  • Join the Plum Village community for some warm ups and four sets of four Qi Gong exercises. They're a great way to wake up the body after morning sitting meditation. Enjoy!
This clip was shot in June 2015 during the Deep Sustainability Retreat (or the "Happy Farmers Retreat"). Thay Phap Dung leads this session in Still Water Meditation Hall at Upper Hamlet, Plum Village (France).

Qigong is good in a way that you can practice the same exercises and achieve different results. When we need to relax and nourish our body, we can move slowly applying less stress and pressure on muscles and tendons, when we need to boost the energy level and activate Qi, we can use the same exercises and apply more pressure to stretch the tissues and muscles and increase flexibility. It's definitely a very good Qigong routine, just need to be mindful and listen to your body what it needs at the moment.

Brother Dung, thank you for the excellent Qigong video. Question? Were you a martial artist before you were a monk? Your movement skills remind me of my own Sifu. Blessings.

We would love for our media to meet the highest standards, but this video was made very casually by propping an iPad on a chair just after meditation. This half-hour exercise session is a glimpse into an average morning in Upper Hamlet during spring retreat. We welcome people of all ages, energy levels and backgrounds. Thanks for understanding the spirit of this qi gong offering.

@@WakeUpSchoolsPlumVillage Yes, I totally understand the circumstances in which this was made and am grateful to have it available. I was just mentioning the obvious for someone watching and doing the practice for the first time. I found there were some sequences when I couldn't see all of what Br Phap Dung was doing and referred to students to see what they were seeing. It was less bothersome on subsequent practices as the practice became more fluid for me. Gassho.
