Yeah like I DONT get why people were giving the Prequels so much shit. I mean yeah, sometimes the whole thing with Anakin and Padme seemed a bit arkward and cringe... but fuck we are talking about a 5 year age-gap where the half-Orphan and then later on full orphan boy is able to act on his childhood crush, despite it being forbidden by the Organisation that shaped most of his adult life and helped him hone his most powerfull and extraordinary skills. Then there's also the fact that Anakin was older than most Jedi when he was being taught, the fact he never had 'a father' as such and that Obi Wan was more like a big brother to him when he should've been something akin to a surrogate father. And we shouldnt forget that Anakin's freedom came with him having to abandon his mother. I mean if that isnt making you feel guilty and fucked up... As for Padme, for her well he's a cute/handsome boy/man, their relationship is forbidden and he is a man with exceptional talents and probably one of the potentially most powerfull Jedi in the entire GALAXY! Heck, I can see how this can have a certian allure to her. And heck, romances CAN be arkward for those outside of it I'd say! XD
Issue was the script and his wooden acting for scenes where that shouldn't have been the case. Like his "I don't like sand" talk some how wins Padme over? Even after the Sand People killing?
@@solomonq2470 No, from the fans. George Lucas didn't tell the fans to be utter shit and telling the difference between acting and dialogue. Nor did he tell them to be that fuckin' spiteful n' malicious.
Mark Hamill also didn't really have a movie career after Star Wars either. He eventually got into voice acting and after landing the role of Joker that cemented his reputation as a voice actor to get him steady work in that area, but his movie career died with Star Wars.
But unlike Hayden Christensen, Hamill is a terrible actor: just compare the nuances of facial expressions of Luke and Anakin, for example... many people who hate "Revenge of the Sith" still give credit to how menacing Hayden as Vader pre-armour is.
One point of correction. Revenge of the Sith was NOT poorly received by fans. Most considered it the perfect redemption film for the previous two. It was massively popular.
I was a kid at the time so I didn’t get to see the broader fan reception, but I do remember our little town’s theater was so packed out for episode 3 that they had to use both screening rooms for it. (It was a tiny theater and only had two.) And all the boys at school were obsessed with star wars for months after, bringing their action figures and stuff like that.
Not really. Where I grew up, I told folks 3 was great and I was the butt of jokes for it. Adults and other kids my age felt similarly. Come to find that even when I left for college, liking three was like a cringe take but that somehow changed over by the time I graduated suddenly liking three was "peak taste" and everyone had liked it all along. Now I'm talking to people I know IRL and TLJ is even getting the "Well Luke's arc wasn't that bad and it feels more grounded now in hindsight" conversations. SW fans (at least in my lifetime so far) can never make up their fucking minds.
Exactly. And exactly the same dynamic with Mark Hamill. Brilliant actor with tremendous range who didn't find great work outside of SW because studios thought they were going to get Luke and not Mark the actor.
@@AsurasWrath164 although I love the movie, Jean Reno always takes the cake for me, you could make a movie alone on the shit that went down in and around that movie's release.
Some agents get kickbacks proping certain actors up and keeping others down. Hayden's career was sacrificed to propell whoever else was getting all his roles no doubt.
Yes and no. The actor can read a script and still decide not to do the movie. I guess Heyden maybe didn't understand what a good script looks like. Just maybe of course. Like jack Nicholson said about his carreer: "You know how I sustained my carreer? Because i am a good writer." And this makes so much sense.
Hayden said he loved star wars and acting as a craft and was just having fun and when star wars auditions came around he was not expecting to be selected but was just having fun being apart of it @@HilliIndustries
The part that this video is missing is the fact that Hayden chose to take a step back from his career because he wasn't mentally coping too well with the large amount of fame being in SW garnered. That's why he bought a farm in the middle of nowhere in Ontario when episode iii came out. Hayden said during episode iii press that playing Darth Vader would be the biggest thing of his career going forward so he wouldn't bother trying to top that character because it was impossible. Also, he was offered big roles after SW but decided to go back to indie where he'd come from. He was offered Edward in Twilight before Robert Pattinson ( writer of the book series Stephanie Meyer actually wrote the character with him in mind). He also was offered Superman Returns. His agent at the time called him crazy for turning roles like that down. Hayden fired him. The only reason he did Jumper was because Samuel L Jackson asked him to (the studio fired the original lead Tom Sturridge two weeks before filming was starting). It's kinda like what happened with Josh Hartnett who also decided to step back from Hollywood after becoming overwhelmed by fame and has only now come back.
Why did Josh Hartnett step back? I only remember him from O and Wicker Park which were very entertaining but in a second hand embarrassment hilarious kind of way.
@@troysmith5749 Career wise what happened was he was being offered huge roles like Batman that he kept turning down. He said he preferred smaller budget films like 30 Days of Night. This ended up making the major studios and his agent mad. He did not want to deal with the Hollywood politics and let them shape his career based on what they expected him to do. As a result acting became less fun for him. In his personal life as he got more famous he started having stalkers. Some guy showed up to one of his premieres with a gun saying he was Josh's real dad. Btw Josh was raised by his actual dad and stepmother so this guy was just a nutcase. He basically quit acting after that for a long while.
@@pamelajohnson9214 That was an amazing explanation, thank you. I didn't know all of that crazy stuff happened to him. I wonder how many crazy people would be bothering him if he took the Batman role.
@troysmith5749 You're welcome! Yeah it was nuts. And that's only what was publicly revealed. So much probably happened besides that. I think if he took the Batman role it would've been 10x worse for him.
@@pamelajohnson9214 Which Batman was he cast for? The recent Batman or the Dark Knight version? I know Christian Bale said he regretted playing Batman. He said it's because of the suit being so uncomfortable but I think it might be more than that.
I always felt his portrayal of Anakin as immature and brooding was spot on. He's training with kids probably half his age, and not allowed to interact with anybody you could consider a peer. And those who you might consider his peers look down on him cuz he started too late. What else would you expect from that character?
Exactly. There was also Anakin's visions that he'd lose his mother in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, and, later, Padme in Revenge of the Sith. Hayden's portrayal of that fear was also spot on.
i... don't think that's anything he ever had a problem with. He didn't train with other younglings/padawans, he strictly trained under Obi-Wan. And we never saw anyone look down on him, especially not for his age. That's not how the Jedi do things. And in Episode 3, when the younglings run to greet him you can clearly see respect and admiration towards him. He was immature and brooding because he started training too late, like Yoda and Windu feared. He grew an attachment to his mother and never learned to control his emotions.
Exactly. The people who complain about Anaking being "whiny" or "angsty" just want to see a Vader power fantasy. SW wasn't about power fantasies back then. And the films weren't nearly as hated when they came out. As with everything that's popular there's gonna be a group of people who hate it for no justifiable reason and SW fans are especially toxic and have been for a long time. Nowadays, every time anything new comes out you'll get a ton of "fans" saying "oh, it's woke garbage" or any right-wing talking points without actually adressing the projects themselves. Back then it was because they were expecting to see the OT again and when the films didn't match their expectations then somehow there must have been something deeply wrong with the films and not with the audience being stupid. The thing is that these criticisms of Hayden Christensen's performance and the character of Anakin don't come from these people engaging with the films themselves, it comes from the films not being what they expected. Their criticism is that the prequels weren't the films they imagined in their man-child brains for years before they came out. There was always negative talk online surrounding the films but when RLM dropped their """critique""" of Episode I, it was then that a lot of SW "fans" started shitting on the prequels as well. It's revisionist to say that "the critics" agreed the films were """bad""". Who were the critics in question that all agreed with this? Basement dwellers? There were critics who didn't like the films and there were critics who liked the films. The thing is, if you go read reviews of the films at the time, by far most of the criticism is concerning the individual's expectations, deep misunderstanding of the films and the rest of it is criticism of things that aren't in the films.

