0:32 one of the best photos Chris have ever composed
Right?😂 it's an incredible photo and he shows it so casually
thank you both for the many great reviews over the last decade , top class
The touch focus does not have lag in reality. It starts working the instant you tap the screen, the lag is the lens focusing.
The box displays in the moved position once focus is obtained.
There are also two touch focus modes on the rear screen. Normal and with tracking.
Track pad function while you use the evf is totally different and it too is quick. Some have mistakenly said it is slow because they don't use it correctly.
It has a "sticky" function once you focus. To move quickly you just have to lift the finger and hop to where you and to go.
Once you develop muscle memory for this it is faster than a joystick.
I too at first thought it was funky until I understood how it works.
I can never get over your video quality and than the detail in the review its like you created the camera yourself :)
Last but not least this review of a7C. I remember in 2010 when you were one of the firsts to review the innovative Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5, the first mirrorless cameras by Sony. I saw that video then and it was the main reason I entered the e-mount world. Something I have never regret. Since then the duo has changed channel and is not as fast as before.
This is the review I’ve been waiting for
As usual guys great presentation as always. Thanks to you both just purchased an A7C..
This guys presentation style is absolutely on point. Awesome review!
Nearly didn’t watch this because I thought Gerald already told me everything I needed to know about this camera, but I’m glad I did... YOU GUYS ALWAYS BRING IT!
Nicely articulated feeling of doom and gloom in the beginning. That's why I like these guys - they don't do robotic specs reviews, but add a human touch.
That kit lens looks amazing! Looks like a really fun grab-and-go setup. I have no problem with bigger bodies and lenses but I think many people underestimate the pure joy of such a light, compact setup. Reminds me of when I first got the A6000 with 16-50 - such a great experience! Thanks for making reviews I can actually trust. Cheers
Less intrusive too for street photography
Thank you, brother! Very informative.
Ooof. The sadness intro was right in the feels. That was... different.
Hey, loved the humour at the start of the video! As for the camera, it's not for me, I already have the A7III. But I'm disappointed that Sony didn't put in the new menu system. Let's hope they put that right with the A7IV (and don't raise the price too much!)
Another spot-on review from "the guys", with pluses & minuses and great alternative suggestions. Don't know why, but their reviews are the only ones convincing me to be totally unbiased, even when I do not fully agree. All others seem to have some sort of well [or not so well] hidden agenda. Cheers!
Great review. Sums up the best and worst very well and a great guide for camera buyers. Meets its objective, no doubt. Thanks!
When I know I am going to hate the camera, when Chris compliments the grip.
Why.
EAR-itating! Love seeing you guys on screen!
Man, you look devastated. Cheer up, bro! I know it's tough in this pandemic situation. But we're not used to see you like this. I mean you are one of the most joyful person on UA-cam. ❤
No one cares dawg
Thanks for that great, informative, CHEERFUL Video Jordan and Chris!
As a A7 III Videographer I don't understand your "complaints" about the Autofocus system of the camera - in my experience (soon 19 months) and running the latest Firmware the Autofocus is nothing but great, it works really well - and I know, as I often also stand in front of the camera! So I am wondering if you're running an old Firmware on your A7 III?
excellent review - also love the poetic moment about the flowers!
Still waiting for the long ago-promised comparative reviews of the various photo editing programs (Lightroom, Capture One, Luminar, etc.). Using these programs is a part of many (most?) photographers' workflow, and I would seriously *love* to hear your take on their various strengths and weaknesses. I *always* look forward to seeing your video reviews, and have followed you guys from early on in the Camera Store days. I believe Jordan indicated a few years back that you were going to do this, but it was, admittedly, around the transition time from Camera Store to DPReview, so it might have gotten lost in the shuffle. But I think many DPReview TV watchers would appreciate the special Alberta wit applied to photo editing programs. Thanks for considering this suggestion, and keep up the great work!
I am a relatively new photographer but I absolutely love Iuminar4.
I was dreaming of such a camera for YEARs. For me it came too late, as I'm now happy with a Z6. However it's refreshing and exciting to see a rangefinder style camera with all the SONY tech inside. But it's a shame that they have not implemented the new menue system. Many thanks for the, as always, informative and entertaining review. You guys rock!!!!!
