Aerial Bow flew up into my top ten. I just love having a quadruple jump, as well as the ability to melee when you start to fall. I’ve dodged so many attacks by spacing out my jumps, and it feels amazing every time.
The thing about striker insect glaive is that it is very simple and all three hunter arts with insect glaive make it a blast. Sure, the combo is kind of linear feeling but just pressing A to send out the kinsect is a breath of fresh air. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't used the insect glaive yet.
One of my new favorite combos I’ve tried by pure chance, was valor dual blades. Literally having arc demon mode when the gauge is full especially since I always bring - juice, it’s so much fun
Adept HH is a beast, good dmg as long as you could read the monster and dodge all attack then do counter while also able to get notes easily and quickly. In Iceborne HH feels really slow and vulnerable so im not a fan Adept GS is also a lot of fun along with LS, I just really like adept in general and sometimes valor too As much as I love MHW the incredible amount of option in GU is just amazing, I hope MHW Ultimate or MH gen 6 will be modern but with styles option, best of both world, that would be sick
i recently bought MHGU on sale after enjoying the Rise trial and just craving more MH. it always takes me a little while to find the fun when starting up a new one but this time i needed some outside assistance. i tried the adept light bowgun setup from this vid and suddenly couldn't put the game down. where i was close to buyer's remorse before, i've now gotten more than my money's worth even if i'd bought it at full price. i owe you big time
I love Valor Switch Axe! the combo you get has the same feel as Valor Charge Blade (which I also enjoy quite a lot). Also the evade you get feels AMAZING when you have evade extender. 10/10 would recommend
That's what I love about MHGU - there's just so many options and despite having over 1000 hours in the game I still learn new things here. I don't often play with ranged weapons but I may have to give that Valor HBG a go. It looks super fun. Thanks Gaijin!
Love this one. Was watching yesterday for the 800th time all your vids about weapons in MHGU and still not 100% sure which one to use haha Current Aerial IG now but the Hammer and the Hunting Horn are blowing my mind! Thanks for your time brother
Absolutely love aerial hammer. The A button gives you 2 hits that do mount damage and when you hit the head KO damage as well. It’s amazing and my favourite
It's ironic you post this video man. My husband and I were just talking about how we've been itching to play some classic MH. We still haven't played Iceborn and we can't get any interest in ever doing that or even finishing World for that matter. We started playing GenU again last night :) Thank you Gaijin Hunter
Former Striker IG main on Generations here, to answer your question at the end of the vid. I personally loved Striker more than Aerial because it meant giving love to your Kinsect a lot more. When going for Striker you want to look for Power Kinsects - you'll use them more as a combo extender and less as an extract slave, since if you're good, you never have to worry about losing your triple buff thanks to your Extract Hunter HA. The combo is simple: hold your kinsect charge with the base of your thumb while you mash the glaive attack button with the tip of it, then, when you want to move away or before doing the triple spinning slash, release your charged Kinsect right in the monster's face at point blank just before you evade. Do another X combo, then recall your Kinsect to reset it. Also, IIRC there was a perfect timing mecanic that allowed you to do the strong slam instead of the crappy triple spinning slash during your glaive combo if you waited a bit after your second move. I just loved how a master of insertion and timing it required you to be to perform good, and while it wasn't as mobile as the other styles and more grounded, landing the firefly-boosted vaulting HA right into a monster's face felt so damn good. (Look at that Motion Value!) And with your charged kinsect attacks slowly building up a stun if you used a blunt one... Well it felt like firing rocket punches at the monster's face. Striker Glaive requires a bit of a shift in gameplay but you definitely don't want to ditch it out because the kinsect doesn't work the same. It's powerful and really fun if you look to style around the monster's head and wait until you can rocket punch it. I dunno how it would play in GU but it seems it would work neatly with the new Kinsect boost HA coupled to the vaulting and Extract hunter HA.
From what I remember you can still do that in GU, but now Valor style takes over as the go-to for when you want to get the most out of your kinsect. In Valor mode the bug does that charged attack automatically every time you do use the A finishing slam and it changes a bunch of other moves so that they'll command the kinsect mid-combo as well. It's super fluid and more than makes up for losing out on those hunter arts Stricker comes with
I really need to play more MHGU, it's not my favorite but it's classic Monster Hunter all the same. I don't get sick of hunting monsters like I do in World and Iceborne.
As a bow/HBG main user, I can't let go of adept style. A free evade-through-anything dodge is just too good to pass up for a gunner. I wanna try other styles, especially alchemy, but I keep going back to adept because it makes me feel safe. If gunners didn't have the unfair half defense situation, I probably wouldn't use it.
