    I love my A7C when it came out and I use it more than my A7R IV then and more than my A7R V now. The small size is perfect for my small hand, fits my small camera bag and travel light in my small carry on. So, this camera is for me. The only thing I’m disappointed is no screen like A7R V.

    This may be the best done review of this camera I’ve seen. And I have watched quite a few. I like that you spent a good portion of it on stills. I currently use an A7SII (for its lowlight capability) and an A7C. I am attracted to this new version because of the improved autofocus. I shoot bands in badly lit bars, and find the face-detection on the A7C struggles in weird lighting. Thanks again for this excellent video.

    Great review! Was neat to see the cinematic footage.
    For the focus point issue you had, that is resolved by using real time af tracking with the point focus. This allows you to always keep the focusing square in the center. You half press on your subject and reframe, the real time af will follow your subject to where you want them to be in the frame.

    Regarding moving the focus point, I have my A7C set up to allow me to use the screen as a touchpad when I'm using the EVF. I put the A7C up to my face, and with my thumb sliding around the screen I can use it like a joystick. Works pretty well, but I find myself doing the old "focus and recompose" more often than not.
    Thank you for the review!

      Came to the comment to ask this. Is it no longer a feature in this one?
      As far as I know, you can use the touchscreen all recent Sony camera to set the focus point when it's up to your face.

    • @edshotsdotcodotuk

      I use either this method for selecting AF or more often as my screen is flipped inwards I use the central point only and focus tracking to recompose. Most other reviews have mentioned this recompose option. You don't miss the shot you want if you're anticipating the action in front of you either.

    I have had one for a few months now-first time getting into full frame Sony, since what brought me over (from FX Nikon bodies for years) was the APS-C lineup, and how Sony seems to be the only one of the big three who's kept it moving forward.
    But I still can't view the RAW photos from it in my Apple Photos library! I use PS/Lightroom for some things, but like to keep my entire archive in Photos (which I have backed up on two local storage devices, plus the iCloud Photos backup). It is painful because the stills this camera puts out (and the quality of the AF) is on another level compared to the a6600s I've been using.
    I had gotten close to moving over to a Nikon Zf for fun shooting... but the 7C II is nearly as good at nailing the colors and 'feel' I got with my last Nikon body, plus the dynamic range going back to FF is huge for me.
    It made me appreciate stills again, though I still whip out my ancient D700 when I really want to get into stills.

    Switched to the A7C after trying the X100V. My walk around setup is with the APSC pancake 20MM, and I love that I can fit it in a tiny belt bag.
    Being able to use the bigger FF glass is nice, but I've actually liked my daily setup so much that I rarely swap it out. I even sold off my previous main camera the X-T4 and haven't looked back.

    Really nice video! Would be interesting to have your opinion on the 28-60mm kit lens🤔 I know that such a camera highly profits from better lenses as the one you used, but then it somewhat misses the point of compact/light. Was thinking about a camera compact/light enough to take it with me on trailruns/bike rides/.. So would be great to hear your opinion on that and eventual lens suggestions :)
    Greetings from Switzerland

    • @brandonylee
      @brandonylee  Місяць тому +1

      I generally think kit lenses aren't worth it unless you really want the range, they also can be a good tool for learning what focal lengths you like. If I started over, I'd probably pick-up a 35mm or 50mm, and just see what I end up preferring. Then build out my kit or save up for a zoom that will last longer than a kit lens.

    I'm an amateur, but shoot with two A7R5 cameras. Frankly the A7CR is enough camera for me. But, I do like having a larger grip and a better evf. I shot for years with just one card slot and to me it's not an issue. Although I do like having one card slot for jpgs and the other slot for raw files. But, I plan to use the A7CR as a travel camera for now.

    I'm not sure I understand the complaint about moving the focus point with the joystick, im new to the A7c2, but you can always touch the screen to focus, and you can even change what touching the screen does on the camera. It can auto expose, continuous track, focus point, ect... I do wish the resolution on the view finder was better, a bit more similar to the a7rV. Great review!