I think you forget the amount of kids who watched the star wars movies, who really loved them but didnt have a voice when the public talked about them. Now they've grown up and Hayden receives recognition from them
And outside the films themselves, Star Wars Kid. That poor boy was bullied *relentlessly* for his goofy lightsaber antics that made it into the early internet and went viral What sucks even more is that, if that clip had been released today, the Internet might have thought he was awesome.
Well it wasn't the critics that destroyed and make fun of him on the Internet for almost two decades. The fandom played a big role on his downfall as an actor. Pretty sure other actors that worked on the franchise can relate to this
This is a hot take, but honestly this makes his role in Star Wars feel so much more real. He got screwed over by the people who were supposed to lead him. Just like Anakin.
It's funny, but I remember everyone making fun of Anakin when the prequels came out. They said the character cheesy, his lines overdramatic but also stale at times, much like how Twilight's female protagonist is viewed today. Now it seems public opinion of Anakin has changed and people kind of feel sorry for him.
And acting like she wasn't in 6 other movies before Episode 1 and 7 more before Episode 3 came out. But they're acting like she was a nobody until after Star Wars
he literally played anakin so well that you can make an accurate psychology study between anakin and Vader, despite vader intentionally being a whole different kind of character. no suspension of disbelief needed, he actually delivers a realistic role, and some might call that a niche thing to enjoy but i think that has a lot of value
There wasn't even any issues, it was just a story that some people didn't like, because they wanted diffrent storys and not the story of Star Wars, but I haven't seen any fan remake of the trilogy, they're just Lady and angry..