1. Adept Charge Blade: It makes my already favorite weapon an absolute monster with dodging and guard-pointing 2. Guild Sword & Shield: I never really liked the other styles of SnS. Gotta have that charge jump attack. 3. Aerial Gunlance: Love the combos I can use and mid-air reload 4. Adept Hammer: I love being able to dodge and counter with strong hits 5. Striker Longsword: Practically NO moves have been removed from this style and I love it 6. Valor Dual Blades: I love the Valor mode with DBs. It basically has demon mode with no stamina cost.
Striker Longsword loses the side fade slash and the jumping spirit slash which is often a dealbreaker for me- I've often played Striker Longsword, but not being able pulling off combos with these moves makes me always want to use guild LS more^^ It's pretty cool that it basically has the 2nd gen LS moveset - aside from the spirit roundslash.
I really love Valor Greatsword in GenU! I used to play Adept GS back in regular Gen, but as soon as Valor was released I changed to it, I feel like it's more risky and more rewarding than adept, so much fun!
MHGU is my first (and probably will be the only) MH game, and I've slowly discovered that Adept Light Bowgun with an evade distance up set-up is the only way for me to live. Also, it's thanks to you that I found the fun in Ariel Switch Axe and Ariel Dual Blades! But I definitely can't go far without my LB
1st place: Aerial Gunlance. Love jumping around with such a weighty weapon and slamming down monsters. It's even better when they're downed and you Wyvern's Fire or Dragon Blast right in their face. It feels like a bit out of an anime and I freaking love it. Second place has to be Aerial Insect Glaive. Just like you said, GH, you become the wind itself and it's amazing. Third... Either Adept Bow or Guild CB. I honestly can't decide. Probably Guild CB? I only like Adept Bow because it really helped me out against Plesioth and I've found more success with it than other styles, plus being able to continually unleash charged shots after perfectly-timed dodges feels awesome and really fits what I'd imagine a more skilled bow-wielding hunter of monsters would be like. Meanwhile, I like Guild CB because the default playstyle for it is fun, interesting, and to me most emphasizes the key points of having a weapon that morphs into another. I don't need any of the other flashy stuff because just wielding the combo S&S that you charge with energy and then turn into a slamming, exploding axe is honestly pretty flashy as-is, for me!
You should put a poll on your description. Would have made it easier for us to talk about our favorite styles? I'm interested in knowing what was the most popular style as well. Mine is Brave Longsword. I imagine this is incredibly popular.
I'm finally got into MH again after buying MHGU last year, I'm climbing from LR, never fought a Nargacuga before, and was having trouble with dealing with it, until I started use Adept LS, and boy... what a way to abuse that girl... Adept is one of, if not the, best styles in the game, and the stuff u can do using it, is incredible!!! As for Weapon, Db and SnS are my favorites, but I'm trying new things to see if I can learn them and do better with them.
Aerial HBG + Moofire Cannon. I have my inventory jammed full of Wyvern Fangs (Or claws, whichever you can mae Clust S 2 with) since they're easy to get in bulk from Special Goods, and you can carry 50 of them. I have armor which reduces recoil, and the jumping reload negates the slow reload speed. Basically, I just spend most of the hunt carpet bombing the monster from above. Bazelgeuse would be proud.
I love the aerial hammer because I can stun and mount the monster all in one go. Gotta love that good old double smack to the face or any part you want to destroy but typically have no mindseye or sharpness to do so.
I picked up GU around Xmas but hadn’t gotten to put a whole lot of time in. Took vacation last week and my 11 year old son said it looked so fun I got it for him as well Having a ton of fun with arial IG after watching all of the GU weapon tutorials, working on improving with adept bow and am planning on trying striker lance soon, can’t wait to get further in to start putting together some of the Prowler builds you’ve posted as well. Really wish I could get into LBG, my main from World but it feels a little clunky, but will have quite a bit more time at home for the foreseeable future. Thanks for the content, your tutorials do a great job of putting enough tools in my kit to get started and enjoying the game :)
I used Aerial Great Sword Low Rank, Aerial Switch Axe, Adept Long Sword and Light Bowgun High Rank. I had a blast using these for 300 hours(and a little bit of Prowler for Deadeye). Then when GU came out, I discovered 3 more awesome ways to play. Adept Bow and Valor Gunlance. Which I used until I got to G4, and then I discovered Adept Switch Axe just about 400 hours in. These are just the main styles I have used and don't include the ones I used for specific match-ups, and that's one of my favourite things about GU. I am over 400 hours into the game and I have continuously found new ways play. And I haven't even tried all the style weapon combos I want either. That's why this is one of my favourite Monster Hunter games(3U will always be my Number 1 and my home).
