Thanks for your unbiased, truthful claims about Cuba. One side of it is beautiful and vibrant and the other is miserable and awful. I can discuss the organic agriculture and art, among a few other fabulous things. But when you get a deeper observation into the island, it's easy to notice the poverty, filth, and despair. Today I tried to make this clear to a radical leftist on Facebook, but she didn't get it. I admitted to her that although Cuba has some wonderful aspects and is better at a few things than we are, it is still a dictatorial communist ghetto. She denied it.
I'm Cuban born and raised! And I'm glad you got it! My county is beautiful yes! But like you said, once you see it?! It breaks your heart! I go and visit and it still breaks my hurt! I'm happy and blessed to have moved to Miami! But if you ever wanna hear raw stories go to Miami and talk to Cubans there! You'll get good straight hearted stories just like mines..let me know if your interested and I'll share, be blessed🙏
You are right, you saw the real Cuba, not the tourist version. Since 99% of all businesses are owned or controlled by the Cuban military. Even that Air B&B room, you pay $30. and the host must pay the government over (over 70%) $20+. in taxes. So you are in fact enriching the Military so they can keep Cubans under their control. Regardless of how many drinks you buy, how many souvenirs you purchase, that Cuban worker that sold them to you only gets gets paid about $23-$25.. a month. He has to eat and feed his family with that $25. a month, so he cant afford to buy the drinks or souvenirs he sells. Cuba and Cubans are beautiful, but they are not free, they are slaves in 2017 and oppressed 24/7.
I am a cuban living in us. Thank you so much for your views, you really took your time to know my complicated country in 6 days. Thank you for your kind words and your empathy, it's shows your big heart! God bless.
I thank you for making this video from the bottom of my heart. A lot of people don't understand what Cuba is about. There is a front for tourists to see and leave their money there to fund the regime so they can stay in power. There is the other Cuba. Where the regime keeps its people poor and hungry and hopeless and living in fear. So tourists are helping fund the regime keeping cubans in dispair. And there are alot of tourists. So alot of money is coming in and it is certainly not going to the people. Healthcare for the people is not the same as healthcare for the medical tourist by far. There is a government snitch in every block or building. People have to resort to prostitution to survive and help their kids survive. There is a lot of pain, need, fear, and dispair there it has the muted tones of a hopeless people yet you can see it in their eyes, their hunched shoulders and downturned heads when they are allowed to ponder their fate in solitude. Also you would have to understand who is NOT there. Huge chunks of the population are missing. Some have emmigrated, others jailed, others killed and others disappeared and cannot be found. Some lay in massive graves in undisclosed places in the middle of nowhere and others in the bottom of the sea which they hoped would allow them to escape tyranny but instead swallowed them whole. Cubans are resilient and have a lot of inner strength and heart. Their souls have learned to smile while their bodies are in need. Someday. Somehow we will be free.
Thank you for being honest. These are things I already knew because I knew allot of Cubans. Sweet people, hard workers, sad living conditions. And you're absolutely right, it's important that visitors are prepared.
PERDON PERO YO CONOZCO CUBANOS QUE VIVEN EN CUBA Y DEFIENDEN SU PATRIA Y LOS GUSANOS QUE TRAICIONAN A SU PROPIA PATRIA, GENERALMENTE ESTOS VIVEN EN YANKILANDIA !
I don’t understand the like to dislike ratio because this video was 100% accurate. People don’t realize the oppression Cubans face. There is a reason Miami is full of Cubans, they had to escape. People are barely able to live because of how much the regime take m
I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing. But I would like to point some things out. In America you have the well known city Oakland California, expensive homes in the hills and Piedmont area. Then you have West Oakland were it's war zone, bullets flying at night, people living in squander, crime and poverty etc. I challenge you to look at what America looks like? Is it East Chicago, Detroit, Oakland were there are homicides everyday? Hey how about this, I live in Siicon Valley and the homeless problem is horrible, people living in under bridges and sides of the freeway. You should do your homework about the USA there enough poverty and heartbreak in the USA to talk about so why don't you start there. And its' funny how most people are ignorant about the reality of living in many parts of the USA. I am social Anthropologist and Child Protection Services Investigator so I have seen it all. There's people here that live in houses with no heat, electricity, have no food for their children. And I guarantee you have more of chance to get killed, raped and robbed in the USA than Cuba. Yes there's poverty. No surprise there.
I read the same thing about crime in Cuba. It came directly from the Havana Times which is a State Run media outlet and has been for the past five decades. Just on a side note, the QHA Crimean News Agency was also reporting peace in the Ukraine four years ago.
