My favorite Primearch has to be Sanguinius. He's arguably the strongest of the 18 sons plus he looks like a damn god just like his father.. Plus Sanguinius also has a really cool theory where he kills Horus because of the black rage and the emperor has to kill Sanguinius instead

My favorite Primarch is Jaghatai Khan. Most people think of him as just ''Ghengis Khan in space'' but he's so much more. Besides being a speed freak & mighty warrior, he's also very interested in fine arts like calligraphy & music and has encouraged his sons to embrace them too. Because, we may be savage warriors who love to crush our enemies and see them driven before us, but that doesn't mean that we're uncultured philistines. Also, he's actually one of the most level-headed & reasonable Primarchs. He tried to be diplomatic with the whole psyker issue between Magnus & the other Primarchs. He knew that the Emperor was essentially an absolutist tyrant, but when Horus tried to get him on his side using that argument, he replied: " Yeah sure, our father is basically an immortal intergalactic dictator, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna turn into worshipping demonic entities from a dimension that is essentially hell, basically becoming their slaves. I mean common guys think for second, we´re supposed to be genius demi-gods!" If half his brothers had as much common sense, like the Khan, the whole Horus Heresy would have never happened. Or the way he handled the fact that some of his men went traitor. He basically killed most of the traitors on the spot and then send the last remaining ones who plead for mercy on a suicide mission, where they died in order to create an opening for the rest of the Legion. Compare this to how the Dark Angels handle the Fallen. Oh and he's a great troll & shit-talker too. Fulgrim: "I hear you do weird things with your ships." Jaghatai Khan: ''And I hear you do weird things to your Astartes...." It would be cool if he eventually returns to the setting.
Exactly, he's the only loyalist who stood on that side for a good reason, while not having any illusions about the kind of monster his father was. While it might be hard to personally dislike Sanguinius, Vulkan, Guilliman, the naive fools apparently were truly charmed by the Emperor and honestly believed that pompous narcissistic ahole was humanities saving grace. Khan is much more reasonable this way, he just made a judgement call on what's the lesser evil

In "Mechanicum" it is explained, how he calculated and manipulated millennia of human civilization to come to his goals. So mistakes that would be at least understandable for anyone else, for him are inexcusable. I personally think the short story "The Last Church" does a great job of showing how his mind works. Another character throws the truth about tyranny in his face and what's the only response Emperor gives? "The difference is, I know I'm right". That's the true mind of a fanatic.

The Last Church event is a prime example of him not wanting to be a God, not because of his narcissistc ways but he knew corruption by faith would happen, just like it happened on the Horus Heresy, Chaos would have his way to corrupt faith even on the hearth of those that are good, his own son not only worshipped "good gods" that where Chaos god in disguise but also Big E and was corrupted regardless of him being one of the guys that view him so high.

In fact, there's only so much we can ever know for sure as readers, given how a lot of the "information" we get in the books is nothing more than POV by unreliable narrators and personal interpretations/opinions of characters who are heavily involved on one side or the other, and thus - hardly objective. Once again, just to be clear: I don't doubt the Emperor himself believed his version of future history, nor that he had good reasons to, with his powers of premonition and the ability to calculate hundreds of steps forward. But that doesn't mean we - or any of the characters, for that matter - should automatically buy into his vision and accept it as canon. However godlike, he's still a person, proven to be just as prone to making mistakes as anyone. With the only difference that his errors of judgement inevitably turn catastrophic in scale!
I'd have to say that my favourite two Primarchs are Rogal Dorn and Magnus. This is largely because of their roles in TTS, but also because they are either genuinely good, heroic people who stood side by side with the Emperor against impossible odds during the Imperium's darkest hour in the case of the former, or a tragic figure coerced bit by bit into joining Chaos through the manipulation of their abilities and good intentions by dark forces more powerful and sinister than they could've ever imagined in the case of the latter.
In general, I find the traitor Primarchs more interesting. Horus for his charisma, Lorgar for his fervent quest for the truth, the tragedy of Angron, Magnus for his curiosity, Perty for his rejection of the Chaos Gods whilst not being a loyalist. It's questionable if the Alpha-Legion is truly a traitor legion even. Not a big fan of stinky Morty or Bat-Man wanna-be Konrad, Fulgrim is just a perv. As per the Loyalists, The Lions sons treatment of anyone even seeing a Fallen makes me dislike them, Ferrus... well he's dead, Jag, is just uninteresting to me (probably the most level headed primarch but that doesn't make for good stories), Leman Russ of the Space Furries, Rogal I like but TTS has a LOT to do with that, Sangy just seems 'off' that the angel also = a vampire, G-Man the accountant, Corvus the Emo (barf), & then there's Vulkan who I like but TTS also played bigly into that...... Now come here and give your big brother a big primarch hug friend!