My favourite weapon style by far in MHGU has to be Valor Insect Glaive. It took me a while to learn it but god damn it is one of my favourite ways to play IG ever. Once you hit max Valor guage, A attacks start sending out your kinsect to attack with you, getting buffs and what not. Paired with the hunter art that ups your kinsect's damage, and gives it a new finisher, every end to the A combo, the double sweep, does that finisher. Use a blunt kinsect and it is so satisfying to knock out monsters, or sever tails with a cutting kinsect. I highly recommend everyone try it out because genuinely, it was my favourite weapon to play, but so hard for me to learn, but worth it.
I decided to try to learn Striker IG (and striker weapons in general) because of deviant weapons. Having 3 arts being boosted by use of deviant weapons which most are best endgame weapons available anyway, plus palicoes that boost gauge, plus IG can mount, cut tails, AND stun, AND utilize multiple elements simultaneously because of Kinsect... In theory, it takes the most advantage of what MHGU gives the player. In short, 3 fast charging arts, tail cutting, stunning, element exploitation, and mounting. Monsters rarely get a chance to attack back because they're always stunned, part broken staggered, stun locked from arts, or being mounted.
Something else Prowlers have going for them in GU: Their longevity is improved almost infinitely in many maps with the addition of the Support Move "Far-cat-ster", which makes your cat warp to the camp as if they had used a Farcaster for the cost of 3 bars. If you're on a map where camp has a bed, you can almost never cart, because you get your acorns back when you sleep in the bed. This does cost you time, but keep in mind that you have 50 minutes for a quest. This is REALLY helpful against the EX Deviants that appear in the Sanctuary - Dreadqueen, Deadeye, Boltreaver, Nightcloak, Thunderlord, and Grimclaw.
I'm just now getting to play MHGU (just got to high rank hub, and just beat valstrax online.) Haven't gotten into too many styles, and have been wanting to try more. Perfect timing with the video!
Valor LBG with the Seregios LBG specifically. Once you hit valor mode you get to do those sweet shooting side steps while reloading your gun because of the Seregios bowgun mechanic.
Even though I play mhw from time to time .. I go back to mhgu for some reason.. and if I forget how to play. I watch your tutorials again.. I love adept bow!
Don't judge: 10: Aerial Greatsword (fine, but I would rather use something else) 9: Aerial Longsword (against most monsters, their height is too short to hit them with the spirit III attack in the air) 8: Valor Sword and Shield (very awkward with the camera; I don't like the idea of not using the shield at all) 7: Alchemy Greatsword (against most monsters, I struggle to find openings) 6: Valor Hammer (great stun damage but I feel underpowered [I test weapon style combo strength against V10 Ukanlos while taking elemental weaknesses into consideration]) 5: Aerial LBG (very fun but I feel underpowered) 4: Adept Longsword (great damage and very fun but very situational) 3: Guild Switchaxe (Really fun and good damage but not the safest weapon style combo) 2: Valor Greatsword (I love this style for grinding monster because of the high damage and good safety cuz of valor sheath) 1: Alchemy/Guild Charge Blade (I can't choose between the two styles because I like them so much; to my taste, this is just as powerful as valor Charge Blade and more hit-and-run [which is what I like in weapons] as well as really fun too)
I feel like valor ls is the most fun. It's nice to use when hunting with friends since you don't have to worry about tripping them with your gauge combos to keep yourself at a fighting level. Actually, valor ls is just the friendly version of adept ls.
If I remember right striker insect glave can charge the bug mid combo but loses the power to aim and feels like your a puppeteer in that style sending the bug out and using your movements to change the course of the bug every press of the button
Hey! I have played Striker Insect Glaive and like it, though it's not my favorite either. What I like about it is the dedicated button for insect attacks, an aspect I like about IG that I wish was more pronounced some times. (World does that better imo) It means you can more easily charge an insect attack while attacking with the glaive. Along with the hunter art to buff insect attacks it's pretty fun. Therefore it's probably the best if you want to play more insect-centric. Now for sure it's not that good, and Valor fulfills a similar hybrid role while probably being better at it. But it is damn fun continuously sending your angry insect at monsters =p
Without FB and perf rush SnS feels realy poor for me. Only started playing this weapon with iceborn, and i wont play it anymore if these move are missing
I know that Im so late to the party since I just played MH last year, and with your tutorials and guides I went for IG Aerial. Just here to thank you, I enjoy playing this game. Cheers.
