That was a rollercoaster of a challenge. I honestly forgot that Dead Peppers could even damage in game cus let's be real why would you ever use them in combat (Not sure if the help menu on the items tells you it does damage or not). Major props for beating the challenge and even getting the kill on Ozma. Also major props to Daph for the amazing editing, the little jokes added in gave me a few laughs like the math calculation on Kuja and trying to prevent Vivi fighting the monster in Treno.
I would absolutely LOVE to see you do something for Lost Odyssey. Considering its main mechanic, im sure you can get fairly overpowered before getting your fourth party member.

Some of us clearly wonder if it's possible to do the six boss rush without a second dark matter but many comments have a wrong hp number for some bosses so I did the math while making sure to reproduce the situation in the video. Short answer: it's possible. The dark matter must be used against the first boss. The outcome can differ depending on which boss gets the dark matter because it changes how much damage is done in surplus. Here are the details. First of all, we need the right number of hp for each boss. Amdusias: 20926 (not 6578 which is the Treno version) Abadon: 10926 (but a version with 12658 exists) Shell Dragon: 10921 (but a version with 12661 exists) Siver Dragon: 24055 Garland: 40728 Kuja: 42382 The documented hp number of boss Shell Dragon is probably right. However, the 10921 hp does not match the calculation in the video and using the dark matter against Kuja should have killed him. Here are the details in that scenario. From what I understood, the boss Shell Dragon only starts to take damage after Dagger is available so maybe that's why one dead pepper was wasted. My challenge would be to finish FFIX without breaking down into tears every big story moment, laughing, pondering existence and marveling at the beauty of the cinematics to this day. If they remake this game i will be in the hospital hyperventilating and hugging everyone on the way out lol. (I love the game)

Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL Ozma kills, and end-game bosses, and making it to disc 3 Chocobo Forest. Never knew about Dead Peppers for the longest time, not until a person's video about fighting the Friendly Yan. Also never knew for the longest time even about Gysahl Greens curing Berserk.
I was 9years old when ff9 came out it is so nostalgic this game to me, Final Fantasy 8 and 7 included were amazing at that age on the hardware we was used to using. Memories
"Became too soft to live" - I don't remember seeing this on my several playthroughs of the game but this was too hilarious for me to not comment on XDD
Impressive challenge run, really liked this one. It always amazes me what can be done when you really want to push the limits in these games. For the Terra part: I didn't do the math, but it should be optimal to open with Dark Matter before using any Dead Peppers. This saves you the most pepper uses and ensures they are a bit stronger once you start the final boss of the area, maybe it would've been enough to carry you through the area. Not that I would've tried that on the first attempt, I would've wanted to preserve the Dark Matter as well.
@@Primalliquid92 But your peppers do additional damage for the ammount you have, so for the fight vs. Silver dragon you save 15-17(?) peppers, regarding the number of peppers at that moment the ammount of saved peppers and their additional damage thanks to a higher stock should be over 13.000
I'm actually excited for this. FFX items only is easily my favourite challenge video. I would like to see more item runs in other JRPGs like Legend of Dragoon, octopath, Shadow Hearts, etc.

Love seeing ff9 challenges... favourite game out of them all. I've been doing a FF9 nuzlocke attempt... can't say I've seen one on UA-cam so thought I'd try it. Dunno if that's worth a go as well... I do it where can't revive if character gets knocked unless the story naturally revives them. Doing gizamaluke with only 2 people was tough lol
I feel like the Ozma battle could have been less painful if you didn't make everyone immune to some of the spells it uses. Not sure if you had everyone immune to Shadow but having 1 person die isn't terrible to prevent healing. 4 days though? damn. That's commitment.
with the way ozma works it doesnt matter, my auto regen keeps everybody topped anyway but his meteor attack can easily 1 shot the whole party if unlucky and he uses it along with curse? its insta game over pretty much