When you perfectly replicate the monotone voice of Darth Vader and portray the awkwardness of a lovesick teenager, and are then critically derided for being too monotone and awkward.
Yeah Hayden played his role well but man this was just not the direction Lucas needed to take Anakin in. He wanted Anakin to be too much like Vader when just doesn’t work thankfully he learned his lesson with the clone wars where he made Anakin more of a everyman hero who had definitely had a dark side to him but overall good person. In the clone wars you can see how this Anakin can one day become Vader but in the movies Anakin already acts like Vader with that monotone dialogue but now he’s a whiny awkward teenager. Don’t blame Hayden blame Lucas.
@@Guava11534 I don’t blame either. I agree that TCW route was better, but honestly I don’t think Anakin sounding like Vader is an objective negative, I think people just didn’t get it.
@@CullodenCowboy true people definitely didn’t get it but it also didn’t help it sounded really bad. Idk George to me has always been a master of telling this grand and epic story but when it came to smaller scale things like character arcs he definitely struggled. I rewatched the prequels last week and the clone wars because I was showing a friend who’s never seen Star Wars the movies. The jump that Anakin had from being best friends with Obi-Wan to being his biggest hater was so strange and sudden. That’s just an additional detail I noticed that was wrong with Anakin’s character in the movie.
you failed to do your research with one question in mind, "what was hayden own goal?" and he said this pretty clearly that he didn't want major films because he wanted to be with his family and not be engulfed by hollywood. he also literally bought a farm and lived on a secluded area because he like the quiet and peace. he was set for life after star wars, he didn't need to work for his entire life after that, if he wanted to. but he decided to keep acting on small films, probably for fun and the sake of it. I don't think he ever hated starwars, and he didn't even try to run from it.. it's just, star wars didn't effect who he was. and what he wanted was something else then be a famous hollywood star. probably was to just live a fullfilled and quiet life. which I think, he is more happier then 99 percent of hollywood actors.
BS if True why did he become an Actor and already Star in Big Movies he got the Part Because he was becoming Noticed in Hollywood and He wanted more if he hates Movies Why did he say Yes to Playing the Second biggest Character on Earth or keep starring as DV his now only Character he is Nice but also A Creep Staring in SW Did Destroy his Acting Carrer for a Reason? He was Blocked for A Reason? Hollywood now Own Him The Asleep never see anything because they don't want to Let's hope he gets to act in something else