I had a go-to style for each weapon I knew how to use in MHGU: Aerial/Adept/Valor GS, Adept/Valor LS, Guild/Adept SnS, Valor/Adept DB, Aerial/Valor Hammer, Striker Lance, Guild GL, Aerial/Adept/Valor SA, Guild CB, Aerial IG, and Adept/Valor Bow. Never really touched the Horn or the Bowguns in the older games as I had no real reason to do so, but given time I may go to that.
Same. While I love the convenience of the S.O.S. flares, it's really disappointing that there's no incentive to remain together. The online sessions, aside from the occasional siege, don't really have you interact with the other players. The smaller hubs in GU just encourage more communication with everyone from my experience.
Mine will probably be something like this: *10. Striker Switch Axe*. Fantastic hunter arts, specially the Demon Riot + Energy Charge combo still nuts even after the nerfs. 9. Striker Charge Blade. Extra axe damage with good hunter arts? I'm all about it 8. Guild Hammer. The og hammer never gets old. Put on some earplugs and smash that monster's face. 7. Adept Light Bowgun. As you said, this combo feels incredibly safe, I can effortlessly hunt a monster for 10 minutes without getting hit once. 6. Valor Greatsword. Drawing strong charge... Nothing more to say. 5. Striker Sword&Shield. Amazing mobility and great hunter arts like Round Force, Chaos Oil and the Shoryuken makes this one of the most versatiles weapon-style combos. 4. Valor Heavy Bowgun. The highest DPS in the game by far, coupled with good mobility and even free evasion +1. Pretty OP if you ask me. 3. Valor Dual Blades. The X+A combo is just relentless, great for abusing elemental weaknesses. The parry is also really nice, and helps you keep your sharpness at max without Absolute readiness. 2. Valor Gunlance. Shelling-Gunlance is one of my favourite play styles, and this combo is all about it. The guard-point reload is basically a dream come true, such a shame it doesn't reload the full magazine like the MHW version. 1. Valor Long Sword. The most popular weapon-style combo of this game and for good reasons. Continuously countering the monster's attacks is so satisfying, and the new spirit combo is so cool too.
Gotta give a shoutout to my true love: Aerial Hammer. ♡ I love running in, jumping in the air off the monster, and slamming down on their face over and over again.
-For you Hunting Horn lovers, there's a very great skill just for you, and it's super-easy to gem in 10 points...the Flying Pub skill! You just need 5 Skyfeast Jewel 1s, and you get "Flying Pub Soul", which is a compound skill with the effects of Knockout King and Horn Maestro at the same time! Granted, you will probably need to get to G-Rank to get it, but hey, it's still awesome to have two such useful skills so easy to gem in! -Aerial SwAxe is indeed an absolute, brainless joy, at least in the early game. Once monsters start getting faster and more furious, the Aerial Dodge starts to become a little slow. It's also kind of sad that Energy Charge III takes a lot longer to fill up now. In the 3DS version, it filled up a lot quicker, making it so you could pretty much keep the +30% affinity it granted for the entire hunt.
I do not have a top 10 as I do not use as much weapons, but I will mention 3 that stand out to me personally. Striker SnS because all you really lose from it is the backhop and I gain so much power with the hunter arts. Aerial greatsword, which is funny as I never ever enjoyed greatsword in any monster hunter game but this one just gets me going so hard! And of course Ol' reliable for me being guild Switchaxe, I just love it too much to just put it aside for brand new styles. I did try valor bow a lot of times which I did enjoy, but I think I need more practice in it first to consider it a favorite.
I played striker insect Glaive a lot and I really like it once I’ve gotten used to it. The moveset might not be as good as say guild stile, but you are still able to mix your combo up by either just pressing X or tilting the stick forward to do the forward drawattacklike lunch or the backward evade attack by pressing back. Also (might just be me) it feels a lot nicer to command your kinsect with just the A button. Striker is also the only stile, that allows you to charge for the strong kinsect attack while it is on your arm and still have access to your full moveset, since all the other stiles would need to hold the R and X buttons in order to do so (which limits the amount of actions they can do) while striker does not. I often use it with an impact kinsect, mark the head and just let the kinsect rack up stun damage. I usually get two stuns in one hunt like this which gives me more damage opportunities. Sure the other stiles can do that as well, but only striker can attack, dodge and immediately use a charged kinsect attack at a marked location. The other stiles would need to start charging after the dodge for the strong attack which takes time.