Malcador the Sigilite about killed Horus (pre-Heresy) by force choking him for merely trying to say the name of the Primarch from one of those legions. GW intentionally has left the actual 'reason as to why' unknown to all. Why they did that I can only assume that they wanted to seem edgy, mysterious, & to let people use their own imaginations allowing for homebrew chapters to be made up by players of the table-top game. Once in a while they let an author drop some clues as to what happened to those legions which has led to speculation that they were culled by the Space Wolves & Dark Angels but AFAIK there's no official canon stating as such.
Also made his own Warp nature his bitch without godly assistance, fueled by a combination of sheer rage, stubbornness, and a need to revenge his way out of terminal depression. Iconic.
Should’ve done Horus more justice. He was the Warmaster, the second person in the whole Imperium and His favorite son. Most charismatic out of all primarchs despite them all being very charismatic. Luna Wolves also had more wins than any other legions too Oh, I almost forgot. Fuck Erebus
I have read a lot of Warhammer 40k books the last few months. And I agree, fuck Erebus. And to be honest: Slowly I start to believe that Erebus maybe is much more then just a space marine. I even thougt if he's not a Chaos God himself, hiding very well. He is calling himself the Hand of Destiny and it feels like he is always at the right place at the right time to spread corruption.
That assumes the Emperor actually sees them as sons... In Master of Mankind he very clearly states to Arkham Land that he has no feelings for them, comparing them to Pinocchio.
He was a jealous and double-crossing manipulator even before the Heresy though, as Forge World HH books portray it. However, his superb leadership and charisma have rightly put him on the very top.
The man literally turned evil because he got stabbed with a magic knife and then a random Word Bearers chaplain *who he had literally just caught lying to him like five minutes previously* showed him some LSD visions of a possible future. Magnus even psychically projected himself (at great cost) into Horus' mind to be like "This dude is evil and lying to you," but Horus took the side of the proven liar over his own brother, and then went *so hard* into evil that he tricked Russ into destroying Prospero, killed a bunch of his own sons who he knew would stay loyal, and then orchestrated the Drop Site Massacre. He doesn't deserve more justice TBH.

There should have been at least a 5 page dialogue of Horus talking to himself regarding this supposed future where half his brothers are treated as Gods & the other half erased from history. How he views that this cannot be accepted and how he feels betrayed by his Father the Emperor for hiding this intentions from him. Perhaps also have him lament on the Thunder Warriors to make the comparison to the Astartes as he slowly comes to his conclusion that Erebus, while even shown to be deceitful to Horus, may be the one telling the truth (which he was actually, just not showing it to Horus to PREVENT it from happening, but to ENSURE it) Then flesh out to much greater detail how he slips into Chaos instead of that huge leap of character from the 2nd to 3rd novel.

Vulkan for loyal space marines. Magnus for Chaos. #2 loyal would be leon Johnson and #2 chaos would be Fulgrim. The salamanders are one of the only forces of good in 40K and have a pension for fire and the Thousand Sons are Egyptian space wizards that do a good job blending chaos marines with magic.
Magnus, Angron and Mortarion are really the most tragic of all the Primarchs, Magnus, cuz he actually tried to help, but Leman and Magnus' beef pushed him to Chaos, Angron, because he, along with Corvusz understood the wrongness of tyranny and was forever scared and broken because of it, only to see all the ever cared for die, because his father wanted to use him as a tool. Mortarion, because he STILL hates the warp but is unable to fight his god, and understandably hates Typhus for bringing him and his son's to such lows, yet whose souls still is untainted with his scythe showing that even though he fights for a cause he loathes, a part of him will never truly kneel to it, as his final spit in the face of chaos and nurgle. Honestly those are the best traitors primarchs, for the loyalists, Corvus, Jaghatai, and Vulkan for all being the absolute most reasonable and just of the loyalists. Corvus told the Emperor if he betrayed humanity and shit, he'd rebel and kill him, to his fucking face. Dude hated tyrants but also hated evil, so no chance that Chaos would be something he'd side with. Vulkan for being the only Primarch to truly love not just Humanity, but the humans of it. Flawed for slaughtering followers of xenos who were saved by said xenos, to which, he would later regret, so whilst zealous, capable of understanding what to regret and try to do better. Jaghatai.... The only one that wasn't fucking retarded, like honestly he genuinely did Intel gathering during the Horus Heresy to figure out which side we're actually fighting for a better future for humanity and not just their end goals. Eventually figuring yeah, Emperor is far bigger of a prick than he thought, but understandably so seeing what he has been facing all along, the forces of Chaos. And actually thought of things and wasn't blinded by prejudice or honor or pride. He stick to what he agrees to, call bullshit out when it happens, gets shit done without a damn about honor or bragging, and just tried to do what was best for humanity, and didn't let himself get blinded by prejudice towards psykers or unusual mortal abraces in the Imperium. Honestly considering his family, I would also fuck off to the farthest reaches of space to get shit done and not have to bother with my objectively batshit insane family and their solar system sized egos and fuck weird traditions and etiquette. Truly the most sensible of the primarchs. And some of the best drip of 30k.

“Amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics,” and Gulliman is the master of the second (not half bad at the first either, but many of his brothers are better). He’ll always be the favorite, damn good administrator… for the Primarchs. Honorable mention is Dorn, and second favorite would be Vulcan.
I’m a sucker for Lionel. A distinguished tactician and strategist. I think even he recognized that the galaxy was too small for so many demi gods, and at one point the chips would have to go down.
Love your choice sir and VERY close to mine with similar reasons. I love Ferrus Manus the best because he’s the most rebellious of the loyalists, but still loves the emperor. He also is now with the Legion of the Damned making him Ghost Rider Iron Dad.
My favorite are number 2 and 11. They just have such a deep lore yet still are mysterious enough to keep me captivated. But honestly, it's because I love custom chapters and custom primarchs mean I can give my custom chapters any flaw or focus I want and still technically be canon. Except it isn't because any knowledge of them is lost, redacted, or suppressed. I am Alpharius.
Vulkan and the Salamanders have always been my favorite legion for their style, tactics, and character. They also have some of the greatest battles in their lore and are honestly much more interesting, to me, to watch interact with the greater imperium and xenos threats around them, given their more humanitarian views and ideals, but also their brutal nature in combat. Plus, dragons are cool, and the idea of dragon slaying just being the TRAINING EXERCISE for them is ridiculously badass.
Everyone is picking all the fun Primarchs but my boy Papa Smurf, aka Roboute Guilliman doesn't get the respect he deserves. The man literally put together an entire empire within the imperium of man, and has been cobbling together the Imperium at large at every turn. Sure he's not as good at any of the thematic strengths of the other primarchs, but from the perspective of a regular human (outside of Vulkan's/Salamanders' save-a-villager approach): Who is the one still around, working ceaselessly to keep a semblance of safety and stability for mankind? He is the best at nothing but #2 at everything kind of guy. Jack of all trades, the hero mankind needs. The man handles his own in duels vs his brothers, even 2 on one. Has an eldari death goddess waifu, survives chaos inflicted wounds, built the arguably most prolific astartes legion, is not his father's favorite (Horus) but IS the one that's chosen after everything is said and done. P.S. Did I mention he's the only dad that actually comes back after going out to get some milk?
i think Guilliman's problem is he's the only sane man in a universe of the insane, which makes him boring in the grimdark hilarity of 40k. In real life? im backing that guy 100%. Reading a book? miss me with that vanilla good guy stuff.