I saw here in Romania the Z6 for 1400 euros and the Sony 7C for 2000. What do you think its better on Nikon? I know Sony is more expansive but the SD card are cheaper and the lenses too because you can buy a lot of third comapnies.
@@travelerexperience84 I sold my A73 due to the handling (ergos) that was a pain with larger lenses. And the colors in A73 is not good, sure you can fix most of it in post if you shoot raw, but spending so much time to get rid of that strange green and magenta cast in the images, isn't worth the time in my opinion. I bought the z6 and I love it. Sure the autofocus is a tad slower, but there is so much more to a camera than that.
When it comes to lenses Nikon has released a respectful amount of lenses, given the system is only 2 years old. And all of the z lenses are incredible good. And if you want you can use all of the af-s lenses from previous mount + third party lenses. Then there is the fringer adapter where you can adapt even Canon EF or Sony lenses with good result.
Then there is the video side of things. The stabilizer in A7III isn't nearly as good as in the z6. Even used with ois lenses the A7III hardly beat z6 with non stabilized a lens.
Many may have other opinions, but that's my reflection of using the z6 for a month.
bjurra 🙏🏼
@@bjure8111 the C has new colour. Most people say its pretty good now. Ive even seen canon people say this.
@@markshirley01 let's hope so, it would be a step on the right direction. Let's also hope that they increase the grip a bit and make the ergos better for upcoming A7 models. Then I will be back in the Sony stable again 😊
Great review. Love the humor
Nice review chaps! I jumped from M43 to Sony and was going to just get a second hand A7Riii, but on seeing this I started out with the A7C. My only mistake was not getting the 28-60mm kit lens. I've got one second hand now and love it. I also have the A7Riii too. It's a great combination - same battery. The A7C is my take everywhere camera and the A7Riii for more Pro stuff!
"That's asking a lot of anyone's thumb" hahaha
Yep, can't give a thumb up because of the wheels and the viewfinder. What a shame.
You guys are such stars of the camera today.
You guys are so fun. Love your channel so much."Sharp!"😆
Great review 👌
I just wanted to stop by and say that I absolutely love your reviews. You guys have perfected the review like phlearn has perfected the tutorial in the photo world, for me at least. Thank you for all the hard work!
I'm glad you did a review on this camera. Can you guys do a Sony a7c and the Fuji XT-4?
10:41 looking closely at the bench, someone has expressed what we all have been going through in the past 6 months
Haha I saw this as well
Fuck COVID
Great review, thanks guys
Thanks for the subtle humour. Enjoyed a lot! Hey Chris, did you find an option to turn off the electronic curtain?
Great review, thanks!
Amazing shots, Chris. You can just about taste sadness in that man's eyes at 1:44.
Man, that lens is sharp. Pretty impressive for a kit lens
Nope, weak corner, even stopped down
It produces beautiful colours too!
Good review covers lots of detail that should appeal to various types of photographer
Thank you fir review. Nice and light full frame camera.
Nice small camera presumably loads of cash too😲 love your vids guys as I have said before your both mad but in a fun way Merry Christmas to you both and your families. Love from cold England👍🍺🍺🎄
Nice and helpful video, TY. What about rolling shutter on this camera?
Great video! I have to upgrade from a Nikon D7200 as it sucks for video. Although I am using Sigma ART (18-35 & 50mm) for glass. I had my eyes set on the Panasonic S5, but I think the auto focus of this camera is best for me. I do a lot of self shot product demos/reviews and you can imagine my frustration with my Nikon D7200, I end up using a webcam with less frustration. I would probably use this Sony as a high end webcam for my live interview shows as well. Thanks for this vid, a fellow Canadian as well (Ontario). Cheers!
Thanks chris,follow you for years
You guys are great. One of the best hires DPReview has ever done (and by extension, Amazon). Keep up the great work!
Great video just ordered my A7C
Thanks Guys for this review
Nice work guys. Thanks. After another low light camera fail at Thanksgiving, thinking dedicated camera again.
