It's been exactly two months since I got the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. Has it replaced my Galaxy S23 Ultra? Did Apple manage to fix the overheating issues I was getting in the first few weeks? I also share some useful hacks I learned recently which make the iPhone 15 Pro Max way more useful by combining the Action Button and Siri Shortcuts.

I just spent some time travelling with a 15 Pro Max and a Leica M11 with an extremely expensive Apo 35 lens.
The iPhone produced some excellent images. Not a patch on the M11 of course but truly a great lightweight alternative.
My iPhone is the 1Tb and I was able to use the phone instead of a laptop for editing Ava image backup. Really got to love that.
Definitely a lot to be said about that convenience and quality. Have you tried any of the ND filters for the iPhone or just using the phone settings? I’m not a photographer but I’ve seen some stunning work out there with the iPhone

Well well, I must say that was one of the best and the most honest review that I saw lately. Great job as always and I agree with you, Apple almost did enough to go back, but after you get used to multitasking on android is really hard to go back to the iPhone again until they fix the software. Thank you for the video.
And about the base models? Are they worth buying?
I like the animations in apple devices OS compared to androids'. I also like the audio quality and the notification tunes. Does the keyboard have speak to text? I rarely type since S7 edge and now I'm kinda transitioning from swype and beginning to use speech to text more and more. Then one day, my colleague (iphone user) asked if I was recording voice messages. His face went blank when I said I was just texting.

Been enjoying your vids for a while. I’m due (more like, I’m nerdy enough to want) an upgrade from my Pixel 7 Pro but will hold off until the S24 Ultra comes out and see your vids in that before deciding whether or not to stick with the Pixel, move to Samsung or go back to Apple. Main priority for me is the camera and my Pixel is still fantastic in that regard. By the way, love the Senna helmet!

I'm sorry but the 15 looks the same as the previous ones. The only thing I will consider in getting 15 is the pink + 😅 Btw, I love my S23 Ultra, its the best Sammy and Android I've ever had. From the camera, customizations and multi-tasking 😉

I think all manufacturers are cutting back on the design front nowadays to be fair. In my opinion, even big leaps and bounds hardware-wise will soon practically cease, to be replaced by AI and software based upgrades year upon year. I own an S23 Ultra as my daily like yourself, and I love the thing totally. Best android device ever. By a mile.

Hi thank you for the video. I have the 15 pro max in titanium blue but I just feel like something is very wrong with the front camera it’s dark dull blurry and over sharpened once I press the shutter button. I feel like my 13 front camera was so much better really I’m very disappointed in its selfie cam. Can u help with settings please or how to fix
Hi there, I can relate to that. I really don't like the selfie camera. My recommendation is to try and use BlackMagic cam app (free) and play around with the manual settings there. But honestly, if that doesn't help it may be the case to take it to a genius bar and see if there is something wrong with the hardware
I just upgraded my headphones (IEMS) and decided to add the bluetooth adapters. The sound quality even over bluetooth is stunning at realtive low cost for both the IEMS and bluetooth adapaters. Literally peanuts for top shelf sound quality that I used to pay $600+ from companies like Shure (that required a headphone cord). I haven't used Apple for music streaming or anything else really especially since I pay for UA-cam Premium and Amazon Music. I guess people who use Tidal already knew this but come to find out that the $1400 USD iPhone 15 Pro Max still can't err I mean won't decode Hi-Res Bluetooth Codecs other than its own AAC. Which really corners you into either using the dongle or having to invest in a external DAC with the antenna thing (even for it's own propietary Apple lossless files!). I mean for an audiophile who just spent $1,500 USD on a phone.... deal breaker. Especially with Android apps like Wavelet which have dozens of AKG, Sennheiser sound profiles built in. But good news for Airpods sales Mr. Tim Cook.
I’m thinking of the iPhone 15 pro max but music via headphones is important to me .. are the Samsung phones a lot better ? .. I am using the mark levinson no 5909 ? .. it’s hard to find any reviews of sound quality .. many thanks …
@xl5man the iPhone is fine for headphones especially with the $9 Apple dongle. The advantage Samsung has is that you can skip the dongle altogether still get extremely close sound quality wise with an inexpensive Bluetooth DAC that connects to headphones cable port. Basically with the Samsung, any wired headphones can be made into wireless with a small clip-on Bluetooth DAC and you don't lose any of the sound stage. You can do this with the iPhone too but the rub is that you can't wireless stream most of the hi resolution music file types, especially LDAC. Which is limiting to say the least. Basically you have to be tethered to the charging port on the iPhone to enjoy the highest quality audio files whereas with the Samsung you can enjoy with or without the cord. As a workaround for iPhone, you can buy a Bluetooth transmitter inexpensively for indoor iPhone use but it doesn't support all music file types. Which is crazy. And I don't think Apple has anything similar to the Wavelet App that let's you quickly fine tune the Equalizer settings based on headphone model like the 5909. Those EQ presets based on headphone model is one of the coolest things about Android. Those presets are uploaded for free by audio engineers so you don't have to sit there fumbling. On my profile I have all the most popular headphones added so I can quickly change between the AKG tunning to Sony depending on the genre of music. Very cool when you get that one track with excessive bass or too much brightness.

