I don't comment anywhere, but I just boughta brand new 2016 Honda HR-V and this worked for it. I use the Lightning HDMI adapter, and do not need a chromecast, but this way works! Thanks a ton!

this dose work on my 2015 si non nav head unit, it let's me use the mirror link with my HTC m9 and it doesn't cut out while driving but it does reset when you shut the car off so you have to turn it off every time you want to use it, thanks for finding that setting

The biggest reason I'd want to do this is that unfortunately, our units aren't Android Auto. I love to use Waze and the only way my phone would hook up to the unit is through the HDMI port and a chrome cast. Thank you for this tutorial!
Tried this with my 2014 Honda Civic Si and all was good until I went over 5 mph. Then screen showed HDMI IN. Ill try it again with an HDMI cord. Also read that if your snapshot off in that same menu it will keep you from having to do the hack every time. Any further advice would be helpful, oh I have model with Navi.

what phone are you using? These days its hard to find a phone that has hdmi output.

I have a 2016 HR-V 6 speed Manual, and this trick worked. I used my laptop with HDMI out. Before I connected my HDMI I went through the steps, and turned the DD VSP Error off, but when I connected today I had to turn it off again. I am guessing you will have to do this each time?
Denniel, do you know a way to add a Front-View camera to a Honda? Is there a method to use the HDMI to interface to a front camera?
This worked amazing I mostly wanted to use this function for using the navigation on the screen. The only problem I'm having is that when I turn the car off i have to do the steps to let me view my phone while driving. Is there anything that we can do to save the settings and only have to do it once. ? I have a 2014 Honda Civic ex-l

It works on my Civic Ex Coupe 2015 using my chromecast 2 mirroring my Nexus 7 while connected to my Nexus 5 via hotspot. Also works using my hdmi on my Nexus 5 using the slimport adapter.

I have a 2015 honda civic ce. and I made the change and tested with hdmi cord connected to laptop. it works. but for using with phone (lg g4) would a micro to hdmi cord work or do I need mhl because of phone? would rather not buy chromecast just for using in car.
first you have to make sure your phone can output hdmi and mirror cast you can buy and phone hdmi at target unfourtianetly for my phone (galaxy s6) it did not work currently the only android that works is the htc m9 you can connect it thrue usb and it will be compatible you can even use the touch screen on your navigation for your phone go to 9th gen civic forum to see it in action
+Denniel Machado looks like my phone it compatible with the slimport hdmi adapter. I guess my phone will mirror but not with my car unless I get chrome cast because it doesn't have 2 way mirroring. I would prefer to just have it hdmi wired anyway. I will just give it a try. thanks.

follow this steps :
Connect anything to the HDMI and start it playing or mirroring
Press and hold the Eject button the power button and the home button to bring up the diagnostic screen
Press on the Detail Information and settings selection on the screen, its the bottom one
Press and hold the Menu button
Press the Vehicle Model Information on the screen
Press the DD VSP Error area on the screen, in the lower right
On the next screen press where it says "on" and then press where it says "off" to disable that error
Press the Back button ONCE an turn SNAPSHOT.
then go to main menu

So you have to initiate the chromecast with a wifi connection first right? That's the only part that sucks still. But it is better than nothing.
yes but if you can hot spot in the car it should work also if you phone is compatable with mhl hdmi wire you might be able to mirror screen thrue hdmi
+Denniel Machado +bsfunk44 You can use an amazon fire tv stick or an roku stick to do something called screen mirror. This does not require wifi all you need to do is set up the device with wifi first in the house. Then bring it out to the car at this point if you have a amazon fire tv stick hold the home button and select mirroring then on your android phone mirror to the stick. On the roku streaming stick simply make sure mirroring is enabled in settings then on your phone you should see it as an option under mirroring. I have not tested this with apple devices but it does work with android. This will allow you to use google apps see text messages , anything you can see or hear from the android screen.

+Denniel Machado So WiFi direct is the tech that the android phone uses to send the info to the fire TV stick or Roku stick. This doesn't no need the device to have access to WiFi Internet. The WiFi Internet is only needed during initial configuration.
+Denniel Machado forgot to mention that WiFi direct connects from the android phone directly to the stick. This does not need any additional hardware I can probably upload a video if you want of it working.

Yup, works with my iphone 6s. You need the hdmi lightning adapter and you need the Honda apps.

Thank you Denniel. Now I can sreen mirroring and watch video with android smarthphone (note 3) which the manual says only iphone 4 and above are compatible with the system. Even in driving mode the video still displayed. I tried navigation with Google map but it seems not function even though the route is displayed on screen. Or maybe I need to try again with different method.

Hey thanks for looking into this! Unfortunately it partially worked for me. I have the navi US version of this car (We don't get the auto A/C which is weird) and I deactivated the settings that you brought up. There wasn't any sound and the picture went back to the red screen after driving past 3 MPH. Maybe only works on the non navi models.
yes unfourtianetly people with navi units have reported it wont work for them but hopefully some one can find the exploit just like i did but for the navi sorry man if you want join the 9th gen forum to stay up to date
