This is a how-to and tutorial video showing you how to pair to and use your wifi in the newer Honda models. The model I am showing you is the 2017 Honda Civic. You can pair to any outside wifi source within range or your mobile hotspot on your smartphone or tablet, like an Apple iPhone or Android device.

Just had my 2018 CRV two weeks but I LOVE it. Still looking at video's and learning from all the excellent information. Was shown these things with purchase but it was a lot to take in.

I remember trying this on my honda fit EX 2018. I tried UA-cam and I was so shocked. Lol. Owned the car for about 5 years and my car still amazes me with little things I keep finding out about it.

I wish I could have asked you that question before. I bought the 2018 model and the CarPlay maps doesn’t work in full mode and my hope was to use WiFi in the car for Google maps instead.
I would need to live with this for the next 5 years or until Honda and or Apple come with a better integration of software

@@gearedtowardsautomotive this particular method worked for me for yeas...but just recently all youtube videos won't play just a handful might...that would last for weeks and then for a day or 2 all videos would play again no problem...but then back to not playing most again

I really don’t get it. So I create a hotspot with my phone to connect to my Honda so I can create a Honda hotspot? Why wouldn’t I just connect the devices in my car using the hotspot on my phone? Why wouldn’t I just browse the Internet on my phone that i can hold in my hand? I have these features but I really don’t see how they are useful at all. What do I gain from connecting my Honda to the internet other than being able to browse the internet for some weird reason?
You gain a larger screen, my phone is so small & this is easier to see for me.
@@fredziffle5219 larger screen? Mine was a 2018 pilot. Only screen I have is the kids screen in the back and the front one can’t view anything more than car play would have. What larger screen did you gain? My kids usually have the iPad plugged into the rear hdmi for movies and they can download ahead or connect to my phone for hotspot. How does this affect screen sizes in any way? Maybe newer models are different?
@@strawberry4450 my phone is smaller than the screen he shows on the dashboard of this vehicle.
Watch it again, you might have missed it. He turns the whole car dashboard screen into a computer modem.

For those wondering this works because the infotainment system runs Android. On my 2020 CR-V it's Android 4.x so quite a old version. But that means you can sideload Android apps.

This is why I love my 2020 civic sport. WiFi makes storm chasing awesome. No struggling with hotspots or signal with radar. It's a major step forward as a SKYWARN chaser with the tech available. Satellite wifi at its finest guys. 😊

How do you access browser on the 2018 honda cr-v? It's under Apps in the settings, but when I go to the apps screen I only have calc. apk install and downloads.

Philip Lombardi, My 2018 CR-V EX-L has the Wi-Fi option and I can access my home Wi-Fi as well as my cell phone hot spot. However, my system only has the App Installer, Calculator and Downloads on the APP screen. How do I get a Browser and Search APP or any other APP to display on my screen? Is it possible to upload an APP? If so, can you run me through the process?

Thx Phil very helpful. On a separate note, it is possible to set up on the driver door handle to open all the locks and not just the driver door from the outside door handle? Right now the passenger front door handle opens all the locks.
Yes! Go to settings>vehicle>door/lighting>auto door lock or auto door unlock.

Philip, Is it possible to use the Wifi connectivity to do firmware updates to the radio software? I've found that it occasionally goes south on me, it's locked up about 3 times in the last year... music typically keeps playing, the radio goes dark and eventually it does a hard reboot. I dug around in the menus and it appears to run Linux 4.2.2, which is pretty old. I was wondering if there might be an update to provide better stability. Thanks.

@@ericsail14 No, afraid not Eric. I did take my CR-V into the dealer for a service, and to do a recall (transmission shifter pushbutton can fly apart) and my radio problems pretty much disappeared. It does lock up, but maybe once a year. So I suspect there is an update.
My mom has a 2018 Honda Pilot would this work on it too the wifi were going on a long trip tomorrow and i would like to watch UA-cam and she says she doesn’t have wifi but it says Bluetooth/wifi so I think it does. Does it ?

How do you get to internet with 2018 Accord Touring. Connected to my Iphone8, but my screen has different options than the Civic. Can’t find button to get to web?
It's in the hidden menu. Needs to be unlocked. Just search for unlock browser on Civic.

