thanks, I just bought a 2016 Honda CRV EX and as I was trying to get Honda Link to work, after an hour of trying to make it work I found out that is not made for Androids, so I watched your video and followed your instructions, purchased the Amazon fire tv stick and it works even better, I can watch Netflix and all the videos i have in my Amazon cloud. Hi Sergio, Can you please let me know if we get sound as well or only display in the car screen? I too purchased recently CRV-EX and was trying to use maps form this. I have both Android and iPhone devices, will this be the best way to try it out than with honda-iOS cables?

Phani, yes I do get sound through my bluetooth when I use my fire stick and use my navigation system on my android.

After turning off DD VSP error in my Honda Civic 2015 Touring and ensuring my Samsung S22 screen was properly mirrored in the car display unit while the car was parked.. My phone screen continues to mirror after I engage into D dirve, but as soon as the car picks up speed, the image mirroring disappears from the car Display unit and I get a message "HDMI in". Have you come acroos such an issue before?

The Lane Watch system is wired in a way that it Displays over everything on the screen regardless of whats on it. So yes it still does work.

Rana R no problem, unfortunately you can't control the fire stick with the touch screen because it's only displaying the HDMI.

I was thinking about installing Android Auto on a Fire stick and using it as media player and navigation in my Honda, connected to my mobile phone via WiFi hotspot. Will that work?

Will this work with the newer fire stick with voice remote? You say it's pretty much useless. Does it mean we don't need the extras, or that it won't work if we had it? Someone reviewer on Amazon said "The huge difference is you cannot calibrate screen size with this new stick! Amazon really dropped the ball by not putting that feature in with this new stick! Makes no sense. Many older tvs cannot shrink screen on their own to make the edges of the screen correct. Kind of a deal breaker for me"

sophie huot good question the Roku stick would most likely work but I believe like the Chromecast it's going to need a constant wifi/hotspot. I could be wrong about this because I don't have a Roku to test. Do some research on it and see if it is compatible with your phone, does it even mirror/screen capture?
I know this is a older video but does anyone know if I just disable the VSP error and I plug my phone into the hdmi will it still bypass the screen cutting off or do I have to have a mirroring device like the fire stick

What happens when the phone screen goes to sleep? will it continue to show the screen in sleep mode? or will it continue to show the lock screen and eventually blank off screen? I know if a movie is playing or the GPS is active then the phone screen will not go to sleep but what about for instance you're playing spotify (where the screen will go to sleep)?
Kal Zoghaibi It's a possibility it will but there are display settings you can change that will keep the phone on longer.

Thank you Jason! Im off to buy a fire stick first. My android phone doesn't have screen mirroring HOWEVER my Android WiFi tablet has the screen mirroring option. So if I Hotspot my tablet I should be able to mirror right (my ultimate goal was the Waze app)
I tested with an Amazon Fire stick and yes, the videos played while in motion. I wasn't able to test with the Waze GPS as I left my tablet at home. But all I can say is YAY! this will do for now until I can afford to get the Honda with Android Auto several years from now!

+sophie huot it won't work without internet. The fire stick is the only device that will mirror without the use of Wi-Fi. You can use the Google chrome cast but you will have to use hotspot constantly.

The real problem to use it is to bypass e-brake each time when car starts. Does not worth trouble.

Bought the Firestick. I see the APPS on the touchscreen (through WIFI). Cannot mirror my Nexus 5X to the touchscreen. Undeer "cast" on my phone, it shows no nearby devices...
Rick Aaron if I am understanding you correctly you're telling me that the fire-stick sees your phone when there's Wi-Fi but when it's off it does not see it?
it picked up my WIFI sitting in my garage....can't mirror my cell phone (Nexus 5X). I have activated "mirroring" on the firestick.
on my phone, under settings/display, it shows "cast". I assume this is mirroring...but it says "no devices are nearby"

HDMI gets you some features but you have to pay for the Navi app $69 can't use the Google map on your phone
Jack Wolf you wouldn't need to do that if you use this method to bypass the HDMI shut off while driving.

Ok - I bought the Amazon TV firestick, Plugged it into my HDMI on our 2015 Honda Civic EX-L. Amazon apps came on the screen, but the phone wanted me to enter a password to connect to the Stick. Is there a default password?
+Jonathan Franzel no there shouldnt be a password. But as far as I know when a password is required it will pop up on the amazon screen with a code and the you would enter that.

dont think so it only works with internet. You would have to use hotspot at all times. If data isnt a problem then ya go ahead but with this method using the fire tv stick its 100% solid at all times

Jat Seong Chiang yes in a way, the chromecast won't really work unless it has Internet completely. so unless you have hot spot running though the chromecast at all times then it won't function correctly
But you will be able to cast many things to chrome cast like youtube, hot star, and many more and even chromecast has screen mirroring facility. I feel chrome cast is better option compared to fire stick
And also your phone needs to have mirroring capability to work with fire stick.. where as the same is not needed when you are using with chrome cast ..

is your phone rooted? and does the stick have a hotspot which is why it works without wifi?
ERON my phone is not rooted and the firestick picks up wifi. it can mirror without using data at all.

yup you don't need any wifi on the amazon fire stick to use the mirror capability. if you do use Hotspot on the firestick you will be able to obviously use all apps which is really nice to have in the car.

B2K10 it's a resolution issue so I would plug it into a tv and make sure the fire stick display resolution is set to auto.

Dregohard609 iPhones should work better through another method! I think it has to do with a lightning cable that converts to HDMI. Once you are able to cast your screen, you can follow this guy's instruction on bypassing the e brake.
