Allison is a nice tune by him. Peace
Nick Lowe wrote "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" in 1974 and reworked it with Elvis Costello for the follow up to "Radio, Radio" he was producing for him. The song originally began as a B-side, but the rearrangement rocks with earnest anger, so it became the signature hit. 1979. It was part of the "New Wave" which in some cases with British imports meant a delay in the US of a year or more. And when MTV launched it lacked music videos from the leading US rock bands and turned to British imports for content. "Accidents Will Happen" and "Oliver's Army" were a couple from Elvis Costello that got a lot of play. The video for "Accidents Will Happen", if I recall, featured a lot of frenetic geometric art that may have inspired the video for A-Ha "Take On Me". Peace, love, and understanding is serious business. Heh.
This song was written by frequent Costello Producer, Nick Lowe. Nick Lowe also had a more than respectable career with hits like Breaking Glass & I Knew the Bride when She Used to Rocknroll'.
"watching the detectives" is 🔥🔥🔥
Always liked that one too
I'm not the biggest Elvis Costello fan, but he does have some excellent songs with a very good message. This is one of them. Another is Oliver's Army, about Apartheid in South Africa.
Elvis Costello wrote "Oliver's Army" as a comment on the Troubles in Northern Ireland during the 1970s.
It has nothing to do with South Africa... 🤨
Thanks for listening to Elvis Costello. Love this music. So many great songs and suggestions. Alison is so beautiful. Veronica and Accident Will Happen. Great suggestions from others!
Shipbuilding by Elvis Costello is another great song by him 😎
@@stephenb6911 Diving for dear life when we could be diving for pearls 🤔
Check out "Watching the Detectives " ❤
Jump down the rabbit hole of Elvis Costello and you'll never come out.
Artists like Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Blondie, Devo, The B-52s, The Cars, and The Pretenders, were bands in the late 70's that created the "80's Sound".
Such an eclectic rabbit hole- one of my absolute favorite artists- love him
Check out “I Want You” by Elvis. It’s my all time favorite of his. ✌️♥️🎶
Great song and sentiment ♥️
Great. I've been enjoying your run of late seventies-early eighties artists. Costello, Talking Heads, Pretenders...
He had some good messages.Still love hearing him years later.
I never heard this before it was good. Thanks Biz
Thanks for hitting Big E, Biz. Love it
“Radio” is a great song!
Worth a listen
Elvis is Amazing! Thanks Biz. Try Welcome to the Working Week as a great representative early Elvis song.
😎👌
The original version is on an album by Brinsley Shwartz , a band that had Nick Lowe, the writer of the song.
Nice comparison to Talking Heads, more or less same era.
Yes, you seem to be describing a sort of confirmation bias; we look for things that tend to support our preconceived beliefs/likes. For UA-cam's algorithms, the only thing that matters is clicks and eyes-on-ads. It stands to reason then that they'd put a premium on quantity over content; why show you things you _might_ like when we can show you only what you've preferred in the past. In the end, that kind of echo chamber is self-defeating because it eventually becomes boring and predictable, and interest wanes. Wait, what was the question again? Oh yeah, I like Elvis Costello, too!