“Thank your Democrat leaders who are pushing for socialism” Found the idiot who knows nothing about socialism or the left and thinks liberals are leftists 🤣
First of all, I appreciate the effort you put in this video to share your experience on how you perceived Cuba. I would like to inform you on different aspects of the country though, it is in fact true that the average Cuban earns around 20-30 dollars a month. The only thing a lot of people forget is the fact that Cuba has 1. Free education 2. Free healthcare 3. Free houses to live in, not to forget the food they get are not expensive and the bill that you have to pay for electricity, gas and water is negligible + their currency system cannot be compared to other countries. You could say "But a lot of houses they live in are really shitty" but you have to understand that Cuba is Latin American country that despite the US embargo is still standing to this day, you could say not so well, but hey look as a sole communist country it's really hard to get around and yes not all the houses are intact, it's also partially because the governement doesn't have any money to renovate those buildings. (They have to invest in a lot of other things, for example: for a Latin American country, their environmental issues get handled really well in comparison to other countries around Cuba). Not to forget, Cuba largely depends on sugar cane production, their country can't produce that much, so that also makes it harder to make money. But I can say this, not all, but the majority of the people have a better standard of living than before the Batista regime. I don't know if you've ever been to favela's in Brazil or poor neighboorhoods in Mexico (Poor neighboorhoods in almost any latin american country) I can assure you that their standards of living certainly isn't better than that of Cuban people + I don't think they get the advantages Cubans are enjoying. (See above) I'm certainly not trying to say that Cuba is a perfect country certainly not, but when you say things, you have to be critical for why the things are how they are. (Think for yourself, don't believe everything the media throws at you, do research) and do not compare your standards of living (I'm guessing a mid class citizen of the United States) with that of Cuba's. And just for the record: Cubans have an average lifespan of 79,55, which is, if I'm not mistaking around the same as a US citizen. Anyhows, this isn't a rant on how bad your video is. (I like that you want to share your thoughts with the world) But a lot of people just have to think things a little bit more through before passing judgment on certain things. ;) This is just information that I wanted to share with you and other people, to not be so pessimistic about Cuba as a country.
It is SO important that you took the time to write all this. I was thinking exactly the same while seeing the video but would never have the ability to put it into words like you did. Basically, what she is doing is ethnocentrism. That is, looking and judging other culture from your own standards. But well, probably the audience target here are people from her same culture, and could benefit from her advises and not get... "shocked" by seeing a man sitting outside of his house. I live in a country where she probably would land and spend those seven days and not be worried about poverty. I live in Mexico, a country also asphyxiated and kicked by the US, but capitalist. And Mexico is one of the countries with the most contrasting differences in economical abundance in the world: a country where 43.9%% [55.7 million] of the population live under poverty line, where 78.7 percent of the national wealth is held by the richest 10% of the population. Now, that is my usual reality of contrast. I will proceed about Cuba: What I saw: Cuban people actually going to concerts, restaurants, galleries, eating out, having drinks, going to dance in fancy places. Any Cuban I met in the streets or the regular encounters, could afford going to places and have leisure time. In Mexico, you only see white and privileged Mexicans doing this stuff. Kids running, playing and walking alone in the streets, super well dressed and fed. HAPPY. Fearless. They are sacred. Women walking ALONE, completely alone, in the streets, at late night hours. Wearing skirts, shorts, etc. To the women reading this, tell me a single country where you, as a woman, have felt safe doing that as of 2022. Ignorance of guns. Almost zero cubans have ever seen a fire arm. Non-existence of kidnapping. Nor terrorism. Nor psycho-led massacres in schools or malls. Almost none violent crime (there is pickpocketing). Rape and abuse is basically unheard of. Care for the environment. Cuba’s been ranked the world’s most sustainable country in 2020. By 2006 Cuba was the only nation in the world that met the WWF’s definition of sustainable development. Proudness and confidence in what you are and can do, no shame in your identity (this may sound vague but it's so important). Zero body shaming or constant propaganda about how your body should look. I could go on forever and I haven't even touched the health part. Of course I won't say Cuba is good economically at this moment, it is absolutely not, specially after Covid crisis, but let's not forget from where we judge. There are some Cubans that would indeed desire to have a screen with Netflix in every room, and a car for every family member, and 100 dresses and 50 pairs of shoes, but it's higher the number of those that would never change that for what they have "conquered" (that's how I have heard them saying it) as a nation, and they are determined to stick with the country and its people, until things are a bit more prosperous. Together, sharing and caring. Tell me where you'd find that.
I just came back from Cuba last week. I'm Indonesian and living in Jakarta. So me and my husband traveled directly from Jakarta to Havana. We stayed in Cuba for 8 days. Your comments are exactly how I feel! OMG. I'm now thinking that I have to make video about how I feel like this, but in Indonesian. Because many Indonesian have different point of view of Cuba. They wanted to go just because they thought it's exotic, and luxury with the classic cars and all those lovely pictures in social media. Yes part of the luxury might be true, but it stays in 1950s. As for me, before I left, I already did some research. I knew people there still living in difficulties including limited supply of clothing, soaps and shampoo. So, before I left, I already packed some of my unused clothing, soaps and shampoo to be given to any Cuban I met. That's the plan. But then when I arrived, thank God I can give it to housekeeper in my hotel, for her and her family. So I was happy that my intentions well received but what I saw and experienced was beyond what I expected. Beside Havana, I went to Vinales and passed by Pina del Rio and yes they are beautiful but in Indonesia we have also have sooo many beautiful beaches and mountains. So that not something new for me to see. But the people, the crumbling buildings, the (surprisingly) expensive accommodation and restaurants for tourist, the no internet, the limited supply of water, the slum, those were the highlight of this trip. Plus the salsa and latin jazz which I loved most. My trip to Cuba makes me grateful on what I have in this world. But now that I know the truth, I'm still coming back to Cuba to visit other cities and help more people there. ps: my husband had culture shocked longer than me :)
why would people get mad your being honest I agree I'm Cuban born there and my country is beautiful but it has it's difficulties the capital has been well kept but the city around it is falling apart thank you for being honest but even as run down as my beautiful island is I love it to the death of me
You are very bright and very well informed. God Bless you. I am of Cuban Descent and we have all known this for years. Thx for sharing your experience and I'm sure the Cuban People couldn't thank you enough. Well done.
