Sony A7C Review: a little ripper!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2020
- The Sony A7C is a small in size, big in specs full-frame camera with a large ISO range, 24.2MP sensor, and fast autofocus. Coming in at $1,800, it has the sensor, processor, and autofocus system of 2018’s A7 III in a body that’s closer in size to the A6600. Becca Farsace has the full review.

If you could have any full-frame camera, which one would you choose for photography?
Sony a7R IV
@@umah. Lol haha just returned mine today for an R3 + a6100 and still got some money left over
@@fabricio44444 didn't say I would buy one tho...
Panasonic s5 or Nikon z6
@@umah. Hahahaha 🤣 u win!
That low light performance is nutty! Those photos look crazy sharp too
Its worth mentioning this camera records gyroscopic data with video so the footage can be stabilised in Sonys Catalyst Browse or Image Edge app for really very smooth and impressive footage (gimbal-like even)
So they provide gyro data in order for the user to spend hours doing post processing activities to get cropped and soft stabilised footage rather than providing a decent IBIS system in the first place. Nice one Sony.
@@mpgnz73 I guess smaller body means less space for IBS system to move around.
It's understandable though.
@@liuliukiu correct, we cant have everything in one camera, yet :)
@@mpgnz73 not really - I only need a few seconds of stabalized footage - say a person tracking shot - its a really good feature that saves me bringing and balancing a gimbal.
Yes - nice feature that I'll definitely use.
I know nothing about cameras or photography. But i still watch these videos.
Same.
Becca, you're awesome! I seriously feel like you're an old friend. and we're just nerding out over cameras. Keep up the great work!
This is an absolutely fantastic review, it feels natural, with real world examples of why the features work.
Not to mention an interesting, and engaging reviewer.
On ya the verge, and thanks Becca.
Becca if you can please make a video on best cameras in different price bracket