Mainly because it was 12 year old me randomly coming across the "Space Wolf" novel in my local library some 19 years ago, looking at the cover/reading the transcript and thinking "shit looks dope, I'm gonna read it", that opened the world of warhammer to me. Been hooked ever since.
Mine is Lion el Johnson he's a badass but he doesn't need claws or a big hammer he's just good at what he does he's super strategic more than likely better than Gilman I also like the betrayal from his best friend it also doesn't help that I'm painting a dark Angel's army lol
funny enough i like perturabo both on Horus Heresy and Roboutilian Heresy. HH Pert showed that had he have given a chance and not thrown in dredge work all the time he could produce massive results (just ask the Imperial Fists) meanwhile on RH Perturabo is one of the awesome characters there. it showed if he showed responsibility and maturity, he is one of the favored sons. oh and those Iron Cages killing those blasted Chaos Marines everyday.
Lion L'Jonson and Jaghatai Khan are my favorites. I like the Lion's undying loyalty and unlike that crybaby Perturabo, doesnt require validation. Jaghatai I like because he's an independent thinker and a free spirit.
Conrad Kurze is my personal favorite. Such a unique character. Equal parts pure evil and weirdly selfless empathy. The only primarch with no adopted family, he was literally raised by the streets. An absolute nightmare to fight against, but not motivated by rage like Angron or joy of battle like Russ or Khan. Just an inhuman being with unfathomable goals and motivations who seems to understand things deeper than any of his fellows. He reminds me of the Logen Ninefingers character from the First Law series mixed with Rorschach from Watchmen
Not a lot of love for my boy Leman Russ in these comments, so I'll give a shout out (howl) to the wolf! He was grim and jovial in turns, and led his legion by example to strike a balance with their gene flaw.
I'm ok with my local Primark, or any really. They usually have plenty of selection and decent prices. Although, I wouldn't buy shoes from there, my last one lasted only 4 months of heavy use.
I just love Perturabo. I think he's completely badass in Angel Exterminatus and he gives me an outlet for the many resentments I have about life. But in real life, I think I identify with Sanguinius more. He was my first point of contact with 40k. But the IW are my favorite to paint and collect.
I can certainly sympathize with him. All he wanted was to build, create and be praised for his work. Instead all he got were constant assignments to destroy and slog through the mud and lay sieges. I can sympathize with finding passion in something yet having to do something else because you’re good at it and it pays the bills
My top 3 are Perty and Konrad because they feel like two primarchs who had actually understandable reasons for turning on the Imperium and the Emperor and Alpharius because I love how much of a meme tge Alpha Legion is.
Space Caesar Captain America is up there with "...is Jesus if his children were vampires" for what made me laugh hardest. This was amazing. Magnus also has a bit of Odin about him - only one eye and a love of knowledge and magic
Honestly i like the idea they're from a tube more than from a single mother who was also a perpetual who made a deal with the chaos gods. Mainly cause the idea in my head would be that The Emperor, in his quest to perfect humanity and bring them to conquer the galaxy, would have gone around terra either stockpiling genetic material to creature his sons in a series of failed experiments until he got the magic formula OR found what he would have considered to be the peak of current humanity woman (at the time) and created his songs from their eggs. It would also, again this is to me, show someone what lf his cold love for humanity in how he could have gone through that process, either secretly through regular medical examinations to take their eggs or openly through careful seduction before leaving them in the dirty to further his goal. But again thats just my take on it. Love the videos man. Keep it up 👍

