Agreed, but I can't help but think that a big part of the original blowup was on Morgan's old show, His format not Ben's. I think that dust up occurred precisely how Piers wanted it to, and at least partly(if not mostly)for ratings. Same issue when he had Ted Nugent on. Now he's on Shapiro's show, Shapiro's format and it played out as Ben wanted it. Fundamentally, I just have an issue against a Brit lecturing Americans about gun rights. He's now OK with restricting knife ownership. He looks at it as the same topic. That is, in my opinion, the very definition of a nanny state. Where does it stop? I think the reason he's ok with this line of thought(and others)is he can't conceive of a scenario where a society like the US or Britain could break down to a level of chaos where guns are needed. Even when there are examples all over the world. It's short sighted and unrealistic in my view.
@@Zoowaah nothing was settled. But Morgan brought up your (pro 2A) Achilles-heel, which is banning full-auto weapons, and being ok with that. While being hysterical when anybody talks about restricting semi-auto... You're system already restricts what guns you can purchase, why not tailor it back up one level to deal with mass shootings, which are from assault rifles (a gun almost useless for anything else other than shooting at multiple people)?
Ben made a career for himself on the Piers Morgan show absolutely destroying the man and now he’s giving him a platform when nobody else will. Crazy how life goes sometimes.

In his country, Piers is a conservative. He and Ben have far more in common than they have in opposition. One of those commonalities is being able to disagree and argue without holding animus.

If you're actually tolerant, you don't need to yell it to the world, put it in bios, purchase cringey yard signs, etc. Your tolerance should speak for itself.
This is how a true debate should be. Conversation without screaming and actually listening to the other person with no interruptions. Brilliantly done ✅

They've actually had a fairly good relationship over the last few years despite the viral takedown on CNN. I think more than anything Piers came to respect Shapiro's ferocity in debate and Shapiro came to respect Piers' honesty, even when he's sometimes a jackass for it.
Think it was being in the interview chair. Something about that makes some people a lot worse at pushing ideas. They try too hard to push the conversation, and it hurts the quality of what is being said. Whereas here Ben is doing what many good interviewers do, and letting the person explain their view, and his questions allow more explanation, not defensiveness.
No, he hasn't changed: he still treats people he interviews badly, because the last one I saw was on the show where the studio is slathered with his name everywhere, and he was talking with Andrew Tate, and that was recently. The problem is that Piers is amazingly egotistical, but like an abusive person in a relationship, after he's done trying to beat you, he acts nice to the point that you forget he's not a jagoff. He's a bully and a narcissist, don't get it twisted just because he has a British accent.
Love these kind of debates; no screaming or hollering, no cutting off the guest for a commercial every time a point is made, no pandering to the camera/audience. Well done by both sides, bravo!

it’s how all debates - or opinionated discussions - should be; constantly interrupting eachother/shouting/verbally attacking is a great way to lose my interest and i won’t watch. unfortunately it seems like most political debates are like that these days, which is sad.
Shapiro became famous on Piers Morgans show and now that Morgan is getting “cancelled”, Ben is reaching out to give him a platform. Thats actually really awesome.
@Grandfather_Din_Racket It's fine to say you like your guns and you don't want to lose them but to say the government could murder you and you need your guns to defend yourself is very schizophrenic. If the gov really wanted to kill you, they have MUCH more fire power and means to do it so even if you did have a lot of guns, that's not going to prevent your eminent death. They have jets with bombs, drones with bombs, they have biowarfare and satellites. Do you think a machine gun is going to slow them down?
@Grandfather_Din_Racket Ever since 0400 Zulu time, this thread has gotten weird. No idea what you’re saying... and bc another replied to your comment in a different fashion than I would have elected, I’m not sure anyone else does either? 🤷♂️ Ben is generally pro-gun ownership; you say he “lost” the discussion - yes, that; it clearly wasn’t a debate (and I’m not even sure how one can “lose” a courteous chat?) - but you don’t want your gov to “mur you”...? So then own guns, right? At least have a chance to fight back? Or are you saying your gov has a better opportunity to slay you simply bc of 2A?
@@norcal9376I get tired of this argument. The government doesn't want to kill you. They want to infringe on your rights to control you, invade your privacy, pass any invasive law with as little pushback as possible. For example, in places like the UK, if you hurt someone's feelings on Twitter they can come to your house and arrest you. Try that in the U.S., it'd be a death sentence for a lot of law enforcement. And even if they did want to kill us, the government has no interest in destroying their hard built infrastructure, the roads, the power systems, gas, water, and getting rid of their precious taxpayers utility to them. They can't afford to, so they try year after year to take our guns away through laws that are ever more nonsensical and restrictive. That and the military swore and oath to defend their countru from domestic enemies, so them supporting the government in slaying their people wouldn't fly. @@embracethesuck1041 it takes a while to actually change someone’s mind. And most of it involves establishing trust and respect. There needs to be more conversations like this. Two people with differing opinions not interrupting each other and speaking openly. Just a straight forward courteous conversation, it just doesn't happen anymore.
This called Intellectual Humility. It’s the ability to criticize and talk about different ideas in a fair and unbiased way, without judging those who believe in those ideas. It doesn’t happen anymore because people fear getting cancelled for their opinion; whether it’s right or wrong, but you’re 100% right these conversations need to happen

