Cortosis is also super brittle and a terrible material for armour if you aren't facing lightsabers. Which is why Jecki was able to break the helmet so easily.
its all fun and games untill one sith or a Jedi wookiee head butts you and the helmet just falls apart like lego
I also figured that the armor wasn’t made very well meaning that while it could still short out a saber due to the natural properties of Cortosis, the lack of refinement reduced the durability of the armor.
You could just get some better armor and cover it in cortosis. That would probably work.
That would mean less cortosis that can be shaved off@Anaxxis
I’m pretty sure Cortosis has been depicted as one of the hardest to break, with the only thing being able to stand close is Beskar. Cortosis in FFG is immune to Breach and Pierce qualities. I know it’s just a rpg but for a table top rpg there are a lot of things that system gets correct. If Cortosis was so brittle than how is a lightsaber able to stand against it. Why don’t cortosis swords just snap by a lightsaber cut before it shorts out?
It was also featured heavily in the Jedi Outcast game
god I hated those troopers, such a lightsaber sponge.
@@SabreKen the Shadow Troopers
As well as Star Wars Obi Wan for the xbox.
And it's even used as a cheat code for the Force Unleashed game too.
It's basically plot armour lol
I immediately knew that qimirs helmet and arm braces were cortosis when the lightsabers were shorting out. I'm glad Disney did this.
And we never see this brought up in the Star Wars timeline because...? It seems pretty useful to give to Jedi if they're dealing with lightsaber-wielding opponents.
But they weren't always dealing with lightsaber wielding opponents most of the time the Jedi dealt with b-1 battle droids and cortosis is only good for lightsabers otherwise it's weak and very easy to break that is probably why the Jedi wore different armor than cortosis armor.
@@blackdragoncyrusthey rarely were prior to the Clone Wars
The Sith were believed to be dead and few people outside of the Jedi used lightsabers. They were much more likely to fight droids or non-force users with blasters.
@@blackdragoncyrusit’s incredibly rare and hard to obtain only being found on two planets and is actually brought up in both legends and canon. The most famous example being a Cortosis sword which shows up in the Vader comics.
@@blackdragoncyrusIt's appeared in multiple books and video games Canon as well
To do list: "Create Beskar and Cortosis alloy"
or, create a cortosis plating over the beskar
Instructions unclear: I'm now being hunted by a group of angry Mandalorians
Making the alloy might degrade the cortosis integrity. Like in real life with certain metals.
Make a cortosis shell over beskar, like ballistic plates that have a woven kevlar shell over a ceramic plate.
@@devinthieraultNot to mention degrade the integrity of the Beskar, making it weaker
Fun fact. Even tho the material is resistence to lightsaber the material does get quite destroyed. Wich beskar doesnt.
Yeah, it's only good for disabling lightsabers and basically nothing else. Helpful, but damn, very limited.
Would have been very usefull if they were used as a glove
Probably why the helmet looks like it’s been welded together
I wonder if there were a cortosis‐beskar alloy that would be able to short out lightsabers while also having a higher durability
@@mossyproductions7451I’m pretty sure alloys with cortosis lost the ability to disable lightsabers but kept some of the resistance, hence you need pure cortosis
Cortosis has been canon before.
It appeared in Thrawn: Alliances
I think I remember it from that
It's not just less durable than Beskar, it's practically like hardened clay that breaks after taking enough blunt force physical trauma so it's not practical. Not to mention this metal is super rare and as such we don't see it often much like how there are so few Jedi and Sith who uses saber whips.
Sounds like great material to make your protective helmet out of.
@@Hlbkomer Yes as long as you know how to craft it right.
@@VanishEclipse4867 That was sarcasm my man. You literally said "breaks after taking enough blunt force physical trauma so it's not practical".
@@Hlbkomer Using Cortosis as an alloy and mixing it with Durasteel to create armor can counteract the weakness of Cortosis. It's used during the Old Republic Era likely before Beskar was discovered.
@@VanishEclipse4867 Would be great if the show could tell us that...
Cortosis was already in canon before the Acolyte, I think that the second book of the THRAWN trillogy was all around that material (if I remember correctly over 500 pages), so yea, not first apperance in canon
Oh and if I remember correctly it was in Doctor Alpha? Aphra? (I dont remember 🤣) yea but it was def mentioned there, but it was long ago when I read those comics ;D
It was brought into canon in A New Dawn, but was only brought into relevancy through Thrawn: Alliances.