Angron is the best, he is the very definition of grim dark, forced to murder his adopted father Onimais, his potential ripped from his body and his soul because of the butcher’s nails, leading a slave rebellion not because he felt like taken over a world but because he wanted to free his fellow slaves, then openly defying the emperor when asked to abandon his army, forced to live as a ghost to fight for the emperor, now he is a demon primarch rage incarcerated
Ideas for Primarch 2 and 11: Primarch #2 grew up on a jungle planet raised by Australopithecus who is a Tarzan/Rambo and likes to wear leopard skin. He also recruited the indigenous apes into his ranks as Space Marines. His legions is the Jaguar Dawn. Primarch #11 is basically a Captain Ahab/Captain Nemo who grew up on an ocean planet filled with sea monsters, adopted by a King and Queen. In his late 20s he was saved from drowning by a Nereid(mermaid) and has been searching the planet's oceans to find her ever since. He loves her so much, he would do anything to find her(even if it means giving into the powers of Chaos). He and his legion basically end up like Davy Jones and his crew. His legion is the Siren's Songs.
Sanguinius will always be awesome, but I thing the khan and vulkan are my 2 faves. I love the speedy white scars and the salamanders whole fire thing is just awesome.
Yup! The 20th Legion has twin Primarchs. They are smaller than the other primarchs, but the astartes of the 20th are bigger - making all of the Alpha Legion about the same size. Alpharius and Omegon could actually both be alive and hiding amongst the ranks of their sons.
the lion hands down best primarch. it's the only loyalist primarch that Horus went out of his way to not face. Horus wasnt scared of sanguinius, robut, or even the emperor. he was, however, scared enough of the dark angels to send them so far away they could never reach tera in time to lift the siege, AND he sacrificed the nighlords to keep him there. the lion was the only tactician that Horus knew he couldnt best.
I like those three: - Perturabo - cool name, technichal geek, leads the real war battle (with, dirt, blood and depression) Not merry adventures like others - Conrad Curze - the real Bad ass, Who had nuts to decide to be killed, the real independent and smart guy Who made three best primarchs look like helpless fools. Also he's a Good PvP duelist - Ferrus Manus - tough and brutal badass, uses tanks and explosion, has a cool augmented legion (although he doesn't like it), keeps his planet in an endless civil war between clans in Order to prevent them becoming pussies
Lemme fix these; Perty - A paranoid pissbaby whose constantly buttmad that he's living in Dorn's shadow. The Birdman who Laughs - An actual schizo who decided that life wasn't worth it and that people who break laws are to die screaming, or serve as his personal plaything. (He once made a statue out of people who were still alive) Iron Hands - A naive guy who, despite being a badass who fought a space dragon, couldn't see that his twink brother had gone full demon despite being 2 feet from his face.

Hi still relatively new to the Warhammer universe but I prefer the humanitarian/protector of the little guy mentality so I see myself as either being Salamander or Raven Guard. Personally Raven Guard because you just can't beat a better description than "Batman-Captain America with a little bit of The Crow mixed in there."

I am going to disregard the playstyle of Chapters and simply admit: Roboute Guilliman is my favorite. What can i say, I guess I need at least a sliver of light. And Ultrasmurfs are, honestly, awesome. (I like the colors of iFists or Alpha the best though) (I also quite like Magnus the Red and 1000 Sons) (so: Loyalists: Ultra > iFist > Salamander ; Chaos: 1000 >= Alpha > KWE) Courage and Honor!
After Ferrus' fight and decapitation by Fulgrim, Vulkan is now accepted to be head-and-shoulders the largest Primarch Unless Magnus feels like being big OR if Daemon Angron has to face Lionel Johnson.
0:31 I'd argue that Caliban was inspired primarily by judaic and biblical motives (the names of the most space marines in the early lore suggest that). The Old English/Arthurian veneer was added later, circa 2011-2012 with the publishing of Savage Weapons and The Lion (novella), where characters like Corswain were introduced and developed. This might have been caused by the change of DA writers from Scanlon and Lee to Gav Thorpe, or maybe Alan Bligh came up with an idea of a revamp after the first HH Dark Angel novels bombed. Whatever the reason may be, this adds an interesting eclectic twist to their culture, that's for sure.
Recently I got back into 40k with the 10th edition rules coming out. I used to run generic Chaos Marines and Tyranids. The more I looked at lore the more I liked Lion and Magnus. More specifically I enjoyed Magnus's journey and that he really didn't think anything he was doing was wrong due to the influence of the Chaos Gods (namely Tzeentch) and then turning into a super demon because of it. Lion's Dark Angels are just interesting because they're so zealously honorable. They want to find and either kill the ones that aren't apart of their legion as they're supposed to be because they're traitors to them. Lion is kind of a bit more of a foil and guidepost for them instead of them running wild and going full Inquisition on people.
Upon learning about other primarch, I thought Ferrus Manus was actually good. But sad to see him get decapitated as if he wasn't able to fight fairly. On my list, I think Corax sits at first since he and I are not so different (in invisibility of course). Next is Sanguinius, an angelic figure that is literally badass during horus heresy and outplayed Angron. Still mad at how he was mutilated by Horus during their fight and how the Emperor wouldn't immediately take down Horus. Lastly is either Vulkan cuz he's such an emotional and loving primarch that would help others and gets constantly get revived. It's crazy how he is still missing to this day and assumingly Trazyn may have probably put him on a stasis. If not Vulkan, I'd say Rogal Dorn is my least favorite as to how this man defended the Palace during Horus Heresy.
Primarch 2 is a man who became so zealous that he would have been considered to put logar to shame due to his pious actions. Never turning to chaos, but bonding with magnus the red and his pysker abilities in order to better combat the demons of the void to better serve his father constant disobedience of dabbling in the eye of terror to test one's abilities while exposure to the warp of his chapter wasn't taken seriously. Corruption of his marines did slowly but surely begin to show obvious turning of behaviors. Friending banter turned to argument....comradery turned to competition and when it was forced upon him to eventually and personally kill all of the sons in his chapter. Each one told to be dismissed in original or alternate ways . All but 12 remained...it was said that a different space marine vocational purpose was born, but not as a chapter with a primarch whom was banished with his own crusade to fight and never stop till death or enemy take him. They would be reintroduced during the horus heresy as you know them as the grey knights. Why their number ironically 666, if this is a holy order to the imperium? To never forget that their holy brotherhood was crowned on the tarnished beginnings of their father, primarch and dead chapter brothers due to honorable intended demon fighting that will forever struggle throughout eons and till the end of time...unless the 4 lay banished at their silver feet
6:41 Its important to clarify that Salamander skin tone is a feature of theirs that stems entirely from the conditions of the planet they live on. They Are not ‘Ethnically Black’ as their skin tone is described as charcoal as a result of their exposure to the conditions on the planet they are on. The image used to depict a salamander is more akin to an ethnic African American. Other Salamander pictures ive seen more accurately show a charcoal black skin colour as opposed to just a brown African American appearance which is completely incorrect.
Konrad Curze obviously. He doesn't get enough love even though he was a prophet that could see the future and pacified an entire world through fear via torture and mutilation. Also his legion, though traitor, has been kept mostly mutation and demon free throughout the millenia.
Favorite's Rogal Dorn. I played Horus Heresy Legions and my favorite playstyle was the Imperial Fists. Also, the man himself is pretty hot, all things considered.
One quick correction: Horus remembered tbe 2nd and/or the eleventh before he turned traitor, as he was going to say their names before malcador used psychic power to shut him up
Fulgrim is my favourite because he got done dirty by the writers and I am massively looking forward to the battle between chaos fulgrim and clone-grim when it finally happens. I like the thought of there being an opportunity to bring another primarch back into the fold.
I like Fulgrim because he acts as a reflection of Sanguinius' natural perfection. Where Sanguinius was simply born "best of men" Fulgrim had to work to achieve the love of the people of chemos. He also conquered his planet without bloodshed.
For loyalists, Guilliman, I don't know why.
For traitors, Mortarion because of his design aesthetics.