I feel like what people are missing about the acting of anakin is the fact that he is in his late teens in the second movie in the trilogy , George Lucas shaped each character based on age and their place in the film. The trilogy ultimately shows the build up from anakin , a trainee in the Jedi , innocent by nature to darth Vader , the exact opposite. It’s actually genius acknowledging the shift from good to evil in the show
Im sorry, dude made lead in Star Wars, is Canadian and is worth approx. 10 millions. I personally wouldnt dare call that a failed career. He's set for life with just 1 star wars movie. Not only that, but I read just now that he bought a farm and is educating himself on how to care for livestocks. He released a clothing lines inspired on his farm ( somehow). The dude is the epitome of success in life.
I actually live pretty close to his farm. My friend used to be a ski instructor in the area and he met Hayden Christensen when he picked his kid up from ski lessons. Knowing that he picked up his kid personally makes his situation seem pretty chill. You know that most celebrities are too busy to spend that kind of time with their families. Knowing that he lives a pretty chill life where he gets to spend time with his family is kinda nice.
Yes, L&T was God awful, but Natalie's role as Thor managed to be the one highlight and saving grace of that abomination. And the overall point he was making is that Portman still went on to have more work in the industry and relative success compared to Hayden Christensen.
oh god, who knew a man that literally most people generally thought was a machine in lore, would be a troubled and emotionally unstable youth. like seriously you can make actual real world psychology studies on Haydens performance and how it could realistically lead into vader. i feel like thats pretty fuckin good. Anakin is angry all the time due to a shitty life that at no point wasnt shitty, and didnt ever get a break or have any help with coping with it that actually helped. i wonder how that'd effect someone. probably make em quick to anger and even a little whiney. one thing i am glad about, is in this age of even worse, empty, way worse, souless, godawful, soul sucking, fucking dog water movies, and much more of them, we have learned not to hate actors/actress' unless they themselves do something stupid. outside of the film. at least for the most part. i fuckin love hayden personally. anakin and his performance of him, really helped me a lot as a young kid dealing with similar pains and the struggle with the same emotions anakin has. and hes also just a really chill guy from the looks of it. as much as i do hate these new star wars shows, im glad that haydens getting the respect he deserved.
@@c99kfm I expected a sequel after that introduction to characters and setting.....then I read that critics had trashed it. I still like it, not every plot has to be world-ending.
Two names. Jake Lloyd (young anakin) and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar). Jake’s acting career was ruined by bullying and online threats from people who did not like or understand his performance. Even though he did nothing wrong and acted quite fine as a kid. Ahmed Best also did a great job as Jar Jar Binks. A character who was supposed inspired by Bugs Bunny and actually has a very important role in the Phantom Menace. Ahmed’s career afterwards while never officially ended was in turmoil as well as him even considering taking his own life at one point to the same reasons. Online threats and bullying. So I’m not surprised if Hayden Christiansen has had difficulty given the fact that OG fanboy fanatics bullied everyone to the moon back over the prequels. Of which was unjustified and uncalled for.
to this day, i have no idea why people took it out on them. the script sucked. the directing sucked. were people just so unwilling to believe that lucas could mess up? we'd already seen the special editions by then.
@@arachnophilia427 Ok, I agree that the hatred should not have been taken out on them. However, I disagree not because I’m unwilling to believe. But rather because the prequels as a whole are a great story about the fall of the old republic and rise of the Empire. And we as the audience have no right to tell the writer (George Lucas) how his creation should be. Not to mention there are more practical effects in the prequels than the origin trilogy. And the use of CGI was an artistic choice by George and used to a degree no movie had done before. George should be praised for that, because it was revolutionary at the time. And I’ve actually gone back and watched the films and the movies have a convincing storyline that follows Anakin’s slow descent to the dark side. If you want more evidence, go watch Anomaly Inc. Lastly, if you hate the prequels because you just didn’t like them, then fine. To each his own taste in films. But if you say that the films are objectively bad, I’d like to see your evidence and what the standard is for a good film. Which if we’re looking at storytelling alone. George’s prequel films hold strong. They each have a convincing plot, a strong conflict, characters that actually talk and grow, an overall theme, and a setting of where they take place. And here, I’ll link the first video I think you should watch from Anomaly Inc’s Revenge of the Prequels. TO BE FAIR -- The only actor from the OT who was able to establish themselves as any kind of household name was Harrison Ford. -- Outside of Alec Guiness, who was already a name to classic film fans. You could argue Mark Hamill as a VO actor, but you have to already be into VO to know the roles that he's played -- not exactly general public knowledge.
That's exactly right. But I know that Mark played Pamela Anderson's uncle in VIP. He was the live action Trickster, but that was because he was already the cartoon voice of the Trickster. But it was nice to see him in both of those roles. But yeah this whole video is not good. I think it's a typical UA-cam, look at this, I am discovering something that is not really a thing. Hayden had a better than average career as a film actor. Wait he said Chris Evans is always going to be Captain America? What is he born yesterday? I saw him as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four and in the trailer this nurse said "he was hot". 😂
I could have done the same thing with Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams. But I don't agree with the whole point. I agree with you. The video is stupid in my opinion. If you look at a few hit movies you will find that there are many actors who have appeared in less than Hayden Christiansen. And sometimes it is because of certain problems and incidents. Sometimes they choose the wrong people, and they don't have the money or the timing is bad. Like why Katie Holmes is in one Batman movie and not the other one. That's because of the schedule apparently. But that is more interesting than this Star Wars video. Just for the views. 😒 But you're onto it. 👍

The entire premise of this video only works if you ignore the fact that the same thing happened to Mark Hamill. After Return of the Jedi, he didn't have another film role for 6 years and only managed a few TV roles in that time. When he did start getting roles again, they were mostly bad B movies and one-off TV roles until he went for voice acting in the 90s. He's even said in interviews that it was hard to get work after Star Wars because even though he'd done a lot in his career, casting directors would flat out tell him that he was Luke Skywalker and that's all he'll ever be.