Gotta go with striker SnS for oil and evasion abuse, valor hammer for the added agility and upswings and valor gunlance for just making gunlance more fun to use.
My favorite is adept style lance, I never minded the whole mega poke at the end, after I figured out its timing. And the instablock counter is incredibly fun!
I've actually been playing GU instead of Iceborne (I'll get to it someday), and I've found it difficult to not gravitate towards aerial. Slamming a monster down with a hammer or charge blade is so satisfying.
I adore using the Arial style for light blowgun: Not only does it look amazing when you rapid fire over the monster, but you can use rapid fire pellets since you'd be up close to the monster already and has mounting capabilities. Add it with the skill that increases the damage while in the air an you'll definitely break the monster and break parts from it, especially bigger monsters that are hard to hit with a blade master set.
my favorite will always be striker charge blade, due to the added guard points as well as not having to worry about not charging your shield enough to avoid yellow sheild, as that is removed. Aerial Dual Blades are also a close second due to the amount of movement you can do in them
I love Aerial Dual blades so much, I have to pack some dash juice for my hunts but its so worth it. Nothing more satisfying then jumping on a monster while giving it a bunch of slices as you go.
Valor HBG is my absolute favorite. I love how ridiculously strong it is and how fast you get in valor mode. Really wish it was in worlds, miss it so much.
While my mains are the Lance, Hunting Horn, and Dual Blades, my personal guilty pleasure in this game is Striker Charge-Blade. I know overall it's not that good, nor as effective when compared to the other styles, but there's something incredibly satisfying about landing a max power Energy Blade. With the visuals and sounds, as well as the nearly guarantied flinch you get from doing it, you can actually feel like a big part of the monster's health just melted on contact. Also, I am now addicted to the added Guard Point in the standard moveset of the SnS form and I can't go back to any other style without it...
I bought this game a few months ago because I was getting burned out by world/iceborne because of the guiding lands and stuff and well I started it but never finished GU and now that I got back in to the game I’m hooked like I started with adept hunting horn and moved on to prowler
Valor gunlance is always satisfying; guardpoint reloads, rapidfire action, probably the only time in the series I've ever found a point in using normal s gunlances. Others I remember fancying (not in the video) include Fighter and Healing Cats. Fighter was my favorite aerial style, and it was stupid how many mounts you could get off it when you get angry. Healing cat was always a safe option, especially when I couldn't trust hunters (or prowlers) from dying. This guy has so much free healing, and even strong healing, that you'd have those end game cards every time if GU had them. There are others I had, but it's been a long time since I last played it.
My number one favorite combo is probably Brave Longsword, mainly because I'm a big fan of counters/parries in video games. The attack animations are also really smooth but I could say that about all the weapons.
My absolute favorite is collect prowler, there's nothing like throwing giant piercing boomerangs that absolutely wreck monsters from a safe distance. Next to that would be beast prowler.
I'm very late to the party for Gen U, but I'm trying to find a weapon for every style, my top 10 would be 10.) Aerial Bow. I love the ability to continuously fire downward from the air and it pains me that Bow didn't retain this ability in World, Iceborne, and, at least with the arts we have shown so far, Rise. The drawback, besides the gunner armor, is that the controls for bow really don't click with me in this game. I think that's why the ability to do aerial fire and circumvent the normal aiming entirely is such an appealing trait. 9.) Striker Hammer. The fast charge combined with striker's innate bonus to art gauge fill makes arts come up ridiculously quickly. While Alchemy also gets three arts, being able to chain several over and over with Striker makes Hammer able to seriously punish monsters when it gets a KO. 8.) Aerial Light Bowgun. Basically for the same reason as the bow, having rapid downward fire from the air feels so good. The bowgun controls are a bit easier for me than the bow so that alone would put it above bow, but the addition of rapid fire ammo working from the aerial vault makes it all the better. For the same reason I'm really liking the look of LBG in Rise with that leaping wirebug art. 7.) Guild Sword and Shield. I really wanted to use Striker or Alchemy for the extra art, but the backstep charge attack is too integral to how I play SwSh that it ends up worth the trade off. Something that really helps ease the pain for missing that extra art is that the SP mode for Guild has awesome synergy with SwSh's ability to use items without sheathing. 