Yes the spark eternals blade was made of cortosis in dr aphra
I remember that!
Stoping kids from saying first
When I saw the lightsabers blades go off from it, I was wanting to jump in happiness.
It showed for the first time in Doctor Aphra comic, used as kitchen knives against Vader.
The appearance in kotor was that blades coated with the cortosis weave were simply resistant to being damaged by lightsabers but not invulnerable nor did they turn them off.
That was weave rather than pure cortosis tbf. When pure cortosis showed up in the old books it had its shorting out capabilities established
@@jacksmythe2187 Ah ok, thanks for letting me know.
Do not forget the The B2 Crotosysis battle droids or CB3 that could not be mass produced because of Anakin Skywalker finding out of the factory thanks to palptine
I don't know about other appearances of the cortosis, but we can see the cortosis blade made by ascendant in the canon comics between episode 5 and 6, when Doktor Aphra got posesed by the Spark Eternal.
I forgot about that! The Knull Blade (null? sp?)!
in knights of the old republic, I really wanted to just abandon my lightsaber all together and just go straight force powers
Isn’t kortosis the metal they coated the b1 and b2s in thrawns novel the second one
Yup, though I don't remember it happening for B1 droids.
Haven’t heard the word cortosis since Star Wars: Obi-wan.
There's a lightsaber crystal that can make the opponent's saber weaker with each hit
Star Wars Content: *Hello There!!!!*
Off the top of my head, I think it was mentioned in Thrawn: Alliances as well. I can't remember exactly, but I think the CIS was trying to make droids out of it, and maybe there were hints Palpatine was going to make trooper armour out of it for Order 66, but there was an expense issue, I think? Anyway, it's been mentioned in canon before, but it's nice to see it make a visual appearance here.
Partly the cost, but also that they were too effective, which could have allowed separatists to win .
@@tymonsulimastalman1727 Yeah, that was it! Thanks for reminding me! :)
I’m one of plos bros
W
I had a fewling it was cortosis star wars
And while i like seeing stiff from the star wars legends i had growing up
HOWEVER!!!!!
that being said i do feel its a bit of a cop out by disney / star wars execs.
Kathleen kennady made a vig show by repeatedly saying the extended universe (now called legends) universe is no lobger canon. As well as they would jot being using that as a framework for future projects as they wanted to focus on new and origjnal ideas ( this is from when thebhigh republic was pushed forward)
Ever since time and time again they have taken plots, items, characters etc from the expanded universe because they realized they had nothing.
It’s been a minute, so my recollection may be flawed. Mechanically, it was a bit like asbestos in that it could be woven into fabric. It caused a feedback loop that causes lightsabres to shut off, but the effect was very temporary and the sabre could be ignited again immediately. Lightsabers were of two types with the prevailing type making up the overwhelming majority (I want to say single phase?) and these were the ones vulnerable to the exploit, the other type being unaffected.
The Emperor had a cortosis weave in his robes.
Wow Disney actually doing something accurate for once
For once and probably once only
@@bettafish6548 lol fr
You mean ripping off something instead of trying to be original? Nah i don't see it.
@@Amp661 he meant the Cortosis metal and lightsaber actually kill people
@@CrazinatorI guess you ignored Basils
jeck could do force push to his fallen brethren lightsabers for lightsaber replacement
The OG beskar.
Yup!
Qmir, Sol and these fights were the only good part of this show. What a horrible story.
Oh yeah the Vibro blades had a echani cortosis weave back in KOTOR games
Another fun fact. Darth Bane grew up in a Cortosis mining colony which helped build his imposing physique, and the Cortosis was mined by just hammering away with the universe equivalent of jackhammers. As while it's brittle it's still hard as hell, and energy based mining tools were essentially useless for it.
Looking at the Sith lords arms wouldn't surprise me if he did too
@PBST_RAIDZ true didn't realize until the second watch this guy's arms are JACKED
I knew this as soon as I saw it. My brother was wondering what it was called
Make legends canon again, no Disney Star Wars
Wait isn't that material of Magnaguard's staff
I mentioned this in your last vid
I jedi
Why didn’t the Jedi use the force? Jedi protect themself with a force bubble in training
you could say that about with any lightsaber fight
It was also used in the original Xbox game “Obi-Wan” by an enemy band of mercenaries quote “armed with cortosis swords”
So they trash "legends" and then keep using it.