I like Hayden Christianson. I don't know why, he just doesn't seem like the usual Hollywood jerk. I hope he's found something in life that can bring him happiness.
I do think his tone, appearance and presence is very specific and not one that is particularly relatable. He’s a bit awkward sounding, and doesn’t come across as an ‘every man’. With that said, I do like him as a person and his performance - in the context of the Shakespearean Star Wars prequels - has grown on me.
@@tvvistedv3nom26 I understand, but I don’t think it works to make him fully I to the Vader we eventually see in ANH. It got the impulsive and aggressive nature across, but I don’t feel like Anakin in Episode III leads so well into Vader in Episode IV. Coupled with how we see him at the end of RotJ, I think Hayden’s mistake is making him too monotonous - the machine he’s hooked up to was meant to have explained that away
Hayden Christensen has honestly been such a good sport about all of this. He's really been dealt an unfair hand when it comes to movies that he was casted in. Tbh, I don't even think his performances are all that bad, a lot of this is down to the directing and scripts. And even then, I really liked Jumper, and I'm excited to watch Takers. Here's to hoping he gets casted in more movies that get critical success, because he deserves it quite frankly.
His Darth Vader moments in RoTS are amazing. The way he looks at those younglings before he ignites the saber. The way he talks to Padme and Obi wan. The way he fights. Overall in RoTS he was amazing. AOTC he did have some cringe moments but again, none of it was his fault. In fact I don't even blame George Lucas because a slave being awkward and cringey when talking to his crush is realistic. Same slave being an emotional wreck is also logical. Fortunetely, Hayden is getting the love he always desserved. He is being appreciated. As a teen I would defend him from all the haters and it's funny some of those hatters now act as his biggest fans. My only two regrets are that he endured so much unneeded stress and that we didn't get to see him in more movies. I also watched Jumped. It was a cool movie (nothing mindblowing but definetely cool) and Hayden played it really well.
You forgot to mention, Hayden was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 2001, before Attack of the Clones, for "Life as a House". He's now back in Star Wars, he's redeemed himself, he was amazing in Kenobi and Ahsoka, people are excited to see him and I'm sure now his new movies wouldn't flop at the Box Office
Downside is that Kenobi and Ahsoka were chewed up pretty badly by Star Wars fans. But yeah, he's honestly really good in them. He has a lot of screen presence and whatnot. Tbh, I think those shows have some pretty good performances despite their flaws.
Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker perfectly. Think about it. Whiny- ” It’s all Obi-Wan’s fault, he’s holding me back!” Luke Skywalker “but I was supposed to go to Tashi station to pick up some power converters!” Hasty and impatient- “I have to go to tatooine to save my mom” Obi-Wan: we’ll take him together Anakin: no I’ll take them now! Luke: I have to go to cloud city I can’t get the visions out of my head! Palpatine: you killed Padme! Anakin: noooooooooooooo Darth Vader: I am your father Luke: nooooooooooooo
He deserves so much more love in the industry. He's a great actor and a genuinely kind guy from the times I've met him at conventions. Bad writing will make even the best actors look awful. Hell, Christopher Lee was an amazing actor and even I felt the script held him back a lot, especially when you compare it to his role as Saruman.
I loved the prequels 😭😭 but they’re what I grew up with. The original trilogy was before my time. I think that’s why I’ve never understood the prequel hate (nor did I even know about it until like two years ago lmao)
I love the prequels. I think they're better than the first three. Regardless, we can all agree that Disney Star Wars sucks, and we should not consider it Canon.
It’s interesting that Prequel Fans had no idea the Prequel Trilogy was hated for nearly two decades. I grew up in the transitionary period between the Prequel Era (1999-2005) and the Sequel Era (2015-2019), so I was aware the Prequel Trilogy was hated by Star Wars Fans and a lot of people, at a very young age. Which is ironic, because I grew up with Dave Feloni’s Clone Wars which feels like a better version of the Prequel Trilogy while also enhancing that trilogy. So I guess I’m basically a hypocrite. Honestly, the Prequel Hate was basically the Millennials/Gen X’s equivalent to the Sequel Hate that’s been going on since the Last Jedi. A lot of the same problems that we Gen Zs have towards the Sequel Trilogy (Mostly) are pretty much the same as how the Millennials & Gen Exs had towards the Prequel Trilogy. For me though, both trilogies have its ups & downs.