6.) Adept Heavy Bowgun. I know all the hotness is about valor HBG, but the ability to adept evade out of crouching fire is just too good. I've never been good at quickly firing off shots with high accuracy, so being able to line up my crouching shots and evade out of them makes Adept just more comfortable for me. 5.) Aerial Greatsword. Changing the draw attack to a quick aerial slash makes GS mount faster than anything else. Combined with a crit draw and quick sheath it takes the hit and run style of the weapon and makes it feel more active. 4.) Alchemy Long Sword. Access to three arts makes Striker and Alchemy both really appealing, and Striker getting super quick art build up is definitely appealing, but for me the selling point is the fade slashes. I just find sideways fade slash exponentially more useful than a backwards one, and having access to the sideways fade slash actually makes me prefer Alchemy LS over Guild's full moveset. 3.) Valor Dual Blades. I'm not a big fan of how valor crowds out the viability of most other styles in the "meta," but I like what Valor Dual Blades does not for its raw power, but for how different it makes the weapon. The demon dash replacing demon mode is just too interesting and makes a great combo with the flinch free Art that otherwise prevents normal dashing. 2.) Adept Greatsword. It might be weird to have the same weapon in my list twice, especially since I normally don't like Greatsword in MH, but adept really makes it play like nohting else for pretty much for the same reasons you outlined, but also because swapping out the normal charge slash followup for the running slash is more than worth it for me. 1.) Aerial Gunlance. Aerial Style removes the biggest drawback of the Gunlance by giving it a huge amount of mobility when coupled with Absolute Evasion, and Gunlance is one of the weapons that gets a wonderfully expanded moveset with aerial combos. Being able to vault, shell, slam, burst, or slam poke into another vault eliminates the need to reload entirely while being able to continuously pressure the monster. While it's still far from the pilebunker I wish the weapon was closer to, it's definitely a massive step up from the weapon in World, where I would put it among my least used weapons tied with Charge Blade.
I just love hearing about weapon and style combos and what makes them unique. My personal favorites are also Valor CB, by also Valor DB, Valor LS, and Striker Swaxe(infinite demon sword is just so fun). It's been a while since I played so I really should try out some new things. Valor is just so addicting.
Diablos HBG Bitter affinity Pierce up Recoil 1 Shot booster This set can keep up with the meta sets on most hunts, easy to make, and because you can Siege fire 2 ammo types you can easily save on materials because the stuff you need to make lvl pierce shots you can get from the Trader for wycadomy points so the set is realy good for beginner hbg users and it's great for multi monster quests and EX diviants

They will probably re-introduce styles in the future, since they wanted to keep the game mechanics more based for world and the new players
Alessandro Mazza they had some longsword move that was similar in frontier but that game is dead now
I just hope they do a sequel to MH:GU.
OMEGA WARIO i would play tf outta that

I recently fell in love with valor hammer. Landing an uppercut into and uppercut into giant slam is just soooooo satisfying
The only thing I hated about it was building and keeping valor. I remember that always being a pain.
@@DeadlockDrago i agree for sure, I usually dont enjoy valor but the combo is just too cool

There's just something so viscerally satisfying about Brave LS. That constant counter attack feels SO GOOD. I'll always remember the feeling when a glavenous starts charging a big tail attack, and instead of fear, I'm absolutely elated.
Whenever someone talks about the LS counter in World I just keep remembering it was so much better in GU.
I liked Adept in general. It turned Deviljho into an absolute joke.
Michael
I love adept LS on deviljho too
Be careful with the bad habits Adept style leaves you with.
GenoCL that's why you never go back after adept
when his entire body is a hit box, abuse that hit box, also same with big ZAM the zamtrios
Adept Dual Blades are made of cheese but they're just so fun. They also hard counter Glavenus
Ahhh good ol' Aerial SwitchAxe. I used that all the time with that Seregios SA. Loved it.
the clip you used at the beginning of your insect glaive tutorial is what made me go "hot damn! I gotta learn this weapon, it's lit!" XD
My favourite weapon/style combo is adept SnS, the adept backstep is hard to pull off due to it locking your trajectory once you input the move but landing it always feels good especially if you do what I like to call the reverse adept backstep. Where you put your back to the monster so that when they attack and you adept backstep through it, you end up almost chasing them down :P also it's the only adept style in the game that allows you to use an item imediately after an adept dodge instead of having to go through the whole running animation.
Adept Sns can counterattack and mount, that's a win win in my book
And it is so good at mounting due to the counter attack after an Adept Dodge doing mounting damage. It's the most reliable weapon/style against Silverwind Narga for me when you use Round Force with it, because you can cancel the roadie run at anytime with an item(especially flashies) or Round Force so you can completely avoid the double tail slam.