That’s what George did, took what he wanted from the EU and disregarded what he didn’t.
There is some truth in Legends
@@YourDadYodano he didn't. He gave his blessing on Legends material yet he didn't create anything or borrow from them itself. He created purely his own work.
@@Amp661 yeah he gave his blessing, but he didn’t view any of the EU as hard canon, unless he chose to. There were tiers of canon before Disney wiped it clean.
Jensaarai when
You didn’t know? I thought you were a Star Wars fan? It’s been around for years.
To counter the brittle nature of Cortosis, you should create your armour from Beskar, but have raised trims/pieces made from Cortosis. That way the armour itself will remain strong, while having smaller spots that can short out lightsabers upon contact and not compromise the armour when damaged
his helmet amplifies his dark force powers too ...
I thought it blocked Jedi from reading his thoughts?
I knew about cortosis from the Jedi Academy Master Kyle Katarn game as well. Jedi Outcast
It was part of o e of the newer novels, Brotherhood of I recall correctly. Droids where being made with this stuff and Ani and Padme had to figure out how to destroy them,,, something like that 😉
Nice
I saw it the first time in issue 1 of the Purge series. Vader fights a bunch of jedis and one of them was carrying a sword made of this metal
Yeah even the commando droids sometimes had cortoisis blades
there's a few weapons made of cortosis in the star wars ttrpg, edge of the empire
Cortossos disables sabers.
Everyone hating on this and like I said it adds to the lore like come on people
the lightsaber hilts look so chonky and ugly. I suppose it’s because the props they use now actually light up and they need a battery or something, but they look awful, and not cool at all like they used to 🤷🏻♂️
I kinda like it tbh
@@YourDadYoda - to each their own, but meh! also, it doesn’t seem plausible that little Jecki could effectively wield a lightsaber meant for a Wookiee, you know?
@@Sam_T2000 I disagree with that as well lol. It’s just a lightsaber with a longer hilt, which is why that’s the one Qimir was able to break.
For the larger sabers, in general, is the idea that they are less advanced than the ones in the movies?
@@YourDadYoda - it’s not about length, but diameter… you’d want the diameter of the lightsaber to be small enough that your hand could get a solid grip, but large enough that you could easily switch your grip, and do the cool twirls and such… and I imagine Jonas Suotamo’s hands are probably twice the size of Dafne Keen’s 🤔
the sabers in the originals had practicality issues, too, like the big switch boxes sticking out the side and such, so 🤷🏻♂️
When will you stop addressing this show as Canon?
Looks like someone got his feelings hurt
@@darthgamer9468 No its just, saying that it is canon makes them win
@@RealMilester1 Makes who win?? This isn't a competition.
@@darthgamer9468 No it makes this kind of Star Wars win, the showrunner openly said she wants to change canon and all those changes she was talking about are ass, and Kathleen Kennedy well she should finally be fired for all her bullshit
@@RealMilester1 lmao okay
By the time Disney is done with Star Wars the lightsabers will be nerfed all the way down to a lava lamp.
This isn't new...
Thats not cannon, please don't say that 😢
It not strange that Smilo wears kurtosis armor. What's strange is that May doesn't
Yeah, why not give the expendable, unproven person the rare expensive kit?
Shit's expensive. Super rare And brittle I haven't seen the show but I wouldn't share my lightsaber Short circuiting metal with anyone. Unless I absolutely had enough to share or to give to someone I know I could trust with it
@@slitherthewizardofwither6959 Stealing enough money to buy armor seems easier to me than assassinating a jedi
@@InventiveHarvest I wouldn't know
At the beginning of the Plagueis novel, he and Tenebrous are in a cortosis mine when their droid explodes, which end with . . . (you'll need to read it if you want to know. It's an AMAZING book!).
the problem isn't that they used cortosis, its that you wouldn't know its cortosis unless you googled why his armor turned off their lightsabers. Without the set up in the show it is just plot armor
Ye they should've at least explained it a little bit of the helmet breaking after a punch does make it less plot armory
The show is still trash, the fight scene was still trash. Still trash
🥱🥱 make a good argument for once