Dear God I can't stress enough how much that statement on crappy mobile gachas is appreciated. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills hearing everyone I associate with online constantly going on about them. One wouldn't stop insisting I would like Genshin until I bit the bullet and gave it a couple hours of my life I'll never get back before getting level/time gated after seeing nothing unique in the game that wasn't stolen from BotW or Xenoblade 2. Both of which are vastly better games. Absolute lunacy. Pretty cool seeing you use the BW3 2nd fight auto-win. I think I pointed it out ages ago in another one of these challenge videos and I was pretty happy to see this one pop up in my sub box. IX really is a versatile gem of a game, I can still play it in its entirety and have a blast. Small wonder it's my favourite in the series. Of all the places I thought this run would go, disc 3 Ozma was NOT one of them. Huge kudos to the wins there moreso than finishing the game. I think the only thing missing would have been popping your head into Hades' fight just to see his shock over the fact that you killed Ozma first, a fun little easter egg and nothing more. It'd be a funny reflection of my and other viewers' reactions for sure.

You're insane, in the best possible way. These are so fun to watch, and I feel the pain dripping out of every pore when you say you spend hours farming or days playing Hot and Cold (it took me HOURS just to get the 10k for ONE robe of lords and you had over 40k and did it SO early!!). The challenges you give yourself are so insane, you really are half-mad/half-pure inspiration. I dont' know how you can keep topping yourself. What's next, a poison only challenge? Or a RASP only challenge for FF6? What about you can only fight/level up in this game against characters whose tetra card you have leveled up to A (excluding forced fights)?
Not watched yet but you could create series out of these challenges then one summation video at the end. Dangs08 attack only series was amazing and I’d happily watch you do something similar with your insane challenges (just cut grinding bits) love your content primal!

Man I love FF9, Even when doing something bonkers like this the game is a delight. Cudos for the win, I don't envy you the amount of grinding you must have done for Chocobo Hot and Cold :)
Great challenge as always, love watching them, keep them coming. Had an idea for another challenge, currently trying it myself but, could you complete Final Fantasy 9 without spending a single gil? No Synth, No Shops, No Chocobo Hot N Cold. All Weapons, Accessories, Armour and Items etc have to be accumulated via stealing, treasure chests, or just randomly finding them laying around.
I actually am curious if maybe using the Dark Matter earlier in one of the 3 boss fights at the end of Tera would actually make it possible to do it without getting a 2nd one. Reason being that it's now 9999 less damage you have to deal with peppers meaning less pepper uses overall over the course of all 3 boss fights. But I didn't math it out, tbf. The 2nd Dark Matter probably was necessary, and I commend you, PrimalLiquid, for your dedication to insanity lol
I had the exact same thought while watching this so I did some math. Using the DM on Garland leaves you short and using it on the silver dragon leaves you like a few hundred damage short. BUT! You can use peppers 99-96 to kill Amduseus, peppers 95-92 kill Abadon, 1 dark matter and pepper 91 kills Shell dragon. THEN: peppers 90-81 kill silver dragon, peppers 80-61 kill Garland, peppers 60-29 deal 42720 to kuja, leaving 28 peppers to spare. Actually, looking back at the video he uses way more peppers on the first 3 encounters than should be used. i dont know if some of the damage is getting negated before the party shows up in each fight or whats going on.
I would've said Amarant's Throw ability should be fair game. It's not the "Items" command, but you're still using consumable items, which perfectly falls within the spirit of the challenge.
Could you have let the first boss kill your party to start the game with 99 dead peppers? The plant ads you could technically reset until you get only 2. Other than that, i couldn't see too many more ways to optimise this challenge, great job.
I was going to mention this exact same thing, I was certain that the first baku fight you can let him win and it doesn't count as a game over. Unless they changed it in the remaster? (It's also a speedrun strat to my knowledge to just K.O the party instead of baku)
Crazy challenge! Also you could have done Baku without cheating by letting him kill your party, but then again, who cares when it's the same result anyways 😅

Yes! Indeed, "abusing" petrification items and such are one of the strategies to reach Memoria before 12hrs. Your additional rules obviously make this more uneeasonable- but boy you're gonna have fun lol

Lots of cool challenge runs for Persona 4 and 5 especially, and it's gonna be real hot in a few months with Persona 3 Reload coming out soon.