@@madebymollo1780 you know what I mean yet you make another non point. Actions can not be merely emotional they need critical thinking to back them up. Piers never provided that. But again, that’s beside the point because firearms are a fundamental right and can not be justly taken by anyone.
@@clumzycrewer I'm sure the Brits would have loved the argument of guns being a "public health issue" in the late 1700's. Submachine guns are....machine guns, hence the name. Open bolt designed for fully automatic fire (keyword "designed for" doesn't mean it has to be automatic). The confusion most people have are automatic rifles are not machine guns. The mechanical function is designed for a specific behavior which is what caused the naming. I understand that it is not belt fed heavy barreled full "MG" but the submachine gun is designed for suppression and automatic fire. Its purpose is generally in the same category as a machine gun at shorter ranges, which is opposite of a rifle. I understand that morons use these terms just to make things sound more scary than they are but I would consider a submachine gun to be in the "machine gun" category due to its function. For example its not a rifle, carbine, or musket, and it is not a pistol.
the reason I think this debate was respectful is because Ben was the host and wasn't interrupting the guest on every point that he was making. That's what we are missing from mainstream media nowadays.
@Taxed Burner I am actually not a native English speaker and looked up the definition of mainstream and I 100% agree with you. So how should I categorize them if I want to bring those up in a conversation? popular media outlets?
what Piers doesn't understand is that by in large governments have killed more people than mass shooters. You can add all the mass shooters in history and the death count still wouldn't touch the body counts of governments waging war on their own people. The second amendment protects us from a tyrannical government. if you take away any kind of gun say the ar-15 tomorrow, they will take away pistols next and soon you won't have anything to defend yourself and the government ends up being like something you have today in China.
I love the fact that they are willing to meet again, this time piers doesn’t have a producer talking in his ear piece. It’s cool to see people who disagree sitting down again and having a conversation like grown adults. Instead of just name calling and pointing fingers.
Sadly this is what we are now lacking; and the reason for this is! the left know they will be humiliated because their arguments don't make sense...and this is being taught in schools, so what chance is there of a civilized population ...the left are pushing this narrative because they want to bring in communism' so they can control everyone, and they are using the youth to bring this about, how despicable is that....
I also thank them both for having a civil and sound minded discussion on real subjects and especially the core causes of democracy and government with simple examples where you can reach a wider audience. Especially in a time where we see newly elected politicians and old ones raving and shouting, swearing and cursing each other online without listening and arguing...
It’s great that they were able to have civil discourse; we certainly need more of that. Polarization so often prevents debate entirely and leads to screaming matches. I am, however, disappointed that Ben didn’t defend the reason for the Second Amendment. Piers brought up sport shooting, but the 2A has nothing to do with leisurely pursuits. He also vilified “assault rifles” as killing machines, but the whole idea of the 2A is that it is the right of the People to protect themselves from a tyrannical government. That being so, we are absolutely entitled to weaponry that is on par with what the military has. Guns aren’t the reason for mass shootings- they are just the tool. Also, handguns are the most commonly used firearms used in mass shootings-not rifles. Our ongoing (and unmentionable) mental health crisis is the cause of mass shootings and that should be the real topic of debate.
Woah, an actual CONVERSATION happened here! Props to both of you for sharing both sides in a way that forced me to consider the morality of the issue without feeling like I have to take someone’s side.