I’m 100% doing a video on routines, it’s so powerful! We can also use the side button as a double tap to call routines. It doesn’t go as deep in the action as the Siri Shortcuts but very useful! Will definitely upload something soon on that 👊🏼

Got iPhone 15 pro max from one week. I do not know if they improved it with software or just the first batch of the production had this issue but I did not experience overheating or even having iPhone 15 pro max hot. Just wondering if overheating problem was a problem of few people and media made it of it huge issue like they use to or just like I mentioned the first batch of the iPhones left the factory with defects.
As a very satisfied S23 Ultra owner looking in, I just want to say that all the hysteria surrounding any perceived defect in an early production run device is something that occurs with ANY new device. Now that all this rubbish surrounding the IPhone 15 is yesterday's news, people can see what a great device it is. If you own any flagship phone on any operating system, you truly are blessed and should always be aware of this.

Watching this on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Dumped my S23 Ultra because of having an AWU so had no choice. But I enjoy the iPhone nevertheless.

Shortcut launch animations feel so intrusive and redundant a lot of the times it makes me rather just do things manually. I wish their persistence on the dynamic island was optional.
They do right?! I also get some times the animation on the dynamic island and it stays there like after the action completed, for no reason...I hate the dynamic island full stop 🤣

Alex, nice video as always but on software, i think this score is top high. I give 3 on 5. On my 13 Pro, i have put a shortcut with a menu linked to others shortucts, depending on focus mode. This shortcut is on my homescreen and also stay on the bottom line. Action button is nice but a little bit overated. iOS is still far behind Android for many basic things:
⬇
1⃣ If you want to unlock easily you can't, you have to put your iPhone in position to Face Unlock and then you still an extra swipe to get your home screen.
2⃣ If i want you want go back quick and easy, you can't, there is no equivalent to Android Back Gesture on iOS: Navigation Gestures from Left to Right and from Right to Left; you can't : only from Left to Right.
3️⃣ If you want to write a text and use numbers easily you can't, no Keyboard with numbers row key on top, you have to install Gboard, or Microsoft Swiftkey or another, and toggle numbers line in parameters.
4️⃣ If you want to Multitasking, you can't, no Split screen, Dynamic Island is nothing compare to Android Split View. Same for floating Windows.
5️⃣ If you want to use the same app, with 2 different account because you have 2 separate activities, you can't, no Cloned Apps.
6️⃣ If you like to do set up you cameras when shooting, you can't, no Pro Camera mode by default, you have to buy an app like Halide and you have to pay for it.
7️⃣If you want to make homescreen the way you like, you can't move app icons othey way you you want, top, bottom, left, right with empty space or not, iOS tells you NOPE.
8️⃣There is no Link To Windows app on iOS to allow me an easy connection with my Windows 💻.
You have stated multiple points that are incorrect. I am typing on my 15PM and I have a top number row on Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard. Also, we do have a back button on iphone by swiping from left to right.
I came from a S21 Ultra, S20, Note 8, 5, 4, 3 and Galaxy S3 and was burnt out on customizing, even with Nova Launcher. Never used split screen on any phone and several supported it. Both OS systems are great just different. The camera on the 15PM rocks minus some occasional light glare. I do miss Google Assistant and the x10 camera which I hear the S24 will drop.
You can unlock your iPhone in a single gesture in any case with a 15 pro max.
To unlock mine I just have to make a swip up you just have to use the always on display
@@MrArno14 Yes, you have one gesture, not from both side like Android. You have to use Always On Display but you don't, it's not like Android where you just have to wake up the screen, use fingerprint scanner or face unlock. This extra gesture when you phone is unlock is useless.