My favorite Primarch is Jaghatai Khan.
Most people think of him as just ''Ghengis Khan in space'' but he's so much more.
Besides being a speed freak & mighty warrior, he's also very interested in fine arts like calligraphy & music and has encouraged his sons to embrace them too. Because, we may be savage warriors who love to crush our enemies and see them driven before us, but that doesn't mean that we're uncultured philistines.
Also, he's actually one of the most level-headed & reasonable Primarchs. He tried to be diplomatic with the whole psyker issue between Magnus & the other Primarchs.
He knew that the Emperor was essentially an absolutist tyrant, but when Horus tried to get him on his side using that argument, he replied: " Yeah sure, our father is basically an immortal intergalactic dictator, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna turn into worshipping demonic entities from a dimension that is essentially hell, basically becoming their slaves. I mean common guys think for second, we´re supposed to be genius demi-gods!"
If half his brothers had as much common sense, like the Khan, the whole Horus Heresy would have never happened. Or the way he handled the fact that some of his men went traitor.
He basically killed most of the traitors on the spot and then send the last remaining ones who plead for mercy on a suicide mission, where they died in order to create an opening for the rest of the Legion. Compare this to how the Dark Angels handle the Fallen.

While it might be hard to personally dislike Sanguinius, Vulkan, Guilliman, the naive fools apparently were truly charmed by the Emperor and honestly believed that pompous narcissistic ahole was humanities saving grace. Here's the difference though: unlike petty mortals, Big E is a godlike being with something approaching omni-knowledge. In "Mechanicum" it is explained, how he calculated and manipulated millennia of human civilization to come to his goals. So mistakes that would be at least understandable for anyone else, for him are inexcusable. I personally think the short story "The Last Church" does a great job of showing how his mind works. Another character throws the truth about tyranny in his face and what's the only response Emperor gives? "The difference is, I know I'm right". That's the true mind of a fanatic.

I don't think that's true at all, actually. In fact, there's only so much we can ever know for sure as readers, given how a lot of the "information" we get in the books is nothing more than POV by unreliable narrators and personal interpretations/opinions of characters who are heavily involved on one side or the other, and thus - hardly objective. Once again, just to be clear: I don't doubt the Emperor himself believed his version of future history, nor that he had good reasons to, with his powers of premonition and the ability to calculate hundreds of steps forward. But that doesn't mean we - or any of the characters, for that matter - should automatically buy into his vision and accept it as canon. However godlike, he's still a person, proven to be just as prone to making mistakes as anyone. With the only difference that his errors of judgement inevitably turn catastrophic in scale!
I'd have to say that my favourite two Primarchs are Rogal Dorn and Magnus. This is largely because of their roles in TTS, but also because they are either genuinely good, heroic people who stood side by side with the Emperor against impossible odds during the Imperium's darkest hour in the case of the former, or a tragic figure coerced bit by bit into joining Chaos through the manipulation of their abilities and good intentions by dark forces more powerful and sinister than they could've ever imagined in the case of the latter.
Very good and well thought out choices. Personally I like Ferrus Manus because Tough and also ghost rider Primarch.
TTS Magnus is my favorite character
In general, I find the traitor Primarchs more interesting.
Horus for his charisma, Lorgar for his fervent quest for the truth, the tragedy of Angron, Magnus for his curiosity, Perty for his rejection of the Chaos Gods whilst not being a loyalist. It's questionable if the Alpha-Legion is truly a traitor legion even. Not a big fan of stinky Morty or Bat-Man wanna-be Konrad, Fulgrim is just a perv.
As per the Loyalists, The Lions sons treatment of anyone even seeing a Fallen makes me dislike them, Ferrus... well he's dead, Jag, is just uninteresting to me (probably the most level headed primarch but that doesn't make for good stories), Leman Russ of the Space Furries, Rogal I like but TTS has a LOT to do with that, Sangy just seems 'off' that the angel also = a vampire, G-Man the accountant, Corvus the Emo (barf), & then there's Vulkan who I like but TTS also played bigly into that...... Now come here and give your big brother a big primarch hug friend!