"You have to do something is my point" - Piers Actually no. You don't have to do anything at all. Seriously. The probability of being a victim of a mass shooting is incredibly, incredibly small. You would be better off doing something about heart disease or cancer, it would affect vastly more people. The reason people feel the need to do something about mass shootings is because the media provide an emotional response to it. And because the media have made it political by pushing for mass regulations on guns and punishing good people who enjoy guns. I find it really funny that Democrats complain about people being incarcerated and imprisoned for simple drug possession and usage, but at the same time, are ready to put gun owners in prison, who don't want to hurt nor have hurt anyone, but who don't want to give up their guns. In other words - in prison for gun possession only. And it's not even the same as the drug possession analogy. It's not a perfect analogy. The drugs hurt those people who take them. Whereas I can own a gun my entire life without hurting anyone at all. And yet Democrats are ready to put people in prison for the victimless crime of simply owning one.
Honestly, that would be awesome. Daily Wire should bring him in. I've seen multiple times where people will post a Daily Wire video or article as evidence to something that happened and people dismiss it simply because it's Daily Wire. @@itsyourenotyour9101 blunt weapons are banned here. You say it’s embarrassing but you don’t know the culture these kids grow up in. The difference is, here we’re trying to save children’s lives, not every attempt will work sure but it’s better than just witnessing a new mass murder every month (pre COVID) and doing absolutely nothing about it.
@@kristoferboesen5671 Our argument is that the emotional response to a massacre is out of balance with the reality of data of countries that have banned guns and then murdered 10's of millions of their own people. In that light, 20 kids in a school is nothing. Also besides the fear of tyranny, unlike in the UK and other european countries, very large numbers of our population live outside of cities, sprawled very far apart, where response time can be very long and even within some cities 911 services can be 30-45 minutes from responding. Then we have a lot of armed violent crime, annually about 1.75 million burglaries, of which a pretty high % are armed, and a pretty large number result in violence against the residents of the home being burglarized, lots of rapes and torture and everything else that happens to people in those scenarios. So the effect from a nationwide response that decides to ban some specific guns or all guns or whatever, has a different effect on people in the middle of a big city where there's nearly a cop car on every block, than for a woman who lives alone in a rural area, and has a gang of 3 or 4 guys bust into her house, but she's got her one bullet the government allows her to have. In all seriousness, 10 rounds(i think some states in the US have actually instituted a smaller capacity requirement) sounds like a lot until you are fighting for your life against multiple attackers. In the virginia tech shooting the gunman changed magazines MANY times in the course of that spree, 10 round limits wouldn't have done much. Also you had one high profile mass shooting recently that used a .38 revolver hand gun and a shotgun, 2 of the most low profile weapons that even many gun control advocates are supposedly okay with as self defense weapons. There are potentially hundreds of thousands of defensive uses of firearms per year in the usa, and it's hard to estimate how many lives they save vs the ones taken. In my personal opinion it's our cultural rot that is the issue, the shootings are just the symptom, we have a lot of miserable angry people that when they shown signs of mental illness and anti-social behavior they just get rejected from whatever little family or social groups they even have and become complete loners. I mean our culture has gotten so extreme that just having different opinions about politics or voting for one party instead of another can literally get you cast out of every group you belong to, disowned by family and friends, fired from your job, etc. When you create outcasts it becomes a ticking time bomb.