I do not normally take the time to write much and respond to videos / social comments etc. but your Cuba video and your comments struck a nerve and I felt compelled to write. I just got back ( last week) from a 10 day trip to cuba. "The real Cuba". I was born in the US and my mother and father left Cuba in 1960 after the revolution took over. For many years my mother wanted to go visit Cuba to see her old neighborhood, sites, school, etc. My mother is from Guantanamo Cuba. We flew to Holguin and drove to Santiago, Guantanamo, drove to Baracoa. etc.. went through all the small town through the country side with some amazing sites and spectacular views. We Drove from Guantanamo all across the island toward Havana. 2 day drive, across the country through the middle though cities like Camaguey and Santa Clara, etc. I did not really visit the ultra tourist areas like varadero. When I got to Havana I we went to Vinalles, Pinar del rio for the day. I took over 1000 digital pictures with my canon DSLR and over 100 hours of video with my gopro. The reason I'm telling you this is to paint the pictures so you understand that I had a great opportunity to see the real cuba, not just Havana. I have also traveled to many different countries including central and south America, So I have a good perspective on world travel and economic living conditions. So after hearing your comments, I must say that I agree with you 100%. I don't understand the negative feedback you're getting about your view on Cuba. I saw it first hand, you're right about Havana and it's a good thing you did not go the rest of the country side because you would have been more depressed and sad. For the most part, Havana is a small geographic area compared to the entire island. Your right Havana has 2 sides to it.. #1.). the fancy hotels, with great food and drinks, where tourist stay in nice places and come back with an entirely different view of the real Cuba. and the other #2) where the real people of Havana live, where some struggle to survive and in many cases missing bare necessity like toilet seats, etc. From what I saw a good majority of the island is #2. Of course, Cubans survive and in spite of their struggles, they still find the spirits to dance, tell jokes and have a good time. Cubans are very family oriented and they protect each other. You see that's the thing about Cubans, they have become a resilient society, they are survivors of a great depression and they have lived this way for so many years, that what seems in our view to be extreme poverty.. the native Cubans have become accustomed to living this way. In Havana, it's like you say. There are two sides of Havana. The nice hotels and restaurants and around the corner the poverty stricken areas where the buildings are crumbling in disrepair. ( which to me seems like the majority of old Havana.) I studied architecture and what some people view as old charming buildings, I view as classic Spanish architecture that is in disrepair and in need of renovations and structural support. It a shame to see the way these beautiful buildings are falling apart. There is nothing charming about a building that collapses in disrepair with people living in the building. I heard this happens sometimes in Havana. Of course, there is no public funding to help keep these building structurally sound so in many cases the government steps in and relocates the people before it self-destructs. That's a good thing. You mentioned you went to see where people live in Havana and you had a chance to speak to locals. I'm curious did you speak to them in Spanish? I also spoke to many cubans in Spanish on the island..( not only in Havana).. I can confirm you conversions that a majority 99.5% are not happy with their economic or living conditions. Overall they all had this same reoccurring theme and feelings of hopelessness. Most said they hope for change in relationships with the US and they all welcome tourists because they feel this is a way for them to see additional income and try to have a better life. So my trip had two sides since after all this is what cuba. I did not stay at the fancy hotels, but I did take my mother out for dinner in Havana to nice restaurants. Also, I had a chance to smoke some good Cuban cigars and drink good Cuban rum. Great music too, Cuba has some of the best musicians in all the world. My trip was an eye opener for sure and it's important people know the real Cuba so they are not misled into thinking that all of Cuba is like the fancy hotels around el parke central. Hopefully, things will get better soon for the Cuban people. Sorry for the long rant but since it's all fresh to me now I just wanted to get my 2 cents in on this topic. In the next few weeks, I will be posting some Cuba trip videos on youtube.
john rodriguez i appreciate your words. I to want to go and see where my grandfather grew up at how his life was prior to his parents coming to america. I want to see it 1st hand
john rodriguez Cuba and Porto Rico are in a sense alot alike (putting politics aside). I like to refer to these 2 islands as Caribbean Cousins. Tourists visiting Puerto Rico normally stay in San Juan. What they need to do is venture outside of the tourist areas and meet the locals and see how the locals live. Great reply, my friend.
I agree, it’s a reality check to venture outside of tourist areas. When I went I stayed in old Havana in an apartment so I experienced more of what the day to day is and then when I walked into tourist Havana it felt like going to Oz. But I was really moved how the people have so much warmth and resourcefulness and creativity. I am now raising money and saving to buy supplies to give next time I go back.
I just dont get why people who are not from Cuba try to act like if they know all the difficulties and harsh moments that the natives have to go through. Yes, of course Cuba is not the best looking country or has the best buildings, cars or simply everyday needs. And yes they get paid very low incomes but at least it has stayed on its own through the US blockade. Something that the two governments, american and cuban have to acknowledge of its tremendous mistake. And open doors doe both nations. Cuba is a country who is living off tourism, so of course they had to create a better looking Havana so that the tourists could have their comfort, though its not the most luxurious since Cuba doesn't have all the abilities other third world countries have to offer the visitors.
What about Rio De Janeiro? It looks all nice in the tourist parts but I dare you to venture off in to the favellas. I guarantee you the favellas are FAR worst.
I was born in Cuba, and lived almost 30 years of my life there. Most of my family still live there. I agree totally with your comments, I think you were very nice about it. One thing is to live in Cuba, like the majority of Cubans, another is to visit Cuba for one or two weeks in as a tourist. Thanks for your honesty.