      Yes...this Camera that I also have is for the new breed of photography... the one that take pics with a phone and know how to use a smart phone...that goes over many of these reviewers heads really but you brought up an important point ..we "touch the screen"... see the old guard used buttons and dials and wheels... this is for the next gen social media photographer /Video content creator..which is just as legit as taking "wedding Pics" btw...and they make some pretty good money doing it...
      New Gen...new breed..and Sony knows it..and is right there to profit off it ..
      Btw its a great little camera ..that did what??...replaced my crappy smart phone pics and video.. oh and I have thr S24Ultra ...
      The pics and video are really second to none..sure you can get the ubber high 61mp CR... but then thats a whole nother trade off as well...
      Sometimes its funny to see reviews that just dont quite get the "whole picture" 😉

    The 2 reasons to buy this over the full size bodies is size and price, this seems to be priced against the A7V rather than the IV which doesn’t bode well for the price of that when it’s released.

    If I get A7RV as my first camera with 70-200mm F4 macro G ii and just use standard Yellow iPhone 15 to shoot closer things with its 13mm, 26mm and 52mm, is it good setup if I'm just hobbyist with good understanding of photography and compositions who want to enjoy shooting and use for personal products shots too? I choose Sony over other brands because they have the lens with unique feature I want like super tele with macro ability that I mentioned, power zoom lens and standard zoom that start from ultra wide 20mm and I love Sony as a brand too. I choose this over A7CII/R because of its good EVF and 4 ways tilt screen and smaller body don't give benefit with big lens other than weight saving and people still notice you have a camera, A7RV is like just as small but with a big EVF attached, the silver top of A7C is nice looking tho. Should I get another lens right away, I have the 16-35mm F4 PZ G in mind, or I should get something faster and prime that still light weight on gimbal? I don't really care for bokeh, that tele will able to do it too if I want to, I like my photos and videos to have story and creativity and not blur out the contexts.
    Also, have you wonder why put so many effort just to take photos and videos and not just use phone camera to record here and there if it's not your primary work and also your content not all will get pass down and value later?
    And what camera setup you bring in everyday life and travel, some people use less bulky and performance camera for their own life but use fancy gears for clients and travel, why, isn't everyday life is most parts of our life and important too?

    although I could see why, Sony being the giant that it is, the A7IV would be considered to be the best hybrid on the market, I think that there is a very firece competition in that price/size bracket and that this statement is not really true in 2023 (might have been when it was released, but it's been a while...). There is other cameras that can do better (imho)
    First, the R6 mk II, which is the natural competitor to the A7IV. It's quite simple, every spec in that camera (save for resolution) is better in the Canon than it is in the Sony... for the same price of 2.5k USD.
    Second is the Lumix S5II which, if it doesn't have the same super fast 24MP sensor as the Canon (it relies on an older 24MP sensor that is just as slow as the A7IV's sensor), it achieves to be significantly better for video work, having good autofocus, active cooling (without making the camera larger which is nice) and better video modes like 6K open gate video, better video assist tools and interface... and a significantly lower price of 2k USD, without compromising the stills either (lossless compressed RAW is 7fps on both cameras, you have to go to lossy compressed or JPEG to do 10 fps on the A7IV while if the S5II can't get a faster mechanical shutter, it can shoot 30fps electronic shutter. A wash in my opinion)
    And if you could argue that the Sony had better lens selection than the Canon (though the argument of EF glass exists), the Lumix has access to a plethora of video optimized Panasonic glass as well as photography optimized Sigma and Leica glass. Again, this is a wash to me.
    Honestly, being lighter and smaller, the A7CII makes a more compelling product compared to the A7IV, considering the competition it's facing the moment the camera body starts to get bigger.
    And that's not even comparing with APS-C/MFT cameras on the market that sit in a similar price range like the X-H2S, X-H2, GH6 or OM-1
    I'd really love if camera reviewers stopped comparing cameras to other cameras from the same brands, as ultimately that just serves one brand and that does not help one understand the camera market further, only one side of it.