Amazing, I don't know but interesting, definitely. It shows that the "super-scenario" is very unlikely to happen: if they get super powers, most people will use them to fix their lifes and grant them some extras, not to make the world a better place.
agreed, i have to disagree with the nay-sayers, jumper was fun and it did a great job of showing what every young man would love to have; money, freedom, young, attractive, and the ability to go anywhere in the blink of an eye. sure some parts could have been better, but it was just cool, a movie one could put on for that comfort while doing other things, or sleep to.
I always found the prequels to be sooo Shakespearean. They have a special charm that other movies don’t have. I feel like critics just wanted the prequels to be just like the OT. That’s why they loved the sequels while fans grew tired. Most of the prequel hate was from the media. It’s a shame Hayden was treated so terribly
@@davemac9563The execution was brilliant in a ton of ways, you can obviously find problems here and there and if they're deal breakers for you there's nothing wrong with that (I know plenty of people who can't stand ESB because they can't get past the creepy Han-Leia romance). Some people just value different things in movies and that's fine.
And this is exactly why I am so beyond grateful was born in 1995 and got to enjoy these films in all their glory and advertisements growing up with no internet and no criticism and no outside negativity. I got to be a kid which is what these films were made for
That Fans that redeemed him as an Actor in Star Wars were the ones that fell in love with his character in The Clone Wars TV series, and because of that new found appreciation, allowed people to look back at the Prequel films with a new understanding.
It arguably also helps that "Prequel Memes" became a thing and the internet turned basically every scene (hell, almost every *line* ) into a gag. Enjoying the movies "ironically" eventually ended up becoming unironic enjoyment.
It's the culmination of multiple factors at the same time - 1. Some were too young at the time of movies, they only found a voice now. 2. Haters were louders than likers and drowned the positive voices. 3. And, as in my case, only were introduced to Star Wars recently. Force Awakens was my first Star Wars media. I like Hayden and the prequels most (I don't like the CGI cartoon show much nor their version of Anakin).
@@LilacSreyaI think it also has something to do with a lot of the hate for the movies being so mean-spirited and well cringe. I see the same thing happening with the Sequels now, more people are saying the sequel trilogy is good because the people who are super invested in hating it are really obnoxious.

I actually LOVE that Hayden has such a deep respect for acting! He wanted to take roles that would help him grow as an actor and not for the money and you can even see when he returned as Anakin in Ahsoka, he's still grown as an actor! I'm excited to see what roles he does next. Kinda reminds me of Robert Pattinson, you can see the respect for acting and dedication is there.
I never understood the hate on Hayden’s acting. If you think about it, Jedi’s were meticulously trained to keep their emotions in check. Would make sense that he’s “stiff” and “dry” for the most part. Also I’ll never forget seeing him catch on fire after getting his legs chopped in ep 3. I always thought that was a super visceral moment as a kid and that he really conveyed the pain and hatred for Obi Wan
This, I am willing to grant. I must assume that the Anakin we got matched Lucas' vision, which meant Hayden as an actor did what Lucas wanted him to do. Unfortunately, it wasn't what a lot of us wanted to see - even if teenage Anakin was vastly more bearable than pre-teen (Lloyd), he was still stiff and unnatural in a way we have seen in no other Jedi with even minimal training, much less one who would become Vader.
I mean I was excited for ep 7 and 8(before I saw it), 7 cause it was the first star wars in a while and 8 because 7 was decent enough that I had excitment as to were it could've gone, Mando was really enjoyable too, aswell as Ashoka for me, but I was a huge rebels fan
@@connorgarvin2056last time I was truly excited for Star Wars was actually not long ago, it was for S3 of Bad Batch, and despite controversy, I loved the show and still do.
I mean the original starwars was already not truly a masterpiece in writing & such. "A new hope"s storytelling felt kinda wooden. The Build-up of some story stages to the next one lacked some propper transition. Part 2 & 3 were solid but also not really overwhelming. What is one who tries to build further on it's movie legacy suposed to do? It just stood out at it's time, which is something you can't really recreate nowadays. There is other & often better space opera in books & comics, which would be nice to see on cinema as well, but sadly hollywood regulary fails at atttempts of doing so.
Mark Hamill too. Yes yes I know The Joker VA and 🐓-knocker wow how could I forget such an epic career. 🙄 Meanwhile Harrison Ford became one of the most successful action movie stars of all time. I mean, does anyone look at Indiana Jones and go... "Wait that's Han Solo, this is weird!"
reminder that Hayden's acting wasn't even on redlettermedia's critique list when doing those prequel reviews. Even "Mr. Plinkett" described him as doing fine with the material given to him, "he's not a bad actor kids, leave him alone."
Indeed. We know Portman and McGregor are good actors, but they’re often just as awkward and wooden in the prequels. Lucas should have just provided the general plot and let someone else write and direct.
Well, it may have "ruined his career", but from my perspective at least, it definitely saved his life by keeping him as much away from the vicious clutches of Hollywood for the most part.
Dude I though Hayden did such a great job portraying Anakin. It's criminal that he didn't land more roles. Anakin is one of my favourite characters from SW *because* of his acting.
Mark Hamill's biggest acting gig besides Star Wars was...Guyver? Which is obviously legendary, but being big in one series doesn't automatically translate to stardom elsewhere. Obviously, he found what some people might even consider his true calling in voice acting, but yeah. Even if you take out Star Wars, Hayden's career is something most actors would love to have. It's not "great", but he constantly had the opportunity not only for steady work but to pick a lot of his projects, a lot like Daniel Radcliffe (although it would have been nice if he got as weird with it). The more interesting thing is how, according to IMDB, he, Ewan McGregor, and Natalie Portman all started getting gigs in the industry in 93/94.
Mark Hamill is probably one of the most famous examples of someone who gets type cast in roles not at all like their most famous one - cartoon super villains in voice acting
Dude he rocked at being the voice of Bruce Timm's Joker from Timmverse of Batman lol. He also was the voice of Ozai on ATLA. Mark has a bigger roles pool for sure.
I never had issues with Hayden, nothing but love for him on my end. Grew up watching the prequels, and was genuinely excited to see him come back to it after all these years. His parts in Ahsoka and Obi Wan were amazing!
@@theinnerlight8016Bruh you lie so bad. Without the prequels, Star Wars is only half complete. George conceived it as a set of trilogies, and intentionally left the prequels for a point down the road where he hoped technology would improve to allow him to do them right.
It’s a shame what happened to him. Especially considering how younger generations absolutely adore his performance as Anakin. Probably because they never had that prequel hype so his performance wasn’t as damaging.
I always loved the prequels growing up and I still do now, but... whenever I think of how bad most of Hayden's career went, I imagine someone will explain it saying "have I ever told you about the tragedy of Hayden Christensen", it does make me kinda sad tbh. Not only did I love the movies, but I think his acting is pretty good. Honestly, i'm pretty critical of movies and i'm somewhat critical of actors/actresses as well and I've always thought Hayden was a good actor, maybe not great but good. He NEVER deserved any of this BS, because the issues people had with the prequels (somewhat cringe or campy dialogue, shakespearean nature, etc.) was not his fault (and I personally love that more shakespearean nature of the prequels, cuz I love shakespeare and the somewhat campy dialogue doesn't bother me as a gamer who loves Bethesda Softworks games) But on Hayden specifically, he's a good guy and a good actor and it really sucks that the best years of his life, he was never able to capitalize on in Movies because of... honestly, haters. I hope we see him in more stuff going forward before it's too late.
The thing is about becoming a huge star due to a super popular role, is if you haven't been established as a known actor before that, you are screwed. At least, you won't be able to escape that role. You used Chris Evans as an example but he was already established as a known actor before captain america. For example, I knew him from scott pilgrim but he also had a lot of other roles that were somewhat known.
There are some exceptions though. Robert Pattinson managed to escape the aftermath of the Twilight franchise (which was arguably worse than the Stars Wars prequels) to the point almost no one remembers he was in it. He went from Twlight to Batman in less than a decade
he did what hayden should have done, he knew his face was taped all over star wars, so he delved into voice acting, he did a couple shows here and there, the flash, BBT (just as himself lmao) but knew he wouldnt be able to hit the blockbuster films again without luke casting a shadow over him
literally played anakin the way george directed him to. he was playing an awkward teenager who had a very abnormal childhood full of trauma and grief
XD