You have a very good understanding of how things are over there. Although there are places that are very colorful and most of the people you meet are sociable, the reality is that most people are just tying to survive. Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
Thank-you for allowing "According to Joe" the opportunity to use this video on Cuba. It was very informative, and you presented some much needed truths about the country.👍
They do not care either. They just go to Cuba to have fun and could care less about the people there go though every day and if asked they will not waste a second in blaming the US embargo, when it is in fact 60 years of one of the harshest, most repressive communist dictatorships in the world.
Correct, and that is the reason why when Cubans have the opportunity to leave, no matter where they go, the feelings about people and governments of foreign nations ...
What you said about Cuba could be said of most of the Caribbean islands I've toured. You have the nice tourist areas and step off the beaten path and, well you said it. .Sadly so many people do little or no research before they travel and spend the trip complaining about everything. For the record (I live in S California) you can go to Long Beach and as long as you stay on the main drag you'll find. Venture a few bucks off and you better have a gun. The drugs and beaten down buildings and homes will scare you. America has no right to really complain about other countries. Been to Detroit lately? Might want to check it out. I love it when people tell me.........yeah, we just returned from Barbados and it was so beautiful. So I ask did you go here or that and they say....Will never left Sandals resort........ Like they never so Barbados at all when they really saw nothing. To them I say Why not just stay home and go the resorts near you?
This is not fair. I can go to Florida for example and take pictures for the homeless people and the poor neighborhood and say there is two America and make the same videos you did
No. No country resources are like America. Homeless people have resources they can go to for some "type" of help here in America. Food clothes shelters foodstamps wic FAFSA Low income housing. Ect. Nobody has that but America. it's sad but Americans that's homeless can eat bathes get clean clothes. Shoes if abled body they can get a job. These veteran's get a government check once a month. It's not too much to who??? You? Me? But then we got rooming homes. Studios. They ain't got NONE of these
Welcome to Gary, Indiana - Detroit, MI Little Haiti FL and countless other forgot neighborhoods in the US. While there are nice structures set up to be an illusion of grandeur it's a facade to the reality of the power a country's government has over the land and its people.
of course you are right; hopefully people will educate themselves on the political, economic and cultural fine points before going there, especially those who have travelled only to more economically developed areas of Mexico, Central America or Islands of the Caribbean. I guess some tourists who will vacation there for a week at a nice resort will still be pretty oblivious to these facts when they leave after the week or so. The view that you are explaining is like those of us who have travelled a la carte and live with the average Cuban during their visit will completely understand your view. Even after one makes a decision to visit there on their own and stay in casa particular should think of the experience as an educational "holiday" as like you say they will quicly be hit with the reality of the economic issues in Cuba. Beyond your description of the government as trying to mislead tourists it is not completely intentional from their view....rather the country has a critical need to keep their tourist industry thriving as it is the most important income for all Cubans. thanks very much for this.(I have been there living in both extremes on vacation but I still felt sad to leave as the people are very special there)
Coming from Europe, I don't know anyone who thought travelling to Cuba would be a 'luxury holiday' - they did their research and knew exactly what to expect - including the impact of the US led embargo? How strange you'd assume they would think otherwise. Baffled by this sort of vlog to be honest...
Who is this travel writer? Of course there are areas for tourists and areas for locals. Almost everywhere in the world is like that even NYC where I live. The poverty and ugliness is never highlighted. I just got back from Cuba having spent a week there with my family including teenage kids. Yes it is a communist country which you are aware of because there are few if any signs of western style consumerism, advertizing, and ostentatious wealth. The local bus cost less than 5 cents for all four of us. A loaf of break is less than a nickel. People are well dressed and well fed not only in Havana but all over Cuba, We stayed in a "poor" neighborhood full of dilpidated houses and broken streest but in a beautiful if run down mansion in Havana and loved it. The people were great and food was good too. We walked around and saw the locals in their houses watching TV, or listening to music. We saw Airconditioning units everywhere and everyone had a phone. We went to local places and tourist places and like the local places better. We travelled to Trinidad and Santa Clara and Caibarien and Cayo Santa Maria and Varadero and saw the countryside and small towns, We saw the all inclusives in Cayo Santa Maria but never stayed there and stayed at people's houses in nice clean though spartan rooms all with AC and bathrooms instead. We talked to a lot of people about their lives and they were honest and forthcoming. They support the revolutionary ideas but don't like communism for the most part and just want to live their lives with more economic and political freedom. I have traveled all over asia and in many places in the Caribbean and the poverty is evident everywhere. Cuba has a lot of problems but it has free health care, low infant mortality rates (lower than the US) almost no malnutrition, no real homeless, very little adject poverty, very high literacy rate and a reltiavely long average life span. So they are obviously getting some things right if very unfair in many ways. Also we did not see many police or army soldiers in our travels all around the country and felt extraordinarily safe. We were told by locals that real crime was very low. All in all go if you can and find out for yourself.
That's exactly how I felt about Boracay- Island in Philippines! So depressing and sad. Online, it has a reputation to be one of the best Islands in the world! Such a terrible misrepresentation, and I stayed at a 4 star hotel on the beach.
Vanilla Sky , you did a good job telling more of the whole story on Cuba . You seem to be a sweet intelligent young lady that has common sense . I get tired of hearing the phony stories on Cuba . People should know the truth. Most people like Jasmi only have contact with the 20% who are independent from the original system . Taxis , proprietors of Casa Particular and paladares , guides and other tourist industry workers . These are the " poor but happy smiling Cubans " often mentioned by misguided tourists . The other 80% of the population lacks food , medicine , decent clothes . Shampu and toothpaste are considered luxuries . Many go to bed hungry because of food rationing . The reason crime is low is because no one has anything worth stealing . If one gets caught stealing a cell phone , they can get nine years in prison . If they are caught stealing cattle , they get 25 years for taking "state property " . The embargo has little effect . In fact there is a U.S. container ship that delivers food every week because the Castros don't know how to manage resources on the island . Many products from China , Korea , South America and Europe are imported , but are taxed 300% to milk the poor people . These are facts , not opinions . Those like Jasmi Alemany who never bothered to analyze why a doctor has to drive a cab for a living are doing the Cuban people a huge disservice .
