It was more than obvious, however, that in this time of "emotional fragility" and myriad deaths in Gaza everyday, that the majority of the community did not want to hear what Ben Shapiro had to say. He's a known propagandist, just from his lack of address of how Israel funded Hamas, and his reliance on sarcasm and patronising behaviour to get him to seem assertive. His methods are obvious. Jews have done great things but IDF is tarnishing that reputation with unjustified killings and takeover of Palestine. Asking her constantly to specify ad nauseum in order to the deflect the questions is a disgraceful debate tactic, effective as it may be. Palestine doesnt deserve this and israel doesnt deserve this. Most students at these elite universities come from rich families who buy their children’s degrees. It’s ridiculous how many post grads are incapable of doing the job their degrees qualify them for.
Yep, they're all dross. And these people end up running the UK government, which tells you why the UK is a failed state that cannot organise itself, has a weak economy and zero military.
The elite pretending to be of the people, being working class, I preferred it when they knew what they were, the victimisation that these kids feel, it’s beyond parody, to be that entitled, to feel that entitled, to cast judgement on others, when they have had all the advanges that their parents have given them, makes you feel kinda sick 🤢 they don’t even see it 😂
A very small minority of students (maybe like 1%) are part of the Oxford Union. The Union does not have any official ties to the actual university. In my time there I met very few students who were part of the Union because it is basically an expensive and pretentious club. The very serious and mature students I met at Oxford were never part of the Union, so in my opinion this private debate club is in no way an actual representation of the university body.
And it's getting worse, Harvard is getting along. Mouths concocting stupid bullshit by kids that are better at ruining stupid girl's vaginas and drinking beer. 😂😂
I can't believe an Oxford student actually told his interlocutor to shut up. Coming from, supposedly, one of the best universities in the world. Absolutely shameful and disgusting behaviour.
Look at the state of the current student bodies and recent (past 10-15 years) alumni as opposed to what it used to be pre 2010 and there’s your answer. Also Oxbridge has been desperately and frantically enrolling ‘diverse’ students for the past decade and a half so much so to the point where being Muslim or black - regardless of your grades and moral values - gets you an instant tick. Unfortunately both Oxford and Cambridge are being turned into ghettos for the ‘disadvantaged minorities’ who have absolutely no desire to respect or learn about the culture and heritage of Oxbridge and instead would rather smear the very foundations of both institutes with their unBritish and uncivilised rhetoric and behaviours.
@@guzylad5Ben isn’t an Oxford student though. If you’re a student enrolled at one of - if not the most - prestigious universities in the world it’s probably best you have a clean tongue and an even cleaner nobility about you

The Czech student was my favorite also, very respectful,he will go far. The girls were arrogant, entitled and rude. They lost whatever point they were trying to make because their attitudes. They’ll peak in college, the real world won’t cater to their over amplified sense of entitlement.
As a kid who dreamed of a good education, I can't believe I once wanted to study here. They didn't come prepared to have a discussion but to just throw sentences in the air without checking any facts or history. They speak disrespectfully to the person in front of them. What a low-quality education institute. Just shameful.
None of what you said reflects anything about the university. It is an elite institution with many of the greatest minds in their fields teaching their students, often in one-to-one tutorials with nowhere to hide. That you misconstrue this points to the likelihood of you not getting in.
It's not the university's fault entirely. Keep in mind many of these students are Muslims representing their ideology rather than standing up to moral principles. At the end of the day, this is a Holy war for Muslims.. for Israel is just defending their RIGHT to survive. May Israel free the Palestinian people from Hamas terror!
I was shocked at the chair allowing the guest to be rudely attacked by students, without stopping the verbal tirades that had no question, and without calling points of order. Extremely disgraceful.
They've exchanged good for evil. Being rude, loud, aggressive is seen as respectable and honourable in the worldview-religion of those students. Being gentlemanly, respectful in contrast is seen as weak and cowardly.
In Poland if a student said 'shut up' during a university debate, he would be silenced immediately and expelled the day after. We have to sign a pledge saying; 'I solemnly vow (...) to treat with respect the authorities of the university and all members of it's community, respect academic laws and customs and look after the dignity and honour of a university student'. On this ground anyone can be removed from the course for being rude, disrespectful or acting dishonourably. I think it may be the same in Czech Republic.
It's amazing how Ben finds dumb people to debate so he can sound smart. I'd like to see him debate a historian or a credible journalist with an opposing view. I used to respect this guy. He's such a little snake.

Being a student, I am saying this. You come to a debate with facts, not religious thinking, and just because you're an Oxfordian doesn't mean you're a good debater.
I like how you implied that the _students_ are the religious zealots. One thing I appreciate about Ben is that he rarely appeals to his religion and makes secular arguments for his positions.
Okay do u want facts. ok then fact number 1 where was Israel before 1948 ? Did it have a land? Did Israel have the right to lie in front of all the people who know better the history of the conflict with all this steadiness?

I thought these students are meant to be our brightest. Their ability to debate is deplorable. I'm disgusted at their rudeness and inability to listen to an alternative view. God help us if these students are our future, we will never be able to discuss issues, problem solve, and find a way forward.
Obviously they are the result of affirmative action. They have picked the least intelligent to attend the school. Best to go to a community college. Oxford has lost prestige
you talk as if listening to alternative views were the same as listening to alternative music. Ideas have consequences, some of them spread like fire, and that is why a debate in a public setting is never the best to enlighten anyone on anything. It becomes too risky to be polite and to listen at some point. Debates on tv or youtube or large media become a struggle to shut down the ideas one assumes will do more harm to the 'cause' they represent. The only place for serious thinking, reflecting, and analysing anything is the well planned classroom environment, where people have had time to read, to reflect and to ask questions and reprocess things again and again, with time and with no pressure from the risk of what they said being used to sway masses of people into hatred and violence. These public debates are increasingly just a show and eventually, even dangerous.