Malcador the Sigilite about killed Horus (pre-Heresy) by force choking him for merely trying to say the name of the Primarch from one of those legions.
GW intentionally has left the actual 'reason as to why' unknown to all.
Why they did that I can only assume that they wanted to seem edgy, mysterious, & to let people use their own imaginations allowing for homebrew chapters to be made up by players of the table-top game.
Once in a while they let an author drop some clues as to what happened to those legions which has led to speculation that they were culled by the Space Wolves & Dark Angels but AFAIK there's no official canon stating as such.

Favorite Primarch is probably Rogal Dorn due to the Black Templars and his distaste for the Officio Assassinorum.

I have read a lot of Warhammer 40k books the last few months. And I agree, fuck Erebus. And to be honest: Slowly I start to believe that Erebus maybe is much more then just a space marine. I even thougt if he's not a Chaos God himself, hiding very well. He is calling himself the Hand of Destiny and it feels like he is always at the right place at the right time to spread corruption.
That assumes the Emperor actually sees them as sons... In Master of Mankind he very clearly states to Arkham Land that he has no feelings for them, comparing them to Pinocchio.
He was a jealous and double-crossing manipulator even before the Heresy though, as Forge World HH books portray it. However, his superb leadership and charisma have rightly put him on the very top.
The man literally turned evil because he got stabbed with a magic knife and then a random Word Bearers chaplain *who he had literally just caught lying to him like five minutes previously* showed him some LSD visions of a possible future.
Magnus even psychically projected himself (at great cost) into Horus' mind to be like "This dude is evil and lying to you," but Horus took the side of the proven liar over his own brother, and then went *so hard* into evil that he tricked Russ into destroying Prospero, killed a bunch of his own sons who he knew would stay loyal, and then orchestrated the Drop Site Massacre.
He doesn't deserve more justice TBH.

justice from the author as to WHY he chose to believe Erebus over his own brother Magnus in that situation. There should have been at least a 5 page dialogue of Horus talking to himself regarding this supposed future where half his brothers are treated as Gods & the other half erased from history. How he views that this cannot be accepted and how he feels betrayed by his Father the Emperor for hiding this intentions from him. Perhaps also have him lament on the Thunder Warriors to make the comparison to the Astartes as he slowly comes to his conclusion that Erebus, while even shown to be deceitful to Horus, may be the one telling the truth (which he was actually, just not showing it to Horus to PREVENT it from happening, but to ENSURE it)
Then flesh out to much greater detail how he slips into Chaos instead of that huge leap of character from the 2nd to 3rd novel.

Vulkan for loyal space marines. Magnus for Chaos. #2 loyal would be leon Johnson and #2 chaos would be Fulgrim. The salamanders are one of the only forces of good in 40K and have a pension for fire and the Thousand Sons are Egyptian space wizards that do a good job blending chaos marines with magic.

Fave Primarch has to be Angron. His path is tragedy after tragedy, and so excruciatingly close to going a different path.
Magnus, Angron and Mortarion are really the most tragic of all the Primarchs, Magnus, cuz he actually tried to help, but Leman and Magnus' beef pushed him to Chaos, Angron, because he, along with Corvusz understood the wrongness of tyranny and was forever scared and broken because of it, only to see all the ever cared for die, because his father wanted to use him as a tool.
Mortarion, because he STILL hates the warp but is unable to fight his god, and understandably hates Typhus for bringing him and his son's to such lows, yet whose souls still is untainted with his scythe showing that even though he fights for a cause he loathes, a part of him will never truly kneel to it, as his final spit in the face of chaos and nurgle.
Honestly those are the best traitors primarchs, for the loyalists, Corvus, Jaghatai, and Vulkan for all being the absolute most reasonable and just of the loyalists.
Corvus told the Emperor if he betrayed humanity and shit, he'd rebel and kill him, to his fucking face.
Dude hated tyrants but also hated evil, so no chance that Chaos would be something he'd side with.
Vulkan for being the only Primarch to truly love not just Humanity, but the humans of it.
Flawed for slaughtering followers of xenos who were saved by said xenos, to which, he would later regret, so whilst zealous, capable of understanding what to regret and try to do better.

The only one that wasn't fucking retarded, like honestly he genuinely did Intel gathering during the Horus Heresy to figure out which side we're actually fighting for a better future for humanity and not just their end goals.

He’ll always be the favorite, damn good administrator… for the Primarchs. Honorable mention is Dorn, and second favorite would be Vulcan.
I’m a sucker for Lionel. A distinguished tactician and strategist. I think even he recognized that the galaxy was too small for so many demi gods, and at one point the chips would have to go down.
Perturabo. I love his style and he feels like the least chaos traitor primarch.
Love your choice sir and VERY close to mine with similar reasons. I love Ferrus Manus the best because he’s the most rebellious of the loyalists, but still loves the emperor. He also is now with the Legion of the Damned making him Ghost Rider Iron Dad.
My favorite are number 2 and 11. They just have such a deep lore yet still are mysterious enough to keep me captivated.
But honestly, it's because I love custom chapters and custom primarchs mean I can give my custom chapters any flaw or focus I want and still technically be canon.