You said it you usually stay at luxury hotels. The people are poor but they are happy. If you judge a place by the luxuries you won't like Cuba. I judge it by the warmth of the people. I love it there and can't wait to go back and visit my Cuban friends. It's funny some of the poorest countries have the happiest people and Cuba is one of them.
I just got back from Cuba! Turists, Specially comunist supporters with Guevara T shirt usually stay close to the turistic areas (resorts, fancy stores, and where there is a bit of capitalism) thats why they say good things about the contry, but the truth is 90% of Cuba is porverty and totaly destroyed for me the worst contry ive been so far! and im from Brasil! Socialism sucks!
I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. First of all beauty is a subjective term. The fact that the infrastructure is so outdated makes Cuba beautiful in my personal opinion because it is intact. I have been to Cuba twice and planning to go again. In my last two trips I met many Cubans that in what you see sadness they see happiness and peace. You mention you always stay in luxury hotels and Cuba is not about that, so I kind of see why it was difficult for you. Its about the people, the culture and the infrastructure. There is so much we can learn from cubans! The Cuban people benefits from tourits and if you felt so bad for them why are you bashing the country. (Makes no sense) Reality is, Cuba is not even a top priority for americans; everyone knows most americans do not travel so I dont see the reasoning behind this video. Cuba has THE most amazing beaches, the mountains and landcape are beautiful !! And if you venture to the country side you will see the different modes of transportation the cuban people use. ( horses, bikes, old cars, etc all sharing the same road) I met a doctor who was also a taxi driver and he loves his country and would never leave! It is a cultural shock but its an amazing one! Traveling is amazing but traveling with an open mind will make the experience even greater!
Jasmi Alemany I disagree with your opinion The structure is not intact I am guessing your comment about Americans not travelling is based on the idea of not owning a high percentage of passports. You must realize the distance between Los Angeles to New York is 3000 miles.
So you would gladly give up the ability to travel at all? Or, even across the island, which would cost three months salary? Or going out to eat at a restaurant with your family, which would cost a month's salary? Or internet access at all, which is how you posted this absurd statement? I doubt you'd give any of that up. But you praise depriving Cubans of that ability, how noble of you! It's just your opinion, anyway. So no one gets hurt...right.
Drew , You are correct . Some people just don't get it . Having no freedom or options is not to be desired , The crumbling buildings and poverty is only beautiful to people who care only about themselves at the expense of the Cuban people . The culture in Cuban would be ten times what it is if it had a decent system. Another thing that gets lost in translation is the fact that tourists rarely have contact with the 80% who struggle the most . The tourist only sees the taxi drivers , waiters , tour guides and the owners of the casa particular . These people have exited the system and earn $25 a day instead of $25 a month ,
Jasmi Alemany You are the typical dumb tourist who does not see beyond what it is shown to them. If Cuba is so happy why does it have the highest suicide rate in the western hemisphere and one of the highest in the world? Why Cubans risk their lives to leave the island. Do you know that more than 100,000 have died in the sea trying to escape?
Tell that to the Cubans who can't get treated at a sanitary hospital. The infrastructure is not outdated for its authenticity, it's because the government does not give a crap about the people and the government officials pocket the money. It's not paradise for its people. If you are Cuban and live there, you live like shit.
Have you been to NYC, Washington, DC, Detroit? In Washington not far from the White House and tourist hotels you see the ugly underbelly of our American system where a few are very affluent and many are abjectly poor. You Don't have to go far. The same is true in NYC, Philadelphia and Detroit not to mention Apalachia, much of the deep south and plenty of the west where you see entire towns comprised of trailer parks and run down houses. One doesn't say that we are hiding it from tourists and not telling the truth, it just is.
The pity you claim to have for Cubans is misplaced. While you may value makeup, they have chosen to value music, ballet, education, health, a drug-free society, and freedom from violence. In a single night in January 2015, 564,708 people were experiencing homelessness in the US. I think you should reserve your pity for Americans if you are one.
I think you do have a good heart and I applaud your travel to different parts of the world to interact with different people. However, bearing in mind that opinions are subjective, It may be more appropriate if you reference your video as an opinion, not the 'truth'. This is necessary because I am personally aware of several Cubans who are in careers they chose. In my field, which happens to be medical, there are Cubans such as Pedro Antonio Valdes-Sosa. The interesting thing about Dr. Pedro is that his dad, a medical doctor who practiced in the US, chose to move their family to Cuba after the revolution. Today, Pedro is a renowned neuroscientist at the forefront of research related to brain mapping. Even though he has US citizenship by birth, he has chosen to live and work in Cuba. The institution Pedro heads hosted a Nobel laureate a few days ago. Remaining on the subject of choice, I'll include here a video shot by a Dutch couple who visited Cuba. In the video, a young Cuban describes how he decided he wanted an artistic career after watching a theater group perform in his town. Driven by that desire, he participated in competitive tests to secure a spot in the national art school. This account of self-motivation and CHOICE completely contrasts your description. vimeo.com/202537295
Isaac Chukwudebe your moron nobody choose not to have material things. The government imposed that. Fuck you you dont know how its to live in a poor country where you can be killed just for having a better phone
Isaac Chukwudebe Homelesness?, have you even cared to find out how many people are homeless in Cuba??? LOL they do not even build houses in cuba, hell, they do not even sell building supplies or even a simple hammer and nails!!!! Newly married people have to live with their parents you *STUPID FUCK.*
The thing is we have too much...more than what we need. Cubans don’t. I would bet you though that the suicide, depression, drug and alcohol addiction are far less in Cuba. They are family oriented and non competitive. That means a lot. Also, for living in the richest countries in the world...ever take a ride around Detroit or Chicago. Inner city kids in the U.S and Canada are poor and uneducated. Unlike Cuba. Say what you want but they are rich in what’s important.