I always felt his portrayal of Anakin as immature and brooding was spot on. He's training with kids probably half his age, and not allowed to interact with anybody you could consider a peer. And those who you might consider his peers look down on him cuz he started too late. What else would you expect from that character?
Good point👍
And he grew an ego because he was “the chosen one”

Knowing that he picked up his kid personally makes his situation seem pretty chill. You know that most celebrities are too busy to spend that kind of time with their families. Knowing that he lives a pretty chill life where he gets to spend time with his family is kinda nice.
He seems like the coolest and chillest guy. I wish him all success.

Yes, L&T was God awful, but Natalie's role as Thor managed to be the one highlight and saving grace of that abomination. And the overall point he was making is that Portman still went on to have more work in the industry and relative success compared to Hayden Christensen.
Star Wars didn't ruin his career. The Darth Fandom, who had their own expectations on how a young Anakin Skywalker should be, ruined it.
For many, he IS absolutely the one and only Anakin Skywalker, one of the most iconic characters in all of pop culture, so he's done alright.
David Prowse says otherwise. He played Vader in the OT
Sebastian Shaw played Anakin without the helmet in Return of the Jedi. Both predate Hayden.

He has a total of 16 videos (as of me writing this comment)

Well that's how life is. He couldn't escape his fate as Darth Vader, it's just become his character now.
But you're onto it. 👍
But would Ford have been as famous if Tom Selleck played Indiana Jones, as Lucas originally wanted?
But I'm pretty sure that when you were in three of the top blockbusting movies (that was when the term was first invited), you didn't have to work.