I am Alpharius.
Vulkan and the Salamanders have always been my favorite legion for their style, tactics, and character. They also have some of the greatest battles in their lore and are honestly much more interesting, to me, to watch interact with the greater imperium and xenos threats around them, given their more humanitarian views and ideals, but also their brutal nature in combat. Plus, dragons are cool, and the idea of dragon slaying just being the TRAINING EXERCISE for them is ridiculously badass.
Everyone is picking all the fun Primarchs but my boy Papa Smurf, aka Roboute Guilliman doesn't get the respect he deserves.
The man literally put together an entire empire within the imperium of man, and has been cobbling together the Imperium at large at every turn. Sure he's not as good at any of the thematic strengths of the other primarchs, but from the perspective of a regular human (outside of Vulkan's/Salamanders' save-a-villager approach): Who is the one still around, working ceaselessly to keep a semblance of safety and stability for mankind?
He is the best at nothing but #2 at everything kind of guy. Jack of all trades, the hero mankind needs.
The man handles his own in duels vs his brothers, even 2 on one. Has an eldari death goddess waifu, survives chaos inflicted wounds, built the arguably most prolific astartes legion, is not his father's favorite (Horus) but IS the one that's chosen after everything is said and done.

Lion L'Jonson and Jaghatai Khan are my favorites. I like the Lion's undying loyalty and unlike that crybaby Perturabo, doesnt require validation. Jaghatai I like because he's an independent thinker and a free spirit.
Conrad Kurze is my personal favorite. Such a unique character. Equal parts pure evil and weirdly selfless empathy. The only primarch with no adopted family, he was literally raised by the streets. An absolute nightmare to fight against, but not motivated by rage like Angron or joy of battle like Russ or Khan. Just an inhuman being with unfathomable goals and motivations who seems to understand things deeper than any of his fellows. He reminds me of the Logen Ninefingers character from the First Law series mixed with Rorschach from Watchmen
Not a lot of love for my boy Leman Russ in these comments, so I'll give a shout out (howl) to the wolf! He was grim and jovial in turns, and led his legion by example to strike a balance with their gene flaw.
I'm ok with my local Primark, or any really. They usually have plenty of selection and decent prices. Although, I wouldn't buy shoes from there, my last one lasted only 4 months of heavy use.
I just love Perturabo. I think he's completely badass in Angel Exterminatus and he gives me an outlet for the many resentments I have about life. But in real life, I think I identify with Sanguinius more. He was my first point of contact with 40k. But the IW are my favorite to paint and collect.
I can certainly sympathize with him. All he wanted was to build, create and be praised for his work. Instead all he got were constant assignments to destroy and slog through the mud and lay sieges. I can sympathize with finding passion in something yet having to do something else because you’re good at it and it pays the bills
My top 3 are Perty and Konrad because they feel like two primarchs who had actually understandable reasons for turning on the Imperium and the Emperor and Alpharius because I love how much of a meme tge Alpha Legion is.
Space Caesar Captain America is up there with "...is Jesus if his children were vampires" for what made me laugh hardest. This was amazing.

Honestly i like the idea they're from a tube more than from a single mother who was also a perpetual who made a deal with the chaos gods.
Mainly cause the idea in my head would be that The Emperor, in his quest to perfect humanity and bring them to conquer the galaxy, would have gone around terra either stockpiling genetic material to creature his sons in a series of failed experiments until he got the magic formula OR found what he would have considered to be the peak of current humanity woman (at the time) and created his songs from their eggs.
It would also, again this is to me, show someone what lf his cold love for humanity in how he could have gone through that process, either secretly through regular medical examinations to take their eggs or openly through careful seduction before leaving them in the dirty to further his goal.
But again thats just my take on it. Love the videos man. Keep it up 👍

Ideas for Primarch 2 and 11:
Primarch #2 grew up on a jungle planet raised by Australopithecus who is a Tarzan/Rambo and likes to wear leopard skin. He also recruited the indigenous apes into his ranks as Space Marines.
His legions is the Jaguar Dawn.
Primarch #11 is basically a Captain Ahab/Captain Nemo who grew up on an ocean planet filled with sea monsters, adopted by a King and Queen. Yup! The 20th Legion has twin Primarchs. They are smaller than the other primarchs, but the astartes of the 20th are bigger - making all of the Alpha Legion about the same size.
Alpharius and Omegon could actually both be alive and hiding amongst the ranks of their sons.

the lion hands down best primarch. it's the only loyalist primarch that Horus went out of his way to not face. Horus wasnt scared of sanguinius, robut, or even the emperor. he was, however, scared enough of the dark angels to send them so far away they could never reach tera in time to lift the siege, AND he sacrificed the nighlords to keep him there. the lion was the only tactician that Horus knew he couldnt best.

I like those three:
- Perturabo - cool name, technichal geek, leads the real war battle (with, dirt, blood and depression) Not merry adventures like others
- Conrad Curze - the real Bad ass, Who had nuts to decide to be killed, the real independent and smart guy Who made three best primarchs look like helpless fools. Also he's a Good PvP duelist
- Ferrus Manus - tough and brutal badass, uses tanks and explosion, has a cool augmented legion (although he doesn't like it), keeps his planet in an endless civil war between clans in Order to prevent them becoming pussies
Lemme fix these;
Perty - A paranoid pissbaby whose constantly buttmad that he's living in Dorn's shadow.
The Birdman who Laughs - An actual schizo who decided that life wasn't worth it and that people who break laws are to die screaming, or serve as his personal plaything. (He once made a statue out of people who were still alive)
Iron Hands - A naive guy who, despite being a badass who fought a space dragon, couldn't see that his twink brother had gone full demon despite being 2 feet from his face.
Sanguinius is my Primarch.
Roboute Guilliman is my favourite. He has a functioning brain not like most of his brothers. :D