I am not a scholar by any means, but if a person who is arguably spending their whole life educating themselves say: "you can google it!" to make a point, I lose a lot of respect for the institution they are educated at.
I know what you mean, and are saying, but I can say this, that Google, one company can be the source of all knowledge is scary in itself, because they pick and choose which info gets suggested by money. There is no equal views, even online anymore, if someone doesn't like the news, ppl call it fake. Information is fake because it came from a source that is bias because they paid to have you view it first, isn't that fake as well?

New York Times had a good podcast on this, its called "Rabbit Holy". Definitely recommended :-)
I'm genuinely ashamed to be a student here after watching this. Our country (and world more broadly) seems so divided. None of us (including myself) are informed enough to spot misinformation from reality. Being unable to fact check everything (as we have busy lives) is leading to us simply accepting false information and sticking to what we think we know. We're not singing from the same hymn sheet. Also, saying "shut up" and using such a tone for any *guest* at the Oxford Union is appalling. The man deserves more respect than that, whether you agree with him or not.
There's an old saying that some people are educated beyond their intelligence. It takes a certain amount of innate intelligence to make education worthwhile.
It’s not educated vs intelligent. Intelligence is gathered by gathering education so you can become smarter about the world. It doesn’t make you intelligent. Better and further education can lead to becoming smarter. Plenty of people have mounds of education and are not necessarily intelligent.
I've recently worked alongside Oxford graduates and never understood why they were so clueless and yet still so arrogant. Until now. What a disastrous 'debate'.
The fact that we are seeing literally one of the strongest academic institutions in the world showcasing students who believe emotion and fact are the same, is one of the most disheartening things I've watched in a long time.
In politics emotions have mattered more than facts forever. In fact they exactly teach that it in university's debate groups how to evoke emotions in listeners to help support your point and all these populist politicians with posh accents begin to pick up their skill of talking bullshit and get away while in universities like Oxford and Cambridge. Twitter (or X) and TikTok is full or. Orkns, hence why left the former and never joined the first.
All them students are there because of their rich parents. Plenty of money no brains 🧠
The quality of students at educational institutions has gone sharply downhill over the last few decades.
Additionally, the accessibility of information online has gone way up.
So it's a combination of students getting more ignorant and (some) people online getting less ignorant.
@angryedgelord4111 why because they don't agree with your outdated bs?
Because this is where the majority get their information , and if those arguments fit their ideology, which it almost always does because that’s how the algorithms work, they believe it without an open mind

Engaging in debate fairly relies more on overall ability to play fair than it relies on intelligence. It’s about refraining from the dirty hits and going for the fair ones, and letting your opponent do the same knowing it might hurt.

If you look back at high schoolers back in the 60's. 70's , they debated 10x better than these "university students".
I remember Polish students debating with politicians in 90's and early 2000's and was thinking to myself "damn, they suck". But at least they had proper respect and courtesy even for people they disagreed with and weren't making emotional arguments. At least it was a proper debate. But seems like now even Oxford students cannot be held to such standards…
@@med2904that is because they were able to think independently.
But a 40 year old Ben taking on students who are way younger than him and inexperienced in public debates is a joke. These are 20 year old students, what experience and knowledge do they have? What were you doing when you were 20? Do you even have the courage to debate a popular figure like Ben publicly? Although these students were rude in some ways, it doesn't change the fact that the match up is unfair. I noticed Ben always bullies younger people in many of his videos, its almost as if its intended.
So why doesn't Ben debate someone like Muhammad Hijab (33 year old Oxford student) or others with higher experience and knowledge? For example Muhammad Hijab challenged Ben multiple times and asked for debates, however Ben always refused. In my eyes, Ben is avoiding the real threats to his arguments because he will be exposed. Ben is good at playing the game of debate, but trust me if he debates a real knowledgeable and experienced person, he will lose.
Ben's whole argument in the video is about Arabs not accepting a two state solution, well, thats assuming the Arab leaders arent British agents, which many are. There's enough evidence in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Iran in the 19th century about the British government funding minority weak groups with weapons and assets to overthrow the country and kill anyone who stands in their way. My Syrian grandpa was among the people who got assassination attempts from the Arab British agent (AKA Hafez al-Asad) just for running a presidency campaign, so I know first hand about this. Therefore, Ben's whole argument about the Arab leaders breaks apart as many were agents of Israel. These Arab British agents are not working for the benefit of humanity, but rather for the benefit of Zionist Israel. They sold their soul to money and power.
"shut up" is just such a classy, refined, and confident thing to tell someone in a debate.

Quite astounded at the low level of argumentation by the students. Is this really what Oxford is producing these days?
They seek out the dumb ones...period. This is all part of the plan to destroy the west. Pretty obvious at this point.

Oxford was once a very impressive institution. It's high standards guaranteed intelligent minds within it's walls. Oh how Oxford has fallen.

The elite pretending to be of the people, being working class, I preferred it when they knew what they were, the victimisation that these kids feel, it’s beyond parody, to be that entitled, to feel that entitled, to cast judgement on others, when they have had all the advanges that their parents have given them, makes you feel kinda sick 🤢 they don’t even see it 😂
Leftist...
The woke virus has infiltrated all levels of the academic institutions.

He's also the only one who asked a smart question.

Education has never walked hand in hand with intelligence. So to answer your question, you thought wrong.
you talk as if listening to alternative views were the same as listening to alternative music.
