Here's a little trick that shows you how to enable your hdmi so that you can use google maps, Waze, watch videos if you are the passenger while driving
Thank you! Was so ticked off at the dealer who told me I just needed to buy a cable and adapter! I finally did that and it disappeared when I put it in drive. This is a bit of a nuisance, as it should just work when plugged in (Stupid nanny programming), but at least I can use my screen now! Thank you!
This also works for my 2015 Honda Civic Sedan Special Edition. I couldn't see why it wouldn't considering both vehicles share similar, (if not identical ) electronics. Helpful hack, thumbs up!
thank you for sharing this video. Now i can keep my son entertain when he sits in the middle back row. (tip: turn off your bluetooth to have sound thru the hdmi)
Thanks, works just as described in the video. Yes, you have to go through the process each time, but no jailbreak of the phone required as some other youtube videos are suggesting to get the same effect of displaying what is on my phone directly to the screen. Thanks very much!
Thank you for this video. Does this hack prevent anything else in the system from working, such as the cameras, or, y'know, whatever else you can do with that monitor? (I have a very old cr-v and I'm thinking of upgrading to the 2015.) Also, can you use the car's touchscreen to control the device, or do you still need to tap on the device to, say, switch to "view route"? Does it play sound also, so you can pipe your phones music through the car's speakers?
It is much easier if you purchase the video cable. No overriding is necessary it does it all for you. (Basically mirrors your phone functions and everything without having to go through all these steps) You do have to install the HondaLink app on your phone but that is easy pleaseie!
@@tiffanybrown5012 hi Tiffany it seems Honda discontinued support for the hdmi functionality. I was really disappointed ☹️ However I haven’t tried to use it in a few months so who knows it could still work. To answer your question I purchased an hdmi cable and the Apple hdmi adapter for iPhone. It worked great until November of last year. When I called Honda they said they no longer support the application. The app is Honda link.
I have tried this with my 2015 honda civic and it works, but I cannot get the audio to play from my stock music app on my iphone, but works for Spotify... any have any idea how to fix this?
thanks so much! answered a lot of questions I had. Is it possible to download goole maps/waze natively on the android os through a honda apps store or google app store?
I don’t know if you’ll still respond to this, but does this still work? Would love to use google maps instead of trying to figure out the HondaLink navigation app and all.
This looks like it works pretty well, but I gather you are required to take the 90 seconds or so every time you start the car to disable the safety mechanism. Okay for a long road trip, but a killer for a shortish commute.
@@atran416 I've never tried the $200 device but have done these free steps shown on this video many times which works great. Unfortunately I traded in for a 2018 Honda which no longer has the HDMI input. However it does have Android Auto and Car Play so can interact with maps and music. just no movies or UA-cam. . Lol.
Do you or anyone know how to get the navigation screen to work when the car is in drive and you want to scroll down on the screen or input an address, etc, for the 2015 Honda CRV?
When I do get mine to work, I cannot get my maps to turn into full-screen like he does. Oddly, UA-cam is full screen on the display though. My screenlock feature is off, also.
On a UK 2016 Honda CRV the button presses are Brightness/Menu/Power - Then select bottom menu. Then hold menu for 5 seconds then scroll to VSP error and turn off
@george lukaszyk - I connected the light connector, hdmi & charger & everything displays great on the screen. However, after I go through the hack and change the setting to "off" and go back to the main screen, hit power and go back to hdmi it looks great. Lastly, when I put the car in drive it stays up, but as soon as go above 5 mph it shuts off...? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any thoughts you might have!
The same was my experience when I tried this trick 2 years ago. Looks like there are 3 levels of protection in Touring 2015 with Navi that uses dual screen. This firmware has MAP DD option below VSP Error option on that hidden screen. First level is when you shift from Parking, second is when you start moving, third is when you go over 5mph. And there are only 2 levels in trims that have just VSP Error line there, like George's CRV 2015. The Channel D video (scroll through 'UA-cam recommended' after you watched this one), shows CRV 2015 Touring (with DD MAP option present). But this video also doesn't show driving high speed, and I no longer have a cable to try it out. Did anyone ever see this trick working for CRV 2015 Touring on highway speed?
I have a 2016 Honda CRV and followed the instructions given for the 2015 CRV, keeping the HDMI active while driving. It appeared all was well and working until I put the car in motion----the screen went blank with HDMI in the center----when I stopped the car, HDMI began working again. Could there be a change in the 2016 vehicle from the 2015 that prevents keeping the HDMI screen active while moving---??
@@brittybratt86 I think this hack works on a 2016 Honda CR-V unless you have a Touring. Unfortunately, the Touring uses a different navigation system that can't be hacked or overridden. I eventually gave up and got rid of the adapter that I bought. I could get my screen to work in park but once my vehicle started moving or maybe reached 5 mph, it wouldn't work anymore. One of these days, I'll buy a newer vehicle but until then, I'll just use my iPhone for navigation because you can't even update the built-in navigation maps anymore. 2021 is the most recent GPS map update you can buy for the 2016 CR-V.
Do I have to do this every time I go to drive? I can't figure out how to make it stay with these settings. Each time I turn off car and restart it I have to do all these steps again. If there a way to keep it on?
No disrespect but did you watch the same video we did? Like he said at the end of the video. " unfortunately everytime er turn our vehicles off you have to do the mod/hack again and you'll be back in business " From everything that I've been reading ( be I've only been doing research for 20 minutes so far) it seems that is the only workaround to fix this issue. If I do come across a better answer, I'll come back and hopefully you'll see the notification; unless you've already found or know the answer already. 🤞🙂
I've read that if you hit the Snap Shot option after turning the "DD VSP Error" off, the setting gets saved even if you turn your car off. Have you tried that?
+George Lukaszyk Darn. thanks for the video though, I just picked up a lightning av adapter this evening and will be giving your tutorial a try tomorrow.
Could not get this to work for my 2016 HRV. Did not get the Audio Power Screen off screen (all the other screens were the same) and when my phone was plugged in, just received a message that one or more Honda Apps are missing and to download from the App Store. Well as Honda Navigation App, for which we paid $80 odd (Canadian), is no longer available, I have no idea where to get it. As previously, it would only work once or twice then stop. Honda support’s solution was to delete, reinstall then reconnect to car. I was in the process of doing that a couple years ago and only got as far as the delete step. That’s when I discovered that Honda was no longer supporting their own App. So annoying and frustrating. Anyone have any idea where one can get the App since this work around does not work for me?
I bought a cable today and spent whole evening trying to get it work. Nah, Touring 2015 with Navi is different, it may indeed have one more layer to break through. When car goes over 5mph, I get 'HDMI In" message back. Another guy (Channel D) shows in a video that if flipping this option back to "ON" with car in driving mode overrides this lock, but for me it brings back the HDMI message while standing. Did anyone else have better experience? Touring with Navi, specifically (this model has extra option MAP DD below DD VSP Error on this option screen). Anyone???
I don't think it does...everytime you shut off your engine, the computer basically resets, so you would have to go through that process again to turn off the error thing