TheCaptainPaxo A fellow adept SnS user! My favourite thing about it is the two attacks you can do out of an adept dodge, I just find them so satisfying and useful. Haven’t been able to get the backstep timing though.

Thank you, been a while since I've seen a video I enjoyed this much about monster hunter. Love generations ultimate!
@@yodasoda06 The air dash+descending thrust glaive got in Iceborne is similar to aerial in generations I think, it allows for a lot of aggression
I'm trying out guard prowler after watching this video. But I have no clue what skills to give it. Can you recommend a build at all?
Recently Aerial Bow flew up into my top ten. I just love having a quadruple jump, as well as the ability to melee when you start to fall. I’ve dodged so many attacks by spacing out my jumps, and it feels amazing every time.
The thing about striker insect glaive is that it is very simple and all three hunter arts with insect glaive make it a blast. Sure, the combo is kind of linear feeling but just pressing A to send out the kinsect is a breath of fresh air. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't used the insect glaive yet.
That visual Adept GS miss gag got me laughing out loud. Nice video, GH!
I thought you forgot MHGU. Good to see GU content.
In Iceborne HH feels really slow and vulnerable so im not a fan
Adept GS is also a lot of fun along with LS, I just really like adept in general and sometimes valor too
As much as I love MHW the incredible amount of option in GU is just amazing, I hope MHW Ultimate or MH gen 6 will be modern but with styles option, best of both world, that would be sick
i recently bought MHGU on sale after enjoying the Rise trial and just craving more MH. it always takes me a little while to find the fun when starting up a new one but this time i needed some outside assistance. i tried the adept light bowgun setup from this vid and suddenly couldn't put the game down. where i was close to buyer's remorse before, i've now gotten more than my money's worth even if i'd bought it at full price. i owe you big time
Keep spoiling us with MHGU content, prefer it to that MHW stuff.
Was watching yesterday for the 800th time all your vids about weapons in MHGU and still not 100% sure which one to use haha
Current Aerial IG now but the Hammer and the Hunting Horn are blowing my mind!
We started playing GenU again last night :)
Thank you Gaijin Hunter
World is boring that's why, and it has barley any content.
Thanks for the detailed write up! Been curious about this
@@gaijinhunter Np man, consider it me repaying you for all your guides since MH4. ;)
My favorite is aerial gunlance with AA flares so that I can be in the air, and blow anything also in the air, out of the air.
1. Adept Charge Blade: It makes my already favorite weapon an absolute monster with dodging and guard-pointing
2. Guild Sword & Shield: I never really liked the other styles of SnS. Gotta have that charge jump attack.
3. Aerial Gunlance: Love the combos I can use and mid-air reload
4. Adept Hammer: I love being able to dodge and counter with strong hits
5. Striker Longsword: Practically NO moves have been removed from this style and I love it
6. Valor Dual Blades: I love the Valor mode with DBs. It basically has demon mode with no stamina cost.
Striker Longsword loses the side fade slash and the jumping spirit slash which is often a dealbreaker for me- I've often played Striker Longsword, but not being able pulling off combos with these moves makes me always want to use guild LS more^^
It's pretty cool that it basically has the 2nd gen LS moveset - aside from the spirit roundslash.
I really love Valor Greatsword in GenU! I used to play Adept GS back in regular Gen, but as soon as Valor was released I changed to it, I feel like it's more risky and more rewarding than adept, so much fun!
Aerial Insect Glaive is just about all I use! Love it, and always will. Valor Hammer did get me into smashing heads though.
But I definitely can't go far without my LB
please keep the mhgu content coming !! i love classic monster hunter
Wish I had as much drive to play Iceborne as I do to play MHGU every once in a while
1st place: Aerial Gunlance.
Areial Bow was so much fun to use, it made me feel like an anime character, just flipping around and sniping the head
Love this ! Can never get enough of Your vids man ! Thank you for continuing to post 🙌🏽
I picked up GU around Xmas but hadn’t gotten to put a whole lot of time in. Took vacation last week and my 11 year old son said it looked so fun I got it for him as well
Having a ton of fun with arial IG after watching all of the GU weapon tutorials, working on improving with adept bow and am planning on trying striker lance soon, can’t wait to get further in to start putting together some of the Prowler builds you’ve posted as well.
Really wish I could get into LBG, my main from World but it feels a little clunky, but will have quite a bit more time at home for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for the content, your tutorials do a great job of putting enough tools in my kit to get started and enjoying the game :)
My personal favourite is the adept horn! Like you said getting right up in the monsters face and dodging everything it throws at you it super fun.