Hi, how do I get the camera to autofocus when I move the frame in manual shooting mode (not video) without pressing the af button? It does it sometimes but very slowly and sometimes doesn't change focus at all when I swap subects. Thank you x
Thanks dpreview team for this review, I know now that I still have to look for a A7iii - without considering the A7C or waiting for a A7 iv - since I really need a decent viewfinder to switch from my Canon Eos 6D to a mirrorless full-frame :)
Nice Review and comparison
*Most depressing beginning in a camera review ever...so depressing that I loved it!
Really wonderful intro!
Nice review. One thing most reviewers forget to test is how the EVF works for people who wear glasses (not all can have contact lenses). Maybe you could get a pair of glasses without correction to test with?
Just dropped the same reply before I saw this one
I had written this thing off entirely but after watching this and hearing a less spec oriented perspective, I'm realizing I was probably too harsh after having has expectations of ANYTHING be inflated by the R5, R6, and a7S3. Good video!
Well done review.
Thank you very much for all the informations.
Thank you for the quality information you provide. Need your help in my deliberation on choosing an additional camera body for my lumix g9. Looking for the short term and debating between the sony a7c and fuji xs10
Nice review. Please what camera/kit did you use in shooting this video?
Adorable blue vespa for the win 😂 Great review as always. The A7C just might become my first FF mirrorless camera 👍🏼
Nice comparison! I'm an a7iii user and recently have been missing the candybar design of the a6000.
A7c autofocus problem (af-c area focus "wide"): ua-cam.com/video/V9SxFrxFN_c/v-deo.html
No problem on the Sony 6500 with the same settings and the same lens.
I doubt a6500 af is better, different cameras are likely to behave differently in same situations.
you made me love this camera man
Oh cool, you're from Calgary too?! subscribed! 🤣 Thanks for the review, been looking for a new camera to film my skit comedies on, thinking this might be a winner!
Not a bad choice at all!
Jordan @ DPReview TV
I totally agree with your gripes with the EVF. Was a big turn off from the smaller-bodied Sonys.
Such a shame. Can't give a thumb up for that reason and the no front-dial.
Does the Kit Lens have it's own OIS?? If it does, it can help further with stabilization. Though it won't be buttery smooth.
Thanks excellent information
I like the stiling of the Sony A7c very much with the EVF out to the very side of the camera, I hope that all future A7/A9 Sony cameras will have this design, but with larger EVF in higher resolution.
Interested to see the optical performance comparison of the Sony 28-60 vs Tamron 28-75 and Tamron 28-200.
I have an A7rIV, and I went for the Fuji x100v as my walk-around camera in early 2020. I just picked up the Sony A7C; I think I like it better since I have some compact primes. The jury is still out. I do love the Fuji x100v.
great video.
Is the Sony a7c camera suitable for recording long-term videos? For example, two hours of uninterrupted record?
Doesn't it heat up?
Basically the NEX7 FF successor I was waiting for back in 2012 :)
I'm so glad they made a vlogging lens to vlog my nose. Great job Sony.
Mad English TV what is “vlogging😐

If you were comparing the A7c and the Fuji XT-4 for street photography (understanding we’re talking full frame sensor and aps-c sensor). (I have the Nikon Z6II which I love) which one would you choose and why?
Lovely review, as always. I would go for fast manual primes from Voigtlander, like 40/1,4 Nokton SC. / Ulf
Hi!! Can anybody tell me which Mic they use to record their audio? Must be a LAV mic!
Clnice video , what is your shoulder camera bag?
thanks for this nice video, did u use Sony a7C camera to shoot this episode of video ? thanks
Excellent intro - and we agree on all counts. But even when it's sunny, it's not.
Just a question with your shots, why is your ISO so high ? Was it really that dark on that day ?
That scene at 4:12 is just gorgeous. Those Panasonic colours are (amongst?) the best.