I grew up in the transitionary period between the Prequel Era (1999-2005) and the Sequel Era (2015-2019), so I was aware the Prequel Trilogy was hated by Star Wars Fans and a lot of people, at a very young age.
Also the sequel is utter garbage that made fans thought to prequel, "Perhaps I treat you too harshly".
It's the culmination of multiple factors at the same time - 1. Some were too young at the time of movies, they only found a voice now.

He was the perfect Anakin for the backstory Lucas wrote, just not the Anakin the audience expected based on the OT.

The way anakin is in the prequels makes sense a lot for how darth vader acts the og trilogy
Well, that is exactly what happened to Carrie Fisher before Hayden.
Mark Hamill too.
Yes yes I know The Joker VA and 🐓-knocker wow how could I forget such an epic career. 🙄
Meanwhile Harrison Ford became one of the most successful action movie stars of all time. I mean, does anyone look at Indiana Jones and go... "Wait that's Han Solo, this is weird!"
@@rector0455 exactly. It's not the movie.
And now it’s happening to Daisy Ridley (Ray Actress) I’m sensing a pattern here
reminder that Hayden's acting wasn't even on redlettermedia's critique list when doing those prequel reviews.
@@JR-kx3jr or at least a better acting director. but no charismatic actor can make the sand dialogue sound good.
and to think everyone loves him for his role as anakin now, feels bad man 😢
Well, it may have "ruined his career", but from my perspective at least, it definitely saved his life by keeping him as much away from the vicious clutches of Hollywood for the most part.
Mark Hammill's biggest acting gig after Star Wars is as the animated Joker and he was perfect
Those of us who grew up on the prequels finally have the louder voice than the gen Xs who ruined his career.
People wanted to see Darth Vader as a teenager and didn't liked him acted like a teenager
No one wanted to see Darth Vader as a teenager. Ever.
@@theinnerlight8016 well, that's how the second trilogy was sold and yet people went to the movie theater for episode I
@@theinnerlight8016Bruh you lie so bad. Without the prequels, Star Wars is only half complete. George conceived it as a set of trilogies, and intentionally left the prequels for a point down the road where he hoped technology would improve to allow him to do them right.
@@theinnerlight8016so what, have EU movies instead? Lmao
@@rector0455 That has nothing to do with seeing Vader as a teenager.
I love Shattered Glass! I think that movie is his best acting performance!
Completely agree, it's one of my favorite modern dramas. Nice to see another fan.
He's even better in Life as a House.
Pretty darn good movie!
It's crazy how normally he sounds so much like Matt Lanter's Anakin in his talk with Diego Luna
Aging and getting back into the role through the Clone Wars series will do that.
Prequels were the best, and Haydens performance was just peak. The way he shows emotions is just remarkable
It’s a shame what happened to him. Especially considering how younger generations absolutely adore his performance as Anakin. Probably because they never had that prequel hype so his performance wasn’t as damaging.
Real
and he is such a down to earth guy too, feel bad for him
I always loved the prequels growing up and I still do now, but... whenever I think of how bad most of Hayden's career went, I imagine someone will explain it saying "have I ever told you about the tragedy of Hayden Christensen", it does make me kinda sad tbh. Not only did I love the movies, but I think his acting is pretty good. Honestly, i'm pretty critical of movies and i'm somewhat critical of actors/actresses as well and I've always thought Hayden was a good actor, maybe not great but good. He NEVER deserved any of this BS, because the issues people had with the prequels (somewhat cringe or campy dialogue, shakespearean nature, etc.) was not his fault (and I personally love that more shakespearean nature of the prequels, cuz I love shakespeare and the somewhat campy dialogue doesn't bother me as a gamer who loves Bethesda Softworks games)
But on Hayden specifically, he's a good guy and a good actor and it really sucks that the best years of his life, he was never able to capitalize on in Movies because of... honestly, haters. I hope we see him in more stuff going forward before it's too late.
y'know it's nice he finally was appreciated, he didn't deserve that hate back then
The thing is about becoming a huge star due to a super popular role, is if you haven't been established as a known actor before that, you are screwed.
Yeah. I don't know why he thinks this is exclusive to Star Wars. It happens in every franchise.
mark hamill was never in anything i can remember aside from voicing the joker
Wing Commander was a great series of video games
Ozai in avatar the last Airbender.
he did what hayden should have done, he knew his face was taped all over star wars, so he delved into voice acting, he did a couple shows here and there, the flash, BBT (just as himself lmao) but knew he wouldnt be able to hit the blockbuster films again without luke casting a shadow over him
Regular Show
He’s been in tons of animated shows, the Joker, Skips from regular show. He even played chucky in the remake
He epitomizes the phrase "suffering from success."
Honestly I think it makes more sense for him to be an awkward teenager and then transform into the most deadly villain of all time