      Your argument, which is good, will be rendered moot if and when Sony comes out with the A75. If the A74 is that popular, the next vastly improved model will blow people away. All the goodies of the A74 with the spirit, and chips, of the A7R5 will elevate this camera into the galaxy center, way beyond the stratosphere. Sony did it with the a6700, flying past the already excellent a6600.

    • @matthieuzglurg6015
      @matthieuzglurg6015 10 місяців тому

      @@bondgabebond4907 I don't know where you're going with that A6700 nonsense.
      The A6700 is a good camera, but I would argue that the Canon R7 is a more pro-ready package with overall better specs (save for 4K120), and the Fujifilm X-S20 is basically the same thing, just cheaper with very few differences. The A6600 on the other hand, was probably the worst value for a crop sensor camera. Expensive (almost as expensive as a Fuji X-T4), with IBIS that does not work as well as the competitors, and a much slower sensor, burst rate, ergonomic compromises (tiny viewfinder and no front dial), limited to 1x UHS 1 card slot when the competition was already pushing dual UHS 2 cards in a similar price bracket, not mentionning the limitation to 10fps shooting when other cameras were pushing 30. The A6600 was decent. Nowhere near "excellent". Only thing that was, was the autofocus, which most brands have caught up to now.
      Sony has been playing a game of catch-up ever since the R6 was released. A7IV was released to compete with that, only for the R6II to drop the following year, being better in every way.
      I think you might have a case of Sony fanboyism and lack of objectiveness.

    • @matthieuzglurg6015
      @matthieuzglurg6015 10 місяців тому

      @@DGCNYO nah they don't. Only an fanboy would get past the super anti-consumer practise of banning 3rd party glass on the RF mount.
      That being said, EF glass can work well, until Canon decides to reduce the amount of moronic decisions in the coming year.

      The A74 has been superseded by the A7CII and superseded badly. The A74 is now a has-been, almost up to the specs, yet falling farther and further behind. A new generation of A7R5 siblings has hit the market. You will be disappointed with the A74. Just in the focus mode, you will be sadly disappointed. My a6700 is far better and has better processors than the A74.

      @bondgabebond4907 a74 has a few things going for it that i like that were highlighted by this video. I was excited to hear about the a7c2, but the things that it improved upon, while cool, don't negate the several things i like about the 4. The 4 would be a big improvement over my a7iii which I've had several years now. That replaced a77 M1 and 2...i don't need a7r series, but I'd like a bump in resolution and the new color profiles plus the bigger grip and dual cards, much better viewfinder and joystick... I'm sure I'll like it fine.

    Sony’s line up did become confusing.
    I shoot as a hobby for 4 years with my a6300 and wanted to upgrade so i can earn some buck on the side (and i struggled with Low light every now and then). But now there is this camera and a7 iv. This camera seems to be the same and then some compared to A7iv. The only true difference is the size wich is a plus, and dual cards, which I never had. All videos are telling me this is the reason not to use it as a pro camera.. but only because of the cards??

    What do you recommend for a beginner videographer for content creation? ZVE10? ZVE1? A7C-II? A6700??

    • @edshotsdotcodotuk
      @edshotsdotcodotuk 10 місяців тому +1

      My 2 cents. The ZVE10, Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 and Sony 11mm 1.8 with a good wireless mic kit would keep up with almost anything you could want. I took that kit (with the Samyang 75mm 1.8) to Europe travelling for two months and it was only lacking a longer zoom lens. Autofocus kept up with almost everything. Used it for pro shoots back home too. And very handy that it becomes a webcam with just a cable. No extra software needed now. The other cameras are larger with larger lenses, restricting your potential to just take it with you everywhere. Also the higher cost of everything when this setup would still give you amazing results.