If the lens is sharper than the other Sony 28-70 kit lens, as DPReview seems to imply. this camera is amazing and will be great for the average user who is looking for general/travel FF camera but doesn't want much size. Let's wait for more detailed lens reviews.
i think for me i’ll still go with the a7iii for the bigger body and because i don’t really require super fast AF i shoot completely manual unless i’m doing portraits and the a7iii will be more than enough for my needs
The a7c is a good camera! I also have that camera. I'm excited because it's so light and compact. This video was very interesting! I will come to play again. With love from Japan :)
this is my dream camera with some fixable downsides since the technology is already there, sony has it. I wish it had a built-in flash like sony a6000. Also adding a more modern sensor would be cool with pixel shift technology like the a7riii. And more capable evf. That would be just perfect. Still love this one, I hope they keep improving this concept of rangefinder style ff mirrorless
A7c = C for cheerful, love it. Thanks for the review.
a7c = a7 circumcised
Thanks for the review. How much better do you feel is the tracking ability compared to a7iii?
The A7iii doesn’t have the lock on tracking, so as far as AF performance it’s better.
Hey with what camera you shoot this episode? It looks very nice and sharp!
I’m coming from a a7 mark 1. Should I wait for the mark iv? Main thing is photography and creating videocourses. Please advice! 🙏🏼
The form factor of that camera is perfect! I never use the viewfinder in my A7iii anyways. I'd love to see in a future version two card slots but probably won't happen due to size. The A7Cii could definitely tempt me away from the larger bodies.
Interesting vi as always Chris’s and Jordan. Sony prices are high. Nice quality all round small camera. But cheaper on market but maybe without the quality. Sony I wonder why as you said they have gone back to old style of menus. Strange that case of one step forward and one back again. Ps your both still nuts but I always enjoy your reviews keep it up. 😉
Hey guys I've watched a lot of your reviews and have gathered a lot of great info! I love your reviews especially the best and worst of 2020 that you guys got drunk in, us Aussies love getting drunk!😁🤪 I am a bit confused as I am a total noob and had pretty much decided to go buy the A7C! I just watched a review on the A7C by Tony and Chelsea and the auto focus failed a fair bit, is this a real issue for me as I will be filming a lot of fishing videos?? Thanks guys!!👍👍
filming fishing videos? A7SIII should do a great job, I had some hard time with AF while filming fast flying rc airplanes but otherwise AF is among the best, do you need the camera to be waterproof?
No it doesn't need to be waterproof, well i hope it doesn't anyway!😉 I will be definitely trying to keep it out of the water but it might get splashed a little bit!
Been shooting with apsc for yearssss. I think this might be my stepping stone to full frame
perfect time to upgrade to FF, might not even feel the difference in weight, but many FF lenses are heavier than apsc
Out of the half dozen reviews on the new Sony a7C I've watched so far, I like your take the best, especially the closing thoughts on who this particlar camera may appeal to. I have an a7riii and a smaller street rig that let's me make use my existing lenses sounds ideal. The a7C immediatlly reminded me a lot of the Panasonic GX series too and it's good to hear someone else confirm that -- my current 'small' camera is a GX9 and I've been on the fence about upgrading it because I love the accmpanying Leica lenses so much. The a7C may be a strong contender now.
P.S. If I had to critique anything about your latest videos it would be this -- you'd both benefit from upgading your dad-fashion style. No offense meant, most of us men of a certain struggle in that department. Cheers.
Well made informative
Love that Sony is making the LCD thingi rotatable. 😍
Im actually really interested in the Auto focus
Video from DPR when Real Time Tracking premiered:
ua-cam.com/video/SG37PzFSyKU/v-deo.html
Come on dude, its a Sony. AF is probably going to be good
Yes its the AF that is the star feature for me. Plus Im interested in the Catalyst Browse software compatibility.
@@markshirley01 it seems that all new high end Sony cameras like a7c a7Riv a6600 a7siii a9ii have similar strong autofocus system
Me too!
1:18 is that "Three blind men and an elephant" reference 😂
Does the viewfinder let you add an eye up like the A6000? I don't think this will kill Sony A6600. This camera is $600 more expensive (plus tax). Also, full frame lenses are more expensive.
I heard that when you attach an oss lens to this camera the ibis turns off insead of complementing the optical stabilization. Is this true for both photos and videos?
with the autofocus tracking, what happens when to take a picture, does it keep tracking?