Agreed, but thats true only when people who are having a conversation are acting in bad faith or are just simply too entrenched in their beliefs to the detriment of reaching the objective, honest, rational conclusion. The only time that doesnt hold true is when you have such conversations with people who come with an open mind, without any agenda or overt beliefs about correctness of their propositions, just for the sake of getting to the rational conclusion. Its rare to have such people around you, but when you do, it really makes some extremely fruitful conversations. People always want to be absolutely correct in their observations before they come for a discussion and while that is understandable in an exchange with someone you hold as an adversary, someone you abdolutely want to obliterate, having such notions in friendly environments only works to the detriment of getting to the root of the matter under discussion

He said submachine gun. The first time then corrected himself the 2nd time.
Machine pistol pistols are guns so it is a machinegun by the transitive property of equality.

@Taxed Burner thanks for telling us what we should and shouldn't say! How should i wipe my ass left to right or right to left ???
The incident with the girl and the uzi was the fault of the instructor giving her that firearm. It doesn’t mean someone else isn’t capable.
I love the fact that they are willing to meet again, this time piers doesn’t have a producer talking in his ear piece. It’s cool to see people who disagree sitting down again and having a conversation like grown adults. Instead of just name calling and pointing fingers.
Or somehow making it about the melanin in your skin.

Piers said they became friends after that viral argument years ago.
I appreciated this sit down, a calm CONVERSATION. No gotchas, no sound bites, just a real conversation.
1776 WILL COMMENCE AGAIN!
Two adults with differing views having a civil conversation and listening to each other respectively... rare as it gets these days
If Oprah and Obama wear sitting at that table they would call everyone racist with less skin pigmentation than them, then declare themselves victors.
Not just that, but they even agree somewhere in the middle on multiple things, and both of them make reasonable points.
I wouldn't mind seeing Ben & Piers do a show like this on a regular basis.
Yes! Ben makes a better co host than Suzanna Reid. Wouldn't be hard I suppose.
Totally agree.
The show could be called Both sides. With your host Ben Shapiro.
"You have to do something is my point" - Piers
Actually no.
Or they don't like Ben Shapiro. I think Piers would bring a counterbalance and keep the whole group a little more honest. And you'd bring in people who might not care for Ben's opinion, but they might listen to Piers.
I'm not crazy about Piers, but I can absolutely respect him having the stones to sit and chat with Ben when most people on the other side of the aisle never would.

@@itsyourenotyour9101 blunt weapons are banned here. You say it’s embarrassing but you don’t know the culture these kids grow up in. @@itsyourenotyour9101 Baseball bat registry.
@@kristoferboesen5671 that’s not the point! The point is that your very unlikely to die in a mass shooting and more likely to be killed individually! Unless you own a handgun yourself! Does that mean that you shouldn't concede a position that rationally is impossible to defend?

It’s been said the “medium is the message. “ So now that Piers is out of the mainstream media, he can act like a normal person and have a normal conversation. This is brilliant.
For real, hes been a more reasonable and centrist guy here, than on that show. Over there he flipped from far left to far right
Don't trust it for a second. He's only trying to promote himself and find a new career and understands podcasts are his only way to do that.
@@scarlace wtf you on about, he was always quite honest with his opinions
And it's also why traditional media is suffering a slow but painful certain death.
@@bantafanta7301 It's not about his opinions
Piers, the reason why I am willing to put up with cigarettes banned, and no drunk driving, but I do not support gun control. 2A is so a Government or group cant exercise tyranny over me. Period. Cigarette doesnt prevent that, alcohol doesnt prevent that.
Ben and Piers allowing each other to speak fully and allow each other to have a brief pause without interrupting is incredible and something completely missing from broadcasting today.
Sadly common courtesy is not so common these days.
Have you ever seen Piers Morgan interview anyone? He’s the master at butting in and talking over people.
@@TS-hr7nv He kept cutting Ben off here as well...
Yeah Piers was not showing the same level of respect at all.
The guns used in “mass shootings” in the last 20 years have been around for more than 40 years. The increase in shootings is directly connected to the reduction in the value of human life.
I think the invention of the internet combined with the amount of people that are on some kind of prescription pills are having a huge impact on the rise of mass shootings in America
Very likely. Abortion advocates, I'm looking at YOU!
AR15s were not particularly prolific in the US market until about 15 years ago. Today they're the quintessential everyman's rifle, whereas not that long ago they were still quite expensive and niche.
@@Freakishd That's because, until 15 years ago, they were outlawed by the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.
@@afluffypinecone3577 no, you could still buy a pre ban AR or a ban compliant AR that did not have a flash hider or a bayonet lug during that 10 year ban period. Same gun, same rate of fire, same capabilities.