I understand how you feel. The Cuban people are treated like animals by their government. It was depressing to see how bad the people have it their . The classic cars are not usually owned by the government . Government officials get new cars . The yellow taxis are government owned as well as the rental cars
You can thank the efforts of your nation for their torturous sanctions and embargoes that have been against these noble people, for standing up against the Beast for the past 50 some years! For the past four years I have been doing missionary trips to this great nation--best heart and soul in the world! As far as their lack of material goods, wait till you see the USI when it finally goes broke
Lack of trade with the US is what has put Cuba in the sad state it is currently in? Cuba has been trading with EVERY other nation on earth since the embargo was imposed. The embargo imposes no sanctions on other countries that trade with Cuba. And allows for trade with the US regarding food and medicine. Cuba had a sweetheart deal with the Soviet Union (until that monstrous regime collapsed under its own weight) on which the Cuban economy depended. Cuba has never recovered from the withdrawal of Soviet financial support. No. The blame for Cuba's current state lies solely with the Castros and their cronies.
Vanilla Sky, thank you very much for telling the truth that many others refuse to talk about it. That is Cuba 2017 after the re - establish diplomatic relations with the United States.
It doesn't surprise me anything, because the bible explains it why. In addition to myself felt bad for them, but if they would know what I have to go through as Jesus, then they would practically pick up themselves in a way to made up their bed and walk, instead to always wait for others to give them donations for doing nothing. In this case Havana might be even one of the best places,, when comes to other places such as Rafael Freyre. Watch, you might be damaged by anyone from there while making friends and this could happen in your own country. Not accusing anyone, but this is the fact. Business owners are seriously bad people, and this is the way to find out where thieves are and how they operate. I still don't blame the regular people, but they really stilll don't want you to succeed. Takes time to find out what is in their heart. Each country has their own standard of living and according to that, their salary is in comparison to the prices in their own money.
You should have done some homework before traveling to Cuba. That aside, you have painted a pretty accurate picture of Old Havana. However, judging conditions in Cuba by Habana Vieja is like judging New York City based on midtown Manhattan. Stay in Holguin for a few days, then go on to Santiago. I would be interest in reading your impressons.
Thank you for your honest review. Coming from a Cuban background, I know few people truly understand the "big picture" of what Cuba really is like. I went myself last year, for the first time in my life (born in the US of Cuban descent)... and the best word I can give to describe it is .. "Raw". Your video evokes the same word, in my mind.
Can't agree enough. I have a unique perspective as I still have blood relatives who live this reality. I was born in the US of Cuban parents. I grew up in the culture. I understand, more than most, how lucky I am. US Millenials DO NOT HAVE A CLUE as to how lucky THEY are. I'm about to take my children out of the country for the first time in their lives (age 8 & 9) to Cuba -- in about 3 weeks. They will meet blood family who never left Cuba when my side left in the 60's when they had the chance. Assuredly, it will blow their minds. They don't know how good the have it. iPads, Netflix, you name it. I went to Costco today and spent $110 in OTC meds to take with me on my next voyage to Cuba. Quite seriously, things as simple as aspirin and tylenol are either (a) unobtainable or (b) unaffordable. That is the result of communism/socialism in Cuba. And for those who what to say that the US is at fault for their embargo of Cuba, I point to Venezuela who is experiencing the same downfall as Cuba did -- without any embargo, I might add -- solely based on the realities that communism/socialism ruins every economy in the history of our planet.
Just curious, what's your gear? I'm a wannabe photog -- headed south with some Gopro's and a MFT rig (last time I brough a full Nikon rig and realized travel photography needs to be lighter!)
seven minute video of her basically saying she didn't know she was going to a poor country...better yet, she didn't know she was going to SUCH a poor country. Cuba's dope, forget this lol
I was in Cuba with my family and we all attended a medical conference. I live and practise in Australia and we stayed in Havana Veijo Air BNB and also in Varadero (tourist infested) We avoid the touristy sections. People were happy and survive well despite being strangled by the yanks ought not to interfere any more after 5 decades. I have travelled for over 40 years to nearly 70 countries and we all loved Cuba. So what if you earn much less than in the USA? At least we do not fund issues like paranoid defence schemes and Centrelink defrauders! You are of course entitled to your own opinion.
You are so on the money! There are two Havanas the fake one for tourists with expensive Hotels and Restaurants and the pleasure of taking rides in in the classic cars The real Havana and the fake are worlds apart. A little about the cars, look good on the outside but mostly powered by high pollutant Chinese diesels engines and with many foreign parts to hold them together. Yes the people seem happy what else are they going to do walk around sad, no they deal with what they have and make the most of it .There is NO future for a Cuban in Cuba! Highest paying job in Cuba is around $30.00 a month that is why everyone is on the take. Most Cubans in Havana rely on Tourists for money. This is a third world country go to the Average Cuban apartment and you would be in shock! Beautiful people but will take you for a ride in they can get money from you Can't blame them it's all the corrupt Government they live with. I LOVE CUBA the real one!
