    As a kid, I skated approximately 20 hours each week for about 11-12 years. Basically a speed skater. It's been a minute but yesterday I bought a new pair of skates and I'll start hitting it this weekend. I turn 70 in a few months and the doctors want to remove or replace pretty much everything I have and I have zero plans for letting them do it. Skating will be my secret weapon.

      @@Kira_Aros Hi! Thanks for reaching out. I started back, not as strongly as I’d imagined, but not horrible either. I sucked it up and wore a bicycle helmet and pads from my enduro motorcycling kit. Took some falls but no injuries. Two weeks later I’m recovering from a gallbladder removal and two weeks after that I’m recovering from having a frig’n pacemaker put in. Heart rate dropped below 20 during the gallbladder thing. However, my agreement with the cardiologist was to set the default rate high enough so that as I continue to regain my fitness there won’t be anymore bs about concerns over lowering heart rates. I should be get clearance to resume skating on June 4. ( fall too hard too soon and it’s not uncommon to dislodge the pacemaker probes and have to start all over…no thanks😂)
      Hope to report killer results soon!
      All the best ✔️

    I thought I had watched every crossover video on UA-cam, but somehow I missed yours until today. You really cover this skill well. I love the phases and I’ll be trying them. I’ve been working on this skill a lot. I’ll get really comfortable with it after a couple hours at the rink, but a week later when I go back, I feel so stiff it’s nearly as bad as starting over. Uggh. I can’t wait to try your phases. I may just start over and build like you suggested. Thank you!

  • @ashleykbarks

    I was at the rink and I got 3/4 of the way to a crossover without having seen your video, and realize I was so close without any true guidance. I think because I sprained both my wrists doing spins, I have been scared to commit to the crossover because I don't want to hurt myself more until my wrists heal. But I think I've got it, next time I'll try to commit.

    I can't wait to try your exercises. I use to do crossover, but due to a tendon operation, I lost some muscle and control in one leg. These will help me build back up. I still got my counter clockwise crossovers, but clockwise I don't feel the control or ease. Thanks for the advice.

    the funny thing is Tess is that my thighs started to burn in the middle of the rink lol. and to make matters worse, i wear a size 13 skate so it makes for a tricky crossover. when lifting the boot over the other boot, it feels like i need a crane to make sure it clears lol. but im going to keep trying cuz it looks to cool when ppl do it , thanks T.

    Isn't it harder to do crossovers with heeled skates?

  • @this-that57
    @this-that57 11 місяців тому

    Just found your channel today. I am still at the very beginner level of skating, so this is way more advanced than I am. But I am always looking for as much information and instruction as I can get. I am still struggling with trying to skate on concrete. The options available to me are pretty limited and not the greatest. Very rough surfaces (to me) that scare the hell out of me! I have 78a wheels, but still get caught up on the slightest bump. Do you have any videos that go into detail on how to get started on a rough surface when you're just beginning? I've been at this for over two months, and have yet to actually skate. What I've been doing is so little, I can't really classify it as "skating." Help!

    • @SkatewithTess
      @SkatewithTess  11 місяців тому +1

      Hey there! Try to find a smooth parking lot or go to a local skating rink. Starting on a smooth surface would be ideal!

    • @this-that57
      @this-that57 11 місяців тому

      @@SkatewithTess unfortunately there aren't really any of those options available to me where I live. I am practicing on a somewhat smooth concrete, but it's a narrow surface, so I am really limited on what I can do. There is a huge area of concrete that would be perfect for anyone who knows what they're doing, but for me, it's terrifying. It's rough and I can't even get going before I feel like I'm going to fall. It's so frustrating.