I do think they're getting better, but progress feels so slow from a software perspective... which is why ultimately, I'm still happy with my S23U and Fold5 setup. The cameras on the iPhone are superb but the software just feels bit limiting as I said

yeah, the battery is fine for most days. When I push it with ProRes recording or gaming it definitely takes a beating
I bought my 15 pm yesterday and today with the 1st charging there are issues.. The pop up sound and animation keep showing up every 2-3min while charging
whoa! that is not right... I still get some weird bugs with UA-cam app showing random blank screens and the audio feedback when typing feels a bit off too. But overall, when I compare to the experience I had with the 14 Pro Max this is a big improvement. I'd say give it 2-3 days, let it settle but then take it back to Apple if its still like that

I set up the shortcut menu and one thing i dont like is how unnecessary the shortcuts animations on the dynamic island feel. So annoying, wish i could turn that off.
Couldn't agree more, in my previous video I mentioned that very point. Everything feels very slow and laboured for no reason
My favorite is when i launch a playlist from a shortcut and the shortcut and Now Playing compete for my attention in the dynamic island.

iPhone just does it better. I got the 15 Pro max and I love it. The cameras are way better than the 14 pro max and that zoom!! amazing!! maybe there is no 100x zoom like a Samsung but I’m fine with that. I can’t wait for the iPhone 16 pro max 😮 😅

I used androids phones for maybe 15 years. Yesterday I tested S23 Ultra and people who moving look blurred and picture is not sharp (even in camera assistant and pro mode don't look good). Don't get why they didn't fix it. I heard it's hardware thing. It's shame. The phone that costs 999$ takes blurred photos.. I also tested 15 Pro Max and I don't know why but shapes of people, objects and also colors look natural and more pleasant for our eyes. Do u have the same feelings?

Learn how to use it first. It's not an iPhone,and it works differently...
It's because of shutter speed/lag on Samsung phones. Same problem that is present for years now, on every device. Try taking a pic of anything that's moving without it being blurry - not possible. Try it indoors (even with the great lights) - pictures are unusable. No matter what the settings are. Bad camera experience is main reason I regret buying S23U, it's mediocre at best, certainly not on 1000+ bucks level.
@stevanb.2590 Sad, you buy a phone for the camera... You're spending a lot more money than you have to, you can get a very nice mirrorless camera for less.

Both would do a great job at that. I prefer the Fold as it allows me to do way more, especially if you get a S-Pen for it. I did a review a couple of weeks ago, not sure if you’ve seen that, about the Fold. It may help with your decision 👊🏼

Hey man, I really like your content but just wanted to make a suggestion and you can take it or leave it. I think most people are here to get your opinions on things, and so areas like at 3:21 when you spend 30 seconds just showing broll of the phone, it feels like a waste of time. Thanks Alex, am definitely listening and will take it onboard. I try to break the rhythm a little bit and change the scene and leave space for people to take the info in. Hard balance but will definitely try and keep them to a minimum and where it makes sense. Maybe it's because I'm editing it myself and end up watching the vudeo 100 times before it goes live 😆 In truth, the data tells me that when I do this there's higher retention so will see if I can find a happy medium. I like your suggestion of using images from the phone itself 👊🏼