"I don't see a need for machine guns " well, wait until the government is coming for you. You will see it then. However, this discussion was admirably calm and civil. ❤

I like how Piers used an argument about his son as a justification to regulate guns more when instead just makes me want to deregulate non-alcoholic use.
Exactly. Exactly what I thought as well. He is complaining that because his son had to show ID for non-alcoholic beer, guns need to be regulated more. My immediate reaction was the laws in California are ridiculous and need to be deregulated.
Thank you. But, this just shows that all a liberal wants is a highly-regulated society, whereas conservatives want a lightly-regulated society of self-regulated citizens.
Good point.
He wasn't saying the regulation was a good thing at all, he was simply pointing out that there was a hypocrisy in trying to regulate things very heavily in the United states when there's no sensible reason to do so purely because it wasn't a political issue. He wasn't pro regulation.... if you actually heard his tone and sentences that followed.
The guy is a pompous ass; probably incurable?
Damn, Piers is actually pretty great in a setting like this. It's when he's on a talk show and he's expected to say something outrageous that he's a bit hard to take sometimes

@@nittyblahblah8939 we all learn from our experiences.
Don’t know what it is but he was so annoying on CNN. Maybe he was looking at the US through a British lens, and thought everyone behaves like Brits. But liberals like this guy and Bill Maher are losing their patience with the Democratic Party too, it’s like Piers says, your job is not too please everyone. That’s exactly what the Democrats do.
What’s left after banning knifes in Britain. Guess what the violent crime will just be committed with another weapon. Soon cricket bats and baseball bats will start to become illegal 😂
That’s because on this morning he has unhinged leftist guests with crazy ideas he can’t agree with, that talk nonsense, he is talking to a sensible person here that he can have a reasonable discussion with. They may have some different opinions, but their main objective is the same.
Wow, a real debate with no screaming or finger pointing. Thank you for this.
No ... this isn't a debate, this is a couple of ball ticklers agreeing to tickle each others balls.

Hell yeah
And yet still doesn't accomplish shit
@@Sheridantank so
This is the standard outside of cable news.
@Krimsen King CNN is pretty bad too.
This gun debate could be boiled down to “facts don’t care about your feelings”.
Exactly. Piers kept going on and on about the 8 year old girl that accidently shot someone (feelings argument). Nope. Never. I'm not voting for or submitting to gun regulations because some girl somewhere else had an accident. Nope!
And he just kept bringing up how we need to ban ARs even though everyone in America collectively agrees no one should CONCEAL carry a damn AR
Also yeah his argument just devolved into “well we need to do something”
@@Sorenish I do believe though younger people should definitely not be able to even use a gun like an Uzi, like who’s idea was that???? Why the hell does an 8 year old need to have an automatic gun? Most of the blame there was on the guardians that let the 8 year old use it, but parents/guardians/people in general, can have stupid ideas. That’s why we have laws in place. If people didn’t do dumb things there wouldn’t be so many laws.
Yet neither side even mentioned the fact its not the tools of violence but the people. Crazy people kill using anything around them. We need to fix the mental health issue first.
@@Sorenish People constantly dying due to gun accidents due to lack of responsibility isn't purely a "feelings argument" though.
If you keep guns away from little children, fewer accidents will happen, this is just a fact. Reducing gun accidents is actually an empirically positive thing, not just "feelings".
So you're wrong about this.
2 men I have huge respect for - I’m so happy they sat down and talked through their differences!!! Brilliant
Piers does not see a need for >10 round mags because he thinks good guys can automatically one-shot a bad guy like in the movies. But regardless of his ability to see a need, a free country does not hand out rights based on needs.
“Why would you need more than 10 rounds ?” 11 attackers
Missing shots
Threats not stopping until shot multiple times
Jamming
Failure to fire.
I will never understand the anti gun movement
It also annoying to have to reload so often.
Don’t forget tyranny. I actually think that’s the most important one.
When the people are armed, the tyrants are few...
If you'll never understand the anti gun movement then either the empathy part of your brain is broken, or youve never heard their argument articulated properly. And I say that as a 100% 2A enthusiast. There is no debate...all other things being equal, the more guns are kept out of a society in general, the more it reduces homicides. That's their argument, and its a good and valid one. That doesn't persuade me to violate the right to bear arms, but you'll get further actually understanding the other side than you will twisting yourself into a pretzel to either pretend firearms arent much more efficient, and convenient murder machines than machetes, knives or nail guns, or that 2A opponents are just brainless morons. Just bravely make your lesser of two evils argument and keep it moving.
@@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 this is the best argument for 2A.