Honestly, I had no idea you could even use Dead Peppers to deal damage. When I read the title, my first thought was: "how are you going to win any fights with items, other than Tents?" Also, I can't believe Ozma's loot is RANDOM! That is so evil!
I think you'll be able to scrape by. Soon you'll get the throw command, won't you? Plus tent strats, so... It'll be really hard, but I think you might be able to pull it off.

they do fixed damage so if i saved them or not my total damage output wouldnt actually have changed

I thought so, too. Using the DM on the Dragon saves 15-17(?) peppers and keeps them stronger as well, because of the higher stock.

You're insane, in the best possible way. These are so fun to watch, and I feel the pain dripping out of every pore when you say you spend hours farming or days playing Hot and Cold (it took me HOURS just to get the 10k for ONE robe of lords and you had over 40k and did it SO early!!).
The challenges you give yourself are so insane, you really are half-mad/half-pure inspiration. I dont' know how you can keep topping yourself. What's next, a poison only challenge? Or a RASP only challenge for FF6? What about you can only fight/level up in this game against characters whose tetra card you have leveled up to A (excluding forced fights)?
Not watched yet but you could create series out of these challenges then one summation video at the end. Dangs08 attack only series was amazing and I’d happily watch you do something similar with your insane challenges (just cut grinding bits) love your content primal!

Man I love FF9, Even when doing something bonkers like this the game is a delight. Cudos for the win, I don't envy you the amount of grinding you must have done for Chocobo Hot and Cold :)
Great challenge as always, love watching them, keep them coming. Had an idea for another challenge, currently trying it myself but, could you complete Final Fantasy 9 without spending a single gil? No Synth, No Shops, No Chocobo Hot N Cold. All Weapons, Accessories, Armour and Items etc have to be accumulated via stealing, treasure chests, or just randomly finding them laying around.
I actually am curious if maybe using the Dark Matter earlier in one of the 3 boss fights at the end of Tera would actually make it possible to do it without getting a 2nd one. Reason being that it's now 9999 less damage you have to deal with peppers meaning less pepper uses overall over the course of all 3 boss fights.
But I didn't math it out, tbf. The 2nd Dark Matter probably was necessary, and I commend you, PrimalLiquid, for your dedication to insanity lol
I had the exact same thought while watching this so I did some math. Using the DM on Garland leaves you short and using it on the silver dragon leaves you like a few hundred damage short. BUT!
You can use peppers 99-96 to kill Amduseus, peppers 95-92 kill Abadon, 1 dark matter and pepper 91 kills Shell dragon.
THEN: peppers 90-81 kill silver dragon, peppers 80-61 kill Garland, peppers 60-29 deal 42720 to kuja, leaving 28 peppers to spare.
Actually, looking back at the video he uses way more peppers on the first 3 encounters than should be used. i dont know if some of the damage is getting negated before the party shows up in each fight or whats going on.

I would've said Amarant's Throw ability should be fair game. It's not the "Items" command, but you're still using consumable items, which perfectly falls within the spirit of the challenge.
I love the utter madness of having a challenge that's only beatable if you beat the "super" boss before the final boss.
Could you have let the first boss kill your party to start the game with 99 dead peppers?
The plant ads you could technically reset until you get only 2.
Other than that, i couldn't see too many more ways to optimise this challenge, great job.

I was going to mention this exact same thing, I was certain that the first baku fight you can let him win and it doesn't count as a game over.
Unless they changed it in the remaster?
(It's also a speedrun strat to my knowledge to just K.O the party instead of baku)

Ps great on ozma that planet is so hard especially the first time I entered battle I was like yeah I'll just take this and then I completely got wiped off the map until I got everything else done I like the unique take on the super boss having low HP but being so deadly that it is basically a race to see who's more lethal more fast anyway good video as always
I didn't realize that you didn't have to actually do any damage to Beatrix, and the poisoning with tents was a really good way to handle the trash fights.