That thing you called action button is the most useless thing in the whole iphone.
Each year I LOOK for enough reasons to go back and each year I end up sticking with Samsung Ultra lines. Dislike Apple's confined walls that only allow you to do what some engineer in Cupertino wants you to be able to do. Don't get me wrong, iPhone is an excellent product, just not enough for me to switch. IPhone is overrated in my book. But, that's just me (and the rest of the Android world) 😅.
The look and feel of iOS is so long in the tooth that it puts a Sabre toothed tiger to shame. I’m gonna ditch my 13 pro max for either the Huawei Mate 60 Pro or Honor Magic 6 Pro.

I agree. To be honest, Dynamic Island aside, I think most of the improvements I’d want to see are software related. The hardware is pretty awesome I think
@AlexGTech also the s23 ultra can get dynamic island but it's things like dex , smart view , emulation , samsung members , the ability to download anything from anywhere at anytime, faster charging speed, multi tasking, s pen gestures and usage when my fingers get tired and camera from distance functionality etc why Samsung is superior still

Honestly? For my use case, I am already pretty happy. It could be better but it it's less about Android manufacturers and more about the interaction between brands.
I'd love for what just happened to iMessage to happen to everything else. I've been saying this for a while, as consumers we shoudl be able to buy whatever device we want and that should work with everything else. It's a mess to have to get 3rd party apps to send things between my Android and my Apple devices. There should be a universal way to communicate between devices, regardless of ecosystem.

To be transparent I do have the iPhone 14 pro max to sync my Apple watch ultra. I just need to find a watch that can replace the Apple watch for me and I'll likely only own a Mac.
4k 24 frames is not the way, it does not look very good from a watcher perspective. minimum 60 fps looks very nice and smooth and not choppy. Great video quality
Yes I guess it’s a preference thing. I like 30 or 60 for product shots but prefer 24 for filming people.

I find this comment absolutely hilarious... 24fps is actually the standard frame rate that ALL Hollywood movies are shot in. I can tell you are confusing movie frame rates with gaming frame rates for the simple fact you called it choppy.
In gaming 24fps IS choppy, but in cinematography and film making 24fps is the frame rate that gives the image that "film look".
@peacelove8395 brother I’m not trying to pick a fight, however when he is filming outside at 24 fps, his body movement is choppy and weird, in my opinion it doesn’t look good even if the video quality is great.
And I just checked and not all movies are filmed in 24 fps, for example the hobbit is in 48 fps, Gemini man 120 fps. Cheers
I was a big iPhone user but it's just boring & nothing major has changed Samsung is way better I have the green s23 ultra & defiantly staying with Samsung can do so much more with Samsung over iPhone customisation wise I usually switch between iPhone & Samsung but definately staying with Samsung

No I’ll never buy another iPhone because they (being Apple) FRACKED all US customers by taking the sim tray away from us.
Some don’t care about the sim tray and some need the sim tray. I’m a need sim tray person.
So, Apple takes the sim tray from US customers, yet China gets two sim trays and the rest of the planet gets one.
I had 2500. Budgeted for a 14ProMax and a 14Plus.
That money is now going to my iPhone replacement, that DOES have sim trays, and more.
A company that hasn’t forgotten its customers, and that still provides value for the price paid. Yes it’s android and that is not ideal. But apple lost a long time customer with that single fracked up move.
If anyone is curious, my new home is OnePlus. Their UI is very iOS like which makes the transition much easier.

I dont know, I think the hardware is pretty awesome and they exceeded my expectations with the video quality. But the S23 Ultra for me is already more capable overall for me so it would suprise me if the S24U didn't go even further. It's getting harder really to compare them as they are becoming so different in what they provide