The Verge yes please
+1
Yeah pls do this

Becca has quickly become one of my most favourite tech personalities. So much life in her.
Her energy is contagious and jumps through the screen. She’s a keeper!
When the original A7 first launched, it was the smallest full frame mirrorless camera in the world. Seven years later, they've done it again.
I find Becca’s reviews are very humble and real. Feels like watching reviews from someone I know for long time. Interesting 🤔.
Becca, you are by far my favorite reviewer with The Verge, and I love your whole crew. Every time I see one of your vids I have to watch, even if it’s a product I’m not particularly interested in. Keep up the awesome work.
Becca, you should 100% get your own channel, love your
style !!
I completely agree! ;)
Really enjoyed this review even though I'm not a camera guy
In the UK, a little ripper means a small fart - not those stinkers, but a mini one. :D
In London it's also a certain Jack
Sounds about right for this cam
becca: *lemme ignore that*
America has a similar saying.
😂
Doing research on cameras always felt like work to me. You made this video so easy and enjoyable to watch!
Know nothing about photography, still a cool vid!
same here lol
This is the best camera review video I've ever seen. Becca's personality is just awesome. Bravo!
I love the idea of this camera. Mostly bc I'm running around the city with a camera in my purse. I used to rock a7r but it was so big and clunky, i tried rx100m3 but I hated that I have to take out the viewfinder which takes so much time and recently I bought a6100 and I'm so happy with it. It's small enough to make a difference in a purse but its still apsc with similar feel of a "full size camera". I was considering Fuji xt100v but I decided that I want more lens options. Anyway what I'm trying to say it's that id buy a7c bc it's more compact then standard FF.
I love Becca's reviews. She brings so much personality to her reviews and and always enjoys herself in the process.
Always happy to see Becca. So passionate and upbeat! Wish Sony's lenses didn't cost a fortune.
Becca does so damn good with these camera reviews. Been looking to grab an a7siii to add to my wedding filmmaker kit, but I’m honestly thinking of adding this for now instead.
I loved getting to see the photos you took. It was probably my favourite part of any verge video
Becca videos give me life, such a good vibe on them
New goal in life: Love everything i do as much as Becca does
I mean yeah I would too if I was getting paid to play
Love the b roll footage, way to go with your support!
@Alix Diaconis the best days!
Becca you always makes me want to watch the verge vids! Always great content!!
So excited to saw you running around with your camera❤️
What difference does a part of an inch make in the camera body with a lens that is literally five times as long as the camera body?
Becca needs her own podcast and UA-cam channel, to get more content from her out there!
Let us just take a moment to appreciate all the photos that Becca took! She is one of the best!
Love the reviews from Becca! Keep up the excellent work!
Great review as always, Becca! I look forward to your content.
The sound is on point!
Love your reviews, they really stand out, Keep up the good work:)
Love you team Verge from India. Loved your Hero 9 review most.
Thank you so much for such awesome and informative stuffs.
I think this my upgrade. After nearly 8 years with my Canon 700D it's time to jump ship
eos r is pretty cheap now too though, personally switched from 70D to it and been a blast using my canon glass on it
still using the 700D for almost 3 years
for videography??? look at Sony a7Siii it's the future of Sony cameras with touch menu & improved IBIS (active stabilization)
@@mirrorlessny Lol I ain't spending £3799 on just a camera body 😂
I've really enjoyed your video Becca! I've been looking to upgrade from my aging Canon 7D Mk1 that I bought from 2012. Your video got me even more enthusiastic about upgrading to the A7C. Thank you for this review!
Dammit I must say I wasn't a fan of your videos for a while at first Becca but damn do I always look forward to your videos. Keep it up!
Just found you and immediately subscribed- very friendly and relatable disposition, thorough review and presented in a fun and non nerdy way, and above all you seem super chill and cool - Rock on!,
You are my favorite person in UA-cam.
Respect Becca🙏
was split between the a7c and a6600, this video really convinced me after hours of videos and research.
What a great spirit you have! You come off as someone I want to know and be around. That's nice right about now. Thanks for the entertainment with a smile. I really appreciated that. (And subbed.)
big question would u sell an a7iii to get this a7c to get the better auto focus, flip screen and no record limit? I like the size of my a6300, been using it for 5 years and a7iii over 2years. I'm thinking about upgrading to a cinema camera but my a7iii has done right by me, so just having an "a7iii speced camera" with no record limit seems like a worthy upgrade to me but are the trade offs worth the switch (small evf, lack of c buttons, no improvement in bit rate, 1 sd card slot) ?
Awesome video and review! great narrative and interesting until the end:)
Quick question does the Sony A7C have product showcase and or a built in ND filter?
I loved the way she flipped, flipped and then flipped the flippy screen.
it's so easy! how could I not??
-b
Aryan Roy all quick!
Rippin' vid, Becca!
Love Becca's reviews 😊
Any recommendations for alternatives to the kit lens? Something compact would be nice.
The Sony full frame and APSC lineup is very well defined and easy to understand. I can't say the same for the others, especially Panasonic's throwup of letters and numbers with multiple names and re-releases for each model in various regions, or Canon's complete randomness.
That display flip at 0:30 was 🔥
The sunset backlight was great!
Came back here from the ZV-E1 review. Becca don't miss.
The only bad thing about this video was the ad that came in unannounced. Otherwise it was really technical, yet accessible to someone who doesn't know a whole lot about cameras.
Great job!
A camera review using video and images from recent protests is pretty bold and I love it. Well done guys, well done.
Impressed in the first minute, good review.
love this video, and your laid back style. following.
Does anyone else with the A7C
notice a noise from inside the camera. I've noticed a small noise, almost like static or a fan, coming from inside my A7C. I wasn't sure if this was normal or a fault?
Does this camera have an unlimited time recording? I'm interested in a camera that does for the visual element of my podcast.
I’m so used to used to having the front scroll wheel on my a7rii but I have a a6300 and I guess I never realized it didn’t have the front wheel?? Lol
Exvellent info.. BTW with which camera this video is shot and what is the resolution of shoot
great video.
Is the Sony a7c camera suitable for recording long-term videos? For example, two hours of uninterrupted record?
Doesn't it heat up?
Do we need to rebalance a gimbal for the kit lens range 28-60 ?
Becca is great at her job. Always great reviews
How about the evf and the experience with taking photos in bright daylight
The EVF is hella bright and easy to use even in direct sunlight. When we shot the broll it was a really sunny day and I didn't have trouble seeing the articulating screen either.