On android phones it's usually going into the settings app and tapping "build number" multiple times till it says developer options unlocked.

No WIFI only works in newer 2016-2017 and later models that have the capability for wifi

Whats up with the battery of this 2017 Honda civic EXL. It goes dead every time it wants when the car is off and for no reason. Does anybody else have this prob?
I also had that problem. You might putting that car on off, and your supposed to put it on lock.
I had a problem something like that if you are the driver and your headlight are on auto and you stop the car turn the engine off your headlights will stay on until you exit the car so if you are waiting on someone that went in som8ewhere turn your headlights off are get out of the car.

Go into the settings. I can't remember exactly how to get there but just keep digging around in settings. Eventually you will find the settings "app" which is how I learned the infotainment system runs on Android (version 4.x), that's why you can sideload android apps.

Have a 2019 civic sport and I did everything you said but when I got to look at the browser I don't have it, only have app installer, calculator and downloads.
At the top its on the app section the to the left I have widget with no options in it at all do I need to by pass to get browser ? Like a code

Thanks for watching! As long as you have wifi on your phone you can use it to create a local hot spot and use wifi on that screen in your car.
I just restarted phone, can set up as hotspot. car/phone is acting wonky. Will try tomorrow.
I’m having a feeling that’s it’s only cars with Apple car play and android auto that have WiFi. Cause Chevy also does this. I don’t think my Prius has WiFi.
Phil, I just purchased a 2018 Honda Accord Touring Model and no one at my dealership has a clue to display/access/download the web browser you highlighted in your above UA-cam video. Can you tell me how to access it in my 2018 Honda Accord since the browser icon is not displayed anywhere? Or did Honda remove this feature and downgrade the 2018 Accords?

It should. My 1987 had it. I doubt Honda would remove it for MY88

I have it enabled too for my 2017 Honda Civic. It’s nice but I don’t use it as much. I still just go through my phone or iPad lol. Nice to have though.

The 2016 Civic and 2017 Civic have different bumpers so it won't fit.
Helpful video, my issue is, the Carplay icon just for reason went missing from from my 2019 Honda HRV, Sport. I've already restarted the engine multiple time, rebooted my iphone and i am not able to get it back on the screen. Please assist - thank you

I haven't tried it yet, but from what I've seen, you need to get into some secret menus. Hold the brightness, power and phone buttons for a few seconds to get the special menu, then find special function setting>cancel android restrictions. Going to try it later today.

Your WIFI video was great. Question... when you are on the web can you open Google maps and thus have a GPS operating in your car even if your car is not equipped with a GPS?

No because the car doesn't have a GPS antenna. You would have to download offline maps, and the infotainment system has a very small amount of free space (you can even sideload the google maps app because the infotainment system runs on Android). But again without internet and GPS it won't do you any good. Hence why I'd suggest Android Auto or Carplay instead

Yes the usb connection should have nothing to do with the internet. If you are using apple carplay though you will need to be connected and it will override bluetooth.

If I am using My phone with android connect and I use waze navigation , When I come to an area that my phone does not get will I loose the navigation because I am using my Phone through the Car display correct? Or would the Honda's Wifi allow you to continue to use your phone and not use the Cell towers?

WIFI does t seem to work at all, and now as of a few months ago the steering wheel controls don't work with UA-cam Music anymore. Only the volume works ever since I updated my phone's operating system. It's extremely disappointing and irritating.

From Honda's perspective how is this better than having a tablet or laptop with you in the car which is what most business folks have these days? What's the advantage?
If they didn't have their tablet this is a quick fix.
This isn't a feature honda ever advertised or anything. It's simply a side effect of the infotainment system running on Android (version 4.x) so you can sideload and run android apps.

Libera Music wifi will be available in 2018 odyssey and possibly other future Honda's. wifi comes from public source or your phones hotspot in this car

You should still be able to use the voice activated Bluetooth controls at a minimum.

Amazing my $58,000 fully loaded 2018 MDX has a navigation unit from the silent film era, not to mention all the other chintzy, cost cutting that’s visible throughout the vehicle. I hate the fragmentation in the product line, especially when a much lower make gets premium features.
Isn't that crazy? What's your favorite feature on the MDX though?