And you only scratch the surface. To add to the subject, there are many hypocrites parasites who don't like to do any real productive work and/or sacrifice themselves as we do in a Democratic society with a free market economy, those are identified with the government, chanting slogans that nobody including themselves believe, and have access to the web with the solely purpose to spread propaganda against the true situation. The REAL people in Cuba are more concern with find quick solutions to their daily situations instead of thinking in a general insurrection against the dynastic dictatorship. They know that the rest of the World is aware of this only to become silent partners in crime with the dictatorship.
HOW COME YOU DID NOT TALKING ABOUT THE FREE EDUCATION? WHAT ABOUT THE FREE MEDICARE, AND THE SAFETY ON THE STREETS AT NIGHT, OR THE GOOD HEART OF THEIR PEOPLE, THE CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE OF EVEN THE JANITORS !!! IF THE HOUSES AND BUILDING ARE NOT AT YOUR SATISFACTION, PRESSURE YOUR CRIMINAL GOVERNTMENT FOR 60 YEARS OF BLOCKADE AND PRESSURE TO MAKE CUBA BACK THEIR HORE-HOUSE THEY LOST WITH THE REVOLUTION !!!!
Cuba is the way it is becouse USA blockaid, For cuba goverment and it's people to survive this USA atrocity, they have to do what they do. Don't blame Cuba for surviving their independence from a Country that wants to controll them. I am amazed for how they have survived with so little.
Based on your inclined opinions and words, I feel you are basing your thoughts on why the cubans are poor is becouse of their Goverment. Which i differ, that's all. I think that if you are going to give information about a country's situation you should be more explanatory about their history of why they are in that situation. I believe that if some of your subscribers are not suficciently educated about Cuba, will conclude by your opinions and thoughts that their own country is all to blame becouse you are not painting the whole picture with your words... just my opinion though, after watching your whole video...
They don't like it , I heard it first hand while in cuba. If anyone thinks they would like it.. I suggest they move there for a few months and then tell me how they feel.
Being inarticulate has nothing to do with the content of your post. You think a person needs to have visited Cuba before they can tell when someone is inarticulate? Here is the definition of "inarticulate"=unable to speak distinctly or express oneself clearly. You spent the first 2:30 minutes of your post in an attempt to tell the audience why and what your were going to talk about including telling the audience you are a social blogger, . This is an example not expressing your self clearly. What does that have to do with whether I have ever been to Cuba?
I am doing research on my upcoming Cuban trump and found your you tube post and it seemed to me you wanted to let people know about your opinion of Cuba for those planning their travel there. I guess you just can't accept criticism of your presentation style. I found it difficult to follow your post as it was inarticulate. I am sorry this criticism is upsetting you and did not mean for it to do that. I promise not to seek your posts for my future travel research. I did not find it necessary to use vulgar language either when I communicated with. I am not sure why you felt compelled to be vulgar in your response to me.
The point is not that they are under-privileged, rather that Americans are born with golden spoons in their mouth! It is a communist nation, with a sense of equity. In such a world materialism matters less because the makeup and fancy dresses you are talking about is nothing but a crust. The real you is how you are in front of your mom on a rather non-eventful day. The world starting from Uganda to Switzerland (where I am living) is biased based on economy and the gradient of resources. If you make a mean between the economy in these two places what you get is Cuba! There's a balance between world poverty limit and wealth. The quintessential question here is, if it is hygienic? Do the people get uncanny diseases and have short life-expectancy? None of these holds true! P.S> Cuba invented the cure for cancer some times back. Do check it out ? ;)
I rather have health care though.
Do you know what sanctions are? Or the past 60 years of their relationships to the USA?
I'm Cuban born and raised! And I'm glad you got it! My county is beautiful yes! But like you said, once you see it?! It breaks your heart! I go and visit and it still breaks my hurt! I'm happy and blessed to have moved to Miami! But if you ever wanna hear raw stories go to Miami and talk to Cubans there! You'll get good straight hearted stories just like mines..let me know if your interested and I'll share, be blessed🙏
I think it’s the Communism that ruined it. Communism ruins everything it touches.
Exactly right.
I am Cuban and this is 100000% correct. Finally a tourist that tells the truth about Cuba. *THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!*
PERDON PERO YO CONOZCO CUBANOS QUE VIVEN EN CUBA Y DEFIENDEN SU PATRIA Y LOS GUSANOS QUE TRAICIONAN A SU PROPIA PATRIA, GENERALMENTE ESTOS VIVEN EN YANKILANDIA !
@@eugeniopellin1006 stfu
I don’t understand the like to dislike ratio because this video was 100% accurate. People don’t realize the oppression Cubans face. There is a reason Miami is full of Cubans, they had to escape. People are barely able to live because of how much the regime take m
Thank you for speaking the truth! My family is Cuban and hate what Cuba has become. T
Good commemt, i live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, city of only 700 tho, homicides is higher here than whole Cuba , country if 12 millions
I read the same thing about crime in Cuba. It came directly from the Havana Times which is a State Run media outlet and has been for the past five decades. Just on a side note, the QHA Crimean News Agency was also reporting peace in the Ukraine four years ago.
@Quest Physics... Thank your Democrat leaders who are pushing for socialism...
@@manoffayth 100% completely agree!