Deep,I don't know what the hell is going on. The style ,incredible artwork,amazing cgi and great music has captured my fascination.
Hi still relatively new to the Warhammer universe but I prefer the humanitarian/protector of the little guy mentality so I see myself as either being Salamander or Raven Guard. Personally Raven Guard because you just can't beat a better description than "Batman-Captain America with a little bit of The Crow mixed in there."
Lorgar did not just convert to Chaos, he started (with the twisted Erebus and his mentor ) the great heresy !
I imagine Nurgle and Tzeentch having a discussion... Nurgle's hand is reaching behind his head, a zipper sound is heard and before Tzeentch Alpharius appears!
I am going to disregard the playstyle of Chapters and simply admit: Roboute Guilliman is my favorite. What can i say, I guess I need at least a sliver of light. And Ultrasmurfs are, honestly, awesome. (I like the colors of iFists or Alpha the best though) (I also quite like Magnus the Red and 1000 Sons) (so: Loyalists: Ultra > iFist > Salamander ; Chaos: 1000 >= Alpha > KWE)

0:31 I'd argue that Caliban was inspired primarily by judaic and biblical motives (the names of the most space marines in the early lore suggest that). The Old English/Arthurian veneer was added later, circa 2011-2012 with the publishing of Savage Weapons and The Lion (novella), where characters like Corswain were introduced and developed. This might have been caused by the change of DA writers from Scanlon and Lee to Gav Thorpe, or maybe Alan Bligh came up with an idea of a revamp after the first HH Dark Angel novels bombed.
Whatever the reason may be, this adds an interesting eclectic twist to their culture, that's for sure.

Recently I got back into 40k with the 10th edition rules coming out. I used to run generic Chaos Marines and Tyranids. The more I looked at lore the more I liked Lion and Magnus. More specifically I enjoyed Magnus's journey and that he really didn't think anything he was doing was wrong due to the influence of the Chaos Gods (namely Tzeentch) and then turning into a super demon because of it. Lion's Dark Angels are just interesting because they're so zealously honorable. They want to find and either kill the ones that aren't apart of their legion as they're supposed to be because they're traitors to them. Lion is kind of a bit more of a foil and guidepost for them instead of them running wild and going full Inquisition on people.

Upon learning about other primarch, I thought Ferrus Manus was actually good. But sad to see him get decapitated as if he wasn't able to fight fairly. On my list, I think Corax sits at first since he and I are not so different (in invisibility of course). Next is Sanguinius, an angelic figure that is literally badass during horus heresy and outplayed Angron. Still mad at how he was mutilated by Horus during their fight and how the Emperor wouldn't immediately take down Horus. Lastly is either Vulkan cuz he's such an emotional and loving primarch that would help others and gets constantly get revived. It's crazy how he is still missing to this day and assumingly Trazyn may have probably put him on a stasis. If not Vulkan, I'd say Rogal Dorn is my least favorite as to how this man defended the Palace during Horus Heresy.
Primarch 2 is a man who became so zealous that he would have been considered to put logar to shame due to his pious actions. Never turning to chaos, but bonding with magnus the red and his pysker abilities in order to better combat the demons of the void to better serve his father constant disobedience of dabbling in the eye of terror to test one's abilities while exposure to the warp of his chapter wasn't taken seriously. Corruption of his marines did slowly but surely begin to show obvious turning of behaviors. Friending banter turned to argument....comradery turned to competition and when it was forced upon him to eventually and personally kill all of the sons in his chapter. Each one told to be dismissed in original or alternate ways . All but 12 remained...it was said that a different space marine vocational purpose was born, but not as a chapter with a primarch whom was banished with his own crusade to fight and never stop till death or enemy take him. They would be reintroduced during the horus heresy as you know them as the grey knights. Why their number ironically 666, if this is a holy order to the imperium? To never forget that their holy brotherhood was crowned on the tarnished beginnings of their father, primarch and dead chapter brothers due to honorable intended demon fighting that will forever struggle throughout eons and till the end of time...unless the 4 lay banished at their silver feet

Angron is my favourite simply because everyone seems to hate him and I love rooting for the unpopular choice. Also I like Spartacus.

6:41 Its important to clarify that Salamander skin tone is a feature of theirs that stems entirely from the conditions of the planet they live on. They Are not ‘Ethnically Black’ as their skin tone is described as charcoal as a result of their exposure to the conditions on the planet they are on. The image used to depict a salamander is more akin to an ethnic African American. Other Salamander pictures ive seen more accurately show a charcoal black skin colour as opposed to just a brown African American appearance which is completely incorrect.
Konrad Curze obviously. He doesn't get enough love even though he was a prophet that could see the future and pacified an entire world through fear via torture and mutilation. Also his legion, though traitor, has been kept mostly mutation and demon free throughout the millenia.

Favorite's Rogal Dorn. I played Horus Heresy Legions and my favorite playstyle was the Imperial Fists. Also, the man himself is pretty hot, all things considered.
One quick correction: Horus remembered tbe 2nd and/or the eleventh before he turned traitor, as he was going to say their names before malcador used psychic power to shut him up

Fulgrim is my favourite because he got done dirty by the writers and I am massively looking forward to the battle between chaos fulgrim and clone-grim when it finally happens. I like the thought of there being an opportunity to bring another primarch back into the fold.

I like Fulgrim because he acts as a reflection of Sanguinius' natural perfection. Where Sanguinius was simply born "best of men" Fulgrim had to work to achieve the love of the people of chemos. He also conquered his planet without bloodshed.