My top 10:
1. Aerial Dual Blades
2. Striker Charge Blade
3. Aerial Insect Glaive
4. Adept Greatsword
5. Valor Greatsword
6. Aerial Hammer
7. Striker Dual Blades
8. Aerial Charge Blade
9. Valor Longsword
10. Guild Longsword
Something else Prowlers have going for them in GU:
Their longevity is improved almost infinitely in many maps with the addition of the Support Move "Far-cat-ster", which makes your cat warp to the camp as if they had used a Farcaster for the cost of 3 bars.
Perfect timing with the video!
aerial light bowgun's feels pretty awesome. the move where you do a catapult and shoot underneath you just looks incredible
My favourite styles to play are guild and adept IG. Guild just feels perfect and adept is completely braindead.
Don't judge:
10: Aerial Greatsword (fine, but I would rather use something else)
9: Aerial Longsword (against most monsters, their height is too short to hit them with the spirit III attack in the air)
8: Valor Sword and Shield (very awkward with the camera; I don't like the idea of not using the shield at all)
7: Alchemy Greatsword (against most monsters, I struggle to find openings)
6: Valor Hammer (great stun damage but I feel underpowered [I test weapon style combo strength against V10 Ukanlos while taking elemental weaknesses into consideration])
5: Aerial LBG (very fun but I feel underpowered)
4: Adept Longsword (great damage and very fun but very situational)
3: Guild Switchaxe (Really fun and good damage but not the safest weapon style combo)
2: Valor Greatsword (I love this style for grinding monster because of the high damage and good safety cuz of valor sheath)
1: Alchemy/Guild Charge Blade (I can't choose between the two styles because I like them so much; to my taste, this is just as powerful as valor Charge Blade and more hit-and-run [which is what I like in weapons] as well as really fun too)
I feel like valor ls is the most fun.
(World does that better imo)
It means you can more easily charge an insect attack while attacking with the glaive.
I miss the sword and shield from generations. Could never go back to S&S in world because it felt like a downgrade
World SnS is in good shape (specially with the recent buff), but yeah, the oils where amazing. I hope they return on the next MH

It's perfect timing that you made this honestly, I was wondering which weapon you played the most.
I just bought MHGU not long ago.
The footage in this video is so satisfying. Beautiful gameplay
All the people playing MHW and I still prefer the classic ones... Well, MHGU is not "classic", but... I prefer the online mechanic of this one.
Same. While I love the convenience of the S.O.S. flares, it's really disappointing that there's no incentive to remain together. The online sessions, aside from the occasional siege, don't really have you interact with the other players. The smaller hubs in GU just encourage more communication with everyone from my experience.
I play both. It's like with Street Fighter 4 and 3, they're different games altogether.
It’s like sonic, think of it this way. Sonic Mania isn’t considered a “classic” but it’s in the style of classic Sonic games. Same goes for MHGU
Mine will probably be something like this:
*10. Striker Switch Axe*. Fantastic hunter arts, specially the Demon Riot + Energy Charge combo still nuts even after the nerfs.
9. Striker Charge Blade. Extra axe damage with good hunter arts? I'm all about it
I love running in, jumping in the air off the monster, and slamming down on their face over and over again.
Dual baldes aerial isnt optimal but is without a doubt the must fun in the whole game.

I don't remember if it was you or Arekkz that slapped Valstrax out of the air with CB, but that clip is still fresh in my mind.

my favorite will always be striker charge blade, due to the added guard points as well as not having to worry about not charging your shield enough to avoid yellow sheild, as that is removed. Aerial Dual Blades are also a close second due to the amount of movement you can do in them
I love Aerial Dual blades so much, I have to pack some dash juice for my hunts but its so worth it. Nothing more satisfying then jumping on a monster while giving it a bunch of slices as you go.
Nothing beats the feeling of freedom when you're using aerial Insect Glaive
MHW has become a big giant buffet but nothing beats the comfort food MH Gen Ult provides for me. :-)
I love that your huntress looks like a schoolgirl/cheerleader uwu
I'm very late to the party for Gen U, but I'm trying to find a weapon for every style, my top 10 would be
10.) Aerial Bow.
Diablos HBG
Bitter affinity
Pierce up
Recoil 1
Shot booster
This set can keep up with the meta sets on most hunts, easy to make, and because you can Siege fire 2 ammo types you can easily save on materials because the stuff you need to make lvl pierce shots you can get from the Trader for wycadomy points so the set is realy good for beginner hbg users and it's great for multi monster quests and EX diviants