(See above)
I'm certainly not trying to say that Cuba is a perfect country certainly not, but when you say things, you have to be critical for why the things are how they are.
Í heard given people good free educational.
I will proceed about Cuba:
What I saw: Cuban people actually going to concerts, restaurants, galleries, eating out, having drinks, going to dance in fancy places.
*YOU ARE A MORON* if your think Cuba is the way it is because of an embargo and not because of the communist dictatorship.
I really appreciate your honesty here! A lot of people really don't mention or take into account what the people there are really going through.
I can go to Florida for example and take pictures for the homeless people and the poor neighborhood and say there is two America and make the same videos you did
Ana Wa7ed min alnass exactly....has she been to ghetto parts of major American cities? Or the rural South?
Studios. They ain't got NONE of these
Yeah I get it. America really is becoming like Cuba. You should see parts of my city.
Thank you for letting " according to joe" use your video...really important to let people know the truth
Was borned there so fuck communism. Im happy living in a free country 🇺🇸💪
go back

What is wrong with you? U a communist? Why don’t you go there.
Amen!
Glad you made it were happy to have you!
Welcome to Gary, Indiana - Detroit, MI Little Haiti FL and countless other forgot neighborhoods in the US. While there are nice structures set up to be an illusion of grandeur it's a facade to the reality of the power a country's government has over the land and its people.
Start at 2:50, the time until thin is her rambling about how she wants to tell the truth about her experience.
of course you are right; hopefully people will educate themselves on the political, economic and cultural fine points before going there, especially those who have travelled only to more economically developed areas of Mexico, Central America or Islands of the Caribbean.
Sadly I didn't. But thank you for your clarification. Obviously I respect your opinion but it just hasn't been my experience at all.
Sounds like the biggest danger is the dilapidated buildings collapsing. I hear of it happening in Nigeria. Adeola has talked about it.
Thanks Hofit! Love your videos and your truth! Thanks for your honesty! Much respect!
Jasmi Alemany I disagree with your opinion
The structure is not intact
I am guessing your comment about Americans not travelling is based on the idea of not owning a high percentage of passports.
Sounds like Cuba is a great place to visit for a week - and then go home. Kind of like my home town of Buffalo, NY. Its a great place to be from.

Lol you have no idea what you are talking about. Get educated.
You are a phoney dipshit.
Th is is awesome! i thought i was the only one that felt this way! continue sharing your experenices. you literally stole the words right out my mouth
I understand how you feel. The Cuban people are treated like animals by their government. It was depressing to see how bad the people have it their . The classic cars are not usually owned by the government . Government officials get new cars . The yellow taxis are government owned as well as the rental cars
Lets be clear- A "Self Proclaimed" travel blogger and Social Media influence.
How did you come to the conclusion that I was bitter? Let me guess... You're also a Clinical psychology blogger?
Well, it looks like you finally decided to see how the real world is. You aren't going to see that in 5 star hotels anywhere. Cuba is no different.
very nice video. people need to.understand things aren't what they seem in cuba. Keep pursuing the truth.
I used to live in Cuba and the rest of my family lives there my aunt lives in Havana and also my cousin
Come to my city in the USA. We have an event that draws the world. few come to the neighborhood i live in. LOL So you can say the same thing about DC.
This exists in every third world country, thanks! for cuban americans & trump the struggle still continues.
Cuba is beautiful
Your beautiful!! thanks for the great info for my
Upcoming trip to Cuba
like you said , you usually stay in 5 star hotels>>>Enough said#
*luxury hotels
They know that the rest of the World is aware of this only to become silent partners in crime with the dictatorship.
umm..umm...umm..baaa...baaa...baaa... Sorry, learn TRUE HISTORY, and how this... never mind. WAKE UP!!!
It is what it is!
Snow White is gorgeous!
you payed 50$ on airbnb per day and still you believe that Cubans have 20$ per month???
with 90% tax - stil 150$ per month
I hate Havana. I wish you would have went to Holguin.
This could be said about any city.
Yeah, like Detroit and San Francisco.
Honey what you seen in Cuba is true every were you have been , you just wasn't looking
I believe that if some of your subscribers are not suficciently educated about Cuba, will conclude by your opinions and thoughts that their own country is all to blame becouse you are not painting the whole picture with your words... just my opinion though, after watching your whole video...
lol...ok, Im sure you don't. but I apreciate your informative video and your opinions. thanks for taking the time.
Your information is nice. I miss that green nail polish of yours
Vanilla Sky Dreaming ohhhh so sad.....
Can't afford a new set set of nails ? Got a Patreon account ?
Great video, you're really well informed!
Capital of the city?
Vanilla Sky Dreaming I didn't know cities have capital s
I came here for the videos of cuba and I leave for the egotistic monologue about a woman I don’t care for. Disliking asf.
cuba
So ethnocentric
DAMN IM LIKING THAT SHIRT ON U... LOOKIN BEAUTIFUL...
why do all americans have such negative frizzn opinions?its a communiust country, they like their country.its not frizzn USA..thanks Christ..
captaineh most Cubans don't like the conditions they live under in Cuba
They don't like it , I heard it first hand while in cuba. If anyone thinks they would like it.. I suggest they move there for a few months and then tell me how they feel.
She is very inarticulate.
No
Being inarticulate has nothing to do with the content of your post.
John Grove she's a freaking bimbo.
She really thinks she’s all that.... lol
It's um... 5 minutes um... and um... you still um... have not um... gotten to the umm...... point. This hurt to watch. Just being brutely honest.
Do check it out ? ;)