A great practical review I thoroughly enjoyed.
Petition to have Becca host every Verge vid from now on (sorry Dieter and crew!)
I have sony a6600 for video low light 80 % at night am I need upgrade to a7c for video ?
Thx
Excellent video! Love the compactness
I reaaaaaaally like your videos, Becca! Greetings from Mexico! :)
Love your video and your enthusiasm of this camera. I love mine, too. Thanks.
It's hilarious to see that compact camera with a ginormous lens on it while you talk about how much you love the small size. I shoot my a7ii with a little Leica M mount lens and it's wonderful
Ok I got this camera paired with Sigma 24-70 picture quality is really nice I really want to love this camera but.... I have issues with blinking video is anyone else with the same issue? When I record video I noticed some black bards sometimes is anyone with the same issue?
The Sony 24-70mm f/2 on a7C looks so huge but it is isn't a very big zoom lens. Also the a9 and a9 II cameras were omitted at the start of the a7 series lineup. The a9 and a9 II have the a7 series body but with just a different name.
The a7C is the 13th full frame mirrorless camera by Sony. I hope it will be a lucky one.
In higher framerates, does the autofocus work? What about sound?
Great video, nice work!
nice and compact, is it worth it in 2022? price holding at $2k
I do not care about cameras but always like to the enthusiasm of Becca.
I don't really care about cameras, but Becca's videos are always dope.
I've had the Sony A7c for a while for photography and it's fallen more and more to my liking as time goes on, so I actually no longer use my Sony A9 and consider selling it.
The size is perfect for me and I love that the viewfinder puts in the side of the camera as I prefer that way of photographing. For the viewfinder I have bought an eyecup, and now the viewfinder has become really good to work with.
I absolutely love the Color Science, and now I often only photograph in jpg.
My only downside with the camera is that the LCD screen could well be more high resolution, but it is still possible to work with in most situations.
Regarding the smaller number of buttons and wheels on the camera compared to, for example, Sony A9, it is not a problem for me as I switched the buttons and wheels that are to the ones I use the most. I always use focus tracking, so I do not need a button / wheel to move focus around with, as I just lay the focus point with focus -tracking on the subject that should be in focus and then I can move the subject where I want in the viewfinder or on the screen. I think it's much faster that way too.
Many greetings
Jess
She is definitely good with her reviews but what a pleasing personality. Such a joy watch her do this...
Becca Please do more camera reviews... your style, is pretty awesome.. it stands out from the numerous review videos P.S. FX3 🤞
Where can i get that mask, good looking and looks comfortable
looks self-sewn. i'd google images "diy mask". or try etsy.
Thanks for the review, but I'm very happy with my Sony A6600 and various apsc lenses (the lens size is small, light and tailored to the small camera body. For me, to buy a same-size camera body but then have to attach large and bulky/heavy lenses defeats the purpose of the concept of small. I get your points though-innovation is wonderful to see and each iteration of previous technology helps us all; and thanks for the review!
you're so charming and competent !
Is it a good idea to replace a6000 series with this!! ?
....
Considering the full frame lens prices !!
Revisiting this video cause I want to buy a camera and I just noticed the “also a little ripper” tag and I agree 100%
Totally agree about the menu button. Really annoys me sometimes needing to reposition to hit the menu button on my A7iii and A7Riii and this looks even worse! Miss the location of it on my A6500.
Nice video 👌 How would you rate the A7 ii today cause I haven't the funds to go much higher than that?
need advice.. would you recommend a7c or fuji xt4 for music/concert photography?
BTW which camera are you guys using while shooting this video ? Seems like Fuji or Panasonic ( Or any Non-Sony/Canon Cam) cause video clips in which sun is behind the person , camera tends to focus breath !!
Love this review! Golden hour video ❤️❤️❤️
What would you say is an overall best lens for this A7C ?
Nice video!!! I have a question, cuz I have sony a7c, and also it comes with sony 28-60mm lens, I have no idea what size of nd filter I should choose. Do you know that? Thank you
40.5 filter size
The screen rotation doesn’t work properly for front view when you change the angle to upper it will go back to normal and front looks upside down why so ???
I come from 8 years of using the Sony NEX5N and chose not to get this because it was hamstrung - that old menu system, single card slot and ridiculous EVF are the main reasons to go with the Lumix S5. That fast Sony AF is not my biggest need.
Great review. Curious - what camera/lens was it shot on?
i can see the ‘menu’ button issue being a finger workout. gorgeous little piece of kit tho
you are not wrong, bud!

Thanks Becca! What's that small cross body black bag you're rocking at 3:22?
Wondering about this as well.
Pretty sure that’s a Moment Camera Sling!
